Good morning! Meg, so good to see you here! You are so kind, making booties for your friend at Knit wits. What did Devin's class do on his field trip?l San Francisco is such a pretty city., or at least it was a long time ago when I was there. My kids have been there recently and they say its still nice. Enjoy the pretty weather- you have waited through a long hot summer for this.
Ruth - my Dh loves peanut butter cookies....And I am glad you are getting a lot of housework done. (Now can you help me with mine?)
Well, I had slept poorly 2 nights ago and then ended up getting to sleep early last night. Working as many hours as I did tired me out. Looks like Dd and I are heading to hobby lobby Saturday. I might get to check out some fabric.
Have a great day!~ G

All free crochet just put up a cute pattern for hair scrunchies! Of course they would use up small amounts of yarn, and i thought of Ruth and all the wonderful gifts she makes for family.

Good morning Ginny and all who come in later and all who read.
I've never been to SF. I've been to the LA area but that's it for Ca. My dh spent time in SF years and years ago.
Woke to snow today. Yesterday was over 70 and it was still 59 at midnight but early this morning it started raining and getting colder and now we have about 3 inches of snow.
Cable guy will be here about 1 to fix whatever the problem is although we didn't have a problem connected yesterday but their test did show signal problem.
I'll crochet most of today. Dh always stays with the repair people to ask questions and help if needed...finding them a ladder, etc so they don't have to go out and get theirs. I don't think this guy will need one though. I would think he will just put in a new modem.
I'll be looking forward to that scrunchy pattern, Ginny. My dgds in Indiana all have longer hair. Only problem i have with scrunchies is that they are made over the elastic thin bands and I've found lately that it's hard to find the nice ones. They seem to sell only the ones that are hard to stretch. I'm going to check the dollar store next time I'm out. The dgd that is going to turn 11 soon really loves hair things.
Ok I'll see you all later. Have a great day.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - It's nice to hear that Devin had fun on his field trip, reminds me of the field trips I went on. I'm sure you enjoyed looking through those patterns, glad you found one you liked. Ginny - I'm glad you got some sleep, hopefully you'll sleep well the rest of the week too. Hope you find some pretty fabrics when you go shopping. Ruth - Sounds like you've been busy in the house. I hope the repairman fixes your problem. Snow!! How strange to have mild weather and then snow the next day. Phyl - Hope you are feeling well. I'm doing alright and it's another pretty day here, but cooler. I went out earlier and did a bunch of shopping. I went in Michael's and saw that Caron Yarns is naming their skeins with bakery items (like Sweet Rolls), like fabric has done with their Jelly Rolls and Layer Cakes. You all have probably already seen this, but it was new for me. Take care everyone!

CJ, good to see you. Yes the repair tech was here and replaced the modem which is what I thought it would be. We had to replace it one other time too. Luckily it's covered so no charge. He was a nice guy and liked my dh's desk chair he made from a seat from our mini van.He also made sure to put the booties on his feet and we told him it wasn't necessary but he said it was company policy and that he had to do it. So now we've had the tv people out and the cable people out so everything should be good until spring.
CJ, yes the Caron company started the whole cake thing with their cakes sold exclusively at Michael's then the other yarn companies followed suit and have their own cakes named after various baked goods and most of the colors have food names too. I got some of the Premier yarn company's cakes and yesterday got some from another company in mini cakes...they should have called those cupcakes. They are a #3 yarn which some of the cowl patterns call for but I thought they would also make good baby blankets. I love how the various colors turn out.
So I did some crocheting while the repairman was here and will keep crocheting the rest of the day probably although I should reorganize my craft room so that I can set up my ironing board. I put a lot of my yarn in there yesterday so it would be out of the way but it's in the way of placing the ironing board.
I also baked a squash and sweet potato while he was here and had half the squash for breakfast after he left. I had baked the peanut butter cookies that I mixed yesterday before the repairman came this morning and dh had those for his breakfast.

Hi everyone, I just picked Devin up from school. It is hot here this afternoon, in themed 80s. It will cool down this evening. When Devin went to San Francisco he went to the Science Museum. I haven't been to SF for years even though it is only 120 miles away. The traffic there is horrible. I do like to the coast just north of SF and used to go there quite a lot to Point Reyes.
I had trouble with my Nook yesterday so I didn't work on my afghan last evening. I like to listen to an audio book while I work. I will take my nook to the library tomorrow when I go to Knit Wits. It is just the audio books that I am having a problem with. They have people at the library who can help with the different audio devices. I will try and work on my afghan this evening.
Ginny, as far as I know SF is still a beautiful city but I just don't want to deal with the traffic. I haven't been there for years. Have fun at Hobby Lobby. They have a lot of great yarn and all sorts of merchant dice to tempt you. I don't have any little girls that could use scrunchies. When I picked Devin up from school today when he got in the car his hair was all blue.
Ruth, I am sure your DGDs will love the scrunchies you make for them and yes it a great way to use small balls of yarn. I think it is easier to make things for girls than boys. I had to smile at your DH having peanut butter cookies Way to GO. He is a true peanut butter lover. BTW, I like them too.
cj, I hadn't noticed that Caron was naming their yarns after bakery items. Sounds interesting. I think I have some Caron yarn in my stash so I will have to decide what to make with it. the trouble with having a stash is that it needs to be used up before I can allow myself to buy the new yarns. I would love to buy some of the new yarns but I have too much yarn in my stash.
Devin wants the computer. He was banned for several weeks and he is allowed to use it again.
I will check back later.
Phyl, I hope all is well with you.

