Ginny, I'm glad that you got better sleep last night. I hope that continues. We don't get trick or treaters here so it will be a quiet evening.
CJ, I really like those quilts you have planned. Is the one you mentioned as picture #4 the blues and greens one. That's my favorite also
I have a couple things to do today getting things together for when I'm out tomorrow. One of course is a small project to crochet on while I'm waiting to see the eye doctor. (just for new glasses)
See you all later. I need to write out my list for today so that I don't forget anything.

Hello - Hope everyone is doing well today and having nice weather. It's cloudy here and we've had some rain and supposed to get more tonight. Ginny - I'm glad you got some sleep last night, hope it's better tonight. I'd be scared to death to open my door to anyone at night, but fortunately there aren't any more trick or treaters around here anymore. Hope you don't get too many. Ruth - Hope your appointment goes well tomorrow and that you get to work on your crochet project while you are waiting. Yes, it's the blue and green quilt that I like, I really want to try that one. I finished the machine quilting and binding on my Autumn table runner today. I had hoped to use my regular machine to do the quilting, but it did the same thing as the last time I tried to use it - I set the stitch length to 4.0 and that works fine on my small sample piece, but as soon as I put the quilt in the machine, the stitch length gets really small. Something must be triggering that - it was just frustrating. So I went ahead and pulled out my heavy duty machine and set it up and used it. I quilted the diamond pattern I wanted to try and it is nice, but after I finished quilting I realized that my table runner would have looked better with just regular diagonal lines Even though I don't mind machine quilting, I just don't enjoy it. Surprisingly I really do enjoy putting on binding I decided some things last night. I'm kind of in a quilt along "down" mood right now and I'm going to stop participating in the Sewcialites quilt along. The block patterns really aren't that pretty to me and the pieces are so small, I'm just not enjoying it. (These are the blue and white blocks I've made). So I put all that fabric away and I felt relieved. I also decided not to use the fabrics I'd pulled for the Stars Sampler quilt along next month. I'm not going to participate in that either. I'd rather use those fabrics for something else. So I'm just left with the Hometown Charms quilt along which finishes at the end of November and the Melodic Melody Mystery quilt along which finishes in April (it's a monthly one) and this feels a lot better to me. I'd rather just make some quilts from patterns I like, and see how that goes. I think I might just need a break from quilt alongs, even though I really do enjoy posting the block pictures on Facebook and seeing everyone else's blocks and quilts. Take care

The nice thing, CJ, is that you can still go and look at the blocks made by others. I sometimes get confused on what blocks are the ones you are planning to continue with so is that blue and green one one of the blocks you'll continue to make. I love it. I'm glad you don't have trick or treaters. Even here I don't like to answer the door after dark. I don't even like it in the daytime actually.

Oh I didn't see the picture before. Again another that I love. You certainly have talent when it comes to quilting.
I'm sorry to hear that your sewing machine messed up on you. I know that if I did quilt it would be the binding that I would dislike doing. I've never tried machine quilting though so that might be worse to me too.
Going to go back to getting things done. DD is busy sharing he drama with us. It's exhausting.

Oh, Ruth, I am sorry that DD is sharing some drama with you and Dh. That can sure make for an uneasy and frustrating evening. I hope she is ok and is able to resolve whatever issues herself. Yes, I agree that its great to be able to go to see what others have done and compare their fabric/color/pattern selections. THat is one of the reasons I enjoyed the quilt show the other day, I was able to look at what others put together and figure out what I really like. Did you go today for new glasses?
CJ- I am really happy for you!!! Glad to hear that you identifying more what you want to make, If the blocks are not pretty to you and you are not loving the quilts, then why participate? Yes, use the fabrics and your time for something else that really makes yourself happy. I totally understand your dislike of quilting a top, I do get it, there is something so obvious about quilting stitches on the top of a quilt, which is one reason why I like random stipple. Straight lines are not expected. I did notice and look carefully at the many hand quilted quilts we saw, of course some put great effort into intricate feather patterns or echo stitching. And some just did an outstanding job of outline stitching shapes. Guess where I am going with this is that no one will scrutinize your quilting efforts, even you once you put that quilt away and do not look at it for a few weeks. As an example, my BOM- there were some blocks that I know have “issues”- but now that it is done and all put together, I am hard pressed to find those issues. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Sorry you were frustrated with how the autumn table runner top stitched. I think its cute and that it turned out well. It actually reminds me in a way of the one scrappy quilt I saw, that I found inspiring. That quilt had a star pattern of sorts, made of many small HST’s but each square had 4 pumpkin HST’s flanking the star. It was stunning and the use of the pumpkin in each star really unified the otherwise random fabric use. It was stunnng.
Got home a little late from DD’s house…I got one group of trick or treaters after 6 pm. But I was already in my pj’s and ring doorbell (which was given to me as a gift) allowed me to see what was going on, see that it was not young kids but older trick or treaters and decide not to answer the door. Ha ha ha. Going to see if I can finish my book this evening, and then crochet a bit. G

