October 31
National Knock Knock Joke Day
National Caramel Apple Day
and of course Halloween.
I have not heard a knock knock joke in long time., my grandkids were constantly making one up. But the Greats have not got into that yet. All so stupid. But still a laugh
Caramel Apple Day,
Oh I LOVE those apples on a stick that have caramel, chocolate and all kinds of layers. Nuts, sprinkles what ever you want to put with them.
For just one thing I like the red hard layer especially if they are cinnamon. Now days I have to cut them in 4’ths to eat them. Either one of the above and I am good.
Thanks to everyone for hanging with me this month. I did enjoy all your posts. You are the best!!!
Thank you to Diane, and have fun with November.

I read Monday's thread I don't want to get behind but I'm probably am because it's been a while. I had so many things to do for the memorial service for my cousin who was buried right near Mac and my family are so I had I think I figured 15 Arrangements and four or five wreaths. Unfortunately I didn't get the last wreath done because my hand and arm just gave out. It had been painful for quite some time and getting worse and worse as time goes on. So this morning I messaged my doctor and ask for an appointment and I told him why. It wasn't more than half an hour they messaged me back and told me to come today so I went and they did a lot of x-rays and he gave me a cortisone shot in my shoulder but so far it doesn't feel like it's doing much but anyway I haven't been able to do hardly anything because the pain is so bad I mean the pain is horrible I had a rotator cuff pool before but I never had a chair and it isn't very much fun. That plus all the other stuff going on is just sometimes overwhelming..
Well on a better note they asked me if I would take cookies to the luncheon after the memorial service and so I know I didn't feel like standing there to make them and on my arm wouldn't cooperate so I said here on a chair and told Victoria how to do it and she made like six dozen cookies and three different kinds and they turned out really well. She's learning how to cook she also helped me with the last of the wreaths she's learning that too. She's good to have around because she's never upset she's always smiling and she does anything I wanted to do. Even comes over when I'm when she's off if she thinks I need something. That's that's pretty good.
I had forgotten that my son is making vanilla for Christmas too he bought two big bottles of vodka and he said he felt really weird in the store because he didn't want his employer to see him. He doesn't drink anything maybe a half a can of beer now and then but usually not even that. But he bought little bottles and hit and made little labels it's going to be really nice that's a nice gift. I always like to make things for Christmas and I like to get homemade things it shows that people care enough to go to the effort. My phone is dying on me I have no more speech to text on it it just stopped working and there's no way to get it that poor thing I must have dropped it 20 times since I've gotten it. I've had it 3 years and I think I'm going to treat myself to a new phone that one wasn't even new when I got it. It had been my granddaughter's and she got a new one for Christmas that year so she gave me hers. Okay but I want a new one now..
That's it for me I must go to bed good night

When Debbie and Jim got back from getting their marriage license they asked if we had any plans for the rest of the day and we said no so they said they had bought another game that they thought we would like so we started playing that. It was a dice game and kind of like Yahtzee as three cards are turned up and you try to get dice combinations to match the dice on the cards and once you get it you get the card and the points on it and turn up another card. First person to reach 40 points wins. We played until they had to leave for dance class. They are taking dance lessons for the Wedding. They practiced a little here before leaving but Jim asked us not to watch as he was kind of embarrassed. Debbie told us she also has a violin and cello playing music at the actual Wedding. Just that duo will play when seating the mothers and that duo along with the organ will play when she comes down the aisle. She sounded like she really is very much on top of things. I did ask what she was having on the buffet and one of the items is Chicken Marsala. I said I’m glad to know that as that is the chicken option on the restaurant where the rehearsal dinner is being held so now I know not to order that. I might get the beef stroganoff but I also told her I might just have an appetizer and a twice baked potato. She was fine with whatever I want as she just wants me comfortable eating what I know will sit good with me as we don’t eat that late. If I want light she is fine with that as she laughed and said it will make it cheaper for me! I just want to be careful not to have something that might cause problems for me on the Wedding day. But I won’t make a big deal out of it. Jim’s mother is already complaining that she probably won’t eat anything as even a salad upsets her stomach with the new diabetic drug she’s on. I guess Jim got angry and said Mom you know what you can and can’t eat and there is plenty of options for you so stop complaining about everything! Guess that shocked her but about time she was told this is their wedding and not all about her as much as she will try to make it that way!
So today Fred and I will get done what we had planned on doing yesterday.

Good morning. Many thanks CONNIE for doing the thread for October. It was much appreciated by me. So interesting to see what everyone is doing.
WELL...I woke up to snow this morning. I knew it was predicted but hoped it would miss us. Not so lucky. Isn't light out yet so can't see how much. I know it was snowing just a little at 10 last night and when I looked out at 3 a.m. it was still snowing so we probably got about an inch or more. Won't be walking this morning. Hopefully it thaws off a bit by later today. Feel bad for the little ones trick/treating when it's so cold and wet. My neighbor puts so much work into decorating her yard for Halloween she will really be upset that everything is covered with snow.
Uncle Arthritis has sure made it known that there's a change in the weather. I am so stiff. My fingers hardly bend this morning. Oh well..I guess I should consider myself lucky that I'm still able to do almost everything for myself.
Sandy, what is the game called that you were playing? Sounds like fun. We use to play Yahtzee a lot and I do still play it on the computer occasionally. Nice that Jim & Debbie are taking dance lessons. DH was always the dancer and I never could follow him. We just kind of shuffled along. I remember going to a dance one time and he was on the floor all the time dancing while I sat by myself. This was when we were very young and newly married. I think he finally asked one of his friends to ask me to dance but by then I just wanted to go home.
Nothing on my to do list today. A friend and I were going to Savers but with the snow not sure if we will. I'm not feeling good about driving unless it thaws off.
Little dog waiting to sit on my lap so better put the laptop away. bettyj Good morning Phyl and Debby. Love you

Good morning.
It's very foggy here this morning. As a matter of fact when I woke up this morning I thought it was much earlier than it was because it was so dark out.
I had my annual eye exam yesterday. I was a type 2 diabetic when I was heavier on a currently my stats say I'm not diabetic healthcare always considers you one. Thus I have to get an annual exam to make sure that diabetes has not damaged my eyesight.
It was all good news. My eyesight is just as bad as it was last year LOL. But no difference. I've had baby cataracts for going on three or four years now and apparently they just don't change!
So it was see you next year as we blind you with eye drops!

