Well here we go, another full week of January dates. Another year ! Guess I blabbed s lot yesterday. Started a crocheted head band last night, as I find that I like my ears covered in cooler weather. I have a few headbands my mom made, but they are in funky colors- she made them to match my kids winter coats or snow suits. So I found a partial skein in black which will be perfect and not collide with other things I might be wearing. A good project to work on while viewing a show or a game on television.
Plans for today might include a quick trip to the store, and putting away some Christmas decor. Just looked at the calendar and there is a lot of babysitting scheduled, so I think I will enjoy the day with nothing to do.

This is a typical overcast winter day! I'm celebrating because the winter solstice has passed, and the days are getting longer. I'm also dealing with the aftermath of a frozen pipe in the garage and all that goes with water damage. I had a heater in the garage close to the pipe, but it wasn't enough for the first time in 28 years. I have lots of yarn and fabric, but it's in plastic tubs or cabinets. It could have been worse!
The gremlins hid some important papers, but I finally found them last night. Now I can go to the bank to set up a new account.
When I was at the doctor last week, I was able to get the omicron bivalent vaccine. I'm very cautious about what I do and where I go still, probably too much so. While I'm in good shape for the shape I'm in, I'm still more at risk than I'd like to be.
Two of the woofers like to interfere with crochet time. They are very jealous and believe that when I sit down they own my lap. They're like little heaters which is great in the winter. While they aren't especially close friends, I acquired both of them on the same trip! That was thirteen years ago! Different locations, but same trip to Idaho. One is a wire haired miniature dachshund, and the other is a long haired. They are slowing down but haven't had any significant health issues. The other three prefer the dog beds on the floor and monitor things from a distance.

Ginny, I love to read your "blabbing". It sounds like you have a normal for you time ahead with babysitting and all. Yes headbands are easy and fast to do. I love making them. There are so many beautiful patterns for them also. I admire that you are able to walk over 2 miles early in the morning. I'd rather have my fingernails pulled out than get up that early Sue, you have five dogs? That's a lot of woofers! Sorry about your pipes and the water damage the freezer of said pipes made. I worry about that all the time...pipes bursting because of freezing. It's still overcast and it's also still snowing here. We had planned to go out to do some errands this week but maybe won't be able to. I wouldn't mind at all just staying home but dh might need something so maybe. In the meantime I will crochet and read and well..ok...some housework

Sue, good to see you here. So sorry about the frozen pipes, but it does sound as though your crocheting/knitting supplies were well secure from damage in plastic tubs. Wow you had gremlins who hid some papers from you? (Think we all suffer from them sometimes). Glad to hear that you have located what you need and can now go on to open another account. The first year there are so many details that can seem endless. Staying super organized can help, but I know I misplaced plenty of stuff /papers during that first year. I am glad that you were able to get the covid shot- my doctor has advised against getting any additional boosters. Will have to ask him if he still feels that way or not.
Ruth, I only got partway through making a headband. My “editor”- aka crochet assistant, aka mass of purring blubber who slept next to my head most of last night, was helping by chasing the yarn ball. Yes there are so many headband patterns, I went with the most simple one I could find. I am not a morning person at all, but love walking, love the sound of water and chirping birds. So it really was a treat to get out for an early am walk, and see and hear what I did. Actually made up for getting up early. Did you get much snow? I hope you are able to get it cleared or that it melts before you and Dh have to head out.
Walked again today with my friend. Good to catch up with her….now I am heading in for 3 days of rain, so you will not hear of me walking for a few days.
WIll try to get the binding attached to the table topper. Not sure if I have the energy for that. G

