I watched the video. I'm definitely in awe. I love the fabric and the ending large square square but I'm not too fond of the choice of border fabric though. I think it kind of takes away from the squares in the middle. It's beautiful though.

Good evening,
Well one of the nice things about living in this congested and at times frustrating NY metro area is some of the attractions. We live in a somewhat rural county- in a town that has a large rural area. The zoo we visited is in the county of NJ that I grew up in- its a small but very well kept and run zoo. A phenominal zoo to start kids out in. For me, its always fun to go back there, I went there as a child. Now living in the county that Dh grew up in- we are surrounded by things and places that he grew up with- even the newspaper we get brings back memories for- he frequently knows people listed in the obituaries, this was a very small county when he was a child. Needless to say, I cannot share experiences like that with him- so going back to where I grew up for the zoo is very nice for me.
It rained a tiny bit on the way down but once we got there, was cloudy but fine. It was a very warm day, too hot for sweaters or bonnets.... All in all we had a really nice time and it was fun to spend the day with Dd#1 and her children.
Yes, I did elect to take off the entire day. I realized that it was the best way for me to just get it all done and involve the least hassle. I still managed to get my beds changed and the laundry done, most of it before we left for the zoo.
Its warm here but in the low 70’s. I am on the deck with a lovely breeze....so peaceful listening to the peepers and the few birds that are chirping yet. Obviously, I got no crafting in today....oh wait, perhaps I did!! I stopped in at the quiilt shop to see if the sewing machine I ordered came in- and it did!!!! I did not have time to pay for it and will go back tomorrow to get it. She is having a fabric sale.....which I will have to check out.
Ruth, well that is too bad that you had to rip out the birds of a feather glove- but it does sound as though it was a necessary thing to do. So now you are back to fg- who will get this next pair?
Meg, CJ and Phyl- hope that you had a wonderful day. Sorry, I am tired - got up at the normal time and did a whole lot of running around.
Have a great night Ginny

Well one thing about this area, it's not where either dh or I grew up. in fact neither of us had ever been in this state untill we moved here. I have to say I wasn't very impressed. This is not the most beautiful part of the state. The people here are very nice though.
Yes living in a more populated area has some advantages such as a zoo and being on a route where things are delivered in a timely manner such as fresh fruit and veggies. Mostly I just like the fact that even though I always think there's too much traffic here its not even close to that back in western NY and I like that there's not a lot of people.
Yes I was thinking earlier that it would maybe be too hot for you Ginny, and esp too hot for bonnets and sweaters. It got up to 75 here today at least but, again, no humidity. That's always nice for staying more comfortable with high temps but it's murder on skin.
The gloves I made this morning are for the dgd that the birds gloves were intended for. They were fingerless also. Now I'm having a problem with this new pair in that the directions for the cuff are just not working out so I'm going to do them my way which is the way they are made for every other pattern with the post stitch cuffs. I tried this person's way but it just doesn't work.I'm not even close to the part of the gloves that looks challenging yet but I hope it works because it's pretty and cute and if it works I want to make some smaller for the younger girls too. They're a butterfly stitch glove.

I changed the whole cuff and made it a ribbed cuff instead of the post stitch one. The rest of the glove is just so much fun to do!!! I'm so excited about how it looks and how it came out. I'll post a link to the picture but I do think mine looks better with the ribbed cuff. It sound complicated but it's truly so easy. I may have to make one of these for each dgd because I'm pretty sure when they see this one, everyone will want one.I'm definitely making one more to give the dgd just older than the one these are intended for. I'm sure they'll all share but in a family of 8 children its nice to have something that's just your very own. Three years ago I made a really cute purse and a crochet crown for the dgd that was then 6 (purse had a pocket on the front with a little toy inside it) and her mother told me that she kept those two things with her all the time so that "no one younger would get their hands on them" Otherwise they are very good at sharing. suzies-yarnie-stuff.blogspot.com/2009/09/suzies-butterfly-mitts-c.html

Nice to sleep in this am.....yesterday I had to get up at normal time so I could call in sick.
Ruth the gloves are adorable! I love the way it appears as though there are many stitch changes in them- a slight ribbing on the end by the fingers and the beautiful butterfly pattern on the back of the hand. What color are you working these in??Gee, how do you find such cute patterns? Glad you had decent weather. Hard to believe that you were talking about snow not too long ago.
Not sure what is on tap for today. Dh and I both want to get to Loews for some garden items. I should probably be out there now working on the garden and just have no inspiration to do so. THe weather changed last night and right now its very cool and comfortable. True spring like weather. Much better than yesterday.

