September 11- surely a day to remember….got many memories of what happened that day and how it ultimately changed the path of my life.
Had a nice conversation yesterday at the baby shower with Jane about hand quilting. She is finishing up a project (a small one) that she hand quilted. I have that one quilt I made for myself that still needs to be put together- perhaps I will consider hand quilting that.
Ruth- any baby news?

Yes definitely a day to remember...one, because of the absolute horror of that day and now, two, because of the wonderful blessing God has bestowed on our family. Baby was born this morning and all are now home and baby is being admired by 6 of her 8 siblings...the other two are at work and will be there later I'm sure
I hope you are both having a good day despite bad memories of what happened back then. Both of you were very close to the actual sites. It was horrific enough being way out here in the west. I can only imagine the fear of those that lived closer

Many congratulations Ruth on the arrival of a new grandbaby!! An easy day to remember too- what do they now call September 11, Patriots day? That is a large family for sure! My friend (who I have mentioned before) is expecting niece or nephew #8 from her brother in Early 2024. Glad that your newest grandbaby is safely here and in the company of immediate family. Hope that DDIL is feeling well and has plenty of help from the others.
Babysat today…and yes did well remember the horrible tragedy that took place in 2001. I know from seeing other posts in the past (on other web sites) that unless you have a family in the military or lived near Washington DC, Pennsylvania or NYC that the day tends to be brushed aside. For the rest of us, and Yes I know CJ you are included in this statement, we remember all too well the horror and loss.
CJ- hope you got some crafting in.
I ended up taking my car for an estimate, it needs a new muffler and it’s NOT cheap. They will not know for sure until the car is up on the lift, but if the whole thing needs to be replaced it will be expensive.

Ginny, yes my son was in the military at that time and he and his family were over in Germany. No one knew what was going to happen next.
Sorry about your muffler problem. First tires now muffler and possible entire exhaust system! Cars are as much as a problem as home ownership...always needing something done. I was very fortunate when I had the second episode of rodent damage to my car's wires that the service manager was so kind
Well back to crochet after baby info watching and baking bread...which is still in progress..the bread that is. I set aside the afghan I was working on yesterday and I think day before too, because it kept getting different stitch counts and I couldn't figure out why. I counted each row and put a stitch marker at the beginning and end stitch but still a problem. So this pattern is from Lion Brand and called The Two Color Afghan. It will take awhile because it's sc, skip one throughout the whole thing. I made this pattern back in 2006 for dh for Christmas.A friend who. along with me, were on the old WW board on Meg's crafting thread made this for our dh's. She passed away from cancer not long after that...the friend that is.I'm sure her dh has treasured that afghan ever since. He seemed like a very devoted and loving husband. We did notice that it turned out really small even though both of us made it twice the size the pattern called for. It didn't meet the stated measurement the pattern said it would be so I've again enlarged it making the chain the width I want using the mulitples.

Got another friend whose grandson is stationed in Romania- not exactly a good place to be these days. Anyway Ruth - glad your family was ok through 911- in some ways being stationed in Germany would not be a bad choice.
That is awful about the afghan pattern! I wonder if concern over the pending birth of your sweet little granddaughter might have impacted your concentration. Think it might bother mine a bit. Has your new granddaughter met her entire immediate family yet? And how is DDIL feeling?
My muffler - if it needs pretty much everything will be over $2000. Yikes. But the car needs it and I need the car. Guess I will have my answer tomorrow.
CJ - fortunately hurricane Lee will leave your area alone! Hope you are getting some crafting in and enjoying cooler temps.
Got both little boys in for naps. Gonna try to embroider awhile

One of the bad things about living in a place where they use salt of the streets muffler damage and body damage but Yikes is right....$2000 for a muffler!!!!!!!
Yes my concentration has not been good. Concern about the baby and also all this medical appointment stuff really is pretty much weighing on my mind.I did do a small swatch last nigh and I think I've got it now but I've said that before.
Embroidery is a great craft to work on (if you know how to do it and you do) because usually it's a small item,, easily portable, and you can put it down without losing your place.

