I'm staying home in my pajamas, trying to calm and sooth my old beagle who is terrified of fireworks and loud booms. Our vet gave us some liquid tranquilizer and that helps. I'll be making my Slow Cooker Black Eyed Peas for the next day. It's a tradition. allrecipes.com/recipe/142892/slow-cooker-spicy-black-eyed-peas/

I suspect I will be asleep at midnight. I hate going out on NYE, we stopped years ago. It all feels so forced.

We are all about any opportunity to eat out, LOL, but it's tricky because of all the drinking. I don't know it it makes him feel any differently than I do about my food choices, but we go early which is nice for this bedtime 👵🏻 anyway.
There is an Argentinian restaurant in our new neighborhood that is supposed to be fantastic and we're going there; J has church services to play Sunday anyway, so early is good.

now i get the toots reference!
i didn't make any plans for night time but during the day we'll be hanging out with my friend and her little girls. i am a night owl so i'll be up past midnight as per usual but likely just having a coke zero since i have a new years day party to attend at a mansion in the hills (boss's boss has invited a bunch of us over) and will be indulging in a lot of booze at that time instead.

Hubby and I will be going to another couple's house---a tradition that we've been doing for 20+ years (We bought champagne glasses in 2000 that we use but we were going there before that.) We always drive to their place (about a half an hour away) because they are afraid of 'drunk drivers'. We seldom see any bad drivers but we've driven through fog, drizzle, freezing rain, ice and light snow. As yet we've never been snowed out!
She cooks a lovely dinner--we bring junk food. After midnight the junk goes in the trash and the diet begins! Last year was the first year in a long time I stuck with it for more than a few weeks.

We will be home. Having appetizers and sushi. DD's friends will be here to hang out and probably a big sleepover since I don't want anyone out driving on amateur night!

We were supposed to go to a neighbor's annual party, but they had a pipe burst and a flood a couple of days before Christmas. They are camping out at a Residence Inn for the next couple of months so the party was cancelled. We'll be staying home and probably watching movies.

I have never been a NYE party person - the amateurs get on my last nerve. My parents are having my brother and SIL and me over for dinner tonight and I will probably be hone in bed with a book by midnight.
Cristi, I've never actually had black eyed peas but that recipe looks really good - I may give it a try. Thanks!

Enjoy your tradition Cristi.
Tonight I am cooking for my sister and a dear friend who will stay over. Fortunately her being here will keep Charlie calm during fireworks, which I am sure I will sleep through. LOL
I am serving filet mignon with caramelized onions and roasted mushrooms, spiral sweet and white mashed potato (very small portion), grilled French green beans, 2 pt. garlic roll, wedge salad with Bolthouse blue cheese dressing and 1 tbs. crumbled bacon, good local Sangiovese wine.

Susiq, your menu is amazing. What time should I be there? 😜
Haven't been out New Years Eve since I was a young whipper snapper and I didn't like it then either. It always felt so forced, you simply must have a good time. I will however indulge in a shot of small batch bourbon & enjoy my filet mignon. I'll be in my jammies & im sure I won't last till midnight.

For those that think they don't like black eye peas, try this dip recipe. It's cold and a little spicy. I serve it with tortilla chips. It's yummy!
Texas Caviar
Servings: 4-8
Ingredients:
1 can (drained) Black-eyed Peas
1 Diced Tomato
2 Diced Chives or green onions 1 tsp Fresh Minced Garlic
1/4 cup Diced Bell Peppers (green) I prefer red 1/4 cup Cilantro My family omits this 1/4 cup Pace Picante Sauce or more Ground Pepper (to taste)
Table Salt (to taste)
Instructions:
Chop all of your tomatoes and green onions. Dice cilantro and bell peppers finely. Combine in large bowl. Drain the peas and add them to the veggies. Combine the spices, mix, and refrigerate. It gets better the next day. I make it early.

I did forget to say that I do like the traditions of being with family & old friends on NYE, it's just the big parties I can't stand.

If I'm still awake, I might kick off the new year with a 5 minute yoga/meditation session to intentionally ground myself for the new year. I'm in the mood for a little woo. Otherwise, I'll be tucked up trying to keep my 5 year old asleep and my dog chill. My local NYE celebration is 2-3 blocks away and I'm sure there will be noise.

RiverKat: I LOVE that idea! What a great way to start the new year...if I'm still awake.
