Last day of break for me, which I hope to enjoy or at least not run around like a nut too much. I have one errand to take care of this morning but that should go quickly. Got a morning of cleaning to take care of, with a house full of people yesterday I do need to mop the kitchen floor and vacuum. The house if not awful and I did intentionally not vacuum or wash the floor before company. My grandkids sure can be messy, but I think that is little or not so little kids. I have 4 of them over in 2 weeks for an overnight, and have to seriously look at what they can get into (and what they should not be into). It was a bit disappointing yesterday that one of the kids got into a closet that I prefer stay closed, and actually installed a hook and an eye on so they would not get into. (Not that there is anything bad in that closet, it’s a mixed storage area but because of that I do not want kids just taking stuff out. I will figure something out to keep them out of that closet.
Today is my hot water tank replacement. Have not gotten the text yet that the plumber is enroute, but I can imagine the first stop will be to pick up the new hot water heater. I do have laundry going and a load in the dishwasher running both of which should be done by a little after 9 when he is due to arrive. I am washing the HL fabric to pre shrink it. Never had trouble with HL fabric before, but I think preshrinking the fabric (which I do not usually do) is a good idea. I am looking forward to getting back to working on that quilt.
Happy Monday- hope everyone has a great day G

Hello - Hope you are doing well today and having good weather. It's pretty and sunny here today and I think the week is supposed to be dry. Ginny - I hope everything goes well with the hot water tank replacement. Hope you enjoyed the holiday with family yesterday. You are brave having four of the grandkids for an overnight Ruth - Hope you enjoyed the day yesterday and you are working on some interesting projects. I made the other basket block this morning and I've decided to keep doing the ones in blue fabrics and the ones in yellow/pink/green fabric. I think I'll stop the red/white ones. I really do enjoy making these patterns since they are a bit different than the normal kind I work on. I also started a new project - which was a complete surprise to me I looked at all that fabric I had pulled for the planter/pots quilt and decided to pull 3 fabrics - the print with the flowers, hummingbirds and words and two coordinating fabrics and I'm going to make a Walk About quilt with those. I already cut all the pieces so I just have to make the half square triangles - 48 of them. They are large - 5.5 inches, so much easier to deal with this. This quilt will finish at 50x50 but I may put some borders on it. I've made this pattern before and it goes together really quickly. grizzlygulchgallery.com/shop/walk-about-irresistible-iris/I did receive the thread I ordered from JoAnns last week, but the rotary blades are still out there floating around with no estimated delivery date. The last location of them was in the northern part of the state. I'll remember that JoAnns ships from different locations within the same order and only order one thing at a time from them in the future. It was nice to get the thread without going in the store and not finding it there. I used 1000 yards of thread in the last two months - I was surprised how much I used! Take care and have a good day!

Ginny, I hope the water heater installation went well. I agree with CJ, you are brave to have 4 grandchildren overnight. I remember the days when I did that. I hope you were able to rest and get in some crafting
CJ, that is a pretty quilt. I think it's going to be really nice with your fabrics.
Today we made a trip to Walmart and Home Depot. Walmart was very busy. Home Depot didn't have what we needed so will try a different home improvement store sometime.
I found that I had a nice Mandala yarn in my little stash so used that to make ds a hat. I hope it fits. Now I'm going to work on the blanket I started a couple days ago which is a different one than I had decided on. I saw a new youtube video and loved that pattern so ripped out the couple rows I had done on the other one and started over.
Have a great night and get a good rest

Hello It's a sunny day here, with temps already in the 70s. Hope your weather is nice too Ruth - I'm glad you found some yarn in your stash to you for your DS's hat, I hope he'll like it. Isn't YouTube wonderful? It's so great to watch those tutorial for projects. Ginny - Hope everything is going well with you and your new water heater is working well. I went out this morning to run a bunch of errands and also do grocery shopping, so no crafting for me today. It's been working out going grocery shopping every other week, so I hope I can continue doing that. Take care and have a good day

Babysitting- but am almost done with that….
CJ- order rotary blades from Walmart. I did about 3 weeks ago, got them for a decent price and I had them in my hands in 3 days.
Hot water heater is in and working well. Glad that is over with.
Ruth, glad you found some mandala yarn in your stash for Ds’s hat. That is a shame that Home Depot was out of what you were looking for.

