Did not sleep all that well last night, I struggled with falling asleep and staying asleep. Last night DD#2 and her DH and DGS stopped over. They were in town to see a display of Christmas lights and it was her bday.(which we celebrated on Saturday). So I did not get to work on the pin cushion as much as I had hoped to. Perhaps today I can make some more progress. I only have to stitch the stems on the tiny flowers, which should only take a few minutes, then move onto the assembly.
Hope everyone slept well.

Yay yay yay! read through the directions and I am done with hand sewing on the pin cushion. Next is cutting the backing and lining fabrics which are all stacked together and machine sewn. Leaving a small opening to insert the walnut shells and then hand closed. yes!!! G

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - Your pin cushion is so cute, good job! I hope you enjoy your easier week and that you sleep better tonight. Ruth - Sorry to hear about that cold weather you are getting! I understand about watching the pipes, I feel like I have to watch so many things in this old house. I'm glad you were able to get a deal on some yarn. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are well. It's been cool here but dry. I went out earlier to run some errands, so no quilting for me today. I finished most of the quilt top yesterday using the Little House on the Prairie fabric. I want to add an inner and outer border and I have some fabrics from that fabric line I can use. I hope to finish that this week and try not to start anything new. I need to go through and organize some things in my sewing room to get ready for next year. There are a few quilt alongs I want to participate in so I need to see what I have to get for those. Take care!

that is so cute Ginny. I can see where it was a lot of hand sewing but you did it and did a great job. I loved thinking about your "editor " (big black cat) sitting on your keyboard. I really love all the old hymns. I guess I'm more of a traditionalist. How did things go at church with the music problem? Yes yarn seems to last forever.I have some that I've had for years and years. Yarn prices, like everything else, have gone up and will go up even more so when I see a great sale I feel as though I need to get it while I can. Great sales are starting already and traditionally go through the end of Dec to the end of Jan but I will NOT buy any. Dh is an enabler in that respect and even bought some yarn recently for me.

Ruth, I have always loved that your Dh supports you in your hobby. Yes, if I refer to my “editor” it’s Yoda, who has a large presence….and likes to sit on my keyboard. He’s a very affectionate cat. I will say that its super hard to type with him blocking me from the keyboard. But I love him and am glad he is here. It went pretty well with the hymns on Sunday. I did sort of ‘wing it” with what I played for offeratory and prelude music, making a last minute change in music selection based upon how I felt. I just volunteered to also play Christmas morning, when we should have a pianist and organist making a joyful noise unto the Lord. Did you get any crocheting in? Are you supposed to get a lot of snow from this massive system that is crossing the country?
CJ- glad you are getting your errands done. I can imagine toward the end of the week its going to be rough going getting stuff done. You are wise to get the errands done now so you can quilt the rest of the week. Are you supposed to get rain on Thursday and Friday also? That is great that you are going to get your fabric and quilting supplies organized!! Something I must do also.

Hello Ginny - I'm glad to hear the music went well at the service and I hope you enjoy playing at the Christmas service. Sorry you are having Internet problems, hope that gets fixed soon. I'm supposed to get the rain on Thursday and Friday this week, but hopefully no snow. Are they predicting snow for you? Looks like either way it will be very cold. Ruth - It is hard to pass up some of those deals we see. I get multiple emails from quilt stores each day with sales of their fabric, it's hard to resist. I decided not to add any borders to that quilt top I just finished. I'm not in the mood for it and I didn't like the fabrics I was going to use, so I'm done with it. I did go through some pieces I had stacked up in my room and pulled out about 5 small pieces that I already had the backing with them. I'm going to go through my batting scraps and see if I can get batting for each of them and make the quilt sandwiches, then I can quilt them as I like. My latest "quilt obsession" is that I want to make a Temperature quilt for 2023. I don't know if you've seen any of these, they use a small fabric block to indicate the high and low temperature for each day of the year. I think I have fat quarters that will work for this and Moda fabrics put out some information and helpful pdf doc to track temps and your fabrics: my.modafabrics.com/inspiration-resources/tempquiltintroI hope I can make this in 2023 because I've been wanting to make one for several years. I'm just trying to figure out what block I'll use, but I think I'm going to keep it simple and just use two small pieces of fabric sewn together in a strip to indicate the high and low temps each day. Take care everyone!

CJ, I have seen temperature afghans but not quilts. What a great idea to use up fabric! I’m not supposed to get snow later on, I am supposed to get a lot of rain Thursday and Friday. I think that’s a great idea for you to make a temperature quilt and it sure will be interesting looking! Will you do it In strips?

