Hello - Hope everyone is doing well today and having some nice weather It's sunny and in the 70s here. I worked on the jelly roll quilt yesterday and have all the strips sewn together. Now I need to make 8 sawtooth star blocks and also cut the strip set into two pieces. I'm hoping to get that done this week. Hope you get to do some crafting this week too and that you have a good day!

Good afternoon all. Ginny, I hope you had a good Mother's day yesterday.
CJ, I'm always amazed at how much you accomplish. Now the saw tooth stars sound interesting and I bet they're harder to do than sewing strips together but I have no double at all that you'll have them done this week.
I didn't get here yesterday. Was doing a little more straightening up before company came. We had a nice visit while they were here.I did get some crocheting in before they got here and after they left. was laundry and the usuals and now I'm back to crocheting.
Ginny, that's really great that you're attending a quilt class with your dgd. That will be special to both of you. Is it just one class or a series of classes? Does she get to make something in the class that's a completed project at the end of the day?
It's great weather here today too. Not too hot. After yesterday I'm beginning to feel about very hot weather as you two do. I do like temps in the low 70's best and to say something good about higher temps, I do like them better than winter cold. Summer highs don't create things like huge drifts to try to get through or frozen pipes and cars not starting.

Mondays are usually quiet here…with a full day of babysitting I got no crafting done. I did just plant my green beans, and in a day or so get my pumpkin and squash seeds in. With no rain in the forecast, I will have to water.

Sawtooth star blocks work up without too much abuse and are so super pretty. Glad you are making good progress CJ making good progress on the jelly roll quilt
Ruth, hope you enjoyed your company, which usually does create a mess to clean up and laundry to do.
Gotta call the quilt shop and ask about getting DGD into that class. It lasts 3 days, I would do all the cutting and ironing and DGD would do the sewing on one of their machines. Keeping my fingers crossed that I can get her in!

Hello Ruth - I'm glad you enjoyed your company and the weather was nice. Ginny - I hope that you do get to take the class with our DGD, that sounds like it would be so fun. It started out sunny here today, but now it's cloudy with some possible rain later. I finished making the sawtooth star blocks today and have all the other cutting done so now I'm ready to start putting the parts of this quilt top together. I hope to get it done soon. I have another jelly roll that I saw a project that I might use it for. I don't know why I've been hung up on jelly rolls for the last few months They do make some projects easier though. Hope you get to do some crafting today. Take care

Ginny, I thought that you had already signed her up. I hope you can. It will be a great opportunity so do something with her that you'll both enjoy
CJ, I'm glad you were able to get those blocks done. From what I see, the jellyrolls would be a great convenience.
Tomorrow, Lord willing, we will go to Walmart and I can get the pink yarn to finish my blanket.I have some ends to weave in on the other blanket that I finished a couple days ago and I actually started another blanket. I'm not going to get all of my works in progress done by the 31st but hope to get that pink one done though and this current one but mostly the pink.

CJ- jelly rolls are a neat way to incorporate a whole fabric line easily with minimal cutting. Some of the work is taken out. It’s great that you are enjoying using them and it sure does permit making some quilts easier. Are the sawtooth star blocks in the body of the quilt you are making or just for the corner blocks. Did you end up getting any rain? How is your new lawn company/person working out?
My crafting today might have been getting a slot in the quilt camp for DGD and myself. Looks like they might be using a fabric cafe pattern -but I doubt they are as that would require some sort of permission to duplicate one of their patterns. I hope DGD likes the process and I am looking forward to sharing this with her. Babysat 3 little ones today. DGD#2 stayed home sick because she had a fever last night. She did take a nap this am and seemed a bit tired.
Ruth, hope you had a great day and got some crocheting in.

