I buy lottery tickets about once every 2-3 years and only if there is a huge payout. Of course I have never won. Yes it would be lovely to have someone to do our errands…I do not mind errands too much. Well not usually!! Ruth, glad the pattern came through. The print is pretty small on what I printed off the internet (and had actually paid .99 cents for. Glad you were able to enlarge it.

So my crafting for the day was reading through a chapter of a quilting book that I have, investigating a quilt design.

That sounds like a good craft. reading about things we like to make really can inspire us. My crafting for today has consisted of crafting a pot of beef stew and looking at yet more patterns but I'm about to start crocheting on the blanket I call the Ginny blanket. I still have to figure out how long I want it.
CJ, I hope you're having a good day and that your weather is not too bad.
See you all later

Have fun with the Ginny blanket, Ruth!!! I love the way it works up and it’s a tight enough crochet that little fingers cannot get caught. For some reason I thought you had already started this afghan. Beef stew is a nice meal for a cold winter day…
CJ- hope you are not getting the rain that I am. Winter rains are cold and damp for sure. Are you working on the pretty winter quilt you had mentioned?
Went for a walk with my friend this am, yes it’s raining, but was not too bad when we were walking. It’s a cold rain however.

Yes I had started it back then and I was surprised at how much of it I had finished back then. I guess you missed that post the other day that said that I actually had quite a lot done on it before you sent me the pattern again. I looked the pattern up online and it's not available anymore even to buy and I can see why. First it's a very easy pattern, next is that much of it is wrong. Pattern itself is good but she lists the yarn needed as Bernat pound of love which, as you know is incorrect and she also lists it as a #3 yarn and It's a 4 albeit a light #4. Something else too that I can't remember right now. When you click the link it takes you to Yarnspirations and a pattern of theirs with the same name but is not the same stitch pattern.I can't believe the woman that was selling the one we're using charged for it.It obviously is not her own creation. Still I love the pattern and will probably make a few more of these same ones to donate because, as you said, little fingers and toes won't get stuck. And it's nice and soft and light.Oh I remember now, the other mistake was the multiples to make it another size. Don't think I didn't appreciate you sending me this pattern because I definitely do''
'm waiing to see if dh still wants to go shopping today..I hope not. It's too windy.

Hello - Hope you are all doing well and your weather isn't too bad. It was mild here yesterday, but today we have a cold and rainy day. Ginny - I'm glad you were able to get out and walk, even in the rain. Hope you have a project to work on. Ruth - Hope you don't have to go out in the wind. It's interesting how many patterns end up not being written correctly. It seems like there are a lot of crochet ones that you have found. I'm glad you can figure them out and still make the item. I went out yesterday to get my car serviced and get groceries, so that was all I did This morning I made the next block in the Pat Sloan Quilt along and I also finished up the Snow Angel quilt I've been working on. It finished at 48x63 (I made the border 1 inch smaller). That is a really easy and nice pattern. I'm thinking about trying it in a smaller size with other fabrics. I'm attaching a picture of the test block I did for the planter quilt and also the fabric that I'm going to use as a border on the plant quilt when I make it. I'll pull colors from this border fabric for my plant containers and plants. I've had this fabric for several years and it's been really difficult to figure out how to use it. But it will make a great border for this quilt. I'm also making a Valentine's Day wall hanging. It's a free pattern from the Fat Quarter Shop and I pulled and cut all my fabrics from my fat quarter stash. I'll try to get it together tomorrow. It's a nice wall hanging size. Here's a link to the pattern: www.fatquartershop.com/love-note-quilt-pattern-free-pdf-pattern-fqs-exclusiveTake care everyone!

Ruth, sorry about all the confusion on the afghan!!! I do remember that you mentioned having a fair amount of the completed, and guess I got hung up on wording and my misinterpreting what was there. Yes it’s problematic - and sure does seem as though some patterns should be fact checked. Were you able to stay home and not have to go out in the wind?
CJ- that border fabric will be so cute with the planter quilt! And the snow angel quilt really showcases the fabrics beautifully. I do not blame you for wanting to make that quilt with other fabrics. Love the pinwheel blocks on the edge. And I bet you are glad to have the car serviced. Just one more thing that you have to take care of- but something important because we depend on our cars.
Had my friend over for dinner (also a widow). She just lost her job, and I was hoping it would be good for her to get out. A nice evening…and I am glad she came over.