A young Buffalo Bills player just collapsed on the field and had a cardiac arrest. They did cpr for at least 15 minutes while they put him in the ambulance while continuing cpr. Doesn't look good. I'm praying for him and I know that everyone on the team, the other team, the crowd and all the viewers are doing the same.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well and having nice weather. It's still been mild here, which is nice. Sue - Sorry to hear about the frozen pipe bursting, hope you get all the cleaned up soon. I'm glad you have your dogs for company. Ginny - Hope the crocheted headband is going well and that you were able to get your binding done. Ruth - Hope you are able to get out of the house when you need to. Phyl - Hello I've been working on a few projects. I finished piecing the blocks for January on the temperature quilt and I have the February blocks laid out ready to sew. I finished cutting up the rest of the fat quarter fabric I have for this and I can see I would have run out. So I hope to get the extra fabric I ordered from Amazon this week. I've been going back and forth trying to figure out what blocks to do for the 2023 Rainbow Scrap Challenge. This is a monthly challenge where you get a color each month - January is blue. I had several plans that I've scrapped and as of right now I'm going to make 2 Ohio Star blocks each month - one with a light background and one with a dark background (see pictures below). I also want to make some crayon blocks, but I need to cut the pieces for those. And I'm looking at a few more things I might make - mostly really easy blocks. I'm using my fat quarters now that I pretty much used up all the bigger scraps. I'm also going to try the new "A Quilting Life" block of the month quilt along thta started yesterday. I'm not quite sure I'll do the whole thing, but I did make the first block and I like it. I'm thinking of just making 6 blocks in green and white and 6 blocks in blue and white (see picture below), but we'll see. I'm doing the larger 12 inch block and it was easy to make. I'd like to find a light blue polka dot fabric and then that would match with the green polka dot fabric. Here's a link to info on the quilt along: www.aquiltinglife.com/quilt-block-of-the-month-january-2023/ - I like the way she uses a white print background fabric. Tomorrow is the start of Pat Sloan's next quilt along, and I'm hoping to join that one too. Take care everyone!

LONG day of babysitting today….but it went well. Tomorrow should be easier.
CJ- yes, I do agree that the blocks she made on the quilting life web site, where there is a lovely print on a white background really opens up the door to bringing in other fabrics and colors so it looks coordinated. The blocks are cute and I am sure you will have a lot of fun working on that quilt or whatever part of the quilt you choose to do. Sounds like you will be flying through the temperature quilt as you are using a temperature profile from a previous year and do not need to wait for the current temperatures. It sill be a fun quilt for you to make.
Ruth, I was very tired and did not see the football game (but I did watch earlier games yesterday). They say that the player has stabilized, but it remains to be seen if his brain has seen any damage from an unusual and horrible incident. Football is a dangerous sport for sure. I am very glad they have postponed the rest of the game, and pray that the Bills player recovers completely.
Not going to get any crafting done today….tomorrow is another day however. G

CJ,my eye was immediately drawn to her white fabric with the little stems of leaves (I guess that's what they are.I couldn't see them that well] But I love yours esp the colors and fabric you chose.
Yes they do say his vitals are stable but it remains to be seen just how functionable he will be. I'm sure it took a little time to get his protective gear off so they could do cpr but the were quick getting to it so hopefully it was soon enough and he doesn't suffer a lot of brain damage.Hopefully too he will be able to breathe on his own because there are so many complications involved with patients with endotracheal tubes and ventilators.
I finished the Paw Patrol hats, the aviator hat and I think I have enough hats for the out of town family. Now I'm working on another of the fun fringe beanies for one of the great grandaughters. I want to make a couple hats that will accomodate low pony tails because many of the girls in my family have their hair held back like that not in ponytails or buns on top of their heads which most "bun" hats are designed for.
Ginny, I'm glad your long day is over and tomorrow will be shorter. It's always good to have time for yourself.
We got about six inches of snow but today was quite sunny even though cold. It doesn't look like we'll be getting out this week