Meg, I usually make the peanut butter cookies with oatmeal but this time he wanted just peanut butter. It has a lot of sugar but otherwise it would be like eating toast and pb for breakfast. He makes rules for "healthy" foods...peanut butter is protein so pb cookies are healthy. If they had oatmeal they would be even more healthy because oatmeal helps lower cholesterol. His carrot cake is healthy because it has veggies..the carrots, and healthy fruits ..pineapple and rains and it has walnuts which are also healthy. I tell him my ice cream is healthy because it's dairy...has milk or cream. Kind of like the crafting rules for this group
Meg, your Russian friend is going to be thrilled that you made her slippers.I hope the library people can fix the problem with your Nook.
I do remember that Devin was on "time out" from using the computer. Now it's back to sharing. I'm glad we finally got more than one computer. Best thing that every happened was when ds put in wifi for us. As soon as dh heard ds was going to do that he told me to buy myself a tablet then after we actually had the wifi I bought a laptop and he bought a new desktop so now we each have one and then the tablet just in case.
I've been crocheting and am just taking another break to see of you came in Meg or Phyl. I like to check throughout the day so that I see all the messages.
I'll stop back later

Good evening!!
CJ-well how kooky is that, shopping for yarn and finding yourself getting hungry cause all the yarn names are cakes and cookies!! Congrats on getting out to Michaels- are they your favorite craft store or do you prefer Joanns?
Meg, how well I remember the days when we had to take the computer away from Ds....no it was not a fun time at all. That stinks that your weather got hot. wow, 120 miles seems a long way for a school trip-but for a good science museum, its worth it. Did they stay overnight? And I hate city traffic and will not drive in NYC. Do not blame you one bit for not wanting to drive in SF.
Ruth, well I am on the IPAD- and its impossible to send links (or at least I do not know how to do that) so I forwarded the email to you that has the scrunchie instructions. Of course there are other patterns in that email also. Please let me know if the email does not provide the link. I can straighten that out this weekend.
I sure do like Ruth's husbands dietary rules-with that logic, chocolate cream pie is good for you becasue it has dairy in it and chocolate has health benefits! (Yum).
Think I am going to go read a bit. Hope everyone has a great evening Ginny

Ginny, the email for the scrunchie didn't come thru right so I looked up what I thought might be a way to find the pattern and I saw some chain scrunchies that are nice. Is that the pattern you were talking about. It's a great one and you could sure use up a lot of little scraps making that one.I just need to get some of the bands that don't have the metal thing. The ones with metal break fast.Thank you for sending that and the other email.

Well dinner is over and I intend going to bed early tonight. I did not sleep well last night .I was still awake at
5 a.m. and then I did go to sleep and did not get up until about 11 a.m. I have been tired all day. I usually sleep quite well. So I may or I may not work on the afghan tonight.
Ginny you said I always feel a little bit guilty leaving an old thread behind... perhaps we could have a monthly thread like the conservative thread......what do you all think? I don't care either way. Two 4th grade classes went on the trip to SF. They left as soon as they got to school in a caravan of cars driven by parents. The school district will not pay for school buses to take them on field trips. The car Devin was in arrived back at 3 45 p.m. so it was a little longer than the usual school day. But I think it was a good educational trip for the kids.
Ruth, I like your idea of peanut butter breakfast cookies. You had snow and today the high here was 88. I have a tablet that Devin uses but he wants the desk top.
cj, the one big field trip I remember was a day trip to Scotland. Scotland is not that far from the Antrim coast in N. Ireland. We took the train to Larne and crossed by boat to Stranrar(?) I have forgotten how to spell the name of the port we visited. It was a fun day. A high school hosted us for the day. We had them visit us at a later date.
I wish you all a good night. Sleep well.

Good afternoon
WWorked a full morning.....now have to get ready to go back.
Meg- I kind of like the weekly format but wil agree to do whatever everyone else wants to do. I dislike threads when they get too long. But really I am not fussy.
Ruth later on I will send the actual link for the scrunchies. Sorry it did not come through.
Got a few minutes of hooking in last night!