Good morning everyone. I hope you all are going to do something you enjoy today
Ginny, I thought about yard work for today but I think I'm just going to stay inside. We don't have a Loew's here but do have a Menard's which is about the same and also have a HOme Depot and another store of the type that's owned locally. I really don't like going to them. At least Menard's does have a couple interesting things besides home and garden stuff.
The way I find the glove patterns is because I spend hours looking at patterns.I get involved in doing that and end up spending way too much time. Yesterday I was looking again for little dino patterns. I found a lot of other patterns in the process. Still got two pairs of gloves done though. And yes, for that butterfly all you do is make a long chain in each of two consecutive rows, then next row you make a dc in the middle of the two chains into a stitch below and "voila" a butterfly. I found another that will be cute for the youngest grandaughter. On the edge of each hand you make a half heart. Then when the person holds their hands together a while heart appears, so of course you could make that on any glove not just their pattern.I know she'll like that.So not sure what ones I'll make today.Maybe more butterfly ones and I'll try a different kind of cuff..more like just a bracelet and I have some Red Heart with love metallic yarn that will be nice made into these. And I will make some of the butterfly ones for the donating pile too as they would still be nice and warm. I was even thinking in the night of how I could make the butterflies themselves smaller
I'm glad you got to sleep in. Hopefully you'll feel more rested. I hope you find some fun things at Loew's.Menard's sells large bags of the candy spearmint leaves...those gummy ones. Nowhere else around here sells them so when we go there I always get some as I love them. Dh is talking about going there soon. Not that I need to be eating pure sugar but, as I said, I really like them and don't get them often.

Hello Crafters
Ginny - I'm glad you had a nice time yesterday and were able to go back to the area where you grew up. I'm glad you took the whole day off too.
I'm still living where I grew up and it's been bittersweet to watch the area go downhill and so many places from my childhood go away.
Ruth - Those gloves are cute, I love the purple yarn. The ones that form the heart sound nice too. I think a little girl would probably love those.
Meg and Phyl - Hope you are doing well today.
I found a link to another website where the quilter made the on point quilt almost the same as the one I posted yesterday. But her version is a bit easier. She makes two small quilt tops and then cuts both of them on the diagonal and then joins the 4 pieces together. I'll post the link below. I also went to her website at Cascadequilts.com and she has some neat things posted there. I then spent about 45 minutes clicking on other websites linked to hers. That's how quick we can spend an hour on the Internet

www.cascadequilts.com/
I have two Charm Packs and I think I'm going to try her method and make the small quilt top.
The weather is so much nicer today, back in the 70s. I've opened the windows and I'm hoping to get some of the heat out of the house - it had gotten into the mid-80s inside the house.
Take care everyone!

that's my problem too CJ. I got to one pattern site checking on one pattern and end up looking at all the free patterns there, then see a link to another. It's esp bad on Pinterest because every pattern you click on has a bunch of other patterns shown below it so you could spend days there without even going anywhere else online.
Now I'm going to go check out those two links you posted. Quilting is so amazing.

