Its always an eye opener when another weeks thread is started, that time just marches on. I love fall, but its a little bit overwhelming. Guess its just a mind game, but I view summer as long and tedious (knowing that its hot and for me uncomfortable) and fall as short, cause its my favorite season. Silly, isn’t it?
Ruth, that is wonderful that HL is having free shipping and a sale on the cotton yarn too!! Are you almost done with making knot bags? I am glad to hear that you have cooler temperatures also and I hope that you and Dh are staying comfortable.
CJ, wonder if you will decide to take on that QAL. Knowing that the blockheads quilt is pretty much finished, other than the extra blocks which you plan on making a table runner out of, well you will most likely be looking for another project to make.
DGS was pretty good last night. I got him into bed a little after 8 and was then able to watch some television and start setting up for today. He is a funny little fellow. I know he enjoyed it when Ds came home from work. Ds is a very loving uncle.
Phyl and Sue, hope both of you enjoyed your weekend and got some crafting time in.
Better go get started getting dressed. BBL Ginny

A good but crazy day of babysitting. I should be going to bible study this evening, but decided for the sake of my back and that I woke up extra early this am, that the chance to get some extra sleep and rest my back that I am better off staying home. I feel guilty doing so, but for this evening, think its the best choice.
Did not get any crafting done today, and with a day of little ones, doubt that I will be able to tomorrow. Fall is really here, and other than the shorter days, I am happy about cooler temps and the leaves turning color. Hope everyone had a great day.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today It's been rainy and cold here for the last few days, and think tomorrow is supposed to be the same. Hope your weather is nicer. Ginny - Hope you are enjoying the babysitting, I bet your DGS is fun to be with I like Fall/Autumn a lot too, but as the years have gone on I now start to dread some of the problems that come with it with regards to things around the house and yard. Fortunately the furnace seems to be working alright, or at least the same way it did last year. I had to turn it on yesterday and today since the house was only around 66 degrees. It only took a few hours yesterday to get up to 70 degrees, but today it took about 4 hours. I don't care what those technicians who came to my house last year said, I don't believe this is how this furnace should work, since it never worked like this before //rant over// I decided I'm not going to do the Sewscialites quilt along. I really don't like the patterns for most of the blocks and if I did them I'd rather do the 9 inch blocks which are the largest and that ends up making a very large quilt, something like 90x90. The 6 inch blocks are O.K. but those are still some small fabric pieces and there's no way I'm doing the 3 inch blocks after I finished making something this morning that had little 3 inch blocks! I did finish one of the small projects I was working on. It has small Ohio Stars and measured 16x16 inches finished (top). I just love the look of mini/small quilts, but not working with those tiny pieces. I still have two more projects laying out to work on and hope to finish them up soon. Hope you are all getting to do some crafting too.

Ginny, I think it's a good idea to miss the Bible study this evening and get some rest. The Lord knows your heart and understands. I hope you can get some rest and that the children are not too difficult tomorrow.
I'm way below my WW goal weight but I think I need to change my eating habits. During the pandemic and now with horrible inflation we having been eating in a healthy way. I need to cut down on carbs and I also need to get in more exercise. I'm also planning on doing dh's exercises.
That being said, I've spent the day so far crocheting. I completed three hats yesterday two of which I started in the past week and the other years ago. I started another today and will finish it today sometime. Being that it's October which is breast cancer awareness month there are a lot of hat challenges for crochet hats going on. They're for all types of cancer not just breast cancer. I thought that since 4 of my closest neighbors have died of cancer in the last few years and one had cancer which was removed and yet another has cancer for which he is receiving treatment, that I need to make some hats. My goals for October are to make those hats and finish the things to send to oot grandchildren then work on some of my ongoing projects.I will do edging on one of my blankets that I made a few years back. I have several of those and am much better at edging and borders than I was back when I made those blankets. Of course I could work on the Christmas crochet along that I started but probably won't get to that one.