CJ, I'm glad it's working out for you doing your shopping every other week. I know how much you dislike going out and don't blame you one bit. p Ginny, I'm so glad your water heater went in without any problem and is working well.
It was a pretty quiet day today. I did make a crockpot full of split pea soup and cooked some sweet potatoes in the instant pot which is not really an actual Instant pot but a Crockpot brand electric pressure cooker. The ham we got last week is being used in several different ways. I also got in crochet time and will be doing it again after I get this sent.
Have a great night everyone
Oh and I meant to mention that last week in Casper there was 3 feet of snow and today it got up to 72 but is to snow next week. Weather is crazy.

Well with warmer temps headed in my area (high 70’s!) I am actually mourning the loss of winter. Ruth, sounds like you did some awesome cooking today and are making good use of the delicious ham you bought last week.
CJ- yes after a previous experience, I can really understand why you are enjoying shopping every other week. Then you can pick your battles…go when you want because you plan to restock.its very liberating.
Will BBL…..god a sewing dilemma (a repair job for Dd…) not sure how I will handle it.

Ginny, I'm sorry that the weather is hard on you. I do love it warmer myself but also feel bad for you in not being able to sleep and in general, being uncomfortable in the warmer weather.
CJ, well since you went out yesterday I imagine you're hard at work making blocks.
Nice and warm here today. I did some cleaning and worked on a crochet scrubby. I hate scrubby yarn and don't find scrubbies to be particularly helpful but I'm going to give them a try again. I have a couple pans I don't like to use Brillo pads on. They're supposed to be non stick but that's definitely not working with my pans.
See you all later

Non stick pans. What a misnomer. Over the years I have bought a bunch of “non stick pans”- somewhat pricey brands (No I never spent even close to $100 on a non stick pan). I have bought them online, from the supermarket, from department stores (discounted) and at Walmart. Most of them I have been ready to toss in the trash (because they are shedding their non stick coating) in about a year. Does not matter if I am careful with them- wash by hand etc…I never use metal on them. Gotta say that the one non stick pan that has lasted the longest is the one Ds still uses- a ninja food never stick. Got it on sale at Kohls.com and it seems to be holding up well enough. Ruth, have you tried using the sponges with a plastic scrub side to them? They should not bother the non stick pans
Funny that the term “nice and warm” was actually on the news the other day. Someone criticized the weather person for using that phrase, “nice and warm”. I know many who like warmer weather, but for me I am already mourning the loss of fuzzy sweaters and fleece for short sleeves. Bout time someone noticed that not everyone loves hot weather. Today made it into the low 80’s and that will be the day time high for the next 3 days. Each person has their “perfect” weather- that is for sure!!!
Ruth, I know you cook a lot- have you ever tried making your own sourdough bread? I know you are gluten free. My Dd#1 started making her own sourdough bread (making her own starter also). Its a bit of on involved process, time consuming in that it takes a few weeks for the natural yeast to grow to a starter, and then a bit of work to maintain the starter. What she did tell me was that it’s gluten free. Just checked online and it’s not 100% true, but what is true is that sourdough bread is significantly lower in gluten- the process of making a sourdough bread breaks down a significant amount of gluten. DD’s bread has turned out great, and I was wondering if you ever attempted it.
Yes when outside with DGS today I stayed in the shade and was happy when we went inside for him to have a snack. It was nice to get out of the heat.
So my sewing dilemma is this. DGS #1 has a hammock that the canvass tore- all the way across and sort of in the middle. DD has purchased more canvass and a quality thread. Her original intent was for me to wholesale replace the torn canvass. I wonder….(and would love to hear your ideas!!) if I can first off seam the original canvass and then cover the entire fabric with a second layer of the new canvass. Wonder if that would make it stronger? Or am I nuts?
CJ- what are you working on today? Hope you are staying comfortable. Think the nights are cooler, which does help keep our homes from getting too warm.
Guess I have blabbed a lot.

