Anyone is welcome to join the SMART weight loss goals.
Specific Measurable Actionable Realistic Time limited
You can pick as many or as few goals as you like. They can be daily, weekly or monthly. It's up to each individual. Keep us posted on how you're doing w/ the goals and how/if it's showing up on the scale!
AND if you aren't into goals... now or ever... no big deal. Friendship, accountability and support... they don't HAVE to have goals.
Lastly if you have goals that aren't related to weight loss, that works too. Like "making me time".

WOW so many Yoga pants and sweats. I don't own either and never have. I do have a sweat shirt! And a sweat shirt hoodie so does that count As long as it's cool/cold, 99% of the time around the house I'm in my jeans. Either Levis or if I want a little dressier look, Not Your Daughter's Jeans. Of course in the summer, it's either capris or longer shorts (never into short shorts). But like most of y'all, flip flops are my omnipresent footwear. SANDY I have a feeling the anti-oxidant diet is very foreign in concept to Dale. No dairy and no grains. So I think addressing it and providing info is all you can do until he's OK with it. But as he sees himself being less and less active, and hurting more and more, maybe something will click to the point that he'll try anything. In the meantime you could sort of subtly transition to low inflammatory meals. I mean lately I And it would be good for you too (good for any of us) b/c you do wind up losing weight. It's VERY VERY similar to the low FODMAP diet. Not easy but do-able. But nothing you can literally or figuratively shove down anyone's throat. I know when my gut was at its worst, I'd have tried eating (or not eating) anything and the difference has been remarkable. If you recall, it was more like DAILY I complained about stomach pains, waking up in agony, not being able to be far from the bathroom. Now that's RARE instead of the norm for me. But for a long time the thought of low FODMAP... well I kind of played w/ it but didn't want to commit. Once my doctor told me I needed to do it or see a colo-rectal surgeon, I felt I had no choice. NOT easy and the thought of no onions and garlic was scary to me. I ALSO know it's kind of a MAN THING. If I told Bob to avoid certain foods for his GI issues, he'd totally ignore me. But if the DOCTOR told him, that's a whole different ball of wax. And for whatever reason, getting most doctors to address DIET is so hard. Sure they'll say to LOSE WEIGHT but most of them won't even consider diet to fix other things ( maybe obesity and heart disease.) But most other things, they'd rather give you a PILL. So even though my GI doc is a WEIRDO, I was grateful that he suggested diet. I slept OK. No eating after midnite: I don't actually remember. Close if not actually before 12. 6,500 steps: CHECK 5 F&V: wow come to think of it... NOT unless pickles count!! LOL I had 3 of those!!

Celeste....like you said, an anti inflammatory diet would probably benefit all of us. I know nothing about what that really means....have had no reason to be better educated about it...
Becky....I forgot to answer your question yesterday. I worked as a nurse for 25 yrs ..2 as a staff nurse in the operating room, 12 as a nursing instructor (classroom & clinical in the OR/surgical)โ and 11 as a school nurse. When I was a school nurse, the school district thought about contracting with an outside agency for nursing services...with no concern or guarantee that the current nurses would still have jobs. It was a very stressful time. It was not approved the first time, but a couple of years later the idea was raised again. That was when I decided to go back to school to get my teaching certification. Crazy time....ds was in high school, dd in middle school. I worked full time & took classes in the evenings. It took me a year, then I took a leave of absence from my school nurse job so I could do my student teaching. I finished that school year as a nurse, then got a teaching job the next year. I did keep my nursing license current even when I was teaching since I was always on the emergency response team in my school....but I will not renew it again...Iโm done!
Had hoped to get a mani/ pedi today, but they are swamped with prom customers. Iโll go on Monday instead. I would like to take a break from the gel nail powder or polish....but my nails are so darn thin. Iโm worried they are going to split or tear without the polish....even though I take a supplement that is to help with nail health. Minor problem in the grand scheme of things.
Went to the gym this morning...looking for some motivation now to do something productive...

HI! CELESTE I made a big salad of romaine, diced chicken, hb eggs, diced celery & green pepper, feta - but you know what made it pop? Everything but the bagel seasoning. Who would have thought on salads??
LOL on the surprise posts JT!
SANDY I hope that Dale will think about making some dietary changes โ for at least a try. It may help, and certainly canโt hurt.
So true on diet changes and doctors.
ANGIE I thought it must be coming up on prom timeโฆ.Iโve been seeing people taking pictures in all sorts of places. I was out walking with Lu Thursday and someone had pulled a great looking GTO into a field and they were taking what looked like prom pics. Or maybe they were school picsโฆof course our school pics were only ever taken in the gym or auditorium with backdrop. Much more fancy and creative now.
BECKY what kind of work did you retire from?
I ended up doing well on my goals yesterdayโฆand then slept 8 solid hours. Boy did that feel good!
Anyone have exciting plans for the weekend? Not I โ and I guess itโs supposed to rain Saturday afternoon, so thatโs a bust for outside work (but itโs not like I donโt have enough to do inside!) I do need to sort out and organize my tool box - and of course knowing me, that will take priority over vacuuming, lol.
Enjoy the day - BBL

