I used to go into NYC to Smokey Mary's every now and then... I think Kathy might know to which church I refer... LOL, oh yes, I do. Jeremy's idea of a good church is being knocked over by the incense when we walk in! That's one of his current perks. I've got a vivid memory of taking a deeeep inhale to sing... just as the thurible swung by... <koff><Koff><KOFF>...

Wow missed a lot of talk today. zazzles I agree that you never know about something until you mention it. I have a vitrial (vitrieous) detachment in my eye which causes flashing and floaters. There is nothing that can be done but at first occurrance I had to be careful due to the possibility of it causing a retinal issue. I too have issues with the floaters. It started over a year and a half ago in one eye and then I have it in the other. There is not treatment or prevention but it is darned annoying. It causes light sensitivity at times and I driving at night is a pain due to both issues. They lessen and go away eventually for the most part.
I too never really have known how common such issues are so it was interesting to see all of the feedback here. As a friend just said to me yesterday, "Getting older ain't for sissies."

Right there with you Beth. My detachment caused a tear, then surgery, then the whole thing "crinkled". Ugh! Another surgery. Then cataract surgery but it cannot be made clear. The right eye isn't "crinkled" (telephone poles look like wavy lines) but that one has the big blobby floater. ***PSA*** to all you "youngsters"... if you ever notice flashing lights in the corners of your eyes and/or a spray of black dot or spider floaters---Get thee to an emergency room (preferably at an eye hospital) ASAP!! Might just be the vitrieous separating ( a normal aging process) but it can cause retinal tears and detachments.

They had me in the doc's office in their earliest appointment. The good news is that it wasn't' retinal. It is very important to get it checked asap. Who knew? Sorry you had your issues. It is something you never see coming. No pun intended.

antgnat ,Happy Birthday and WTG on the loss to start off your birthday.
ksbruns ,I doubt your Dr is behind the times.I still haven't found out if I'm even a candidate for the injections no matter how many they are plus my NP said from the looks of my x-ray the cortisone shot wouldn't help. Becky, I've taken cortisone shots a couple of years and they have been a huge help for me (although when my knee did the *classic* knee kick with one, that was a rough recovery!) However, I haven't had one since April and the last few months have been really ragged. It took about 3 weeks to get the injections settled with insurance (bah) and with the move, I'm now definitely ready for some kind of action. Good luck!

After the second trip to Europe this year, I actually was thinking about it, it just felt like I couldn't keep on nursing myself so...but then I had my colonoscopy and spent w a y to long laying on the cart before the procedure. It brought back a lot of memories when I was sick and I just thought NO!, so I'm back in postponing if I can. My ortho doc told me I would probably want to have the surgery in the next few years, due to being so *young and active*....HA, flatterer! but I know he's right, it does affect my life. My mother broke her hip when she was 68 and I saw how she stayed home more and more and her worlds got smaller and smaller; I need to remember that; we'll see how the shots do, I think they are the last gasp.

The service lasted almost two hours, those *high* Episcopalians know how to have a good time....you would have loved the music, really stunning.
