Good morning and Happy Monday!
All crafters are welcome here as we discuss crafting, life and our weight loss journey. Crafting includes actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, chatting with another person about crafting, playing a musical instrument, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store , attending craft fairs,or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward a crafting activity- even visiting us here to join in our posts!! There are plenty of days in which the closest we get to crafting is a visit here, so even if you have no time to craft, we would love to hear from you. We welcome newcomers to our friendly discussion! So glad you are here!! Please feel free to stop in and say hello!!

Good Morning! Ruth, good to hear that your mouth is healing well (thanks CJ for remembering to ask!). It’s a good idea that DH is asking to get boxes with the intent of going through the garage. Why do we all procrastinate over downsizing our stuff?? Think everyone is guilty of that. Glad to hear that you got to doing some crocheting. I am sure you will figure out which projects to keep, donate or repurpose the yarn. You have mentioned reusing the yarn from other projects many times in the past.
I did get the final snowballed pieces put together last night- and figure that tomorrow I will get to actually making the dizzy daisies.
LONG day today. I hope that the internet/cable company comes at a good time and avoids the need for me to go back and forth to DD’s house a few times. DS is home most of the day…he should be able to handle the situation.

Hello Hope you are having nice weather today. It's another sunny day here with temps in the 80s. Ruth - I'm glad to hear your mouth is healed. Good luck to you with the decluttering. I'm hoping to get more of that done this month and winter. Ginny - I'm glad you were able to get some quilting done and hope that they can get your internet/cable fixed today. It's so irritating when we have problems with those things, makes me realize how dependent we are on them. The October quilt block pattern for the A Quilting Life quilt along came out today, so I made that this morning. She also gave the pattern for 6 sashing cornerstones - which are 3 inch Friendship Stars, so I made them too. I sure admire those quilters who make those small blocks, I find them difficult since my fingers are large and working with those small pieces is tough. I'd love to have the full layout for this quilt along, but as she said in her video today - it's a mystery I also traced the October embroidery pattern that came out yesterday. This is one that I'll make into a pillow cover to change out from the September pillow. I'm going to leave the cat off and put something else there instead to make it a bit easier. pinkernpunkinquilting.blogspot.com/2023/10/october-there-is-magic-in-name.htmlHope you both get to do some crafting today

Happy Monday afternoon!!!
CJ- leave it to you to be so productive today!! I will have to go check out the quilting life pattern that is online- honestly most of the time I am just so overwhelmed with other stuff that I do not get a good chance to check out her post. So glad you made the block, and were able to walk away from the small friendship stars. Not so sure I would be interested in making those either. For me I think the frustration would be from the level of precision required to cut those small pieces. Do not blame you for wanting the entire layout for the quilt….and for me I will not do anymore mystery quilts. Oh! For the October block (I would keep the cat there but I have 2 cats at home!) perhaps you could just put a another leaf or two- and center the pumpkin on the block.
Ruth, how is your day going?? Have you figured out which projects you will take apart to re use the yarn??
My cable is not fixed but functioning. The tech arrived (without calling) at 3 and told me (over the phone) that the one cable needs to be replaced but that he did not have enough time to do so because he punches out at 4. So they are sending another tech tomorrow am, which means that I have to drive to DD’s house, pick up the little boys and bring them here, and hope that the cable company shows up. They promised me the tech would show up between 8 am and 11 am. I will absolutely threaten to cancel my service if they mess this up. (What a pain in the neck). The really sad thing is that each tech seems to have a different opinion regarding what the problem is.
So no crafting for me today, but then I did not expect to get any done.

Well here we are in a new week. This year seems to be flying by. I can't believe it's Oct 2nd already.
CJ, I know I'd never be able to do those small blocks. And as far as mystery projects go I always want to know what I'm making. I've never joined a mystery crochet a long. Maybe in the qal you can use the blocks in some other way if you don't like the mystery once it's revealed. You're very creative so I'm sure you can and will make your own changes. I would probably take the cat out too. I like other people's pets but am not interested in having one of my own.
Ginny, I'm sorry that tech couldn't work on your cable and get it fixed but glad it's at least working. I'd threaten also if they put me in a place like they're putting you where you have to go to pick up the boys rather than babysit them at your dd's home. They are putting you at a great inconvenience.I know that as soon as there is another option for internet here I will cancel my cable. I've already cancel tv and use only antenna.
Weather is cold here. A couple nights this week it will get down into the 30's.
I'm nearly done with the current afghan. I just have maybe one more row of border to put on. I might do one more after that but I think it will look great with just one more and I can then move on to the next.

