Welcome to another week!!
Ruth, so the wall hanging/storage unit is something of your own design? Well, if anyone knew how to make something from yarn its you and I know Dh will be very happy with the project when its all done. Bet its also a nice break from scarves, afghans and hats just because its different. Sort of like working on hand sewing or a panel quilt instead of outright quilting. I agree with you the magic circle is not hard at all, and honestly when I first saw comments about it (long time ago) I could not see why it was considered difficult. Its pretty easy to do and I like to use it when I am making a hat.
Cj- the mini tumbler quilt sounds cute, how big a final project is it going to be? Panel quilts are so much fun! I enjoyed working on the one I made for my DBIL in Florida, which started to stretch my limited quilting skills. I have decent directions for finishing a panel quilt, which involves a mini 9 patch on each corner (modified 9 patch) and 2 borders. I would be happy to take a picture of those directions and email them to you. And hand sewing is so much fun….and a comforting project to take on in the winter.
Yesterday was a bit busy. Of course I went to church, then attended a lecture related to the local history project that my husband had been working on before he passed. I was on the fence if I would attend, depending upon how my mood was. Some days I just do not want to entertain any more of his projects as now most of the household duties fall to me. (Ds does some). I did watch some football games, which I enjoy and one show on TV. Curiosity got the better of me and I viewed the interview with Prince Harry. Most people resolve their problems privately, its sad that he has chosen to go on national television (both here and in the UK) to air his dirty laundry. All I can say is that there are two sides to every story and no one is perfect.
Late start for babysitting today, so I am enjoying a slightly more leisurely pace to start my day. I am really happy that I got back into the PMQ, which I want to finish and then quilt. CJ- looks like you have a week ahead that is not too cold, and not an excessive amount of rain and no snow!! It appears as though it will be a week in which it will be easier to keep your home comfortable. Ruth, checked out your general weather too…I was glad to see no really bitter cold weather and only one day of snow. Do you think you and DH will try to get out this week?
Started reading the Janette Oke series (which the television series When Calls the Heart was based loosely upon). The remote location in Canada where the story takes place makes me think of Ruth and the general area in which she lives.
Ok I have babbled enough. Ginny

Busy day watching little ones, but a fun day at that. My crafting for the day was to investigate craft supplies at Dollar tree. Dgd#2 will be home Wednesday so I want to have a little craft to do with her when she is home. will have to snoop around tonight and see what I can find.

Well, Ginny,we did go out today and the first thing that happened is I got the car stranded on the top of a snow hill in the driveway. I did mention to dh that I didn't think we could get out there but he thought we could so I tried it and got stuck. So we ended up going in our truck. (small truck, Honda Ridgeline) I don't drive it much because the previous owner put a cap on the bed which does make it handy for some things but makes it so that you can't see to back up. It has a back up camera but I don't trust those things esp in busy grocery store parking lots where people are coming from all directions.
I hope you find a nice craft for your dgd#2. I know she loved making things with you before she started going to preschool. She'll be happy to be home or at your home making a craft with Grandma.
CJ, I thought of you while in one of the two stores we went to. They had some yogurt at a reduced price and I saw that it was pumpkin spice. Made me wonder if you were able to get the pumpkin spice cereal (if I remember correctly) this year.
Oh and yes, the wall organizer is my design if you can call it a design. It's just one big rectangle with other smaller crochet rectangles sewn on to make pockets so not much of a design.
Yes it was fairly warm today...42 while we were out..but the wind was terrible making it feel much colder which is why dh left the car looking like a stranded turtle on top of the snow. It was hard to even stand up outside with the wind. The snow will melt and the car will be back on the ground. Or I could call my ins co because I do have roadside assistance but I won't.I don't need to use it right now anyway so it's fine where it is.

Ruth, I like to pull through parking spots (so that the vehicle noses out) or back in to a slot so I do not have to back out. It is difficult and sometimes dangerous to do that. Well your wall organizer sounds pretty cool to me and i know Dh will love it.

That's what I did today is make sure I could pull right out with no backing up. I always look for a spot where I can pull through and be able to just drive out even with the car.

Sure makes life easier. The best way to use those back up cameras is to scan them- and pretend they are just another mirror. You would never back up a car without constantly checking mirrors- so just make the back up camera part of your safe driving procedure.
Tired today…gee I wonder why? Gotta do some searching for a good craft for DGD for tomorrow.

Hello Ruth - I'm glad you were able to get out and do your shopping alright. Sorry to hear about the stranded car, hope the snow melts so you can move it I did find that cereal and have 2 boxes left that I'll eat in the next few months. Ginny - Hope you can find a fun craft to make with your DGD. I bet that series of books is going to be good, hope you enjoy reading them. I finished that series I mentioned back in December (I think), it was 11 books and I really enjoyed it. I've started another series by the same author. I hope your weather is nice this week too. The furnace is working so-so, some days I can keep it comfortable other days it's cold downstairs, hot upstairs. Thanks for your offer on the panel quilt pattern, I'll let you know if I need it I have lots of pictures and patterns for panels, just need to make them. I probably have about 50 quilt panels to use! I was/am kind of addicted to them. I've tried to stop buying them over the last few years, because I know I'll never get them used. I'm trying to pull out the ones I really like the best and use those. I went out yesterday to do some shopping and errands. I had to go in 6 different places, so by the time I came home I was tired and that was it for me for the rest of the day This morning I finished quilting and binding the mini tumbler quilt which measures 17x20 inches. I also pulled out and starched/pressed the panel I want to work with next. As you can see it has 8 separate pieces that I need to cut apart. I'm just trying to figure out what type of blocks I want to add to go with them. I do have a charm pack of this fabric line so I could use that to make some blocks. I'm thinking about one that is a 3 yard quilt pattern. It has a block that has a smaller 4 patch in the middle with sides around it, then this block is alternated with the panel blocks. Hope you all have a good day, take care

