Hi! Quick post, about to be picked up by a friend to go to an art museum. Have been wanting to go for years. She is a recent empty nester, it will be fun! Yesterday I volunteered in the morning, gym in the afternoon. Jojo, so glad that your DS and family are ok. Joan, I'll find a link for you for the scallion pancakes. Holly, hope you're feeling better. BBL!

JoAnne, I have not ever baked the ahi--just grilled it before but with sesame seeds that caused them to burn because you have to have the grill very hot. Searing it works to toast the seeds and cook the outer edges still leaving the inside rare--I even seared the edges of the steaks so the slices looked coated and seared all around and the inside still rare. Read about it on line. The dipping sauce/dressing for it was delicious---DH ate his with rice and veggies and said the sauce even was delicious on his rice which he usually only uses soy sauce on.

Hi all,
I have a feeling this infection has been around for awhile. The antibiotics kicked in pretty quickly, thank goodness. My heart rate was up. Thankfully it is back to normal now. There's been a lot of strange sicknesses going around at work. I guess that comes with working in a public space.
JoJo, glad to hear that they are ok. These storms are just unreal.
Sue, enjoy your outing.
Joan, I've never really been a fan of tuna, but I've only had tuna salad. Does it have less of a fishy taste when it's grilled?

Holly, I never ate it until two years ago when in Hawaii----and then I ate it four times because it was so good. First time was on a Caesar salad believe it or not. So to me it has no fishy taste at all---when you sear the outside and leave the inside rare it is so tender and does not even resemble tunafish in taste at all. The only way to get thatt taste is to cook is more to where it is no longer pink--and then I don't like it. However, I do like canned tuna packed in water for a sandwich.
It requires some flavor--because it is rather bland without a dipping sauce or a good marinade. I love the sesame seed crust------you rub the steaks with sesame oil and then coat with the seeds...

Booked flights today to Cancun for Jan 20 to 27--will have AAA book the all inclusive hotel tomorrow as we want their insurance... We will be staying about 24 mi south of Cancun.
So terrified for all of Florida and so sad to see the destruction in the Caribbean!

Hi! Busy day yesterday, annual physical in the morning, then in the afternoon had to go to the catering company with my passport for them to do a homeland security check. Wow, was not expecting that, wondering if that is something all companies must do now? Joan, this is link to scallion pancake recipe www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2011/04/extra-flaky-scallion-pancakes-recipe.htmlI do not do the roll a second time, it takes longer and the one time I did it, my dough got too soft. I might try it again some day though. Did Sharyl have to leave her house? I hope your friends in FL are ok, I can't believe Irma and now 2 more after that gaining strength. Are you going to Cancun with friends or family or just you and DH? Jojo, I love rare tuna. It has to be absolutely fresh. Holly, tuna fish in cans is nothing like rare fresh tuna. So it looks like I'm starting work next week. I capping it a 20 hours.

So Joan, the sauce is for dipping not as a glaze on the tuna?
I am huricane ready. Cleared all the furniture aand flowers in pots and "things" off the patios and the porches. Did leave my heavvy table on the deck and some of the furniture on the front porch. Turned the tables upside down and stacked chairs on the porch and moved them against the wall. Even took up my new accent LED lights around the landscaping (don't want to loose them in the wind. More afraid of the wind bringing down trees around our house that rain or flooding. hopefully by the time it reaches us, the storm will have settled down some, but they just don't know.
Glad you are feeling a little better Holly.
Sue - have fun with the job. Will your hours depend on the job or will you be on a schedule?
Joan - your trip to Cancun sounds fabulous! How exciting that you are going.
As far as I can tell, Sharyl did not have to evacuate. They seem to have gotten the fire somewhat under control.

JoAnne, are your chairs heavy enough? I'd be worried they would be thrown into a window...
I really think our cruise BF's made a huge mistake flying down to FLA--and my cousin and her husband will be underwater if the storm surge is as high as predicted---the are inland but only a bit---I cannot imagine. Now the governor is calling for everyone to get out if they can---and the drawings and projections look as tho the center of storm goes right up the state meaning whole state involved. JoAnne, I hope you did all that work for nothing!!
Sue, I would think 20 hrs a week would be perfect to get you out and feel connected and not overwhelm you with stress! Will be anxious to hear all about it.
Holly, I hope NC is free of the hurricane issues---sounds as tho SC may suffer---I have a former classmate there and she lives out right near the ocean but she promised she would not delay and would get out. Am going to call her today.
Booked the all inclusive hotel today at AAA---DH had to leave for an audiology appt. so I walked from there to gym--about 1.3 miles---also walked this morning at 6:30--it was so beautiful out---somewhat humid but cloudy and mid 70's and a slight breeze so it was wonderful walking! So I have my 10,000 for today---first day I have reached that in long time. Also did zumba and weights. Thinking I will get DH to go out for dinner somewhere---I had the leftover of my sesame crusted tuna on Asian slaw last night---it was so good. Made a salmon filet for DH---he only ate half so I have half left for me to have for lunch tomorrow.
This morning. I was back to my low for two days in a row---so am hoping with all the walking today thatt I can go down to a new low---am only a few tenths away from free WW weigh in---will not do that tho until I am down about 3 more pounds. My goal is to get down about where I was after the first two years of WW---that was about 134--that may take another six months because I am losing this very gradually---but I don't feel restricted so am really like what I am doing. My goal is to make this weight by early next year---I am so psyched about doing this without meetings and really managing it myself. My workouts have changed my posture and walking so much--I am constantly noticing the terrible posture of people my age now. I only wish I could get DH to do some learning and activity that would change his before it gets worse.