Hello - Hope you are both doing well today and having nice weather. It's sunny and in the 80s here. Ginny - I hope that they came today to fix your cable, but glad you were able to at least use it. It's very frustrating dealing with service calls these days, most of the time it ties up our whole day. Ruth - Hope you are able to keep warm in your house. I'm glad to hear you are almost finished with the current afghan and hope you can start working on another one soon. I did make those 3 inch friendship star blocks and they turned out alright. I'm just happy to have them done before December when she'll reveal the final layout. I went out earlier to run errands and stopped into the new Hobby Lobby near me that opened earlier this year. It was very nice inside and I saw some fabrics that I liked, but didn't buy any. They have lots of home decor and I'm sure that some people need that, but I sure don't After I came home I put the borders on my Farm Girl Vintage quilt top, so it's done now. And last night I finished the October embroidery and today I made the pillow cover, so it's done and I can enjoy it this month. Instead of the cat, I was trying to embroidery some pampas grass and then I thought it looked like a birch tree, so it is whatever is is Hope you get to do some crafting today too. Take care

Good evening!
CJ. Welcome to Hobby Lobby!!! It’s a beautiful chain of stores, and they do have a large selection of home decorative items. I like to pick up an occasional home Dec item, but do go there for fabric. Some of their fabric is excellent quality (for a non quilt shop) and the flannel I used for one of the twin boys baby quilts came from there. If it’s on your way to other errands or convenient, I would use them for fabric, although mine does not have the larger assortment that Joanns has. Bet you are glad to have the October embroidery done and I hope you are enjoying the pillow!! The vintage farm girl quilt is lovely…I like projects like the quilt and the pillow that are easy ways to change seasonal decor to spruce things up. (Wish I could find where I hid my fall table runner!). I know of a person who changes curtains and bedspreads and pictures with the season. Sure sounds too much like work for me!
Ruth, that is great progress on the afghan! Who is the planned recipient for this one? Is the border a contrasting color or the same as the body? Who gets the next afghan? Yikes, is this dip in temperature the beginning of winter type weather for you or do you expect some warmer temps to return? its good crochet weather, for sure.
Now if it was my pillow I would leave the cat in the embroidery design although with living with 2 cats, I do not need another one, even on a pillow.
Bright and early I packed up the 2 little boys and brought them back here (and was here by 8) . At 10 I called the cable company expecting to hear bad news that they were not coming or did not have me even on their schedule. The robo operator told me the service tech would be here between 10:23 and 11: 23….and sure enough he was here around 11. Nice guy, the same person they sent yesterday only he had enough time today. He cleaned up a multitude of hanging wires and cables, and it all seems to be working well. And he replace the cables too…my internet is not super super fast, so I might go get the speed booster they offered me (free) but right now I can do what I want. Honestly I am reasonably pleased. The little boys had a lot of fun playing outside with water shooters….(like large water pistols) and they found out that their grandma might squirt them back (which of course I did). Yes a tiring day for me….think I am going to put a movie on and embroider.

Well I'm late getting here again.
CJ I really like that pillow. I went to the site at that link and I do like the cat on the embroidery pattern but I,too, wouldn't have put one on one I made.I think your trees looks very nice in place of the cat.
I haven't been to Hobby Lobby since about 2019 but I hear from ppl on the crochet group that they, like other stores are cutting down on the amount of yarn they have in the store. I haven't looked at their fabric in a long time but when I did they had very nice fabric. We have a Michael's which I've never been to and we have no Joann's.Walmart has some precut packaged fat quarters but that's it for fabric.
I did finish the afghan. The border is two colors...the color of the afghan itself and white. It looks fantastic if I do say so myself. I made it up as I went along (the border that is) and I think it turned out really nice.I did more rows than I planned on making mainly because I wanted to use up the yarn with is pound of love it creamsicle but I still didn't get it all used to I'll use it for a hat. It's not for a particular person but now I'm thinking that maybe I should designate each one for a particular person and then tell them that they can feel free to trade if they want to.
Didn't get much done today.Dh was and still seems to be in a mood to chat so that's what we did.I could have got my crocheting and crocheted while he talked but was too lazy to go upstairs and get it.

Ruth, that is great that you finished the afghan and even better are so very pleased with how it turned out! It must be the perfect size…kind of nice that you have a bit of the yarn left over for a hat. Would you make that hat as an additional gift for the recipient of the afghan? I do not get into HL all that much, and usually do not even investigate their yarn department. It’s not huge from what I remember. What a shame that they are reducing their yarn supplies. IMO AC Moore had the best yarn inventory of all the craft stores, Walmart does not carry much yarn and Michaels is also just ok. Well I guess it’s a positive thing that at least Michaels does sell yarn. Ruth, because you are on the crochet groups online, where is everyone buying their yarn these days? So glad that Dh is chatting and in a mood to spend time in conversation.
I slept well, but struggled to fall asleep. Got a doctors appointment this afternoon- routine screening.

