Good morning and Happy Monday!
All crafters are welcome here as we discuss crafting, life and our weight loss journey. Crafting includes actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, chatting with another person about crafting, playing a musical instrument, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store , attending craft fairs,or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward a crafting activity- even visiting us here to join in our posts!! There are plenty of days in which the closest we get to crafting is a visit here, so even if you have no time to craft, we would love to hear from you. We welcome newcomers to our friendly discussion! So glad you are here!! Please feel free to stop in and say hello!!

Not sure why, but starting us off today and knowing that October is next week is mind boggling.
Late yesterday I did finish the last of the tulips (not totally sure but it looks like it might be) and after I get showered and doing something…I will get back to the next blocks. For now, it’s time to catch up with cleaning my email, and checking in with you!
Ophelia is still blessing me with some rain, but it does appear as though the rain will diminish as the day goes on. Will check back in later on

Hello - Hope you are both doing well today. The weather here is still cloudy, and it looks like there could be another shower today, temps in the 60s. Ginny - I'm glad to hear your finished the last of the tulips and I hope you can get make some of the other blocks. Ruth - I saw these cute crocheted Princess crowns and thought you'd like to see them: smallquiltsanddollquilts.blogspot.com/After cutting the pieces for a scrappy border for my Farm Girl Vintage quilt I didn't like how they looked when I laid them out. I think I'd just prefer a border from one fabric. I'm going to look online and see if I can find the fabric that I pulled from my fat quarter bundle and that I thought would look good as a border. I like the blocks better seeing them all put together. Here's a picture of that quilt top and the two Dutchman's puzzle quilt tops that I'd been talking about. I hope I can feel motivated to get some backing and batting cut for both of those. Take care and have a good day!

Ginny, it's great that you have all the tulips done. How many of the tulips did you have to make and how many of the others are there.Did your rain stop?
CJ, those quilts are all very pretty but the bottom one is my favorite. Thank you so much for the link to the princess crowns. I did make some for my older granddaughters and one in blue for the second youngest dgs but it was a different pattern. I'm going to make this pattern for my great granddaughters,
We went out to do a couple errands today and ended up going to the dollar store and grocery store. We got a lot of great bargains at the grocery store on items that were coming a little close to their "best by" date and some other things that I have no idea why they marked them down.We were both tired by the time we got home so rested the remainder of the day. I watched football and dh I think watched some news channel.Of course I crocheted while watching the game and since I'm not a fan of either of those teams I didn't really care who won.We have to go out again tomorrow. It's our annual visit and to review lab results which she could have just put in the patient portal because she usually doesn't do anything else.

Hello Ruth - I'm glad you found some bargains at the stores, that's always nice to have happen. I hope you enjoy making the princess crowns for your great granddaughters. It's really ridiculous you have to go in to the doctor's office just to review lab results. I know a lot of my family does those types of appointments over Zoom (or something like that) now. But I hope everything goes well and the lab results are all good. Ginny - Hope you are getting to work on your quilt and the weather isn't too bad for you. It's drizzling here today, and in the 60s. I went out this morning to do my shopping, so I won't be doing any quilting today. I might try and work on that September embroidery piece that I started last week. Hope you both get to do some crafting today. Take care

Well I am relaxing downstairs and responding on my phone- so that means I mess up my responses and make no sense! Forgive me in advance
CJ - so glad that the Farmgirl quilt looks better to you when the blocks are put together! It’s adorable and I feel confident that you will find the right fabric for a border. Funny how our tastes are different. I prefer the middle Dutchmen block- of course it’s just my taste! Do you prefer one of the quilts over the other??
Ruth - yes it’s absurd that you should be able to get your lab results in the patient portal if an actual office visit is so non productive. I hope the lab work shows nothing unexpected . Congrats on getting some great bargains in the grocery store! That crown pattern CJ found is adorable and I know you will enjoy making crowns for your dgds.
Took the boys to the park today- they were outside a lot! I did get some embroidery time in during their naps today. Hope you sleep well tonight

This was actually supposed to be our annual "check up" as well as reviewing lab results. In the labs there was nothing unexpected. The physical again consisted of a 3 second heart check and she listened to our lungs with the usual 4 deeps breaths...two on each lung. It was a complete waste of time. And she had no idea that dh had seen ortho and was soon going to see the neuro surgeon for possible surgery even though she is the one that sent the referrals.
Haven't done any crocheting today yet since we didn't have a very long wait and I was busy after we got home.
Ginny, I'm glad to hear you were able to take the boys outside today and they took naps which enabled you to do a little embroidery
See you tomorrow!