I've never tried a Ninja pan and, in fact, have never heard of them. I might have to check Kohl's online periodically and see if they have a sale. I don't remember the brand of pans that ds and ddil have but it's a high end (and expensive) brand and even in that the non stick is not at all nonstick.
I've never tried sourdough bread. I've tried some other starters that you had to "feed" every day or whatever. I think one was called friendship or something like that. I soon gave up on it because we didn't eat that much of anything that was made with it. We don't eat much in the way of bread either. Dh eats most of the bread that's eaten in our house except when I make my pumpernickle bread then I do eat that. My ddil makes sourdough and we recently had English muffins she (or one of the children) made with it. I one time went to visit a friend and she made sourdough pancakes. One of the starter things I did try once was called brandied fruit. There was no brandy in it and, again, we didn't use much of it so quit feeding it.
To your question about repairing the hammock I have to say that I have no idea.I'd love to help but I really don't know how you would go about it but I'm sure you'll figure it out. I think you are good at doing that type of thing. I don't think my poor machine would ever be able to sew on canvas. One thing I'd do would be to make two lines of stitches at each end rather than just one.Maybe at the sides too.

Hello Hope you are all having nice weather. It's in the high 80s and sunny here, the same as yesterday. Hopefully some cooler weather is coming this weekend. Ginny - Sorry I can't help with your question, I've never sewn thick material like that. Hope you can figure it out. Ruth - Hope you were able to finish the scrubbies and that you've been enjoying the food you've cooked. Phyl - Sorry to hear about your health issues, hope the doctors can help you. Yesterday I made the lastest block from Pat Sloan's weekly quilt along and this morning I finished making the blocks for the Walk About quilt. The blocks took a bit more work because I used a directional fabric and I really wanted the fabric to all go in the same direction, but I got them done. I hope to put the quilt top together in the next few days. Take care!

Wonderful news…tomorrow is Friday!!
CJ- sounds like you are spending some quality time with your machine. Congrats on getting the blocks for the walk about quilt done. They sure are neat designs, unique quilts. It must have been a bit of a challenge getting the fabric to all go in the direction you wanted. Hats off to you with regard to that. Many times I walk away from directional fabrics just because I do not want to deal with that problem.
Ruth, in my research they did say that rye four (pumpernickel bread) has a naturally lower gluten content. Glad you like that and that it does not upset your system much. The friendship starter sounds like a sourdough type starter. Have you gotten any crocheting in today?
Phyl- good to hear from you - but I am sorry that you have a new medical condition to deal with and learn how to live with. I pray that you get good answers regarding your health and that treatment is easy to deal with and successful. Hope you are feeling better also!! Thanks for the great advice regarding getting the hammock repaired. Unfortunately Dd already bought the canvas- and I have it here. Think I will attempt the repair myself and pray a lot. Good to hear you are getting some quilting time in.
Too hot for my taste. Allergies are acting up a bit and I do not sleep well in this weather, Think tonight I will sleep downstairs where it is cooler.

CJ, directional fabric is definitely a challenge. I've never used it in quilt blocks so can't speak from personal experience but I've heard a lot about working with it.
Ginny, I think that if it's cooler downstairs then it's a great idea to sleep down there when the weather is this hot. Can you sleep with a fan going? I never thought I could but since dh can't sleep in the summer without one because of his breathing problems.
Phyl, sorry you have additional medical issues.
I did get in some crocheting and plan to do even more tonight. I know you'll think I'm crazy but I started a new blanket. I like the one I've been working on but don't care for the yarn I'm making it with. It's Bernat brand I think and is called Bundle up but I have it only in a color called marshmallow which you would think would be white and a green that's an odd shade. You couldn't tell from the online pictures. The green is softer than the marshmallow and the marshmallow looks more like you're crocheting with some kind of twine. They are actually working ok together but I'm trying to make baby blankets and this is not doing that. It will be a good blanket for older kids or adults. So now I'm using RHSS in a nice pink left over from a blanket I made for second youngest dgd and white using the griddle stitch and it's coming out pretty and is pretty fast to make. I'm only making in in a larger car seat size for now but might end up putting on a large border.
