I had time today to get back to HOLLY!! Emma loved my book mark and when I started back to it this afternoon she had put in in different place. Took me awhile to get back to where I was. Guess she thought it should be in the middle of the book. She is a trip!! Now I am 3/4 of the way through it. Kind of grossed out but King does that to me.
So since I am moving right along thought I would start THE GIRL IN THE EAGLES TALON’S By
Karin Smirnoff. The continuing story of the GIRL WITH THE DAGON TATTOO. I am really curious about where this is going to go.
I have never thought of writing a novel. But have written short stories. And a few poems in my day. Don’t do much of either any more. I never did let anyone read them. My Mom wrote poems all the time, to my Dad, for her Red Hatters Group and even for my birthday now and then. She was pretty good.
I still do not like a big novel that get bogged down and goes on and on. Feel like I could write a short story and get it over with!!! LOL
I did like the last IN DEATH book. I also liked Nora Roberts trilogies. but no I don't read her romance novels anymore. Same for Danielle Steel who kept repeating herself in books and always wondered if she had fired her proof readers. She was a favorite author of mine for long time.
Can't wait until to see
WHAT ARE YOU READING???

Just got #22 in the Foreigner series by CJ Cherryh, award winning science fiction writer for years. She has written over 80 books. The foreigner is the one human on the Atevi continent. His people accidentally got lost in space and woke up by an alien planet. The Atevi are basically like very tall ebony humans, kind of like the Japanese culture. They let the humans who left the space station they built live on a large island off their coast, but the two species are wired differently emotionally and it lead to a war. So now one human who has learned the very difficult language Goes back and forth between Governments. Things get complicated when the shop which has been gone 200 years looking for a way back to earth, returns. Books 2-22 follow! The writer has keen social insights.

Yesterday I finished STARTER VILLAIN by John Scalzi. The one-line summary is that a man inherits his uncle's supervillain business. A more accurate summary might be that a man inherits his uncle's companies and finds that his uncle was connected with a group of international billionaire businessmen who have criminal enterprises. It resembles an espionage novel than a science fiction novel, though there are definitely science fiction aspects in that there are genetically engineered animals that help the protagonist. The novel is what fans of John Scalzi have come to expect: ironic humor and a protagonist who reaches his goals through good common sense. Highly recommended. (Content advisory: Scalzi frequently uses the f-word.)
Connie, I have written several novels, and have several published short stories. My latest novel came out in August, and I'm hoping my next novel will come out in November.

I am really enjoying Hello, Beautiful by Ann Napolitano. It is supposed to be a reinvention of Little Women, but I think it is a stretch. It is about four sisters who are very attached to one another. I love good sibling stories since I am an only child. I can't imagine anyone not enjoying this story.

My DGD #2 did like HELLO BEAUTIFUL. She gave it to my DD #2 to give back to me but DD#2 is not reading much right now so will keep it in my pile for later for her. It was an Oprah book club book and I don't usually like her picks but this on I did like.
I moved along pretty good with Holly last night but still have a few pages to go.
thanks Editor Joan. I have copied the list and will check them out. Pretty sure I am going to love them. My kind of book, in between murder and mayhem.

Book club was so much fun tonight. Our book was THE STALKER. We all agreed it was not appropriately named. This book had more twists and turns than you could imagine. I finally finished it and I did like the book. Synopsis: Newly-weds Liam and Laura are spending their honeymoon in paradise: just the two of them on a remote island off the coast of Scotland. But they soon discover that all is not as it seems, and the island has a tragic past. And they can’t shake the feeling of being watched…

I have about 70 pages of Holly left to read and can't wait to get on with it. I was so tired last night I had to read the last 5 pages I was on over again twice. So gave up and went to bed. A rainy day and now I can sit down and just relax and finish this book. I think it is one of King's best books. Sure hope they don't try to make a movie of it though. Would not watch it!! Bad enough reading it!!!
Next book is going to a light read for sure. THE STARFISH SISTERS by Barbara O'Neal
Phoebe and Suze used to be closer than sisters. Growing up in a quiet and wildly beautiful coastal town in Oregon, they shared everything. Until the secrets they couldn’t share threatened their bond and complicated their lives. Now, decades later, Suze, a famous actress desperate for safe haven following a brutal attack, is back in town. Phoebe, a successful illustrator and fabric designer, has discovered keeping a secret means she can’t let anyone get close, aside from her beloved granddaughter, Jasmine. As Jasmine’s move to London looms, Phoebe doesn’t know how to face the return of her old friend and all that’s still unsaid between them. Can the two women who’ve never confronted their past do it now when the choice is between healing and survival?
I have just lately been looking at books by this author. This is new one that came out in paper back in Sept I believe .. My friend gave it to me yesterday. She said very good light read!! just what I need!!!

I've got three "reading" books going which is how I like it.
My feel-good, self-improvement book is From Strength to Strength. It's by Arthur C. Brooks who wrote The Art and Science of Getting Happier: Build the Life You Want with Oprah Winfrey. I wish I'd discovered it 20 or so years ago! I sort of feel too old for it, but I'm getting something out of it. I picked it up because I really liked the book he wrote with Oprah.
My entertaining book is Tainted Mountain by Shannon Baker. This is a book set on the Hopi Reservation in Arizona, near Flagstaff. I think it might be self-published, but I'm not sure. It's the story of a strong young woman who wants to spray water on a mountain for a ski lodge. It's a good story so far and well written.
My craft book, ...I play around with writing short stories and poetry so I like to read a craft book and I just picked up The Art of Brevity by Grant Faulkner. It's about writing short shorts, flash fiction, all those tiny stories.
I like David Whyte's poetry and picked up The House of Belonging at the library. I read in in the moments when I wake up in the middle of the night. Words help put me to sleep.
I recently finished reading All that is Secret by Patricia Raybon. It's set in Denver in the 1920s. A murder mystery which reveals just how far-reaching the KKK was into Denver and Colorado government. That is true as Denver was quite a non-Southern stronghold. Ms. Raybon lives in Denver and is going to come to our book club meeting on Monday and share a slide presentation. If anyone is interested in having an author come to their book club meeting, this is an interesting book for the topic and I'd be delighted to assist in any way I could.

We went to an evening of conversation with writers Richard Russo and Andre DuBois. It was moderated by their editor. What a fbvulous discussion. They both talked about their writing process and how they got started and each of them read from one of their books. They were so honest and accessible. DuBois had a really tough childhood, a lot of abuse and poverty. Russo was an only child, raised by a single mom. He played a twelve string guitar until he started writing....he has a ph.d in English, and gave up the guitar for writing. He said he didn't have enough creativity for both! DuBois teaches full time at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell and clearly loves his students. Russo is 74 and teaches on and off. Lovely, talented men, both of them!

This is funny. I started reading MAD HONEY by Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Finney Boylan. As I started reading it sounded familiar, and yes...I have already read it! Dang! Off to find another book to read.

Barbara O'Neal is a new author for me and Honestly you have hard time putting them down. I have order two older ones and my reading friend ordered two also so we will share. They are light easy reads and they move along quickly. Not that you know the 'secrets" so you are anxious to find out what they are!! FUN

I finished Hello, Beautiful and really enjoyed it. Now I've started Demon Copperhead and know it will be tough for me. My daughter told me not to read it after 4:00! I do love Barbara Kinsholver.