I did get my car unstuck.I just had to shovel about 5 shovels full from behind the one tire and then I was able to back up a little and get a running start thru the snow.Dh had tried to push us out yesterday but there was just too much snow in front and behind the right side tire and underneath the car. Ginny, that's good advice to start practicing using the backup camera. I tried it this morning after I read your post and worked on getting the car out.
CJ, I didn't know what a mini tumbler quilt was. Now I do and it's lovely. I love the colors. The pictures in the panel are beautiful but are winter scenes so not my favorite as they remind me too much of dampness and cold but that panel will make a great quilt.

Good morning,,
Ruth, so glad you got your car out and it does not sound like it was too awful a process. I am so happy that you and Dh were able to accomplish that without injury. Dealing with snow and ice sure is a struggle at times. Backup cameras are a nice addition to our arsenal of equipment when we drive, to help us stay safe. They are helpful but you still need to use mirrors and direct vision when possible. Did you finish the wall hanging for Dh?
CJ- Yes errands (and with 6 stops! ) can be tiring. But I bet you are glad they are done. The tumbler quilt is simple and sweet…and sometimes that makes for the perfect quilt. Nice job putting it together and your squiggle line quilting is perfect for that pattern. I will respectfully disagree with Ruth…ha ha ha…the panels with winter scenes are so pretty. I love the peaceful quiet of winter and this fabric sure does remind me of that. Gee I should ask you if you have a Harley Davidson quilt panel! I would love to make a Harley panel quilt for my friends husband, but have not found one yet (also have not looked too hard either!) And mind you I am NOT a biker. Anyway you have a nice collection of panels to chose from and they are fun to work with for sure.
Got my crafts ready for the grandkids today. I did crochet a tiny bit last night…this is my last babysitting day this week but the rest of the week is a bit busy. BBL Ginny

well I'm sure glad I got the car out yesterday because we had a surprise snowfall during the night. It isn't windy yet but it was the wind that made the drifts the car was stuck on.I just looked out now and it's snowing again...a lot.
I'm surprised there aren't Harley panels or fabric available. you didn't mention fabric and I bet they have some of that but panels, well they need to have some because a lot of people like to make Harley based items (I'm not one of them)Your friend's husband will be thrilled if you make one for him
Yes I did finish dh's wall organizer. All I had to sew was the lines that make the pockets and it reminded me of how bad I am at hand sewing
And Thank you Ginny for reminding me that I forgot to mention the quilting on CJ's quilt. CJ, you did a great job on that. I noticed that right away.

Did you get much snow Ruth Hope it is not too much, but I am glad you got out yesterday and hopefully got some errands done. Yes, good idea that perhaps I can find some Harley fabric, it I could find something like the pretty winter panels that CJ just posted, I could make that work. Funny we do not know each other at all here, really. You have no idea if I look like a biker chick (could not be farther from the truth!). And honestly I have never been on a motorcycle and never want to go on one. But I respect that my friends enjoy that. CJ- how was your day?

Hello Ruth - I'm glad you got your car unstuck before the new snow. I understand that snow scenes would remind of you cold/wet. It's easier for me to enjoy them getting so much less snow and cold. Ginny - I don't have any Harley panels, most of mine are landscapes. I looked on Etsy and there is a lot of Harley fabric, so maybe you can find something if you want to buy it. Hope the kids enjoyed the crafting today. I figured out how I want to layout the panel pieces for a quilt top. So I've separated the panels into 8 parts and trimmed them and started working on the blocks I want to use with them. I wasn't able to spend much time on it today but hope I can finish it in a few days. Pat Sloan's new block pattern came out today and it's pretty, so I hope to work on it too. www.ilovetomakequilts.com/2023/01/childhood-memories-block-2-holiday-hoopla-sampler-qal-layout-.htmlTake care

I don't know how much snow we got because I haven't been outside.I haven't even opened the door to look out but it looks like a significant amount from the window..not a horrible amount but enough to cause problems with driving.
I've been on a motorcycle twice. Once with my uncle and once with a cousin. Both were over 50 years ago and both were really short rides
CJ, You're right. That block is very pretty. I wonder what the ones to come are going to look like.I'm glad your were able to decide how to arrange the pictures from the panel
I haven't done any crocheting yet today but I'm planning to start in a minute.I want to make this neck warmer for myself to keep my "turkey neck" warm and covered. Not in this pink though. I have a nice yarn that I'll use if I have the right color to go with my coat and I think I do. Senior moment but they have similar yarn in both Red Heart and Lion Brand. I can't think of the name.

Good morning!
CJ- glad you came up with a layout that you are happy with for your winter scenes quilt. Perhaps working on that quilt will provide a vision of the beauty of a winter snowfall without all the hassle of one! Agreed, Pat Sloans latest quilt block is a pretty one, are you making the entire quilt that she has for this year? And thanks for the idea of Etsy..I have to seriously evaluate what I want to do regarding this possible quilt. (And no, i never figured that you had any Harley Panels!) Right now my mind is wandering to the thought that I could make one of those 3 yard quilts for him- but am also not totally sure that is the path I want to take.
Ruth, were you able to find the yarn for your neck warmer? Nice to hear that you are making something for yourself. You are so busy making for others, a neck warmer sounds so cozy and comforting. Hope you did not get too much snow.
BBL Ginny