Ruth, congrats on finishing all those hats !!!Will the fun fringe hats accommodate the low pony tails that some of your granddaughters wear? I am sure you have this all figured out, and will be able to make what is perfect for your lucky granddaughters. You must know their favorite colors, and I am sure its quite a balancing act making sure that everyone gets what they want. Sorry that the snow was significant enough to cancel any of your plans to go out. Will you be able to get someone else to plow your driveway if you get more snow? The little I hear about Damar Hamill (think that is his name) is that he is slowly improving. I guess it will take another few days before they will get a true sense of what kind of recovery he will have. I heard this morning that the game should just be declared a tie to allow the season to continue. I cannot imagine the players on either team wanting to play each other as a replacement game.
Another long day. Dd had a doctors appointment today and got some good news. She has had some super strange symptoms, and was decisively diagnosted with effects of long covid, however her doctor told her she should slowly resolve from most if not all of her strange symptoms. The only bad news she got was that the doctor said that both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals seem to be suffering equally from it. DSIL relieved me from babysitting but he was late, so it was a long day.
On a happier, DGS#2 has suffered from separation anxiety a lot…not so much when I sit for him but yesterday was rough. I found the most adorable book at the library (called LLama, Llama misses Mama) and took it out for him. Read it to him 6 times today! He got upset when he woke up from his nap and DD was not home yet, and I asked him if he wanted to read the book - read it 2 more times to him! Such a sweet book, and it seems to validate to him that its ok to miss his mommy cause she is going to come home eventually. I just ordered him a copy from Walmart…which will be here in time for when I babysit him next week.
No crafting today….think I am going to read tonight and call it a day. CJ- hope you had a great day. Ginny

Ginny, I'm sorry you've had such a long day but it seems like you were a huge help to dgs#2. That book does sound cute and could help may children. I'm glad you were able to find it online to order him his own copy that he can look at when he feels anxiety about his mom not being home. I'm glad your dd got good news from her doctor. There are so many unknowns with this virus and now they're saying that a new subvarient of omicron is spreading and is more contagious that the previous ones. they didn't mention if it was more or less likely to cause severe complications or death. No I won't be getting my driveway plowed. I don't know any plowing companies except the one the HOA hired to do our streets in the subdivison and I won't hire them. One of my neighbors tried to hire them to do her driveway and they told her they don't have time although they seem to plow the driveway of another neighbor even though they are certainly able to shovel their own where the woman thery refused is well over 80 years old. We'll just stay home. We do have a 4 wheel drive but even 4x4's can't get over large hills of snow when they get hung up so that the wheels don't touch anything.
The fun fringe hats are for the little great grandaughter's so their hair won't be a problem in hats but you gave me a good idea for the fringe hats in that I can leave part of the seam undone to accommodate ponytails . These hats are made flat and seamed. I'm not fond of this method but I don't sew them, I slip stitch the seam together with my hook.
CJ, how are you today? You could be typing at the same time. Did you go out to take care of errands or are you working on your beautiful quilt tops?

Hello Ginny - I'm sorry to hear you are sick, I hope it's a quick bug and you feel better soon Ruth - I hope the snow will get less so you can get out when you need to. I'm glad you're enjoying making the fringe hats. Yesterday I made the first block of Pat Sloan's new quilt along but ended up not liking it - this was using the crayola crayon fabrics. So I pulled another fabric combination I've had for a year or so and I'm going to use that instead. I made the block again this morning and I'm fairly happy with it. These aren't some of my favorite fabrics, but at least I'm using some of my stash. I also finished making some more blocks in blue fabric for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge monthly blocks. I' have a few more of those to work on. And the new clue for the Melodic Melody mystery quilt came out today, so I need to work on those blocks. Lots of things to keep me busy Take care everyone!

Doing somewhat better today- was actually able to get my oil changed (had an appointment for that) and run one other short errand. But now I am home for the day and will rest.
CJ- glad you are able to use up some of the fabrics in your stash. Funny how our taste in fabrics changes over time. It sure does sound as though you have plenty of quilting project to keep busy with.
Ruth - how long does each fringe hat take to make?