I actually like the weekly thread because I don't like to have to have too many pages. We usually end up with 4 for the week so I think weekly is best but I, too, will go along with whatever is decided. I don't think the conservative thread has many pages even after a month. We'd have a lot more.
I almost finished my second cowl yesterday. I have about five rows to go so will definitely finish it today.I have a confession to make...the "mistake" in the pattern was me after all. I read that pattern at least 8 times probably more but where is says sk next stitch 2dc in next stitch, I kept seeing as sk next 2 stitches. Well you are only to skip one so I didn't need to add the chain. I did do it skipping two and making a chain though and, of course it turned out so it's fine but I don't know why I read things and see them as something they aren't.I read it over again last night and it finally registered correctly. I'll definitely me making another and making it as the pattern says but I do like the way this one looks. I don't know if the one with the v stitches so close will look as nice so it's probably good that I made that mistake. I'll do a swatch, which I never do, to see how it is without skipping two.
Ginny, I know you've come to the place where you're able to do some things between morning and afternoon driving. In my case I'd probably waste all that time. When I worked afternoon shift I was never able to get much done before going to work. I admire your ability to use your time wisely.God gave us all the same amount of time. I'm sure, as with other things, He doesn't want us to waste it. Relaxing and enjoying things is not wasting it but too much of anything is not good and there's way to much relaxing going on in my life.I've been reading a lot lately on doing for others so I need to step up my actions in that.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today
Meg - I hope you get your Nook fixed, so you can listen to your books while you craft. Hope you're not feeling as tired today.
Ruth - I'm glad they were able to replace the modem, we really almost can't live with the Internet in today's world. I'm glad the cowls are coming along.
Ginny - I'm glad to hear you got some crafting in last night, I hope the afternoon run goes well.
Phyl - Hope you're feeling well.
Living near Washington, D.C., a lot of fields I took while in school were history related. Besides going to DC, we also went to Monticello in Charlottesville VA and Gettysburg in PA.
It's a beautiful sunny day here and my lawn service guys were here today. That's probably the last time they'll need to mow my lawn this year. Now that I've lost weight I could do it myself (even though I have a very large yard), but I don't have the equipment to do it anymore and don't want to have the worry of maintenance for the mowers. So I'm happy to have a good service.
I don't know if any of you watched the show on PBS called "Home Fires". It's about a village in England during WWII and the Women's Institute there, as well as the women members. They had 2 seasons and then cancelled the show. The guy who wrote the book the show was based on issued 4 small books to finish off the story, and I've been reading them. I'm almost finished book 3 and then have one left. It is nice to get to find out how the story ends, even if I can't watch it on TV.
Take care everyone!

CJ, years and years ago I took my youngest brother and my sister to DC and we had a great time, We also went to Valley Forge and other historical sites around the DC and Va area and we went to Gettysburg in Pa.
Seems like whenever they have a really good program on tv they end up cancelling. I'm glad you got the books so you could continue reading about what you were not able to see on tv.
If my dh and my dear neighbor were no longer around I'd get a yard service too. I actually have a riding mower but like you, wouldn't want to worry about upkeep. We have very bad luck with mowers. I mentioned my neighbor becauses he's often mowed our yard. He likes to keep busy

Good evening!
CJ- well while mowing the lawn is good exercise, I think having the lawn service (especially becasue they are reliable) is a good idea. My mom lived in northern NJ- and I well remember her doctor telling her that cutting the grass could be too hot for her- and stress her system. Think she had a lawn service do her lawn for about 20 years. She ended up getting her activity by gardening in her yard and other outdoor projects. Living near DC, well the summers are hot there and if you can afford it, I think its a good idea to leave that work to the lawn service. Sounds like Home Fires might be a good series to add to my reading list. And that stinks that its no longer going to be broadcast on TV. My Dh and I watched a show on AMC called Turn- based upon the Revolutionary war. What a shame when that series ended
Ruth- well don't beat yourself up over the cowl pattern! The baby afghan pattern i am using calls for 2 double crochets and then a single- and depending upon how you read the pattern it can be interpreted as the 2 DC in one stitch or one DC in each of the next 2 stitches. The designer has had many questions asking for clarification on this and its very obvious that we all read things differently- and sometimes interpret things in our own way. Do you have any specific plans to "do for others" or an organization that you would like to help out with?
Dd is home, so I have been chatting with her all evening. Its so nice having her home. Yup, we are planning on going to Hobby Lobby tomorrow. Breaks my heart just thinking about it, ha ha ha
Meg, hope you got to knit wits today!
Phyl- is that computer fixed yet?
Have a great night Ginny