No, we were planning to go to Walmart on Monday but I love to procrastinate and also saw a blanket I wanted to try so I talked dh into waiting until wed. I do have one blanket that is mostly pink that is done and the one I'm (hopefully) buying yarn for tomorrow which is the one I like best. The one I just started is called the Peek a Boo blanket on youtube but I haven't paid that much attention to them but I think it's the same as the Virus blanket. It looks complicated but I was so surprised to see how easy it is. It's not a baby blanket size plus it has large holes and a lot of ppl are making them as baby blankets but I'm not. I had 2 skeins of a burnt orange color and also am using white. It's going to be whatever size it is when the yarn is used up. It doesn't require a border. If they have the shade of pink I need I'll probably leave that one and finish the pink. It's very easy and should go fast so I might have time to do both..I also have a teal and white one that I've started. The pink one is crumpled griddle stitch and teal is griddle stitch so they are almost the same and most people probably wouldn't notice the difference. h I hope your dgd is ok and the fever has gone. I'm glad you got yourself and dgd into the quilt camp. I hope, too, that she enjoys it and gains a love of quilting and remembers Grandma teaching her how to quilt.

Ruth I mess up all the time- either forgetting to refresh or hit send. Hope that you can find what you are looking for at Walmart and that the store is not too crowded. The virus afghan does seem to have larger holes…so I can see why you might not like it for a baby. What/who would you be making that afghan for? You always come up with the neatest projects!!!
DGD #2 seemed fine this morning and went to school- plus all her siblings are not sick. That is good. Took DGS#2 to Joanns this am to get supplies for the tshirt quilt I am going to make for his mom. Well…. Insanely frustrating. The interfacing was poorly organized and they really did not have everything I was looking for. I did buy thread, and just got off their web site where I was able to find everything I was looking for and got $1.99 shipping. Visiting the store this am was a waste of time. I asked for help with interfacing neither person I spoke to had any knowledge of quilting, so they were of no help. It worked out better that I was able to come back and find the product I needed online and just order it. Frustrating for sure but I am glad I got the order placed. Hope to start cutting the t shirts tonight in anticipation of getting the supplies I just ordered.
CJ- hope you are having a great day and getting some time in to play with fabric. My area has a freeze warning- and will have to bring some plants in or cover others just to be safe.

Ginny, that is so frustrating when the employees are not willing or not able to help. It also must have been very frustrating that you went out to the store taking the little one with you and were unable to get what you needed. I saw that Joann's had 1.99 shipping but I don't like that that's a play on the truth because they also charge you another $1.99 for handling. I had a similar experience today at Walmart. I needed to find the yarn section so I spotted and employee walking toward the back of the store so said "excuse me" and was to ask for directions. She shook her head and pointed to the back of the store which is not where yarn is so I'm sure she was telling me she was on the way to the back. It woulld have taken her 2 seconds to tell me where the yarn was but thankfully I took just a couple steps and saw the yarn isle. I'm glad you will be able to start cutting the shirts
I did find the yarn I needed. I took a sample of the yarn with me to make sure. Now I can finish that one. The one you asked about who I was makng that for, I don't know. I just wanted to try it and have no one in mind right now.

Ruth, so glad you were able to find the yarn you were looking for! Smart move bringing a sample of the yarn you were looking to match. It would have been so annoying if you had to go to another Walmart. If I remember correctly there is another walmart, but a bit further. Sure would have stunk if you had to go to another store. Hope that the new pattern is easy to make and works up beautifully. What a shame about the employee not wanting to help. Not everyone understands the meaning of customer service.
Saturday afternoon I went to Lowes…and was buying some heavy mulch and stones for my neighbor. I could not have found more pleasant or helpful staff- who loaded the heavy items onto my cart and then into my car. I did complete a survey afterward praising both employees.
Regarding Joanns, I dealt with 3 employees. One was both disinterested and unknowlegable. The other two tried to help but both admitted their short comings. The one indicated that she sewed garments but knew nothing about quilting. So I guess further explanation was needed on my part. Honestly the one fabric was not available in the store, so I would have had to go online. And with gas prices being high, I did not really care about having to pay a handling fee. Between the time and gas to drive to the store, I am happy it will be delivered to me now.
CJ- how is your day going?

well I somehow messed up. Even though I took a sample of the pink yarn with me and in the store it looked like it matched it does not. I'm using RHSS and they have several shades of pink. Perfect pink, petal pink, baby pink and two others. I got the baby pink and think I needed the petal pink. So plan is revised and I started another blanket in some other brand of pink and white yarn that I had on hand. Luckily I'm using an easy stitch so still have time, I think, to get this done.
CJ, I meant to say hello yesterday but my message somehow go sent without me even touching that button before I could add. I hope you had a good day and will have a good one today also