JoAnne, All that was on the tuna was sesame oil rubbed over surfaces and then coated in sesame seeds... Dipping sauce for. Dipping or dressing if eating the tuna over arugula thinly sliced.
Earthquake scenes are devastating!

Hi all,
We're just supposed to get some rain and wind, nothing major.
It feels like we're just constantly bombarded with bad news all the time. Part of that is from having constant access to news all the time. Since helping people access information is my job, it just feels like information overload.
Sue, hope you enjoy your new job.
Joan, yes, it is expected to hit much more of Florida than they originally thought. I hope your friends will be ok.
JoJo, I hope Atlanta doesn't get hit too hard.

Yes, my chairs on the deck are heavy. I have moved all the others inside the garage. May end up moving the others in too. I told DH that the scenario could be that it all passes us by and that I have the patio cleaned off to powerwash and the porches to clean and paint! Yes, it seems it is one disaster after another. The hurricanes, the fires, the earthquake!
Today had 2 memorial services and a retirement breakfast!
Tomorrow should be ok through the afternoon, then I guess we will just have to wait and see if we have a storm.
Have finished all my crochet projects for now. Have made so many tops this summer that my closet is overflowing.

The house and garage are full of all the things off my porches, patios, and decks. They are saying even here we may haave 75mph winds! I just pray that the trees, especially the ones close to our bedrooms do not topal, break, or uproot We have so many. Right now it is the calm before the storm! Just beautiful!
I have been emptying my ice into bags in the freezer in case we have a power outage. Also bought a power storer for my phone that hold 2 charges. DH has one too. Still have to collect the flashlights and windup/battery radios (have 2). Our power lines are underground but we have had them go out with torrential rain when the ground gets overly saterated(they had to replace the lines) and of course the transformers are still exposed.
Can't believe that there are still people in those highrise condos on the beach! Church this morning. It is my day to help with the children's program during church.

Hi!
I've been watching the news. Can't believe how bad it is already with a crane broken in Miami and the worst of the storm is yet to come.
Jojo, I hope it won't get bad where you are.
SO has many ex-partners who have retired in Naples.
Joan, you are doing so great with all your exercise and weight loss! Keep up the good work!
My sister does a thing with tuna where she slices it very thin, like tartare, then pours hot sesame/olive oil over it so it cooks it a bit, then sprinkle with soy sauce/miso/grated ginger sauce, scatter with scallions
Holly, I agree all I ever see on the news anymore is bad news.
Well it looks like I'm not starting next week after all, they don't need me during the week and I didin't want to work on the weekend.

Sue, that sounds like a really simple way to fix the tuna. Might have to try that.
Walked this morning and it was only 72 out---so beautiful! DH actually went with me --first walk he has taken in a month.
I saw a graph that showed when the surface wind is 130 that the wind up higher hitting the building further up is like 150 to 179--something relative to that---I cannot even imagine.
I think Naples and Ft Myers and St Pete/TAMPA are in serious danger.
I am going to bake banana bread (bananas overrunning my freezer) and some zuchinni brownies (for book club Thurs) and buy the groceries for book club meal as well. Have a busy week and DH is going to go to DSPark Ranger's in Ely, NV, to help change out sprinkler valves. DS by the way is doing really well---full work schedule---lucky to be young and fit when it comes to injuries like that.
Breakfast was 1/4 small avocado smashed on toast with poached egg on top---yum! No dinner ideas popping in my head yet unfortunately.

Hoping you are doing okay JoAnne! Cruise BFs in Deland FL are still without power but no damage. Cousin has power but brand new roof lost some tiles---reparable though. So awful to see devastation in keys and Naples and Jacksonville.
Heading to gym in a minute for pilates and yoga---then home to marathon read---made it halfway through the book and now mad at self because it is getting really quite good---hoping I get to finish! Tonight doing a restorative yoga class at home of my Wed. Yoga teacher--taking DD with me so she can meet her---trying to introduce her to some new people.