No trick or treaters tonight! I went downstairs with the woofers and left all the other lights out.
I have been working on another scarf. This one is a rose through lilac ombré. I can't see how it transition to teal a bit farther on. It has a silvery thread running through it, and that adds a nice sparkle. I'm about half way finished.
Tomorrow is our last "nice" day. Snow and low temperatures are in the forecast for six out of the next ten days.
And tomorrow I'm have a vein ablation on my right leg. No restrictions on food, and I'll be able to drive home. In four weeks my left leg will have its turn! The left leg is a redo. I think it's been eight years but I'm not sure. At the time, I thought the procedure was less annoying than most dental procedures, except for the compression stockings whic were an extreme pain.

Sue, prayers that your procedure does go smoothly tomorrow and I am glad to hear that you will be able to transport yourself. Hope that this time the assessment is the same, less annoying than most dental procedures. Compression stockings are a pain. I remember my mom had to wear them and while she did not enjoy wearing them they did help her. Hopefully a light compression works for you, which is a bit easier to put on. The yarn you are working with sounds really pretty, and the silver sparkle must be such a lovely accent. Good to see you here….and I hope you do not get too much snow. Its awfully early in the season for that.
Ring doorbell saved me again…got another trick or treater after 8- its dark and also there is a curfew here after 8. Of course I did not answer the door. Got a bit of crochet done last night. And Dd#1 is home sick, so I am not babysitting today. I am planning on stopping in to see her later to see how she is doing.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today and having nice weather We had fog this morning, but it's sunny and 70 now. Ruth - Hope your eye appointment went well today. Hope things work out for your DD. I tend to be a drama queen, so it's good that I live alone with very little family contact – spares them from me The project I'm still working on is Hometown Charms, the one with reds, greens, and golds. The one I stopped is the two blocks I made in just blue and white fabrics. I am going to make that blue and green quilt from the book that I showed you all (see more below). Ginny - I'm glad you didn't have to open the door to any trick or treaters last night. Thanks for your thoughts on machine quilting. I agree that it really doesn't matter that much that it's perfect unless you are making a show quilt. I just wish I had a good/reliable longarm quilter nearby that I could take all my larger tops to so I could get them done. Sorr to hear your DD is sick, and hope she gets better soon. Sue - It's good to hear from you. Your new scarf yarn sounds beautiful! I hope your vein ablation goes well today, please let us know. Phyl - Hope you are doing well. This morning I made all the border strips for an inner and outer border on the Hometown Charms quilt. Then I'll be ready to sew them on after the last block is made. There are just 4 more blocks left. I also made a test block from one of the quilts in that book "Simply Half Yards", it's the first quilt in the book and it's called "Comet" since the blocks kind of look like a comet. It was pretty easy to make so I'm going to make some more. Here's the block I did this morning and another picture of it with the fabrics I pulled to make other blocks. Take care everyone!

