Good morning!! Ruth- I do hope that you made it through the night with your power and that the high winds are not a problem. Were you able to motivate yourself to work on the sleeves for the baby sweater? You made so much progress with this project, hope you can motivate yourself to finish it so that you can check the sweater off of your “to do list”. Hope you were able to get your email sent and message sent on messenger. Once I am done saying hello, that is what is next on my list- email and a hopefully brief message.
CJ- what a relief that this winter has been easier for you to deal with regarding the weather and your heat. Just checked my phone…my friend’s temp is predicted to be 75 degrees. Wow that sure is hot for this time of year. Because it’s only one day the heat will not be able to build in your home and you should be able to stay comfortable. That is a good feeling of accomplishment that you must have getting the quilt together and a small inner border added. Hope your outer border fabric arrives soon so you can finish that quilt top! I am happy for you that you were able to use fabrics you had in this quilt and that the quilt makes you happy. Think that is what it’s all about!!!! Good luck figuring out which fabrics to use for the next Pat Sloan patterns- so that you can then machine quilt this weekend.
Well, I am not feeling 100% but am functional. I did head out to pick up some night time cough syrup last night and a half dose got me through the night fine. Think after my computer time I will get the final border on the PMQ and at that point decide if I want to actually put the quilt together with a batting and backing. Think the thought of un attached pieces sitting around will bother me, so I will finish the assembly. I did become encouraged by going to the quilt shop yesterday- I have all the fabric needed for 2 fabric cafe quilts (and the directions of course) and while at the quilt shop saw one quilt that I thought was really pretty on display. Well, when I looked at the design it was a fabric cafe design. I really like the fabric for the one quilt….and would like to get started on that quilt.
Ok so my quilting list for this year is…..2 baby quilts (for my neighbors little ones), my DD’s tshirt quilt, a panel quilt for my friends Dh (Harley Davidson panel), and 2 fabric cafe quilts (one for my living room the other a christmas pattern). Guess I should write that down eh? And mind you the baby quilts will either be minky fabric quilts (pretty easy to put together) or panel quilts- again easy. And the T shirt quilt is directly dependent on DD getting the T shirts to me.
Enough from me!!! Phyl is alive and well, I did a quick search for her and she posted elsewhere. I have, in the past, tried to maintain posting on more than one thread, and me being a bear of little brain, am lucky I can keep up with one. I hope she stops in to say hello when she can…and hope she is doing fine!
Sue, we miss you and love hearing from you when you can check in.
Ok - I did just write down my quilt to do list and added to the tail end of it the scrappy quilt I want to make. Have a great day all G

Hello Ruth - Hope the weather wasn't too bad and it's getting better there. Ginny - I'm glad you're feeling better and you've found some more quilts to make - they sound like great projects. I understand about just wanting to get the PMQ top together. I try to do that will all my projects even when there have been times I wanted to quilt and not finish the top. I push myself to finish it so I can at least say the top is done. Good luck with the PMQ quilt. I have 2 of the 3 yard quilts I want to make, but I find her patterns a bit hard to read. So I was thinking I'd take the pattern and write it out so that I understand it and hopefully that would make it easier. It was very warm here today and sunny. I think it almost got up to 80 degrees. I think we've often had a random day in February where it gets warm, so it's not that unusual to me. I finished making the two Pat Sloan blocks and I'm happy to be done with the Holiday Hoopla one. It had a bunch of half square triangles and flying geese units, so there were lots of seams and laying it out required a lot of attention. I know I keep saying I won't do anymore quilt alongs from her books because it's difficult to deal with the pattern on my Kindle, but maybe this will be the last one Pat Sloan is doing another block a day in March, like she's done for the last several years. I like this one since it's an easy 4 patch and solid square, so I'm going to try to find two fabrics and participate. I'm going to try to get ahead of the game and make some of the 4 patch units and cut the squares, so I just only need to make the block each day instead of the parts of the block too. Here's a link to info: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/2023-march-block-a-day-1.htmlTake care

