THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE Isn't it funny what appeals to us? I love this book and have read it more than once. I believe it is a favorite of Stephen King as well.

Keep encouraging me about Demon Copperhead. This is a slow slug! I'm halfway through it.

Lots of great ideas. I have a whole page of books to request from the library. I have been only reading pretty light stories lately. Too much stress in my life recently to get into deep reading. Just started Home Front by Kristin Hannah. A helicopter pilot has been deployed shortly after 9-11 leaving a husband and 2 children at home. That's about as far as I've gotten.

I really liked HOME FRONT, Betty. I thought it was one of the best of Kristin Hannah's early books. Enjoyed MAD HONEY too. I like what I know about Jodi Picoult. The fact that she worked with her co-author is lovely. All good suggestions! I found the premise of THE MEASURE fascinating, Ruth. The author uses it to point out how people treat those who are "others." Interesting. One of my book club members found it offensive on religious grounds. Most of us thought it was very creative. I am still reading AMERICAN PROMETHEUS about J Robert Oppenheimer and SAPIENS by Yuval Noah Harari. Next book for one of my book clubs is BORN A CRIME by Trevor Noah. Will want to skim it to review it before our meeting.

Ann, I am not sure I am glad I stuck with Demon Copperfield. the later part of the book is pretty good but almost too long a wait. I spent so much time being angry with him that it was hard to keep reading!!

I started THE RUNNING GRAVE by Robert Galbraith last night. I know I am going to like this book.

Sadly, Connie, I need to finish the book because we are discussing it at my book group next week. It's good discipline for me. I know it is a significant book but I think it could have been much shorter. Do we really have to live Demon's adolescence moment by moment? My theory is that Barbara Kingsholver got really into the anecdotal scenes and since she is such a popular, excellent writer, her editor decided to let her fly without clipping her wings.

I was so bogged down at first and had no empathy was surprised at myself that I kept at it. I do not recommend this book to any of my reading friends and DGD has no interest in reading it after she asked for a synopsis.
I already into THE RUNNING GRAVE. Do not know what the title means but sure will figure it out soon. I am having trouble putting this book down. so far have had all my meals reading it. and tomorrow will get groceries and get back so I can pick up where I leave tonight. Will not pick it up in morning will just get ready and go!!! So I can get back to it. I really do not want to hurry because I am always so sorry when I am done with these books and then have to wait on the next one.

conniej, it's THE RUNNING GRAVE. The title is a line in a poem, which doesn't get referenced until late in the book (if memory serves).

conniej , so sorry! I hate it when something is spoiled! I will be more careful in the future. I avoid even the introductory descriptions on physical books because they give so much away.

I had a terrific discussion of BORN A CRIME in my book club this evening. Trevor Noah was born to a white father and black mother in South Africa before apartheid was lifted. Sexual relations across the races was prohibited so he was, indeed, born a crime. Noah had a difficult childhood, but his strong, intelligent mother helped him through, as did the sense of humor they both had.
My next book club book is THEIR EYES WERE WATCHING GOD by Zora Neale Hurston. The book was written in 1937 and is considered a classic from the Harlem Renaissance. Looking forward to reading it.