Ginny, I'm sorry to hear that dd#1 is sick. Knowing you as we do I'd bet you made dinner and took it over or else cooked one there. CJ, that does indeed look like a comet! I love the colors. You seem like a very calm person so I doubt you are a drama queen. My dd takes after her aunt..my dh's sister. Sue, I hope the vein ablation went well. It was a nice day today although as the day wore on it became windy and is windier and windier. Snow is expected on Thurs with a high of only 30 while today and tomorrow are in high 60's. I did go to the eye doctor today and pressure in my left eye is high. I've never had high pressure before. My mother, sister and a brother all have or had glaucoma. He ordered eye drops for me (another pharmacy miscue) and wants me to come back in one month. He said it could be from the cataract on my left eye but with family history most probable is glaucoma. This doctor is SO thorough. I haven't seen a doctor this thorough in years. I was very happy with him and his stall. It was my first time there. He did extra tests so it took longer than most exams and dh was home panicking because I was gone so long. I had my phone turned off of course so when he tried to call he coulldn't get me. He's not usually a person to panic but he did send messages to both of our kids What happened with the pharmacy is that while I was sitting in his exam room he sent a prescription to my pharmacy but when I got there they said they hadn't received it. I called the dr office when I got home. They checked their computer and found that their computer sent it to a pharmacy with the same name in another town so now that's straightened out. I did a littlle crocheting while waiting but not much. I'll do more this evening.

I was back at home in two and a half hours. There were some differences today, but I don't know what to call them! I was wrapped and steri-stripped, dressing, more dressing. My leg has been more uncomfortable afterwards this time! I have been walking around as directed and sitting with my leg elevated. Tomorrow morning I am supposed to unwrap and unwrap my leg but leave the steriStrps until my follow up appointment next week. The stocking stays on 24-7. I can take it off to shower. I don't have any plans for tomorrow, so I can struggle with the stocking for as long as it takes!
I've done several inches on the scarf between yesterday and today. It's very lightweight and should have multiple ways of tying and draping. I have never really experimented with scarf possibilities, so that should be interesting. With six months of winter, I wear a scarf a lot.

Sue - glad you checked in to let us know that you are ok and the procedure went well. So sorry to hear that this time the procedure has left you a bit more uncomfortable, and I pray that with your diligent care and time that it will heal quickly and well. Glad you do not have plans for today so you can stay home, crochet and rest that leg. Absolutely experiment with how you use your new scarf when its done! Some folks do an incredible job of draping a scarf so that it looks stunning.
Ruth, so glad to hear that you are getting such excellent medical care regarding your vision. I am very glad that you went to have your eyes checked, something that is so very important to do especially as we mature. I figure the doctor will want to check that eye again soon, also a sign of good follow up. What a shame about the pharmacy mix up, which was thankfully resolved quickly. Are you supposed to get much snow tomorrow?
CJ- yes the comet block is so pretty!! I love the swirl fabric - actually have the same fabric in red and gold. Its so versatile and fun to use. Is there a guild near you? I know many long armers do not advertise and get their business by word of mouth. I would also try Missouri for their long arm services. They did an excellent job on my grandsons quilt.
Well yesterday was a bit different than I thought it would be. DD has a friend who is a doctor (she has already been seen by her doctor) and her doctor friend suggested more blood work. So he emailed a script to her, which she was unable to print out (something was wrong with her printer). I printed out the script and drove it to her, and stayed for awhile watching DGS#2 while she showered and then went for bloodwork. Hoping for a quiet day today….and other than going to the store for a few things, I hope to be home.

Sue, I'm sorry to hear that your leg is more uncomfortable this time and pray it heals fast.Your scarf sounds beautiful and yes, with weather like we have here and you have in Big Sky country we need winter apparel of this sort. I have to say though, that I never use scarves.I've been thinking of making some for myself though and might do it.
Ginny, I wonder what your dd's doctor friend had in mind when he or she suggested and ordered more bloodwork. It's fortunate that you live near and were able to print out what she needed to get that bloodwork done and to be with the little one while she went and had the blood drawn.
I haven't heard from Phyl either. This is the only place I go to on the boards now but I imagine she is posting over on the over 60's site. I was just thinking of her yesterday and hope she is ok.
Well I have to go out today and need to get busy and write letters to the grandchildren to mail while out. I just have to pick up that prescription but dh might have some plan to shop or something.
