So nice to have today “off” due to schools being closed. Today is Rosh Hashanah so schools in my area are closed. I do not have much planned for today, other than some stuff around the house. And study group this evening.
Ruth, well that is important that you were able to download the ability to monitor your Indiana property. Also a nice thing to be able to do if bad weather sets in, and you can see how things are going there. It also takes the responsibility off your DS- now he does not have to go there to check things out periodically. Simply amazing how getting these systems to work can take so much effort. You will get back to the knot bags and crocheting in due time. Think CJ and I will both attest to getting set up for a project. I well remember the time I wanted to sew, had a project I wanted to make and could not find my sewing machine power cord. (This was before I really had a designated sewing area). Oh I was upset. Yes I did find it, but it bothered me. Think if you pick a project and get all set up, then its stress free when you want to sew. You are totally right, no one noticed the mistakes on any of Barbara Blanton’s quilts (and she is a national speaker, will be at a few AQS functions in the next few months). She had to point out her mistakes- and explained how she worked around them. Her quilts are so pretty too. Actually she inspired me to appliqué or at least not be afraid of it. Perhaps someday I will take on a small project. Anyway, take inspiration from her- whether it be quilting or crochet- most people will not notice minor mistakes, unless you are submitting your project for judging, which none of us are.
Been watching the news a lot regarding the hurricane. Looks like my DBIL/DSIL will be fine- they most likely will not be called to evacuate because they are a higher elevation and inland a bit. They might still see a lot of rain and wind, but have a generator. My cousin might be in a different situation. Last time they had a tropical system like this I know he drove across the state to stay with someone else on the east coast. And I hope that this system heads out to the ocean so that CJ and I are not impacted by heavy rain and wind.
Think I will get dressed, get another cup of tea and get my material ready for study this evening.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today and having nice weather. It's been around 70 here and cloudy. Ginny - I'm glad you enjoyed the presentation by the applique quilter. I checked out her website and she looks like an expert on that type of quilting. We have a quilter in Maryland who is also an applique expert - Mimi -Dietrich. I hope that your DBIL and DSIL will be fine and not have any problems from the storm. I hope it doesn't head our way after it leaves Florida too. Ruth - I'm glad you were able to get things set up so you could see the cameras. Phyl - Sorry to hear about your thread problems at the class, I hope you did learn some things. I've had thread that just doesn't work well in some of my machines too. Sue - Hope you are getting to do some crafting. I finished one of the bonus blocks for Moda Blockheads that I hadn't done yet. I needed to use my Tri-Recs ruler for it. I didn't have enough of the white fabric left to make this one, so I found some in my stash that I thought was exactly the same. But after I'd made the block and laid it next to the older blocks, the white was brighter and I can't use this block in my quilt top. Since I only need one more block, I'm hoping that the block that comes out this Wednesday will not need a lot of white since I have some scraps of the original fabric that I can use. I also made the borders for this quilt, so I'll be ready to put it together after I make the last block. I played around with some fabric yesterday and today and made a small table topper using hourglass blocks. I wanted to try a method that made two at a time and it did work pretty well. Tomorrow is the next block for the Christmas time quilt along, so I'll post the link for it for you. Take care

Hello Everyone Phyl - I hope that you don't get covid. I'm sorry you'll miss your guild meeting and using the gift certificate, hopefully you can get to the shop some other time. I'm glad you were able to get your appointment requested. Thanks for the needle/thread information. The next block came out today for the Christmastime quilt along. They are Christmas cards. At first the design didn't make sense to me, but then I saw the open card. Here's a link to the pattern: www.fatquartershop.com/christmastime-mystery-quilt-along-week-three-christmas-cards-quilt-free-pdf-patternI think there is only one more block next week. I like the quick quilt alongs, but it's been tough picking fabric for this quilt along. It always amazes me how many different shades and tones fabric have - makes it difficult to place them together. I did get my block made and it's alright. Hopefully when they are all put together it will look good. It's nice weather here today, hope it is for you all too. Take care and have a good day!

