This is a monthly thread for those of us who have a lot of weight to lose. The definition of “a lot” is something that is determined personally, so everyone who feels they have a lot of weight to lose is welcome to post here.
Please join us in offering support, checking in for accountability, help with questions, etc. We’re in this for the long haul.
We’d also love to hear from those of you who are maintaining a large loss. We need those tips to help us to keep the weight off once we lose it.

Good morning and Happy New Year!
cj59, wow 25,000 steps a day is a lot. My goal is 10K a day and sometimes that is hard to meet.
I am so ready to make 2018 a good year. Thanks for the friendship and support here.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone who posts and follows our thread
Hi sunrose - I'm ready for 2018 to be a good year too and I appreciate your support and friendship too
About half way through December I realized I was crazy to set a step goal like that, but I'm stubborn and wanted to finish what I'd started. I was so happy to see yesterday over with I think my goal for January is going to be 18,000 a day or maybe 15,000. I've found that setting these goals make me get up and move, instead of sitting so much.
I had my weigh-in today and it wasn't good. I really gained a lot of weight in December. This showed me (even though I already knew it), that I can never just quit watching what I eat and eat whatever I want. I will gain the weight back if I do. I'm not ever going to be someone who can naturally eat right, so I have to learn to live with that.
I'm hoping to have a strong month (and year) and get back below my goal weight again and learn to work at maintaining my loss.
I don't make resolutions, but I do want to make some changes to my food plan this year. I'm going to try to start with reducing the sugar I've been eating and also adding in some healthy oils each week. I rarely add oil to anything anymore and I think I need to get more of it in my diet. And I know I've been eating too much sugar, so hopefully I can cut back on that. I also want to track my zero foods, which I don't always do.
Wishing everyone a happy and successful weight loss year!

Good morning
cj59, you are off to a good start in 2018 with what you wrote. I too cannot just eat and not worry about what I am putting in my mouth. Your new step goal is a good one! I would be hard pressed for 25K a day.
Waving to all
I did a 3 mile WATP yesterday. I will do the same today. I also plan to get veggies in. cj59, I too need to work on the oils. I've never wanted to spend points on it.

Hi sunrose - Sounds like you're getting in your exercise, I'm sure it feels good to do it. I had some vegetables at lunch today - your challenge was such a good one I need to remember to try for some vegetables at lunchtime. For the 2 years I was losing weight I rarely added the healthy oils - because I didn't want to use the points, so I understand. I'm trying to just add at least half of the healthy oil requirements each day. I did that yesterday and plan to do it again today. I had some soup at lunch today and can't believe how many points are in soup. This was Progresso Tomato Basil. For the whole can it's 6 original points and 12 Smart Points! If I was on Smart Points, I'd probably never have soup. I did eat half of it, because I didn't want to use 6 points for it. There are some soups that I can get that only have 2 points, so I try to eat those when I want soup. I'm trying weighing in each day in January. I usually only weigh once a week, because I can get obsessive about seeing a loss and then maybe overeat if I see a gain. I want to get used to seeing how my body weight fluctuates, so hopefully this will help. I've already lost some of the weight I gained over the holiday - I'm sure there was some fluid retention. Hope everyone else checking in is doing well on their plan

Good morning
cj59, the other book I downloaded is called "Friends with the Scale" How to turn your scale into a powerful weight loss tool. I haven't started that yet. I have weighed myself every day for probably 40+ years. Good for you getting in the veggies. I was going to have a salad yesterday with chicken on it, but I didn't.
I met my goal step again yesterday by doing a 4 mile WATP dvd and outside for a quick walk with my dog. Will do the same today.
Waving to all

Hi sunrose - I'm glad you are able to get your exercise in. Thanks for the information on the other book too. I've tried weighing in each day a few times and it messed with my mind But I need to look at it another way - as just a measure of what's happening with my body. I notice that I have wild weight swings up and down, not just small ones like some people. So I want to get used to that. I'm doing well and sticking to my food plan. I've been limiting my use of weekly points until I lose the weight I put on over the holidays. Hopefully I can stick with this and get back where I was. Hope everyone else is doing well on their plans

