We are walkers, joggers, bicyclists, and some do other exercise. We set goals and keep track by miles. You can set your goal for any amount, count your miles any way you wish. The goal is consistency with exercise.
We started Jan. 20, 2003 on the WW Challenge Central Board as "250 Miles by June 1" & we've done 35 five-month walking challenges, including the one we finished Oct 1, 2016.
The group challenge is to average about 2 miles a day, 13 miles a week, or 50 miles a month; if you do it, in 5 months you will have walked 250 miles, and if you have stuck with the challenge and a healthy eating program for that 5 months, you will see wonderful changes in your health, fitness, and size!
Some people will finish well before the target date & will go for more or another 250 miles, but others will go at a slower pace, and new members will join along the way, so each member is welcome to set her/his own personal goal and target date. The new group challenge which started Oct 1, 2016, is "250 Miles by March 1, 2017."

Good Morning and Happy New Year!!
I hope everyone had a great weekend and enjoyed the NY festivities. We did not do much here. We went out for any early dinner as it was our Anniversary. We spent the rest of the evening watching TV. I went to bed at 10:30 pm. It has been a few years since I actually made it to midnight. Been in a big funk with my exercise lately. I think all the extra carbs from the junk that I have been eating is the culprit. I will exercise today and try and make healthier choices.
Cait: Great job with your miles. Thanks for the encouragement.
Nancy: Great job with all those miles on the treadmill. Enjoy your new Fitbit once it comes.
Amy: Hope all is well.
Yetta and Velda: Great to see you posting. Missed ya.
Waving to all. Happy walking and sending skinny vibes too.

Good morning. I use a fitbit to track my steps, is there a formula you use to change steps into distance?

Oh! I found a website that will convert it if you put in your steps. It is convertunits.com/from/steps/to/miles so I would like to join your challenge and I will use that.
My name is Ruth, I live in NJ with my husband and dog. I have been on ww way too long. I usually do assorted workouts. Some get a lot of steps and some don't (yoga)
1.6/250 miles as of Jan 1. Boy I really did nothing yesterday!!!

Happy New Year!
All was quiet for my Mim, Gumbo and me. I made it to midnight but watched movies instead of the festivities on TV.
I started the new year with a healthy breakfast and lunch but fell off the wagon by dinner time. I did 5.4 miles on the stationary bike and 1.5 mikes while watching a recorded show. I was short of my 12k step goal by less than 300 steps and for me, that was a successful day.
Kelly, thanks for the welcome back. I missed being here and it is showing in my weight. WTG on choosing exercise and healthy choices for today. We can do this, one day st a time.
Welcome RUTHINNJ! Do you use the Fitbit app on your phone? It shows how many mikes your steps equate to. You can also see the info when you scroll through the screens on your device.
Waving at all who follow. Have a great day.

Good afternoon,
Kelly hope you get back to your excerise routine, you do so well. You are probably right about the carbs. At least you have a plan.
Welcome Ruth, a little excerise is better than none!
Velda good job on your bike ride. Your eating plan will get better. I find when I exercise everything seems to fall into place. My days just go better.
I walked the TM three miles this morning and rode stationary bike five miles (24) minutes this afternoon. So I got my four miles today, maybe I will catch up.
Have a good evening.
Nancy

Good Afternoon Walkers!
Only exercise yesterday was 20 mins marching in place while the coffee dripped & I read = 1 mi. At least I did that! The rest of the day I vegged out. I overate New Years Eve on chips & trail mix :-( & stayed up late watching TV so I was very tired yesterday. I overate on chips after lunch yesterday, but then I stopped, yay! I finished the day yesterday in my orange zone of pts, not great, but way better than going higher. Today I'm on track and aiming for my green zone of pts. I always feel so much better mentally when I eat healthy.
But I had a pretty good month and year - 62 miles for the month of December, & 740.4 miles for the year. So far 177.8 miles for this challenge. I enjoyed this NY Times article about a "Gut Makeover" - I've read that the gut microbiome is a key factor in health, weight control, cravings, even mental health. www.nytimes.com/2016/12/29/well/eat/a-gut-makeover-for-the-new-year.html
Also enjoyed this one about doing a month without sugar: www.nytimes.com/2016/12/30/opinion/a-month-without-sugar.html?ribbon-ad-idx=4&src=trending&module=Ribbon&version=context®ion=Header&action=click&contentCollection=Trending&pgtype=article
WELCOME RUTH! I use 20 mins of other exercise to = 1 mile. I always remind myself to just do SOMETHING. Every little bit counts & helps. It's so great to have you with us! My DH is originally from Western NJ & he still has family there & we go there once or twice a year. I'm in CA - I travel between North State CA in the forest near the OR border, and Long Beach Southern CA where I am right now, where my family is, including our DGDs. I used to walk outdoors with DH every day but have kind of settled into marching in place a lot while we watch TV. At least I'm moving!
NANCY - GFY with adding the exercise bike. My experience agrees with yours that the exercise helps me get back to healthy eating. Actually whichever one I can grab hold of helps me get back on track with the other! But sometimes the best I can do is the exercise.
KELLY - You'll get your mojo back. Sometimes it takes me baby steps. But I'm sure you're right about the food affecting your exercise motivation. When I feel bloated and sluggish from eating the wrong food or too much food I don't feel like doing much of anything
VELDA - I know only too well that syndrome of starting the day well, making vows, and then falling into the old habits later in the day. Willpower only takes me so far. I've read that we get into a willpower deficit by the end of the day. Fatigue is part of it. So making new habits helps because the new habits will carry me where willpower won't. Also, the spiritual part of OA & the 12 steps is to rely on God to take us where we can't go just on our own willpower, even with support and a great plan. {{hugs}} We can do this. One day at a time. Waving at everyone! Have a great day!
Cait
250/168/150 160.7 is my first 10% goal
WW lifetime 11/4/2003 (Lifetime goal 169; in range)
Overeaters Anonymous since 3/5/2008
My Healthy Habits: - Stick to my Plan of Eating. Aim for green zone of pts 37 or fewer; only occasionally go into higher zones, & never over 67 - Pray & meditate, read, share (12 step work) - Exercise - Work during work hours - No eating after planned evening snack of about 4 pts - JGTB around 10 pm but not later than around 11 pm

Good Morning!!
I finally got in a 3 mile DVD last night. Eating was ok as I got into some of the cookies that were leftover. I wasn't even hungry. Mindless eating. I always leave my Christmas decorations up til at least January 6th. The snowmen decorations stay up usually through February.

Hi to all,
Kelly glad you had a better day yesterday.
Amy I am glad you have transportation to your gym. I like to get my walk in early also. But I ride the bike in the afternoon.
Ruth a new baby sounds so exciting. I have five grandchildren, three in Rochester NY and two live next door to me, they are so much fun.
I walked three miles this morning and rode the bike this afternoon, so four miles. Like Amy I write my miles on the calendar .

Good Morning!!
I finally had a good WW day. No candy, cookies, or snack mix. I got in my water and added a 2 mile WATP. Finally did my totals for the Challenge so far. Totals are the worse I have had in a very long time. 182.5 as of yesterday for my exercise miles. Fitbit readings 315.41. December was the lowest miles I have ever had.
Ruth: Hanover, PA is north of MD. I am located between York, PA and Gettysburg PA.
Yetta: Good job on the exercise. You most likely can request a new password.
Velda: Good luck on the New Beginning. 2017 will be the year.
Nancy: Great job on your miles.
Cait: Sounds like a nice day. Glad you were able to stop with the chips.
Waving to all. Happy Walking!!
