Ruth, you posted last night after my last check in. that is great news that you are approaching the finish line on the pink afghan. Hope you make your Wednesday deadline so you can move onto other projects.
Slept pretty well last night, guess I woke up a lot but thankfully was able to get back to sleep without much difficulty. Probably will not be able to get to work on the quilt today- but who knows
CJ- hope you slept well last night and are ready to face a new week.
See ya later G

quiet board today. Happy May Day everyone.
Ginny, I'm glad you were able to get back to sleep fairly easily after waking so many times in the night. I hope you had a good day today also
CJ, It sounds like you're going to have a busy week with all the monthly blocks coming out. It's a good thing you like doing them. It would be awfull to have it be something you were obligated to do and disliked doing it.
I might be able to finish this blanket tonight. I have all the body of it done and now just have to weave in quite a lot of ends then the border.I'm not sure how I'll do the border after I get the row of sc's on that I always put on.I'll decide as I'm going it I guess.
see you all tomorrow

Mondays are always a challenge for me and I had a dentist appointment to make it a bit more complicated. They are still backed up, which the office figures is a remnant of covid when people stopped going for routine dental health.
Ruth, were you able to finish the afghan and get a border figured out for it? Weaving in ends….not my favorite job but I know you will do an awesome job and that it’s a beautiful afghan.
CJ- hope you had a great Monday- start to the week. G

Hello We've had a few cloudy days here and cool weather. Hope your weather has been alright Ginny - Hope this week won't be too busy for you and you can get to your quilt Ruth - Hope you were able to get your blanket finished I've been working on my blocks for the Sunny Days quilt along and was able to get them all made this morning, but I still need to trim them. When I did the first trim (it's takes two for this quilt) my blocks were a bit small. They are supposed to be 12x12, but I can only get mine to 11.5x11.5 inches. I'm just going to have to work with that and maybe I can trim the 7 blocks we'll be making just a half inch shorter so they will fit in the quilt top. Worst case scenario I can just use all the blocks that are too small and make a quilt top and forget about adding the other blocks. I'm sure part of the problem was my piecing skills (which aren't great) and using a jelly roll where the strips weren't really a full 2.5 inches wide. That's why when I use precuts I try to stick to patterns where you don't have to have exact piecing to make them work. I probably won't start on any of the monthly blocks until I get all these blocks trimmed and then tomorrow is the last Pat Sloan weekly block for her current quilt along, so I'd like to finish piecing that top too. Hope you all get to do some crafting today. Take care

I hope that you both will get accomplished whatever it is that you want to accomplish. Ginny, I know that Mondays are very busy for you with things even going on in the evening.
CJ I have no doubt at all that you will be able to do something great with those blocks despite the fact that they do not measure the same as the pattern calls for. I think that for all of us we've taken patterns for various crafts and revised them some and quilters seem to be better at that than those that do other crafts are. I always thought that quilting was mainly following your instincts and creativity and you and Ginny are proof of that.
I didn't get the blanket done yesterday after all because I guess I just got tired of working on it then so today I'll finish it. We went to the grocery store earlier and came back and did some usual cleaning so now I'm about to go to crocheting.
CJ it sounds llike you've been having the same weather as me. It's nice and sunny finally today but stilll really cool

Hey CJ and Ruth! I will take the slightly cooler temps- and absolutely do not mind one bit putting on an extra sweater, which feels so snug and cozy
Ruth, lots of times i get tired of working on a project- and know you will finish the afghan soon enough. Do you have a far drive to get to the grocery store? Bet you are happy to have that errand over with. It’s just no fun…and is sure a pain in the neck putting everything away.
CJ- my BOM instructions from the quilt shop emphasized that the blocks had to be a strict 12 inch square. I was mortified when 2 or 3 of mine were a bit under sized as you described some of yours were. Somehow, I did not have to adjust a thing- the quilt went together just fine and the issue with setting the blocks on a diagonal was not an issue. (I admit i was mortified). So honestly I feel pretty confident that your Sunny Days quilt along will work out just fine. Sounds like you have a good game plan if you need to adjust. Think it’s a great idea to get the blocks trimmed..and then move onto the Pat Sloan weekly quilt. The block of the months can wait till you finish the more timely quilt tops.
Hmmmm…I am done with babysitting for the week. (I need a break, yay!). No crafting today but I do hope that tomorrow I will be able to get some quilting time in. I almost forgot I did not get to quilt the fabric cafe quilt- with all the quilting I have ahead, I am considering sending it to Missouri to have them quilt it. It’s a small quilt and would not cost that much to do. Of course I could also so my swirls or stipple….which would work well with that quilt design and fabrics.
See you in the morning. G