If you live in TX you simply cannot own too many pairs of flip flops but it's even too cool in the house today for mine.
Sandy I agree on the no rain part.We have a lot of grass right now but the cattle also need feed.
Celeste I own sweat pants and wear them in the winter but in the summer I wear jeans or shorts.I don't even own yoga pants. No dairy would be a foreign concept to me.BTW your pickles with peanut butter would have given me nightmares.I love PB but not with pickles.
Wow Angie I can't imagine going back to school with a full time job and kids.I don't blame you for not wanting to renew your license. You desire a happy life of retirement.Good for you going to the gym.
Suze I sometimes even use Everything But the Bagel seasoning on my scrambled eggs.I have used it in my salads and yes it does taste good but my favorite is Trader Joe's chili lime seasoning on everything.I retired from the TX Department of Public Safety in Austin.I had completely forgotten I had left my retirement funds in when I first went on the state disability.I later went back to work at a different place & gave up my state disability.I worked 5 years at a 3rd party insurance company and had to take SS disability. One day a couple of months before I turned 60 I got a letter from the state employee's retirement system saying if I would sign the paperwork when I turned 60 I would receive my retirement. If we had been able to wait one more month financially I would be on the state's insurance and have a much better plan and not have to pay anything. In a little over 1 year when I turn 65 I can go on their insurance and on my 66th birthday my disability will simply turn into regular SS.Working for the state has great benefits but I didn't like DPS and the state is really a training ground for public jobs.In other words the pay is not that good until you leave the state and actually work for some non government job at least at that time.
I guess since it's gotten warmer I will go for a walk.I did my 20 min on the bike this morning and since I don't know if it will rain all day tomorrow I want to get in a walk today.

BECKY that's interesting and true about state jobs. I am hanging on here until I reach 10 years and qualify for insurance benefits for retirement. I will get TRS, but won't get the benefits of full retirement since I didn't start work at the university until 6 years ago. It's a good place to work though, aside from lower pay than the corporate world. I did that the first 30 or so years, made much more money and was much more stressed. But it's all good and wouldn't change anything.

I'm going to be the unpopular one......I hate flip flops! I have a pair of sketchers sandals I wear in the summer, but no flip-flops. Most sandals wear blisters on my tender tootsies (as do most dress shoes), so I'm usually in tennis shoes. I do like mules, but need to be careful what they are made of to avoid those dreaded blisters!
Am happy to report that the gal I worked with last night stayed till 11pm. I was shocked! And the computer downtime only lasted 2 hours instead of the scheduled 4. It was actually a fairly easy night. Killer was that about 5am I was so sleepy I was nodding off! Came home and realized my back door key was gone. The clip it was attached to must have broken off. It had come loose the day before, but I reattached it and thought it was ok. DH had a spare, so I already have a replacement.
Slept like a log today, but still feel like I could use a nap. Unfortunately, it's time to head to work.
Yesterday I got my steps, but was way over on dailies. Did have weeklies to cover. Today I did ok on food until I got home from work.
Need to hit the the grocery store in the morning on my way home. We are out of everything. Hate to shop before coming home. Messes up my sleep schedule.

ANGIE, for me and lots of others on various support groups I participated in, the hardest part of the FODMAP/anti-inflammatory was doing w/o onions and garlic. Dairy and grains were tough but there are adequate and readily available substitutes. I started cooking w/ Asafatida powder which is a reasonable sub for taste. There are ways around MOST of our old favorites that use less inflammatory foods but it AIN'T EASY. Also I think the RA diet excludes nightshades. Now MOST people can live easily w/o eggplant and even mushrooms... but tomatoes and peppers? That's tougher. Esp. here in Texas home of SALSA, Tex Mex, and horrible eating!!
GASP OMG YES on prom!! I was going to get a mani/pedi today but the day just got away from me. Glad I didn't bother. But yeah I had to grow out my nails after I got rid of the gel polish and it took months. I had to keep them VERY short, b/c as you said they were like paper. But now I can pull nails out of boards w/ my natural nails. (of course pool season ruins them).
SUZE I had spinach today and put the EBtB seasonings and really liked it. It's very versatile. Good on baked taters too. And you eat FETA but not blue cheese??? HUH??? Also your job/life satisfaction is so evident with your current job compared to the hospital job. That's something you cannot put a dollar sign on.
BECKY it can be snowing out and if I know I'm not going anywhere??? FLIP FLOPS it is!! And yes on gov't jobs. Maybe the upfront salary isn't great but if you can hang in there long enough, the bennies are great. Oh and chili w/ lime on corn (canned, frozen or esp on the cob) is my favorite thing. Also on melon. All melons.
haha on CONNIE and her tender tootsies. I HATE tennies and only wear them like if I'm going to do a lot of walking on vacation or trying to get a lot of steps in. I even subbed good sandals for tennies when I did the teeny tiny track.
The odd combo of the Thai Curry Carrot Soup along w/ (shiratake) spaghetti and meatballs was surprisingly DE-LISH. The shiratake are better for stir fry but still a great sub for spaghetti and angel hair.
I need to do some steps> Maybe later Bob can walk w/ me around the neighborhood. So for that I need my tennies. Later y'all.