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well and sticking to your plans Just checking in for the day and staying on track. I had some Progresso 99% FF Chicken Noodle Soup today and added in some extra canned sliced carrots. I found this was a good way to bulk up the soup. I've been thinking about what I have to do to lose weight and keep weight off and I've realized that I'll probably never get to live my life not thinking about food for most of the day. I had hoped after losing the weight I'd be able to more naturally eat and not think about every food I have each day, but I've found that I really have to almost constantly think about food - especially on days when I'm home all day. It makes me remember why I would always quit after I lost a lot of weight. I just get tired of all the constant tracking and thoughts and planning, but I know if I want to keep the weight off that this is likely the reality of my future.

Good morning
Sorry for being MIA yesterday
cj59, I said something to a WW Leader once "why do we have to keep doing this" and she said something on the line of that is the way it has to be for the rest of your life. I don't know. I'm with you on thinking about food. I know I just have to keep it in check. I just wish I could lose 5 lbs. Oh well all I can do is keep trying.
I was kind of lazy with my steps yesterday. I'll do better today. Oh cj59 I had a salad with lunch the other day ;-) It was really good. I don't know why I don't eat them more often.

Brr it's freezing cold here this morning. My kids got an extra 3 days of school off, because of the low temps. I am hanging in there and I am down 2 lbs this morning. I seem to be averaging 6-5 lb per month, which is fine by me. My new goal is 210, since that will be 20% for me. I still have my long term goals in place, but the short term goals really help to keep me focus on now. sunrose49 , good job with still getting in those veggies. cj59 , I too struggle with thinking about food lot, especially in the winter when I am stuck in the house more. I have come to terms with that I will need to weigh, measure, and track for the rest of my life. Every time I have lost the weight and stopped I always gain it back.

Hello Everyone sunrose - Hang in there, I'm sure you can lose the 5 pounds. Good for you eating a vegetable at lunch, I've been doing that more too thanks to your challenge leesa - I agree with you about having to weigh, measure and track for the rest of my life, I gain back weight every time I stop too. Congratulations on the continued weight loss, I hope you make it to your 20% soon. I've been doing pretty well. I went grocery shopping today and only bought one high point/calorie food. I still plenty of weekly points to use since I was trying not to use them, so I used some for this food. Now if I can make it through the weekend O.K., I'll have had a full on track week. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hi everyone! @sunrose Good point with the salad. I love salads with egg and olives in them which would be super easy to make at home and I never do. That’s just laziness on my part. cj59 Great job staying on track! I bought a splurge food this week too. I had two, and I am over it, so away they go. I’m very impressed with your positivity regarding the rest of your life stuff. At this point in my journey, the thought makes me panic and sabotage myself. leesa Go for that 20%! I’m close to 210 too! I’m hoping to see it in another week or two. Stay warm! I am FINALLY back on track. I have been struggling. Up and down the same 5-10 lbs. So glad to be staying within my points and seeing the scale go the right way. (And it’s not as difficult as I made it out to be)

Hello Everyone - Hope you are enjoying the weekend sunrose - Congratulations on getting in your steps and eating vegetables at lunch. irisinnia - I'm glad to hear you are back on track, hope you continue and the scale keeps coming down. I'm doing well today. I wrote out my food plan for the day this morning and I'm sticking to it. I had some vegetables at lunch too. If I can make it through tomorrow, I'll have been back on track for a full week. Hopefully I can continue this through the month. I'm weighing below goal again, but I want to be several more pounds below goal for a buffer. It makes me anxious to weigh too close to my goal - and please know that I set my goal at the high end exactly to be realistic about what weight I could maintain for the future.

I loosened up a little today after my morning WI, but I am going to an evening meeting on Monday, two days later, so I'm going to reign it in tomorrow. Lot's of tasty, low point foods on the menu! Yum!! cj59 Great work getting back on track! And thank you for posting. It's good to see someone who is at goal who has success but also has struggles. I think we imagine that we'll just be blissfully thin one day and eat whatever we want, but it's a great reminder that these tools are for life and practice makes - well, not perfect, but much improved.