Ginny, you would have loved it here today. It was perfect sweater weather. And yes, every year when it's toward the end of a hot summer I think of how nice and cozy sweaters are but in the frigid winter I long for warm days
I didn't get the blanet done yet because someone posted a picture of a wind spinner with a red bird on it one Facebook and dh saw it and asked me to make one. He wants to put it out for the cardinal that hurls himself at our windows everyday. Dh wants to see the live bird reaction the the fake one.

Oh that poor silly cardinal! Are you feeding the birds this year, Ruth? I do remember last spring you mentioned that you wanted to feed them. I do feel bad for birds who fly into windows. One of my bird feeders is suction cupped to the window- put there to provide entertainment for my cats. The birds usually do not fly into the window to eat, but my cat throws himself at the window trying to catch the birds. You will finish the afghan in due time..Let us know how the cardinal reacts to the wind spinner!!

For some reason I cannot post using the iPad. I have literally 2 minutes finishing the swirls on the afghan and then need to decide what to do on the blue border. Perhaps more swirls- but using a navy thread in the needle.

The cardinal was there right before I hung the crochet one up but I haven't seen him back. A hummingbird, though, seemed to think the red indicated a feeder so he investigated a lot then sat of a branch for awhile waiting, I guess, to see if it would become a feeder. He finally left and hasn't been back. Early bird dh will be awake early tomorrow when the real cardinal does his hitting the window so he'll be able to see if the real one does anything to the fake bird.
Ginny, Doing the border quilting in navy sounds like a great idea.
crafting for me today so far was finishing the cardinal and another row around the blanket for edging.Just sc for now and I'll work on it some more tonight.
CJ, hope all is well with you

Funny story about the cardinal and the hummingbird….I know hummers are attracted to bright colors. Looking forward to Dh’s report regarding how the cardinal responds.
Tried playing with the blue thread in my machine….problem is no matter how I adjust the tension, the machine is pulling bobbin thread to the top a bit and I want to keep the pale green in the bobbin (to match the back color). My original idea was not to quilt the border at all…and I might end up doing just that, leaving the border unquilted.
Hope CJ is doing well G

Good morning all. It's a nice sunny day and 62 degrees so not bad. I haven't had a report on the cardinal's reaction to his crochet partner yet as dh is still sleeping since he only went to bed a couple hours ago but the cardinal is still perced on the branches of the bush where I put him so I know the real bird didn't attack him. The crochet one came out a little larger than the real life size of cardinals so maybe the live bird was intimidated by that.
I worked on my blanket last night but didn't finish it because I decided to add more border rows. It will be done soon though.
Ginny, my problems with sewing machines has always been with the tension. It does sound to me that leaving the borders unquilted migh be a good idea.
Have a great day everyone

Hello Ginny - Sorry to hear you were having those thread problems, hope you can figure out what you want to do with the border. Ruth - I'll be interested to hear what happens with the cardinal. It's a bit milder here today and partly sunny, so pretty nice weather. Hope your weather is nice too. I've been doing "house and other things" so I haven't been able to get to any quilting the last few days. Hopefully I'll get back to it this weekend. Take care

CJ-we all get to those times where house and other things need to get done….hope that yours is all done so you can return to the important things. Quilting. Ha haha
Ruth, hope you had a good day and that you are able to complete that afghan soon. Obviously the border is pretty. And that is why you are adding more of it!!
Nutty busy today and guess what, tomorrow is worse. But it’s joyfully busy….all ok stuff and I am glad to get this out of my way. Dd and DGS were over for dinner, poor little DGS is coming down with something and had a low fever. Think he doing to the doctor tomorrow. I have to trim the baby quilt and then move onto the binding. I just do not want to put the time into messing around with the border and thread tension, so I will finish the quilt and move on to the next project. I hope to get back to work on it Saturday morning- can trim it while I am watching the coronation.