Hello Hope you are both having a good day and nice weather. It's sunny and in the 80s again today. It's really not weather to complain about but my upstairs is hot again and I don't have the AC to use now. I have been using the fans and that is working. Ruth - Your afghan sounds beautiful, I'm glad you were happy with how you made it. It's fun to just make something creative from ourselves, isn't it? There was only one aisle of yarn in Hobby Lobby and a few bins with some. I had read that they have really reduced their needlecrafts and quilting inventory and are focusing more on home decor. I used to love AC Moore, and was said when they went away. I have to say that the JoAnn's near me does have a pretty good yarn inventory. I hadn't been in my local Michaels for several years because it had become so grungy. I went in there last year before Christmas and they had remodeled and it was very nice in there and they had a wonderful selection of artificial Christmas flowers, which is what I went in there for. Ginny - I'm glad you slept well once you fell asleep. Hope you doctor's appointment goes well. This morning I made the new Pat Sloan weekly block in my gnome fabric and Christmas fabric (the bottom blocks in the pictures are this week's pattern). I had originally made the gnome block with all white squares going down diagonally and it looked terrible, so I changed it out to two white and two green and like it better. It's getting to that point where I really have to watch my fabric choices and placement so the quilt is balanced at the end. I also made last week's Moda Blockheads block (it's the bottom right block and was partially my design and partially a pattern from another quilter). The new Moda blocks came out today, but I need to save them for later this week. Take care!

Ginny, I'm sorry to hear that you're still having problems with falling asleep. I hope you felt a little refreshed after the little sleep you got. I'm glad the cable tech was able to get your internet to a decently workable level.
CJ, as usual very beautiful quilts. I was watching a video last evening by a young woman that has a crochet channel there and she was showing things that people sent her mainly for the auction she has each year to help local animal rescue place. One thing that was sent to her was a beautiful and very well made large piece that the sender said was a mug rug. It had gnomes with bees on it and an obviously machine embroidery of the crochet channel name. Then she opened a package that had a quilt which I thought was really ugly and not made well at all.
I haven't gotten to any crocheting yet. Some of my time was spent emailing the garbage pickup company we have now who hasn't picked up our garbage for 3 weeks and again didn't pick it up yesterday. The owner claims her employees said they've picked mine up weekly for six weeks which is not true at all. The huge bin is full and we don't produce much garbage. It's supposed to be picked up every two weeks. So after she told me it was picked up weekly for six weeks and I responded that it was not she must have thought a little bit about customer relations and wrote back and said that her "truck will be in the area tomorrow (kind of)" and they would swing by and get my garbage. We were seriously thinking of going with a different company again. Joys of home ownership as I'm sure you both know

Hello Hope you are both doing well today and having nice weather. It's finally a bit cooler here - in the 70s, but humid. Ruth - I hope the trash pickup came for you today. I'm fortunate that my taxes pay for weekly trash pickup, but you are right about the "joys of home ownership" Ginny - Hope you are having a good day. I went out to lunch with family today, so I didn't get to do any quilting. Maybe I can do a bit of hand quilting this evening. Hope you both get to do some crafting today. Take care!

CJ- hope that you enjoyed your time with your family and the lunch out!!!! I am sure some hand quilting will be a nice relaxing thing for you to do this evening.
Ruth, yikes- I cannot imagine the trash pick up company so blatantly lying about their nonexistent service to you. I do hope that they get to pick up your trash..and perhaps another company is in order.
I did get to a quilt shop with Jane- she had luck finding a great fabric for the quilt she is looking for. I am planning on heading to Joanns for what I need for the panel quilt.

CJ, I'm happy for you that you got out to have lunch with family. It's good to get out now and then and also to catch up on family news. And to what you said yesterday, Yes it's great to make something up ourselves and see it come out looking great. I know you've experienced that a lot.
Ginny, I hope you find a really nice fabric for the panel quilt you mentioned. I really like looking at fabric as well as yarn but haven't done it in a long time. I still have a large stash of fabric also.
The garbage people did come today and yes the reason I switched to this company was because my old company missed picking up our garbage six weeks in a row which was three scheduled pickups missed. I would hate to have to change again because there are only three companies here that do it and the other one is more expensive and doesn't offer a every two week pickup option.
Ginny, you asked the other day if I had received any new pictures of the new grandbaby and yes, just the other day ds sent a lot. She is just so cute and now that she's almost 4 weeks old more alert and smiling.
I've pretty much crocheted all day so am coming along with the blankets.
Oh and no the hat I'll make with leftovers probably won't be given to the same person the blanket is going to but now that you mention it I might change my mind and do that. I do have a lot of hats to donate so have to get that trip made to take them where they need to be.

Hello - Hope you are both doing well today. It's in the 70s and a bit humid here today. I'm ready for the 60s coming up soon. Ginny - Hope you get what you need at JoAnns Ruth - I'm glad to hear the trash company came and that your granddaughter is doing well I finished a few quilt blocks this morning for the Moda Blockheads quilt along. I had thought I was going to stop using that one fat quarter bundle with the florals (pinks, blues, yellows, whites), but I've continued making the blocks and now that I'm seeing them all together they look alright. I think the problem is that when you cut up a pretty piece of fabric into small pieces you lose the design. I also finished this week's block in the blues/creams/tan fabric. I still need to do the one in the purple/light/blue/print and hope to get it done this weekend. Last night I did some hand quilting and finished another of the 4 sides of the medallion mini quilt I've been working on. I just have two sides left to finish. Hope you get to do some crafting today too. Take care and have a great weekend!