Right now at 8pm my time it's already -8 so we'll see how the night goes. They didn't predict that it would get this cold tonight. Last night according to ABC news it got to -32 last night. We didn't lose power and it wasn't real windy so I'm ok with that. They also said that we got 10inches of snow but according to the local news we got just over 7 inches. I'd love to have CJ's 80 or my ds' 75.
CJ, those blocks look really nice and I love the pink fabric she used. Are those sea turtles on it. It's hard for me to see what they are even after enlarging the picture. My youngest dgd loves sea turtles. I wouldn't mind finding some of that fabric but then, again, I might never get around to doing anything with it. Writing out your pattern is a really good idea CJ, I often have to write mine out in my own words and also just put one action at a time on each line of the paper and I check them off as I go.
Ginny, it sounds like you have a lot of quilts planned for the rest of the year. When are those twins due. I guess you'll have to work your quilting schedule to have those done by the time they are born. I'm glad the cold med worked for you and hope the whole cold is gone soon especially since your week off is nearly over.
I did get a few of my unfinished projects together and organized the yarn in the "winter quarters" and straightened up a bit. I did work on my baby sweater sleeves last evening but I don't know if I wasn't paying enough attention to the video or if the pattern itself is wrong because the sleeve turned out to be 8 inches around and I know a newborn doesn't have arms that big so since then I've been working on revising the pattern to make the sleeves smaller. I'll finish them tonight.
Have a great night and I hope you both get a restful sleep.

Good morning!
Ruth, I am relieved to learn that you and Dh kept your power through this heavy winter storm. It sure sounds like it’s cold My phone says you are minus 8 right now, that is plenty cold. A good thing that you did not get snow over a foot- which I had seen in one forecast. Good thing that you figured out the sleeves on the baby sweater were too large, better to figure it out now before you were hoping that the sweater was done.
CJ- that is a cute block that PS posted- I like the teal fabric and it will be neat to see what she does with the teal and the other pink fabrics she pulls in . I really liked looking at the hometown charms (think that was the name) quilt. It was all in blues/ greens and an orange as an accent . So pretty. Congrats on making the two blocks and the holiday hoopla block. We won’t hold you to your suggestion not to do any more QALs… Think we all know how tough it can be to follow some direction sets and I can imagine translating from a kindle to book or Vice verse can be challenging.
So I sat down with all good intentions of working on the PMQ, and just lost my inspiration. Totally. I carefully folded all the remaining pieces, quilt body and directions and put them in the closet in a large zip lock bag. Then I took out the directions for the fabric cafe quilt - started reading through that. I have my fabrics figured out. (The fabric cafe quilts call for 3 fabrics and how each fabric is used is critical). If I did not have this cold I probably would have started working on it.
Busy day full of errands today and I am babysitting DGS#3 later on while his parents go out for an early dinner. My cold is slowly fading out. I feel a bit better this morning than I did yesterday at the same time.

Well Ginny, at least those errands will be done now and in the new week they won't be there for you to do on top of everything else. I'm sorry the PMQ didn't work out and I think it's a good idea to set it aside, at least for now. You have a lot of other quilts on your agenda that may be more satisfying to make. I hope your weather stays ok and that your ds has safe and easy trips to work and back.
CJ, I bet you're picking out fabrics or putting blocks together. It's great that you got a head start on your blocks for that one quilt.
I have to laugh every day when I look at my email. If I really won all the things that they tell me I've won at Lowe's, CVS, and other places I'd have a houseful of free things. I keep reporting them but they keep coming back. I've also received two emails from Meg's old email address in the last couple days. I spend most of my time in email just sending things to the trash barrel
I just finished my little sweater except for sewing on the three little buttons. I need to decide what I'm going to work on next. I do have a list but which one do I want to choose?
My oldest grandson in Indiana thanked me multiple times already for the blanket I gave him when we went there last year but yesterday he sent me an email with a picture of it and thanked me once again and said he really loves it. I'm happy that he loves it and also that he sent me the picture because I hadn't taken a picture of it and it's really pretty if I do say so myself. It actually was pretty easy to make too. Now the one I made for oldest dgd there was much more complicated but dgd was definitely not as enthusiastic about hers.
OK, off to decide on my next project.
Have a great day everyone

Hello Ruth - I'm glad you are doing alright with the very cold weather. Hope that continues. That's nice that your DGS told you again how much he liked his blanket and that he sent you a picture of it Hope you enjoy your next project. Ginny - I'm glad you are feeling better. I understand losing inspiration to work on a project. You had a good idea to bag it up and maybe some day you'll feel like working on it again. What 3 Yard pattern are you going to make? I'm thinking about trying the City Lights pattern to use that large floral fabric I showed a picture of the other day instead of making the BQ2 quilt. It was a nice sunny day here and still pretty mild in the 60s in the morning, but falling to the 40s later in the day. I was able to machine quilt two of the panels I had sandwiched. I did still have to pin them and mark them for my straight line machine quilting. I have two more to do and hope to get them done this weekend. I received all the fabrics I ordered for quilts I'm working on and want to work on, plus a few fun choices for myself So now I can get the border on the red, white and blue quilt. I'm hoping when it's done I can get a good enough picture of it. It's larger than my design wall so I'll have to have some fabric hang at the end. Take care and have a good weekend!