Good evening, What a wacky day. Glad this one is almost over.
CJ- thanks for posting the link for the Christmas cards. Yes its a real challenge finding fabrics that work together between all the color values and tones… and what looks good in small scale can be a mistake. Guess that is why they sell fabric collections. And listening to how you have endured this long quilt along, I think a short quilt along would be perfect for you. Barbara Blanton did share with how she got into a pickle once where she thought she was using the same background fabric for a quilt only to find that some additional fabric she had was a slightly different color, so she had to do a lot or ripping out. She told the story with a smile and a laugh…and again what I loved about her is that she does not take this too seriously but she still makes gorgeous quilts.
Yes, Phyl , hope that you do not get covid, and its better safe than sorry. From my research and experience with friends and family, most folks get sick pretty quickly after exposure, its rare that a person goes the full 5 days. Monitor how you feel, and know that those at home tests are not tremendously accurate. Praying that you and Don do not get sick. Thanks for the thread/needle facts….some of that I knew, but its always nice to have that information handy. Sorry you will miss the guild meeting.
Ruth, how is your day going? How are the knot bags turning out? Hope you are almost done with them, as I know you are becoming frustrated with them and are anxious to move onto another project.
Babysat today….little guy is quite a character but was good for me. I need a good night sleep. Been busy contacting friends and family in Florida. My DBIL and DSIL are the best prepared- storm shutters, high ground and a whole house generator. They will ride the storm out but are not in an evacuation zone. My cousins are evacuating.
Praying that Florida gets through this ok and that it does not turn back into the east coast and impact CJ or me. They are showing showers for me for early next week….but just showers.

Just checking in to see if Ruth visited us last night. Frequently she stops in after I am in bed. Hope that she is doing ok. I know how sometimes a day just gets away from us. I have grand babies again today- am sure looking forward to a weekend. Jane and I have plans on heading up the the quilt shop next week. She has a baby quilt to make and has to pick out the fabric for that.
Will check in later to see who stopped in Ginny

Good morning all. It's still morning here and in a lot of places Yesterday I went for a CT scan and had a very long wait (for here) so I'm glad I took my project with me. Actually it was a very old ball of yarn. I've had this yarn for a very long time. It had no label and I don't remember where I even got it. It seems to be about a #5 weight. I'm making a hat with it and speaking of hats, I was near where the senior center is so could have taken my bag of hats to drop off there for the Caps for Kids group but didn't think of it until too late. Ginny, I do hope and pray that you will get some nights of good, refreshing sleep. As busy as you are you need to be rested.I hope that Jane find so really great fabric to use for her baby quilt and who knows, you may find some fabric that you really need to buy CJ, a short quilt along sounds like just what you need after being involved in some very long term ones. Yes it's surprising sometimes just how different some fabrics (and yarn) are than we think.Once you get it sitting with the fabric you've already used you see how it does not go with the fabric you thought it would match. I worked on my last knot bag last night but it involved taking out several rows because I didn't like how I did it. I really like this stitch pattern and may make other things with it later using different colors. I like the pattern I used on the 5th bag and will probably use that pattern again also. That one worked great and I didn't have to do any ripping. It worked even better after I tried doing one stitch in a different way going under two strands instead of just one in working into a chain like I usually do. Phyl, I do hope you won't get covid and I doubt you will. Most cases now are very mild but with your other medical conditions I'm sure you know that you possibly could have some complications I'm praying for Phyl that she does not come down with the virus and for Ginny's family and friends in Florida. I have family there also but don't hear from them. I think my brothers and sisters have them on their FB friend list so I'll ask about them See you all later