CJ,I love those colors. The border fabric is going to be perfect. And that block with the plant is just so pretty. You not only have a knack for picking fabrics but also for picking the patterns you do and I really appreciate you posting all these pictures. It's not always easy to do and I love seeing them. Speaking of getting your car serviced,I need to make an appointment to take mine fairly soon. The nice thing is they have a nice waiting area where I can sit and crochet. There's usually not many people around and sometimes I'm the only one. I laughed when I saw the sticker saying when I needed to bring it back because I have only about 200 miles, if that, since I had the oil changed last year. I hope they don't find anything awful like they did two years ago when rodents had chewed my wires. Anyway It's great that you were able to get your car done and also some shopping
Ginny, you're always so kind and caring to your friends and it's great you had her over for dinner. I'm sure it was greatly appreciated. No we didn't end up going out but have to tomorrow for the doctor appointment which undoubtedly will cause my poor dh a lot of stress.
I got the blanket done and now plan to work on another of my unfinished projects the rest of the evening and that will be my Tilted squares blanket. I'm working down my list.
Have a good night everyone!

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today and having good weather. We have a windy, cold day here but it's sunny. Ruth - I hope you can get your car in to be serviced. I never go the 3000 miles they recommend before it's time for me to get my oil changed because I drive so little. I usually wait about 6-7 months to get mine changed. I like to go to Valvoline where you just sit in the car and never have to get out. I'm glad you are making process on your list of projects. Ginny - I'm glad you had a nice evening and meal with your friend, she's lucky to have you to support her. Phyl and Sue - Hello I sorted through my panels this morning and pulled out 10 of them that I'd like to work on this year. I probably have 20 or more left, and some I really like, but many of them I don't really care for now. It's funny how our tastes change. I have 3 of the 10 panels that I want to work on right away, so I hope to start on those soon. At least the rest of them are folded nicely and put away. I have some bagged quilt kits (pattern and fabrics) that I hope to go through next and make sure I still want to make those. It's good to get a little organization done. I also want to work on my temperature quilt some more, maybe this weekend. I have up through April done so far. Hope you all get to do some crafting this weekend. Take care

Ruth, glad to hear that the baby afghan is done! You must have been pretty far along with it to finish it so quickly, although the pattern is pretty stress free to work up. How large did you make it? Did you put the border on it exactly as the designer described? If I remember correctly for the border they had a stitch anchored and then a chain 6 to the next slip stitch. I found the chain 6 created far too big a loop (remembering the discussion we had on little fingers getting caught) so I reduced the chain 6 to chain 3 or 4. I found that worked beautifully and still created a pretty border. Did you get DH to the doctor today? I hope it was a low stress visit and that your day was pleasant
CJ-were you able to make any more progress on the planter quilt?
I knew today was going to be busy - and it was. I got a bunch of errands run and on the way home pulled over to chat with Dd#1 - as I was entering a dead zone. She has had some health issues (which thankfully seem to be improving) but had a visit with another specialist who seemed to cause more confusion than help, and also did not seem to want to listen to her. So I pulled off the road to be sure my full attention was on her.
I for one am looking forward to a quiet weekend, and hopefully start working on putting that PMQ together. My favorite magazine. (Country Woman) is being discontinued. I loved that magazine because it had some recipes, nice articles, some crafts and some puzzles. And you did not have to live on a 2,000 acre ranch to appreciate it (although in the past years they became more focused on horses…and I am not a horse person.). Anyway, the last issue arrived in December, Today I got a magazine called Iowa in the mail, and its editor is a former editor of Country Woman. Well, looks like maybe a nice magazine , but I do not live in Iowa! Oh, I will read it,, or at least take a look. My Dd found another “country” type magazine which she gave me as a birthday gift. I will look forward to that subscription starting, which I think starts in a week or so.

CJ! Well, this is not the first time that we have posted at the same time. Looks like you snuck in while I was still blabbing away. I’m glad you got to make some choices over the panels that you wanna work on immediately. And I hope that you enjoy making those panel quilts when you decide to do so.Do you have the coordinating fabrics that you will need to put borders on them? If not, may be a fun trip to Joannes would be in order. Like you, I get my car wheel changed every 6 to 7 months, they explained it to me that just because of the seasonal differences that it’s just good to have Oil changed. I usually wait at the dealership for them to do it. They have a pretty good deal for getting having that done and they also rotate the tires. I’d like to try and keep these tires as good as I can so I don’t have to replace them too soon. Would you consider donating the quilt panels to a guild if you’re not planning on using them or they’re not to your taste anymore? I think it’s really funny that you were already up to April for your temperature quilt, but what a cool thing to do to use a temperature profile from a previous year or two so that you can get the quilt done and not have to wait for an entire year to pass.