Connie It's odd b/c I never wore flip flops until last summer.I could never stand anything between my toes but I found some I like and now around the house I will just wear the 99 cent ones from Walmart but I have worn my better ones on a 1 1/2 mile walk for cancer last year and they never hurt once.I'm glad work wasn't near as bad as you thought it might be last night.
Celeste I never did omit dairy or grains on the low FODMAP diet. For a long time I couldn't add blackberries back in but lately the raspberries at HEB look so crappy I have been buying only blackberries and they are cheaper too and I've had no problems eating them with ff plain Greek yogurt twice a day.I hope it stays that way.In fact I didn't eliminate a lot of the food I should have.I did eliminate apples but now I can eat them without any problem. In fact lately there hasn't been much I can't eat without a problem.I think my body is tired of being on a diet.Okay lifestyle change or whatever the heck they are calling it now.I have never tried the EBtB seasoning on baked potatoes and I had one tonight.I will have to try it tomorrow night.
I haven't tried chili lime on fruits but it goes on everything else.We even season the pork chops with it before grilling on the Foreman.I need new sneakers bad. When I do my normal walk it's just over 4000 steps and while I like the support of the flip flops since my feet were bruised I wear my Sketchers and it almost looks like the top of my right foot is swollen and I think it's b/c of the sneakers.I guess after payday next week I need to go to Academy in Bastrop to see what I can find.I need to go to Best Buy also for a new adapter for my modem wire.I found out it's not the internet it's the adapter cord that keeps knocking out my posts. You just reminded me.I need to get 250 more steps.I only do it 7/7 hours and this is my last hour. What brand tennies do you like?

BECKY, when I saw my GI doc and he put me on the diet, he was especially all about most grains except corn, oats and quinoa. I don't like quinoa, but did eat corn (I also don't like oatmeal so no oats for me). On dairy he suggested almond milk, almond yogurt and I was allowed up to a couple ounces of hard cheese. NO ricotta or cottage cheese though. I've found that cottage cheese now is OK in limited amounts and I haven't had cow milk in ages except as cheese or yogurt. I don't know if a glass of milk would do me in or not but I avoid it.
The first time I had chili con limon (chili w/ lime) was probably about 30 years ago on Mexican street corn and chunks of watermelon when I was in Mexico. So I found Tajin in a Mexican market (now Kroger carries it) and it's the same as TJ's. I also like it on mangos and it's the only way cantaloupe will EVER find it's way into my mouth. But it was originally marketed for F&V's. Now I don't like it on apples or bananas. But I don't like apples or bananas anyway!!
Bob and I took a leisurely walk around the neighborhood and picked at all the gardens as to what we liked and didn't. Lovely temp. Just light jacket weather.

Hello all. We are in winter coats still. There was ice this morning anywhere that was still wet from yesterday's rain.
No flip flops for me. I hate anything between my toes and I need support for my feet. I wear slippers in the house. My feet are usually cold.
Celeste, I sent my email to you.
I'm planning on taking 2 Tylenol PMs tonight in hopes of sleeping all night. I have been exhausted all week. One of the things I am missing is not being able to knit. This is my relaxation before bed. Okay, happy Saturday. Night.

Talked to ex and dss, too funny dss sent me a pic of a postrr at the airport. Not only is transporting guns, knives, gas..etc. prohibited, so is transporting pickles! Say whaaat?

Celeste I do drink unsweetened almond milk but I don't think I have seen almond yogurt unless it's the Silk brand and IIRC it had lots of carbs.I bet chili lime is good on cantaloupe.I buy small containers of pineapple sometimes but it seems the only time I eat cantaloupe is at the buffet. My favorite is honeydew melon if I had my choice of melons though.HEB has a seasoning called Julio's and it's meant for f&v also but we also use it on eggs and meat.It does have more sodium than I would like but we just put every spice we have on our food before cooking it doesn't make that much of a difference.
I hope you sleep better tonight JT.
Suze I wish I could walk Scooter but she jerks her leash out of Kenneth's hand so I know she would just take off running and who knows when she would come back or where she would go.That's why I enjoyed her friend walking with me but I haven't seen him in quite a few days now.If I were to get in 250 more steps I would be right at 15K but I'm satisfied with what I have I believe.I'll save some for tomorrow when I may need them if it's too wet to walk.Oh Celeste probably shouldn't fly anytime soon or we may have to bail her out of jail for transporting pickles.Lol on that poster.
Hit all my goals today since i'm not doing No S.
G'night ladies.