Good afternoon, CJ- that is so exciting that your fabrics arrived, along with the other goodies that you ordered. It’s just so neat when the package arrives and you can actually feel/touch the material…Hope that it inspires you and is exactly what you were looking for!! CJ do you use a walking foot with an extension (which Might be the wrong term) to measure out how far apart the lines of stitching need to be? I hope that you are able to get your quilt tops pinned together and marked, ready for you to do your magic on them. Ruth, I seem to remember that you were specially close to DGS#1- and it’s so very sweet of him to let you see how very much he loves the afghan. I figure that when he uses that afghan he is reminded of how much his grandma loves him and how glad he is to be home. Just a suggestion, why don’t you black list or block meg’s email address? It saves you from having to delete it and also avoids any possibility of there being something bad attached. Yay- the sweater is done!! I wonder what project you will decide to work on next. I slept poorly last night, and this cold is still a problem. If I wake up feeling the way I did this am, I might try to get to urgent care. I do not have a fever. I do feel pretty crummy and am tired. Got some embroidery done this am, and will return to that shortly. The Fabric cafe pattern I like is called farmhouse chic. It caught my eye when I bought the instruction book and I will see if I can import a link for the pattern www.3yardquilts.com/farmhouse-chic-made-by-fabric-cafe/G

Hello Ruth - Hope the weather is getting better for you. What new project are you working on? Ginny - I'm sorry to hear you still aren't feeling that way, did you go to urgent care? I hope you are feeling better soon. That's a pretty pattern for a 3 yard quilt I use painter's tape and a ruler to mark my quilts before I quilt them. I tried that extension bar once and it just didn't work well for me. I like to quilt farther apart than most people since I don't like a heavily quilted piece. I had the same problem this time when I was machine quilting as the last time. I can do a test piece of fabric and the stitch length I've chosen looks fine but when I start quilting my actual piece the stitch length goes really small. This happens with a regular foot and a walking foot. It's just strange. I did finally get a stitch to have a longer length that I liked. I finished marking and pinning the last two quilt panels and hope to get them quilted tomorrow morning. I was also able to make the outer border for the red, white and blue quilt and get them put onto the quilt. I'm happy with how this quilt top looks but it's very large. I'm going to put my design wall up tomorrow and try to get a picture of it if I can. I think this is going to be the widest quilt I've ever made and up there with one of the longest. Take care

CJ, I'm glad your fabric arrived and that you ordered some just for yourself as you mentioned. Will they be for a special quilt of do you have other plans for it. I'm sorry to hear that your weather is going to be cooler. I like the idea of 70's.I'm also glad that you were able to machine quilt those panels. You're definitely making progress in getting those all done.
Ginny, I'm sorry that your cold or whatever it is is worse and giving you even more problems with your sleep. Urgent care sounds like a good idea although if it's a virus there's not too much they can do but maybe they can give you a prescription for Tamiflu.Thank you for the reminder about blocking people in email. I've blocked so many that I have a huge list but I seem to have temporarily forgotten about doing that.
It was much warmer here today but windy so I couldn't go outside and do the things I wnted to do out there because of the blowing snow. I stayed inside instead and did some cooking and vacuuming. I also did some searching for a notebook that I have crochet patterns in that I printed out a few years ago when I actually had a functioning printer. There's a baby bonnet pattern in there that I want to make and I did find the notebook so I was happy and will work on the bonnet this evening. The bad thing about this bonnet is there's a lot of sewing involved.

Ruth - I'm glad you found the book with the patterns Also, I'm happy to hear it's a bit warmer there. I was able to get a picture of the 4 Patch quilt, so I thought I'd share a picture of that along with a close up of the border fabric. This quilt top is 73x86 inches. I'm also showing pictures of the 4 Holiday Hoopla blocks done so far and this week's Sweet Childhood Memories block, which was a bear paw.