Hello my friends. Dh and I got home not long ago. His app't was at 1:30 but we arrived there early and they took him in early. He was in there for almost 2 hours a lot of which was waiting. They did a lot of xrays and want him to have an MRI...about time!! AFterward we stopped at the grocery store mainly because we both have a new Advantage plan that gives money toward food and OTC's so we put a lot of meats in our cart only to find that that particular store is not a participating store in that program. We got the meat anyway because it was a good price. Dh was a little stressed but not too bad.
CJ, Yes looking through our craft supplies does sometimes show us that some of the items we had for our craft are things we no longer care for. I also wondered if you were going to use those panels anyway eventually or just donate to some organization. I have a whole large box full of threads for crocheting which I'm almost certain that I'm not going to ever use so I was thinking of donating to the rescue mission thruft store. I can't really see well enough to make those items made from especially the #10 thread. I also have a large box of yarns that I call my my novelty yarns. I've already donated a bunch of those but still have that one box. Some could be used with other yarn or for embellishments on some crochet items but realistically I probably won't ever use any of it. I
Ginny, I remembered that you didn't do the border exactly the way the pattern states but I couldn't remember if you did an entirely different border or if you modified the one with the pattern. I, also, was concerned about the loops so I just did a row of sc around then 3 rows of hdc and it looks nice with the pattern. I have to measure again but I'd say the blanket ended up being about 32x38 or somewhere around there. I do hope you have an enjoyable and restful weekend and am sorry to hear that the specialist your dd went to only confused everything. He sounds much like most doctors here. Our doctor listens but It always feels like everything is listened to but immediately forgotten.
I did get some crocheting done while waiting for dh but only a couple rows then put it away. I'm going to go upstairs now and get the bag it's in and work on it. It's the Tilted Scales blanket which I'm making with Lion Brand Mandala in the colorway of Spirit.

Ruth, once again I learn something about crocheting from you. Earlier you had mentioned the Tilted squares blanket, so I looked the pattern up. It’s a cool pattern, and I think that the mandala yarn will work up beautifully in that pattern. When is Dh going to have the MRI? Is he ok with that? (Some people do not like going for tests). Glad you got a good price on meat, even if that store was not participating in the advantage program.

Hello - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I hope your DD will get some clarification on the medical issues, it's frustrating when medical people don't make things clear for us when we aren't well. Sorry to hear that magazine is being discontinued. I used to buy and read that one, but don't buy too many magazines anymore which I guess a lot of people aren't doing. Hope you enjoy the new ones. Ruth - I'm glad your DH's doctor has an MRI scheduled. Sorry to hear how long the appointment was and that the grocery store you went to wasn't in the program. I'm sure I'll donate some of my quilting things someday, or hopefully my family will if I still have them when I'm gone. Several of the panels are pretty just like they are, so I may just quilt them up without adding any borders. I finished two more months on the Temperature quilt today, so I have up to June done. I hope to get the rest of it finished by the end of February. This afternoon I pulled out the quilt kits I've had stacked up. I hope to go through them tomorrow and make a list. It looks like I might have close to 20 kits, and that doesn't count the fabric groupings I have stored with my stash (probably about 10 of those with no pattern in mind). Hope you are all having a good day and getting to do some crafting. Take care

CJ, I don't know how I missed it but I didn't notice the hummingbirds on the floral fabric before. I love humming birds and they really add a lot to that fabric which is already very beautiful! 20 kits is a lot of kits. I used to have a lot but I took them apart to use the yarn in other ways. I hope my family donates my yarn either to some of the family or some good organization. I'm sure I mentioned it but My dd and her dh threw all his mother's yarn away when she passed. I'm still angry about that. Even if they hadn't given it to me there are sure people who could have used it.
Ginny, In answer to your question, the people at the doctor office told dh that the staff where the MRI's are done will call him to find out when he wants to have it done.
Well I'm watching the football game and crocheting at the same time. The tipped scales blanket (I keep getting the name wrong) is so repetitive that it gets boring after awhile and hard on the fingers too so I started another. I looked for the blanket with the cabbage patch stitch that I had started before I started the Ginny blanket 5 years ago but I couldn't find it today so I started a new one. The stitch is also pretty repetitive but easy on the hands. It does have openings but they're not super large and there are a lot of people that don't know or care that babies can get little fingers stuck in them. Personally I've never seen a baby get their fingers or toes stuck in a blanket but I haven't been around very many babies that had crochet blankets.People in the crochet groups debate the subject often.Anyway I'll go back and forth between the two. I love how CJ can do blocks for several quilts at a time so decided to work on a ccouple blankets at a time. I don't usually do that. What I do is set one aside and don't get back to it for years as you can tell.
