A long day for me, but a pretty good one.
Ruth, hope that the doctor got your test results to you and that they were good. I think the transvaginal sono is routine now for some exams, it does give them a more complete picture. Hope you are more comfortable also.
CJ- how was the quilt show? And yes, those Amish markets have LOTS of good stuff....congrats on behaving yourself.
Phyl- did you make it all the way through those quilting mags?
Meg, Devins class performance must have made you proud- glad you got to see it! How was knit wits?
THink the move is going well- I have been busy with the grandkids and have not gotten to the house. THe kids have been very good for me.
THis tired woman is going to bed. Night! Ginny

Ginny, I'm glad to hear that it was a good day although long. I'm glad the move is going well. Get some rest.
Never did hear from the doctor. She has a broken ankle that she broke back in Jan and it hasn't healed yet. She goes to PT so she may have left work early to go to that.If the results had shown anything serious she would have been more persistent in calling.
I didn't find my yarn yet that I was going to use for dd's projects. I'm working on the blanket I started. It's made with the yarn Meg told us about..the lion pound of love in that tangerine color and I'm going to make sections of white too. I wish they had gray in pound of love because I think it would go good with the tangerine and white. The stitch is called the Cabbage Patch stitch. I think the pattern designer made it up. It's basically a row of what I would consider shells but of four double crochets then the next row you do dc crossed stitches. I haven't gotten far but it's a very nice stitch. I can see myself making a lot of "blankies" with this stitch.
Just got up from a nap. It's 9:30 so you would think I'd be staying up late but I imagine I'll still be in bed at my usual time.
Get a good rest everyone
Meg, I hope knit wits was fun and I'm sure seeing Devin in his program was great.
CJ, I hope the quilt show was fun and relaxing and you found some good things to buy

I did go to Knit Wits this afternoon. I really did not get much done but it was nice to sit and chat. So far this evening I haven't worked on anything.
Ruth, I hope that you and your Dr. can get together and discuss your test results. That's a good idea for your DH to make a desk chair. I hope he does a good job.
Phyl, poor wee rabbit. I hope his paw heals and that he can find his way home. That book was a lot of reading. I hope it was a good book.
It was hot today and I feel sticky so I will have a shower before I go to bed. It is supposed to be a bit cooler this weekend.
Have a good night and sleep well.

Good afternoon!
Meg, SO glad you got to knit wits- and in my book it's A OK that you did not get much done. getting out to spend time with friends is a wonderful thing also.Being that you do so much for your family, some "Meg time" is a blessing and helps you recharge your batteries, both emotionally and physically. You get plenty of knitting done while listening to your books.
Ruth, agreed, that the doctor most likely would have been persistent in calling you if there was anything serious to report. Do you have a follow up appointment? Your cabbage patch stitch afghan sounds so pretty. Is there perhaps another yarn that is comparable with the pound of love? I have searched online for mixing yarns- and found some decent advice on how to do so. It would, of course be dependent on the particular yarn.
Phyl and CJ- hope that each of you is enjoying your Saturday and I look forward to when you get a chance to check in to say hello.
Well....I did not sleep enough last night- but slept soundly for the 6 hours I did get. Dd and Dh are over working on the "new" house, and I am home with the grandkids. THey all slept over here last night, and I figure they will be here tonight also. Not sure though. I believe on the present timetable of sorts, they will not be sleeping there for a few more nights. The house needs a lot of work, some of that is getting done now. I am in shock now as both kids are sleeping....so I am getting a bit of a break.
Doubt that much crafting will take place this weekend, Right now I am outside trying to enjoy the lovely breeze while the kids sleep. Ginny

Hello Crafters – Hope you are doing well today. It was so busy yesterday I couldn’t make it here to post.
Meg – I’m happy for you that you were able to go see Devin’s program, I bet those kids were cute. I’ve heard of patterns using the granny stitch in rows, that seems like it would be easy, is it?
Phyl – Wow, a 1000 pages, did you enjoy the books? Some time back I went through all my magazines that I’d had for about 10 years and tore out the patterns I really liked. I then put them in plastic sleeves and stored them in 3 ring binders. When I’m looking for a pattern, I like to go through them and find one to use. I try not to buy so many magazines anymore. Ruth – I hope the test results are good too. Your new blanket project sounds nice. Tangerine and White sounds pretty, and the gray would look nice with it.
I think it was you that mentioned the Red Rose tea. I bought some after you did and I’ve been enjoying it. It’s a smooth tea like the Tetley Green and Black is. Sometimes Lipton tea is “rough” tasting to me. I do like it for iced tea though. Ginny – I’m glad the move is going well for your DD, she’s fortunate to have you to watch the grandkids. I’m sure it’s keeping you on your toes to keep them busy. Hope the weather is nice so they can go outside.
I had a nice time at the Quilt Show yesterday. I found lots of the needles and thread I was looking for and a few notions too. I did not buy a lot of fabric - just a few yard pieces and a piece of 115 inch wide backing (it was 3 yards for a good price). I also bought a few embroidery patterns and some pre-cut strips of fabrics in 1930s colors. I'm not sure what I'll do with them, I have a few quilt patterns in mind.
The quilts on display were beautiful and there were a lot of very large ones. I'd say there were over 200 quilts on display. Only about 20 of them had hand quilting though. Since my sister-in-law and I have been learning machine quilting, we tended to focus on looking at that on the quilts. I saw lots of interesting quilting that I hope I can try some day.
I'm not doing any quilting today, but tomorrow I have to pick out what tops I'm going to take with me on Monday when I have my first appointment scheduled to longarm quilt some of my own tops. I'm hoping to get at least 2-3 of them done. I'm not taking any of my really large ones, or the special ones, with me. I'll just take some that I was playing around with fabric or a pattern with. Once I feel confident, then I can't wait to quilt some of the tops that mean something to me.
Take care everyone!