Connie, thanks for the great job you have done with October. My how fast time goes. The year is almost over.
We didn't do Halloween at all when I was growing up. No mention of it at all at school or anywhere. When I was a teenager our teen group had a hayride. We didn't dress up or anything. We went to a house and hollered trick or treat. It was all planned for so we were invited in and had hot chocolate and candy. Even when my kids were young Halloween was not a big thing at all. We lived in the country so nothing. One year we went to hubby's sister's who lived in the edge of Dallas and her kids and my two went out and knocked on the house next door then went where another kid lived and he joined them and they went on to the home of hubby's sister's sister in laws lived. One was deaf. That was all the trick or treat they ever did.
Today is game day so I need to finish my coffee and dress and head out. Have a great day. Don't eat too much candy.

Thanks for posting Jenny!!
Shragae, I am the same with the eye checkup and diabetes. Nice to know that that is what happens to other people as well. I am 3 years with no change for cataract. and have kept the a1c at a good level. boy they sure do dilate the eyes big time anymore. I drive myself and this year it was a bit hairy. Thank goodness don't live far from the office. May get someone to go with me next time.
Linda, those apples were really pretty but the lady that does them here have them pretty fancy and both caramel and chocolate on the apple and a white frosting like swirl as well. love the Granny Smith apples she uses. Like that tart with all that sweet. Only get one a year at the craft show where she has a booth. Just my treat.
I had a hand held Yahtzee game for years. The high score was always listed on it until someone got a higher score. the high score was my DHs. but about 5 years after he died I beat it. I felt kind of bad that I had but also kind of happy about it. I never played it again. the fun was out of it. lol !!
My vanilla beans are on the way that ordered from Amazon. Can't get them in my grocery store so I took the easy way out. don't need many for the Kalua. Now need to get the strong instant coffee. It has to sit at least until Christmas if I make it now. and I will. We still have the Pa State Stores so I don't mind going for a bottle of Vodka. most people in there buying are getting more than 1 bottle of liquor. It is a small place and very helpful clerks. I never know where anything is.
Had a meeting on phone with my financial advisor. I have been so lucky to have had very patient advisors over the years since DH died. I need lot of explanation even though there is not a complicated thing about my small amount. this young man reminds me of my DGS and hope he is as good at his job in the same field as my advisor is. I would not have a family member doing it for me and my DGS understands that. He does tease me though!!!
Sun is shining and if we had snow I missed it and was up at 7am this morning. I am staying away from my crazy neighbor for a little while. she annoyed me so bad yesterday, I just said I have to go and left. her little Great Granddaughter is the dearest thing. so polite and good. I am not sure my neighbor should be babysitting her. she is Crazy!!!

Yes, today is Halloween but since we live in the outback never have any trick or treaters. When my DGSon's were young I would buy them something for Halloween but now one is the Navy in Korea (he repairs helicopters) and the other is getting his PHD in NYC. I do have the two GGD's next door but they are too young to Trick or Treat. If they come to my door later I will give them money but I doubt they will.
Have to put my thinking cap on for our November blanket but hopefully will see you later.
Busy with Raking Kathie

Thanks for the good job all month, Connie.
52 on patio at 7:30 when Bob let out dog. Only reaching 79 today. So nice to wear king pants and a warmer too at last! warm up heat wave to upper 80s next week Minni tucked herself back into her bed, and I am still abed with mug of coffee..down to 71 in the house. Glad I remade beds with more blanket yesterday. Bob's has flannel sheets. It is so quiet without constant drone of AC heat pumps that you can hear traffic in six lane road three blocks away.
Niece left Denver FRIDAY with warm weather and did nit even pack a sweater for here…oops on evenings and mornings. She had to buy a sweatshirt at the airport going back to snow and 30s! Sisters had light jackets and left in warm weather but arrived in Albany at 59 with rain! They are exhausted after two flights with three hours between.
off to my volunteer museum job after I walk her. Picking up a nice baguette and cheese on the way home. Tonight We will have soup and bread with “burbled” cheese on it from broiler

Happy Halloween!
Thank you, Connie, for giving us a wonderful set of topics for conversation during the month of October.
I grew up at the edge of a rather small town, but I had plenty of Halloween goodies. My grandparents lived next door, and they enjoyed making treats for the four kids on our street. Grandpa roasted peanuts and popped corn, and Grandma made fudge and baked cookies. My Aunt Esther (Grandma's sister) at the other end of our street bought Hershey bars to give us, and Uncle Van gave us each a quarter. The Killian boys' grandma would have popcorn balls and apples. My parents usually had store bought candy. So we had enough. We did dress up. My favorite costume was a frog! I hopped all the way!
I am asking for your prayers for my nephew. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and has been on morphine for two weeks. They plan to do a new scan since two spots have shown up on his liver. They are in Houston, so good care is available, but the prognosis is not good. My sister said yesterday that she and DBIL are thinking of renting an apartment near them, so they can help. Their youngest is in kindergarten, and her brother is taking care of her while their mom cares for their dad. He is in intense pain.