CJ- I am glad that you made the decision regarding the sewcialities quilt. I had checked out the patterns online, and agree that some blocks were just not something I would want to make. Of course its all personal taste. We should be doing our crafting either because its doing some good (for example, Ruth’s hats) or because we love what we are doing. Sorry about your heater. Not sure what the answer is, but I pray that this is a single event and that the heater works well for the rest of the season.
Ruth, a great idea regarding making hats for breast cancer awareness month. So many are impacted by that horrible disease. And please take care of yourself. I know you are a nurse, and know so much about diet and what a body needs to stay healthy. Make sure you are eating well- which it sounds like you are doing. And exercise is a great idea.
Yes I stayed home last night….slept pretty well.
Rainy here all day. Gonna be interesting with little ones who cannot go out cause of the weather. G

CJ, somehow I missed your post yesterday. I agree with both of you that it you're trying to make something you don't care for It's best not to do it because then it becomes a tedious chore which we don't need.I'm sorry your furnace is acting up. That is SO frustrating!! When the repair people come and tell you it's working fine it makes it even more frustration and if you're like me, it makes us feel helpless.
I really like working on hats. They can be frustrating too but, for the most part, they are easy and quick. I started over on one I started a couple weeks ago. I just couldn't get it to go like it should so I'm trying again and it seems to be coming out fine. A person in the crochet group gave me a couple hints which I know to do but rarely do it and they are using stitch markers and count the stitches. I often think I don't need to do either. I still ended up with two extra stitches but it doesn't affect the appearance of the hat so I don't mind that. Of course I would like it perfect.
Ginny, I hope the little cuties do ok with staying in. Crochet them some snowballs and let then throw them at each other.
I'll bbl. Today is dh's PT appt again

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today. It's still been cool here (50s) and some showers. Ginny - I hope the day went well with your DGC Ruth - Hope you re DH's PT appointment went well. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are doing alright. I went out this morning to do some shopping and errands. The new block for the Christmastime quilt along came out today. It's Christmas presents. I'm really not happy with the way this quilt is coming along with the fabrics I'm using, so I don't think I'll make this block and just be finished with this quilt along. I really liked the first block (the mug) and would rather make a few more mug blocks in Christmas fabrics and make a small quilt, so I might do that. Here's a link to Pat Sloan's blocks: blog.patsloan.com/2022/10/christmas-time-block-4-ufo-plans-more.htmlTomorrow is the next block of Hometown Charms, so I hope to work on that tomorrow. Hope you are all getting to do some crafting. Take care

CJ- glad you are abandoning the Christmastime quilt- again my theory is if you do not love what you are making why make it? Ruth, hope DH’s appointment went well. Both Little ones were good, I missed DGD who is now in preschool. So glad that I checked my bank account. I came home to see that my checking account was ok- I paid 2 large bills last week, one was by check the other repeating online payment. The online payment had charged me twice (yikes!) and it was a large charge ( I charge my automobile insurance). So glad I found the error and was able to have the bank transfer money to cover the double charge. Then I called the credit card company who is aware of the problem but does not know when the error will be corrected. Really? ? Well they will be losing my business, I was completely unsatisfied with their lack luster response and will eliminate that card as soon as I can. So frustrating.

Good morning!
A lovely rainy day here, got the plumbing company due here this morning to do a preseason tune up on my heater. Think that Jane and I might be headed to the quilt shop later on today.
I was in a rage last night over this credit card issue, texted my friend and found out that the same thing (same credit card company) did that to my friends elderly mother. Well Barclays will be losing my account as soon as I can get it all straightened out and I will start switching all my other automatic payments over to another card. Just hoping for a peaceful day….
See ya later.

Ginny, I'm sorry to hear that your credit card company gave such inexcusable customer service. There's no reason that couldn't have straightened that problem out immediately. I had a Barclay credit card a couple years ago but never used it after the first transaction. My current problem credit card is a Capitol One card. I opted out of paper statements then was unable to download their site online. I called for the code but that didn't work. I need to call and see if there's someone there that's a little more helpful and request mailed statements. I don't use it but I have a large credit on it from rewards purchases.
CJ I'm glad to that you've decided not to do that quilt along that you don't care for.
It's very cool here right now. It will heat up a little to mid sixties. Looking forward I see an upcoming day where the high will be in 40's. I've been really liking the current weather and I agree with you all that fall weather is great but unfortunately fall is just a prelude to all the problems involved with winter.
I got a lot of crocheting done while dh was doing his PT. I'm working on hats, as I mentioned, they are portable and there's a new pattern everyday in the cancer challenge. I finally got what that one youtuber was doing starting her hats. It makes a great design on the top of the hat instead of the usual plain stitches that are usually used in the increase section. I usually do bottom up hats because of the plainness of those. We went shopping after the PT and stocked up on flour and sugar. They were having a caselot sale and While at Walmart last week we noticed that the sugar section was completely empty except for a couple of the one pound boxes.
I'm going to be doing some baking today and the time not baking will be spent, as you can guess, crocheting.

