I treated myself to this at my meeting on Saturday. I for one have noticed a big improvement in WW magazine since Oprah came on board, particularly with the recipes. When my receptionist told me about the "bundle" I went for it. I wasn't going to purchase the book, but when she showed me I had to have it.
Very happy with it. The photography is beautiful and each chapter is prefaced by a two page spread of vegetable art. I love vegetable art and vintage fruit crate art, it must be the gardener in me.
Most of the recipes look quite doable, and I like that they use natural, easily obtained ingredients (well, 90% of the time). Some specify specific dried chilies, but anyone can sub chili powder if that's all you have. There is a lovely section on soups which includes recipes for chicken stock and vegetable stock, and some really delicious sounding soups. There are chapters for ethnic foods, greens, main dishes, and sprinkled throughout are dessert and beverage recipes. Oprah starts each chapter with a little blurb about her personal weight gain and loss journey and so far, all have been enjoyable (to me).
Even the heft of the book and paper stock are nice. There are some surprises - for example, a couple of recipes that show the full fat and calorie versions and then a more plan friendly version (southern fried chicken and oven fried chicken come to mind - also two smothered chicken recipes, the real deal and the skinny deal). I guess she is saying what the heck, sometimes you need a treat and just want to know the SP value. The only exception is three or four recipes calling for truffles or truffle flour - um, not around here. I've never bumped into either ingredient and the one time we tried truffle oil we both gagged. Other than that - it's a rave.

Thanks for the review! Sounds like they did really well on it except for the whole missing the mark by not including NI, that is definitely a WW first.

Yes, I was a bit disappointed by the lack of NI. The calories and SPs are given for each recipe, but we all know WW is always upgrading the program and we need those macros to calculate any future renditions of "the point."

I had it in my hand at Target but didn't have my gift card. Disappointed in the desert recipes, almost none! I know that I eat too much sugar but was hoping for some fancy desert for company. NatureLover, what was your bundle deal?

NatureLover , what was your bundle deal? I got the book, current WW magazine, box of baked snacks, tote bag, and the booklet "Meal Planning 101" - it was thirty some odd dollars.

Thanks for the review. I picked up the bundle at my meeting but haven't had a chance to spend time with it.

Our leader mentioned today that the copy of the book sold in meetings is a special “WW edition,” but didn’t give us any info on what makes it different; my guess is that she didn’t know.
I reviewed the book with a Kindle preview as well as at Costco last week when it came out, and noticed the lack of full NI immediately.
Being diabetic and on insulin, a lack of NI that gives carb, fiber and sugar is a non-starter for me. Yes, I could use various resources to figure it out for a recipe, but that’s what I’m paying the author/publisher to do for me.
And I was rather shocked by the missing NI since WW has NEVER been associated with a cookbook that did not have the NI included in it. If this is their new publication plan for meeting-room cookbooks, then sales are going to be minus at least one copy—the one I usually buy.

The tomato soup recipe is 3 SP per serving and I thought it was a good idea that when they are not in season the tomatoes are roasted to bring out a fuller flavor. There are several recipes I will try. I enjoy reading the beginning of each chapter.

Lack of NI is definitely a dealbreaker for me.

Thanks for the review. I put myself on the waiting list at the library. I'm in the process of unloading cook books. The last thing I need is to drag one more in.

I truly don't understand about the lack of NI in this book, particularly seeing as SmartPoints is all about keeping up with current nutritional recommendations set by the FDA. It is a real head scratcher - ??

There are 2 recipes for truffle tortelloni. The first is 12 points per serving and the second has 11. One point less isn't reduced enough for me. It is a great recipe but more time consuming. The asparagus with morels and mint pesto is 9 per serving and inspired by Chef Jean-George's Vongerichten All three are ones I would order but not prepare.of the 3 desserts not counting sorbet, one has 13 SP.
None of my really good cookbooks have NI but I've been able to figure out recipe points and determine if they have too much fat or sugar.

Thanks for the review. I'd been planning to buy next week at my meeting. I've changed my mind after learning that the nutrition info is not included.