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today and having nice weather It's been nice and clear here and in the 60s. Looks like we'll get rain this weekend from the hurricane, which looks like it's doing terrible damage I went out this morning to do some shopping, so I haven't done any quilting today. The last of the Moda Blockheads 4 came out today, so I hope to work on that and the quilt top soon. And the next block for the Hometown Charms came out today - it's a sailboat. www.ilovetomakequilts.com/2022/09/hometown-charms-week-4-with-options.htmlShe does give another option for blocks if you don't want to make the sailboat, but I think I'll make it. I'd like to make a quilt with sailboats someday. Hope you all get to do some crafting. Take care

I have been in contact with most of my friends and family in Florida, and from what I am seeing, they are ok, its not as bad for them because the storm made landfall further south. Thanks for the prayers, and caring. I have been in contact a lot today with them.
Ruth, hope that the CT scan results are good and available soon. Glad. You found a way to work with a pattern using two strands. It should go easier for you, more quickly and even better yet, you like it. Yay- no ripping!!!!
Long day, but grandkids were funny. I am tired however.
Have a good night all G

I Love sailboat block! I'm glad you were able to get to the store,CJ,in case bad weather hits your area
I started my bag over again with different yarn because I want to practice it. It's such a nice pattern but time consuming and one where I should have done a swatch to practice instead of starting the whole bag size but I never do that. The one I mentioned that I did the stitch in two strands of the chain is that last bag I did and one that I would make again maybe for the other set of grandchildren at some point.
Ginny, again,I hope you get a good night's sleep.I'm glad your family and friends are in a location where they won't get too much of the storm.I think that where my cousins are in Florida isn't in the hurricane's path.

Yes, CJ’s sailboat block sure is adorable. Simply amazing what squares and triangles can be made into.
Ruth, glad you started the bag over again, and tried different yarn. Practicing the other bag sounds like a good idea- and yes a practice swatch does seem like both good practice but also a great way to see if you are happy with the stitch and the yarn.
Slept ok- not great. Hoping for a good nights sleep tonight. And my friends and family in florida seem to be ok. The rest of the state is not doing well, looks like complete devastation in some areas.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well and having some nice weather. It was sunny and in the 60s here today, still hoping we won't get too much rain this weekend. I finished the last Moda Blockheads block and it's kind of sad to finish the quilt along, but also a relief. I do have two leftover blocks that I'm going to use to make a tablerunner, just need to make a few blocks to go with them. Or if I don't do that I'll add them to my orphan blocks. I'd really like to make some quilt tops with all my orphan blocks next year. I also finished putting the quilt top together and I'm happy with it. There are such bright colors in this quilt and I was glad to work with them. It's definitely a "bright" quilt I'll try to post a picture in the next few days. I also got all my scraps from this quilt along cut up and stores and threw out the small pieces, I really like this method of getting rid of and storing scraps. I hope to work on the sailboard block tomorrow. I thought this block tutorial from the Fat Quarter Shop that came out today is interesting. I might try it with a few scraps. www.youtube.com/watch?v=00m-baS5aKU&t=309s Hope you all get to do some crafting too and have a good evening. Take care

CJ, yes that block is very interesting and it will be great to see what you do with the pieces. It looks like there are endless possibilities. I'm sure that finishing a quilt along that has gone on awhile must feel like leaving friends. I hope...well I know...that you will find something really great to do with all your orphan blocks.
Dh went for his first PT visit today. The therapist seems very knowledgeable and took his time explaining things to dh. I was going to wait outside again and crochet but the therapist invited me to go with them so I went. Then we went to Walmart which was next door and found, after completing our shopping, that they had only one out of at least 25 check out aisles open and it was a long line.I don't do self checkout. Everytime I do something goes wrong. After we ended up being next in line they finally opened another station. I'm sure a lot of people complained. Dh went to the service desk to tell them they needed to open another lane but no one was at the service desk either. So, anyway, we just got home about a half hour ago.
Ginny, I do hope you get that really good sleep tonight. Is tomorrow going to be a busy day also?
See you all tomorrow