Hello Ruth - Congratulations on the new family member I hope mother and baby are doing well. Ginny - Sorry to hear about the needed car repairs, hope they won't cost as much as they are saying. The weather here has been a bit cooler, but today it's in the high 80s again and humid. Hopefully some cooler weather will be here soon. I finished two basket blocks for the quilt along I'm doing with the monthly basket blocks. This week will be busy with lots of blocks released, so hopefully I can keep up. Hope you both get to do some crafting too. Take care

Good evening!
Needed a breather so here I sit in my backyard in my PJs - listening to the night bugs. It’s in the low 70’s and reasonably comfortable.
Ruth - no wonder you have been missing stitch counts- so very much going on!!! Hope that things settle down a bit and that you can find the afghan a relaxing project.
CJ- gosh you have. So many projects going on. You seem to be a very organized person , but even at that I wonder how you keep track of it all. But you make so many pretty quilt blocks…. How is your hand quilting coming along?
I did embroider for only a few minutes this afternoon before dgs woke up. I am considering giving this piece to Jane for Christmas - which rather kills 2 birds with one stone, gets the project done and gets a Christmas gift made for her. Of course i still have to finish the baby quilt.😂
Have a good night

Ginny, I do think it's a great idea to gift the embroidered piece to Jane for Christmas. As you said, it takes care of two plans in one
Well I did return that neuro appointment person's call and left a message as I got only voice mail. She never returned my call. I finally called back later in the afternoon to insure that she did, indeed, receive my message. Well I guess the person that answers the phone is some kind of gatekeeper/protector because it's worse than pulling teeth to get to speak to the person Stephanie who makes appointment. The telephone person looked up my dh's info on her computer and said that he has an appointment now on Nov 29th. Well that's exactly what a telephone person told me last week...that an app't had been scheduled...and then on the day, as I mentioned, they called and said there was no app't..it was a mistake. So I explained that to this person and she assured me that the app't has been made....so why didn't anyone call to tell us there was an appointment. How would I have known if I hadn't called back? They surely must have a procedure in place for notifying patients on appointments. This is all very stressful. Now I have to call my dentist and make another appointment plus those other two doctors...blahhhhhh
Probably are going grocery shopping later today after dh wakes from his nap. I'll see you later

Ruth, everyone from my plumber to dentist to dermatologist texts now to confirm appointments. Is that possible for the neurosurgeon? gosh it all seems very confusing for you and stressful, I agree. Hopefully you can get it all straightened out. Did you end up going grocery shopping?
So this am I got to the store for a handful of items and then dropped the car off. Got home- and made 3 more batches of grape juice for jelly. I could not inspire myself to actually make the jelly. That can happen perhaps tomorrow. I was very fortunate and my car was a third of the original possible estimate. Still not cheap but at least not over $2000. And today my plumber came to check my furnace for winter. Sounds like I am all set….for whenever cooler temps arrive.
CJ- how was your day?
See ya tomorrow

Hello - Hope you are both doing well and having nice weather It's finally cooler and nice here. Ruth - I hope you were able to get all your appointments made. Ginny - I'm happy to hear that your car repair estimate has dropped. I've made a few blocks the last few days. I'm not really happy with how my blocks for Moda Blockheads are going - the fabric combinations just aren't looking that great. I decided to drop one of the combinations I was using from a fat quarter bundle. I'll use those fabrics for something else. I'm going to continue with the other fat quarter bundle and see how that goes. I also tried some fabric just from my stash and like it, but I'm not sure I would want to use it for the 30+ blocks in this quilt along. I might just use this fabric for the first 10 blocks that they are doing and ending in November. I also pulled out a jelly roll so that I can make a quilt with it for National Jelly Roll Day which is this Saturday, September 16th. Here's the pattern I'm going to make: www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3HP9fJWFqgI think it should go together pretty quickly, but I hope to get about half of it made before Saturday. Hope you both get to do some crafting too. Take care

Yes, CJ, that pattern should go together pretty quickly and easily!! It’s a cute pattern. Of course I like the blue and yellow fabrics…one of my favorite color combinations. I am really glad that you decided to stop using that combination of fabrics….just because a designer thought it looked good together does not mean that it meets your own personal taste. No sense playing with fabric that you are not pleased with the look of. Life is too short to sew a project you are not fond of when you are working on projects that you want to make.
Worked this am and then rushed home to babysit DGS for a short while. I ended up with a bit of a headache, so I got some housework done and ran a short errand. tomorrow is a very long day for me, so I think some embroidery time is in order.
Ruth, hope that all is well and that you were able to straighten out those doctor and dentist appointments.

I went to check the pattern that CJ posted and forgot to come back.I really like it and it does seem fairly easy. I'm sorry you didn't like the fabric you used, CJ but I know you'll find some that works for those specific blocks
Ginny,how's the quilt coming along?
Yes we did end up grocery shopping yesterday but that was the only place we went so it wasn't bad. We also saw our grandson there so that was a nice surprise.
I'm still going go do a little more crocheting tonight I think. I'll see you tomorrow

I have not worked on the quilt for a week- but know that I have to get back to it. Actually, I was invited (along with my kids and their families) to a picnic this Saturday. Each is unable to attend, and I made the decision to stay home tomorrow and work on the quilt. I have a challenging week ahead of me next week and well, gotta conserve my energy. Hoping (once I get the grape juice into jelly and jars) that I will quilt.