Oh Ruth, what yummy stuff are you baking?? That is crazy that every day there is a new pattern in the cancer challenge, but I suppose with a prolific crocheter like yourself, a hat a day is not much of a challenge. Having a hat with a design on the top is a great idea, and I am glad you found a pattern that works for you!! Congrats on the case lot sale for sugar and flour. You are constantly making wonderful foods for yourself and Dh and I know the ingredients will be put to good use. Plus with winter coming, having those items on hand will be great and keep you well stocked. Glad you are enjoying fall weather!! IMO its a delightful season.
So, I did get to the quilt shop - and did buy some fabric. Like I needed it ha ha ha. I did help Jane pick out the fabric for her DGD to be born in a few months. It will be a very plain quilt but that is what her DDIL wanted.
Barclays reversed the second charge, so that awful saga is over with. I am still going to proceed with discontinuing using their card, ,because of their poor customer service. If I had not called, I wonder how long that double charge would have stayed? I took out that card many (probably close to 20) years ago when it was a Joann fabrics card, and your purchase points converted to cash to spend at Joanns. That was discontinued awhile ago and Barclays took the card over with, so I stuck with it. But Like I said,I will no longer be using that card and will within a few months close it out.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today and having good weather. It was a bit milder here today with some rain this morning but I think the remnants of the hurricane are finally gone. It seems like it just kept circling around and around here. At least there wasn't much heavy rain, but I did see my sump pump has been pushing out water. Ginny - I'm sorry to hear about the issues with that credit card and I hope you can get them resolved and get rid of the card. I'm obsessed with not having any recurring charges on my credit cards. I know I miss out on some things, but I feel better that I'm the one initiating charges. Hope you were able to go to the quilt shop and that your furnace is in good condition. And I'm glad you enjoyed the grandchildren. Ruth - Hope you are enjoying making the hats this month and checking out the different pattern each day. Hope you enjoy your baking too, what did you make? It's sad that we can't just enjoy the weather and seasons with dealing with all the problems that come with them, isn't it? Phyl and Sue - Hope you are doing well. I finished the next block for Pat Sloan's Hometown Charms quilt along and also did the sashing that goes inside, above and below this center section of the quilt. So I'm ready to work on the top and bottom sections as the blocks come out. I'm getting satisfied with the way my fabrics are working out with this quilt along, and have ideas for which ones to use in the coming blocks so that helps. www.ilovetomakequilts.com/2022-hometown-charms-qal-1.html - You can scroll down to the see the layout and a picture of Block #5, which was today's block. It was strange not having a Moda Blockheads block today after 6 months of having one each week, but I'm happy with the quilt tops I have from this quilt along. I put away the other 3 blocks I have from it and added them to my orphan blocks. I really need to do some orphan block quilts next year. I would like to do a quilt with some of my Halloween fabric next and I saw this pattern today that I think might work well and it looks really easy: www.hancocks-paducah.com/Windham-Fabrics-Harpersfiled-Davenport-Garden-Quilt-Pattern?quantity=1&custcol_tt_itemoption_decimals=1It's a free download too, so that was nice. I'm going to see if I have 6 fabrics that go together well and try it out. I'd love to do it in florals too. Take care

CJ, yes it is too bad we have to confront issue caused by weather especially winter. ...furnace issues, pipes freezing, plus trying to keep our driveways clear in case we need to get out and car issues such as dead batteries due to cold. I'm glad you like the HOmetown quilt top. It's a pleasure to work on things we like. I especially like the block 5 and also 4 I made spaghetti sauce and fried cabbage. The cabbage will be eaten with home not with the spaghetti . I also made an apple crisp and am thinking of making biscuits but I may wait until tomorrow although that is a PT day so maybe not until Friday. Ginny, how was the trip to the quilt store? Did you find some great things to buy?

Ruth - what do you do with fried cabbage? That’s a new recipe for me!
CJ - glad you found a pretty free quilt design for Halloween. Hoping you have some fabrics in your stash to make that quilt top!
Will post pics tomorrow of my fabrics and the pattern I hope to make.
And the issues with the credit card company was not a recurring charge- but a charge I intentionally made for an annual bill. Got little patience for a company with poor customer service