CJ- do you have any idea what quilt design you will use for your temperature quilt? The moda site had several on their page and I figure if you look further there are other patterns you could use. Think your idea to use two strips one for the daytime high and the other for the low is a cute idea, have fun picking out the fabrics. And you know that is the beauty of quilting, we can make our quilts and afghans anyway we like. There are no rules, right or wrong. My weather forecast has no snow, at least at the moment. They are indicating 2-3 inches of rain, spread out over 2 days and perhaps some wind.(hope I keep my electricity). Then the temps drop into the 20’s. So for now, no snow, but I think if you travel only a hundred miles west, there will be snow.
Babysat DGS today- DGS#2 has a stomach bug so it was just DGS#3. He was very silly and pretty well behaved.
Right now the Ipad is running off my phone data somehow. Got ANOTHER service call into my cable company and they are coming tomorrow to fix the problem. Maybe.

Ginny - I'm glad you are not getting the snow. Looks like we both just get rain, but roads might be icy. I don't have to go out anywhere, hope you don't either. For the temperature, I really like the ones with half square triangles and flip and sews, but I know that will get old (and I'm lazy LOL), so I'm leaning towards one of these options instead which is just two pieces sewn together in a straight line: www.liveacolorfullife.net/search?q=temperature+quiltwww.canuckquilter.com/2020/01/temperature-quilt-2020.htmlI like the quilt with the wavy lines, but that means more piecing with all that background fabric, so I'm not sure I'd keep up with that. For the one from the Live A Colorful Life blog, I'm trying to figure out what size her fabric pieces are. I can tell they aren't square, it's two rectangles, but not a very long one. I'm going to test out a few options of different size rectangles and see what I like. I don't want a really large quilt and even making the pieces 1.5 inches by 3.5 inches gets a pretty large quilt. Hope you hear back from your cable company soon. Ruth - It looks like you are going to get some really cold weather, I hope you and DH will be alright.

CJ,I'm glad you got your errands take care of. The rest of the week with be crazy with people doing last minute shoppin. I do agree that if you are tired of working on something and also dislike the fabric you planned to use that you should call it done and set it aside. It sounds like you have a good plan for the temperature quilt and with 365 days in the year it would get very large if you didn't plan ahead. There are quite a few ppl in the crochet groups that have done or are working on temperature afgans.I've never seen a crochet one that I liked and I know that even if I did I would never keep up. I hope you stay nice and warm if this blast of super cold air hits your area. Ginny, sorry the little fellow is sick but it's nice you had only one to take care of today. I hope the little guy feels better fast.I'm glad the music went well on Sunday which I expected it would and same for this coming Sunday which,of course is Christmas Day. Is all the family getting together and I know your bday is very soon also.I hope your weather stays normal for winter and your electricity doesn't go out.I also hope they get to your house and fix the internet problem. You've told them what the problem is so all they have to do is do what it takes fix that right? I just watched the weather report and now the high for Thurs is to be even more below zero both during Wed and Thurs nights and Thurs during the day. We've had colder weather than the predicted -33. The year we moved here it did hit -45 not inc wind chill. We also might get some snow. The heavy snow we had the other days was mostly blown away here at my house. In other parts of the neighborhood that I could see from inside were very drifted. DH and I made both bean and split pea soup to warm us on these cold days. You know what I've been doing since ..crocheting while watching Columbo dvd's.

This will be short as I am still using a hot spot from my phone for the Ipad. Supposedly the tech will be here at 2 to fix the problem. Honestly their batting average is not too good, so I am not optimistic.
CJ- I really prefer the live a colorful life quilt, and am actually surprised that I do. Guess cause it showcases the difference in fabrics /temperatures better, as opposed to breaking it up with a background fabric. But its always individual taste…and you have to like what you are making. I did like how the designer inserted a small black marker when a temperature represented a record high or low. Just a neat way to deal with it.
Ruth, yup sounds like you are in for some weather. I know you and Dh are well prepared for the cold and your bean soup sounds wonderful. (I much prefer bean soup to split pea). Both soups are wonderful to warm you up and provide great nutritriron. Glad you have some good DVD’s to watch while crocheting. Makes for a wonderful day for sure. Its sad when a company has a monopoly. I could go back to my former ISP who was super reliable, but then I am in a pickle for television service. We had trouble with Direct TV during heavy rain or snow when service was very disrupted.
Got some crochet in and hope to get busy cutting out the fabric to complete the pin cushion. Ginny
Worked this am and am now waiting for the stupid cable company to arrive. I am really not optimistic about their ability to repair the problem

I think we might have more than one option now on internet. When I had Directv I had only tv through them and had and still have Spectrum. We could get Hughesnet but I've heard a lot of bad reviews on them.I think, though that new ones have become available here and do want to look into it at some point.I hope the repair person has been to your home and has done the needed repair.
It's already minus 15 here at noon. I thought the below zero temps were going to start later in the day.
I still need to click those links and look at those patterns and fabrics. I'll go there now

I like the ones on the Moda site best. Of course my favorite is the flying geese one. I do love the colors on them all and they are all very pretty. The ones on the last two links are not as beautiful as the Moda. Of course that's just my opinion. We all have different tastes but I tend to like the ones with larger pieces.
Ok, one more thing and I'll quit with weather. It's also windy here and we're to get snow also. Usually when it's this cold it's not windy so this is worse.