Good evening!! Ruth- well those spearmint leaves are what we used to call “green things”-and they were a staple in the summer for my family. On our vacations in the adirondacks each summer we would, of course spend 4 hours driving there from north jersey.,Not sure how we got started on the spearmint leaves but we always had them. In honor of my mom....who passed away 3 years this month, I think you ought to go to Menards and buy some! I think the half heart glove pattern sounds adorable and so appropriate for a young child. You find the coolest stuff. Speaking of cool CJ those easier instructions for an onpoint quilt are great!!! I love the look and might just take that one on. Which does mean I have to buy more fabric. Oh the shame of it all! . So glad things cooled down where you live and I hope you were able to air out the house. That is a problem- watching where we grew up change and most of the time its not for the better. Dh has that problem here too- this county was extremely rural when we moved here and now its considered a commute from NYC and many are moving here. This county has changed plenty. Where I grew up was suburban then- and not much could change as most everything was built up already. But I know its hard to watch. Bet you are excited knowing that your roof will be repaired soon!! And thanks for finding that onpoint quilt pattern. Its a keeper Well, today was busy. Got to Lowes, and got pretty much what I needed to get. We also stopped at Dd’s- stayed there for a few minutes while Dh did a minor repair for her. Then home...got some gardening done and then bought and planted two shrubs which I hope grow very quickly to block out my creepy neighbor. Dh was shocked that I got them out of the car and in the ground myself. Of course he had to readjust them... and the one hole I did not quite dig deep enough but it all turned out fine. I might go back for one more shrub....probably Monday. Oh! I picked up my friends sewing machine- so will wrap that in the next couple of days. Her bday is Thursday- cannot wait to give it to her! Hi to Phyl and Meg- and I hope everyone is having a great weekend. G

It always seemed to take forever to get to the adirondacks but it really wasn't all that far. I guess because you could only take the Thruway just so far and the rest was all small roads. My tradition there was to have constant Comment tea. Now I don't even like it.
Ginny whenever I go to Menard's next I will sure be getting the spearmint leaves and will be thinking of your mother.
I know it's going to be a terrible hardship to have to buy more fabric. My condolences. Just like me buying more yarn yesterday and today. They make that much too easy with online purchasing. I don't imagine you buy fabric online though although the charm packs probably would be something that would be ok to buy online. I worked on my craft cave today and told myself I really needed to use up more...then I went and bought more but couldn't resist. I have an online thing called Honey...have any of you used that...anyway if you have something in your waiting list for your Amazon cart this Honey will let you know if the price of your items has dropped and some yarn did today by over $5 so, of course I couldn't pass that up. It's pretty much yarn for children's items so will be great for making my mittens for the church.
I love the quilt videos too and have been thinking of trying one. It would be a great break from crocheting.
Have a wonderful evening everyone.

Happy Sunday!
Quiet morning here so far, Ds is at work - and Dh and Dd are sleeping. Its just me and the cats for now. Cannot say it is quiet as the birds are out there chattering loudly. Thinking of making those 2 ingredient bagels for breakfast, but I will have to make my own self rising flour as I do not have enough for a full recipe. I should be able to find a recipe online for that.
You are totally correct about the Adirondacks, Ruth! Take the Thruway to get there and then spend a ton of time winding on some minor roads that seem to go nowhere to get to your final destination. They sure are pretty roads though and the mountains are spectacular. Sorry you lost your taste for Constant Comment tea. Do you still like Salada- I seem to remember that you used to like that also. And Missouri Star Quilting has tons of videos on Youtube, all using charm packs, which make for super easy quilting if you decide to do something different than crochetting.
Buying a sewing machine accounted for all my crafting yesterday....guess I will wrap it today. I did check out some fabric at the LQS that I bought the machine at, but she has a tiny inventory of fabric.
Ok gonna go find a recipe for self rising flour. Have a blessed Sunday all! Ginny

Good morning everyone.
Ginny, I never buy self rising flour. Just add 1 1/2t baking powder and 1/2 t salt to one cup of reg flour. I need to make the two ingredient dough too so will maybe have to make bagels. A friend emailed me to ask about boiling the bagels. She said a friend had told her that it's not really a bagel if you don't boil so I told her what CJ said and gave her a site address to look it up.I'm sure the bagels we have available here in our town are not boiled. We don't have any actual bakeries except for those located in the grocery stores. And we definitely don't have good donuts. I love the white cream filled donuts...not the pudding kind but the white fluffly stuff..with a nice cup of Salada or Red Rose tea.
I know you're happy to have the sewing machine in hand and ready to wrap and give your friend. She will be so happy to get that and have the shop to help with any questions.
I made two pairs of gloves yesterday.. a second one with the butterfly then a small dgs pair. Then I spent hours on the computer looking for an appropriate applique to crochet and put on them. Most of the patterns are too large but I'm going to try just using a thinner yarn and smaller hook. There's a little car applique that's cute. They actually have a lot of cute ones but some are just too much work. I have planned the two pairs of gloves I want to make today.