Good morning!!
CJ- I love paisley fabrics. This is so pretty- the colors are nice and it will work beautifully with the quilt. Oh have fun quilting that pretty and large quilt. I do not remember how large my falling charms quilt is, but it is pretty big, and it was interesting to quilt on a home machine. You have probably already marked the quilt for quilting but would you ever consider hand tying that quilt? With the emphasis of squares and intersections on that quilt, hand tying would be a sweet way to finish it. And I love the bear paw pattern…it’s on my mental list of quilts to make someday.
Ruth, so very glad you located that notebook that contained the baby hat pattern! Any idea what color yarn you will use to make that hat? Good to hear that your weather has warmed up, and that you were able to get some vacuuming done. Did you ever decide to make a sleep sack for a baby? I know we had discussed that about a week ago. I know my Dd used one for DGS#3- and she felt it was really helpful encouraging him to sleep.
I did not do much yesterday. Took a nap ….did some reading and embroidery. Really rested, but it was what I needed.I am far from 100 % today but am doing better. Think I will do to the store for a small list of items, and then just stay home. Looks like Monday into Tuesday my area is supposed to get snow, enough to close schools early Monday and a total closure on Tuesday. That would be wonderful. After a week off I am not looking forward to going back to a very full and busy week.

CJ, I love the 4 blocks squares quilt and it is large. Are you planning to quilt this one or have it quilted. Ginny's idea for tying sounds really good to me. That would give it a rustic look. All the quilt tops you've shown us are all so pretty. I hope you're having good weather today and also a good one in general
Ginny, I'm glad to hear that you got a day to rest. I hope they end up cancelling school for both Mon and Tues so that you can rest even more and get over this illness. Did you make the cocoon that you mentioned your daughter used? My ddil had one from when they were in Germany when ds was stationed there. It was larger than newborn size and dgd slept in it when we were there visiting them when she was a year old. I doubt she still has it so I'm thinking seriously of making one. The one I mentioned was sewn not knitted or crocheted. I really haven't liked very much the ones I've seen on youtube or online.I may make up my own stitch and pattern. I did work on the bonnet last night because Isaw a hat tutoria that I wanted to try. I got the increase part done and it turned out too large. The designer said that it's crucial that you have 72 stitches so I couldn't just leave off a row to meet size so I did try it with a smaller hook but now I've looked back at the hat and it's just not as nice as I thought so I'll just add that to my UFO's.
I'm sure tired of winter and it's supposed to snow again. I don't know where the plowing people are going to put the snow next time they plow but I sure am angry about them piling so much on my property. The neighbor has been out of town the whole winter so I have no idea why they don't put the snow on that property. It wouldn't be in anyone's way there. I'm going to write a letter to the pres of the HOA and let him know my opinion of this company. I don't know why we've had them plow our roads for all these years. They must be related to some people that are more influential than me (which wouldn't be hard since I have no influence at all in these matters)

I just found out that my neice lives in Hollister, Calif where they had severe flooding about a week or so ago and gigantic hail. Their house in on a hill so they didn't get flooded but now they're supposed to get more weird and severe weather.I knew she lived in Calif but didn't know where

Ruth, I hope that your niece is safe and somehow out of harms way in the storm and strange weather. Let us know if you get any details regarding her safety. Indeed that stinks that they are piling up snow on your property!! I wonder if you put up a few signs or two asking for no snow mountains (which is what they end up looking like) if that would accomplish anything. Again, and you are so right, if you are paying for this “service” then you should get a service from the plowing company, not a greater headache. If your phone or tablet takes pictures, perhaps some pictures to send with an email might help plead your case.
I did find the pattern for the “striped baby bunting”- and I will get a picture of it and post it here. Its from an old Caron yarn book that I have had for a long time- I have made other projects from this series of booklets and had good luck with them if the picture does not turn out well and the directions are unreadable I would be happy to photocopy them and either email or snail mail to you. The bunting that Dd used she bought. DGS #3 was a horrible sleeper and they tried multiple different things to help him sleep. Somehow, putting him in a sleep sack (or bunting) helped signal to the little fellow that it was time for a nap.
Looks like from what I am seeing that school will be a normal day tomorrow, but we are in for heavy snow Monday night.into Tuesday. Oh my a snow day on Tuesday would be SO welcome. South of me it looks like a rain event. I did have a pretty normal day, even got a short walk in, although I am tired. Ds came home feeling sick- he said many coworkers are not feeling well with this same cole and I know Ds has mentioned that he has not been 100% for a day or so. His normal days off this week are tomorrow and Tuesday. Thank you Lord that he has those days off anyway to rest up and get rid of the cold but also will not have to drive to work in the snow.
CJ, I hope you had a good day of quilting and perhaps playing with your new fabric.
See ya tomorrow!