Ruth- are all these doctors in the same health care system? Seems as though that is how medicine operates these days- patient information is shared within the network. I am so sorry the office visit was so disappointing- but glad to hear that there were no surprises.

Cannot say that today was a quiet day- I worked a lot and ran one errand. I am looking for a much more quiet day tomorrow and getting to spend some time quilting. Think I will take my embroidery out, and watch some TV. Hard to believe that next week I will have temperatures in the high 70’s.

Hello Ruth - I'm sorry you had to go to an appointment where they didn't much for you or your DH. It's sad that doctors don't really know what is going on with their patients. Ginny - Hope tomorrow is quieter for you. They are saying our temps next week will be in the 80s! I like both of the Flying Dutchman quilts - my goal was to use some floral fat quarters I had and show off the fabric, so I'm happy with how the blocks do that. The new Pat Sloan block came out today, so I made my Fall version and my Christmas version. These blocks are coming along nicely. I hope in a few weeks I can figure out my fabrics for the sashings. The Moda Blockheads block this week is Foundation Paper Piecing, which I don't like, so I'm going to make a substitute block (which many others are going to do too). Also, a new quilt along started today and all it uses is one Layer Cake and some background fabric. I think I might give it a try, since it's only for about two months.

Yesterday was a quiet and good day for me. I got to stay home and work on my current afghan. Today I'll do some cooking and cleaning...maybe. Well cooking yes but maybe not as much cleaning as I had in mind.
CJ, I really like both but I love the Christmas one. It sounds like you have some good plans in mind as usual.
Ginny, I hope you have some days where you can just rest and work on either the quilt or embroidery.

Hello - H0pe you are both doing well and having nice weather. It's cloudy and in the 60s here today, nice Fall weather Ruth - I'm glad you had a quiet day yesterday and I hope you were able to get your cooking done. Ginny - Hope you have found some time to work on your quilt. I took a look at two of my block of the month quilts this morning and figured out layouts for them. I'd like to get started on them so I don't have to do everything in December when the last block comes out. After that I was able to cut the batting and backing fabric for the two Dutchman's Puzzle quilts and I thread basted one of them. After I was almost done with the basting I realized I wanted to use a different batting than I did I like to use a thinner batting when doing hand quilting but I put in Warm and Natural. Oh well, I'll just have to quilt it the way it is. I'm going to wait to thread baste the other one until I see how the quilting goes on the first one. I also did some more embroidery on the September piece. I'd sure like to finish it but I don't think I can get it done by Saturday. I'll see how it goes. Hope you get to do some crafting. Take care

Good afternoon!
CJ - as always you have been busy with fabric! Glad you were able to work with both the gnome fabric and fall colors- it’s so cute! I am going to agree with Ruth and say that my personal preference is the Christmas fabrics block. Guess I am just a sucker for Christmas fabrics and colors. Both sets of blocks look great. So hard to believe that it will be so warm next week- which does not make me all that happy either.
Ruth-hope you got all the cooking and crocheting done that you wanted to. Have you had any luck getting an appointment with the eye doctor? (Think you also had to get into see that doctor also). By the way my DSIL and Dbil found a new primary care physician - who they cannot get in to see until January. I know you can relate.
So I ended up not having to train this am and was home by 10. It’s been a pleasant quiet day. I did embroider a few minutes and spent some time making dizzy daisies- well the part of marking and snowballing the squares. Think I have almost half of them done .
Hope you have a great night!

CJ - sorry that you accidentally used warm and natural - a great batting but I understand why it might not be a first choice for a hand quilted item.

Hello - Hope you are doing well today. It's been cloudy and in the 60s here again today, not bad. Ginny - I hope you are not being affected by the heavy rain. I'm glad you are enjoying some embroidery. Ruth - Hope your projects are going well and your weather is nice. I made a quilt block this morning as a substitute for the weekly Moda Blockheads block. It's alright but I'm finding I'm not enjoying the quilt along as much this year - I think it's because of my fabric selection. Since this first part ends in November I'll just keep going and see what happens. I did finish my September embroidery last night and it's such a cute pattern. When I was working on it and thinking about how I could put these pieces in a quilt, I thought to myself "what about making a pillow cover and switching it out each month". So that's what I did this morning. I made an envelope cover that has an opening on the back and used some cute apple fabric. I'm going to make one of these pillow covers for each month with the monthly embroidery. So I'll get to enjoy September for a few days, since I think the October pattern comes out next week. I also traced the January pattern onto fabric so I can work on it, and then I'll keep doing each month until I'm caught up. Hope you both have a great weekend! Take care