CJ, Yes here we have mostly Lipton and Tetley in the stores. I like Red Rose better than either of those. It does seem smoother to me. Back in NY I used to buy Salada too. I don't know if they even have that anymore. I haven't had that in many, many years...almost 30. Seems like I remember it to be good too.
Now when you do those quilt tops on the longarm, am i correct in thinking that you have a top, batting, and a backing and you quilt all the layers together? Then do you go home and put on a border?
I haven't worked on the blanket yet today. I'll start soon though
Have a great day everyone

Good evening! Ruth and CJ can I join the club? I don't like Lipton tea either. I also find it strong and bitter.Yes they still make salada and red rose is good tea in my book also. I also like Tetley. Lipton is definitely not my favorite and I will avoid it when I can.
CJ so glad that you had a good time and that you really starting to look at quotes differently now looking at them for how they are constructed. I know I did not do that a few years ago and it something I just started doing too. So nice that you have your sister-in-law to share that with. And I'm sure you'll figure out something to do with that fabric!
Ruth; you were absolutely right the quilt top the batting the backing or quilted together first weather by hand or using a long armor or a regular machine. And then when that is done the binding is added. There's also one method of "construction that involves making like a big pillow case and you put the binding on then close up the pillow case and you're done. But that's not considered the best way to do it.
Hope everyone is having a good day!
Ginny

Ginny, yes, welcome to the "Lipton is definitely not my favorite tea" club
Thanks for explaining the quilting. I've seen that pillow case method mentioned and it is temptimg because then you don't have to do the mitered corners and all.
PHyl, congrats to Sophie on finding the apartment.I don't know much about Corgis but I do like BettyJ's dog Ozzie. The pic she shows is very cute. However no pets for me...too much work and when you want to go somewhere you have to find someone to take care of them or board and it is just too expensive. It's not worth it to me. I'll play with other people's dogs and cats. I Have several grandogs and grandcats
Oh and Phyl, I did cut out patterns from magazines years ago. I still have them and never made them so I doubt that Im going to be making them now. I should just toss them. I did toss some a couple years ago but I don't think I got rid of them all

Good Mornng!
Phyl, great news that Sophie found an apartment! Will she be living far from where you are now? I used to think I would subscribe to some magazine (topic of which changed depending upon my whim- its gone from crocheting to quilting...) and then my DSIL moved and left me with all her magazines. That makes more work to go through them, as you are now stuck with. I do cut out or copy some instructions but now only permit a small amount of them....sort of the best of the best. And as far as finding other patterns, there is so much on the internet. That it makes finding patterns easier. Good for you.....3 quilt shops and you did not have to rob the bank to pay for purchases!
Ruth, if I ever get off my butt and send you the Irish chain instructions, that set of directions calls for a modified pillow case method. We have several cats.....and yes its a headache figuring out who will take care of them when we go away.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today
Phyl - That puppy sounds cute. I always think of Queen Elizabeth II when I see corgis. I'm glad Sophie found an apartment. Good for you not buying alot at the quilt shops. I know there isn't much I need anymore, so when I buy things sometimes I'm just wasting money. I do like to get at least one thing if I go into a local quilt shop, to help keep them in business.
Ruth - You're correct, I'll be taking quilt tops, batting and backing fabric with me tomorrow. Hope you get some time to work on your blanket today. Ginny - Hope you have some time to work on your embroidery today - it's Slow Stitching Sunday
Meg - Hope you are getting in some crafting too.
I picked out 3 quilt tops to take with me tomorrow and pressed them along with backing fabric for two of them. The largest one I'm taking with me (50x63 inches) I'm taking some wide backing fabric with me, so I put it in the dryer to try to relax it. I'm planning to buy the batting on the roll at the shop tomorrow, since I think that will be easier to roll on the longarm. I'm taking a package of batting with me just in case I need it.
My sister-in-law might stop by and if she does I told her she is welcome to quilt the smallest top I'm taking (24x27 inches) so she can get some practice.
It should be interesting tomorrow. I know the shop owner will help me if I need it, I just get a little intimaded using someone else's machinery.
Take care everyone!

Ginny, no hurry on the quilt instructions. I hope you got rested up from babysitting duties and got in time to do other things you enjoy
CJ, It's great that your sil will stop in. Nothing like having someone to share new experiences. When I went for the quilting lessons about 10 years ago my sewing machine broke so I had to go without mine one week. The owner of the shop insisted that I used one of theirs. I was really leary of using it. It was a great machine and I loved using it but the fact that it wasn't mine and was a very expense machine really weighed on my mind while using it.
