Happy Wednesday!!
Ruth- is your pretty rose ok?? Hope so! I do nothing to care for mine, and somehow it manages to survive despite my lack of attention. Guess its a hardy specimen. And I hope those silver dollars sprout..... I have no idea what they need for germination, as they seem to thrive here. CJ- YAYAYAYAYAY!!!!! Hoping for a good report that the roof is done by later on today. If they are not ripping the old roof and have a large crew indeed it can be done in a day. Your jam sounds so nice.....bet it tastes good too!!
Hi to Meg and Phyl (praying for you!) G

Good morning Ginny and all who come in later. Yes it's still morning here but I guess I should be saying good afternoon the Ginny, CJ, and Phyl Ginny, I mostly neglect my rose too. The first year I had the bush I did protect it in the winter but the next year I didn't and it did fine and has done so each year since. But this year the poor little thing has only a few leaves near the bottom of the plant so I don't have a lot of confidence that it will survive. Maybe I should have put the silver dollar seed into the ground when you sent them. Maybe they like being in cold ground for the winter. Well I guess we'll find out.
CJ, I was going to ask if they are taking the old shingles off. If not that sure sounds like a lot of money for just putting on a new layer. One time I had a new layer put on but the next time I had the whole thing replaced.
Finished glove #2 of a pair I started a couple nights ago then started another pair and couldn't figure out what the pattern designer was talking about and although she said if there are questions ask them in the comment section, there was no comment section. After studying the picture of the gloves she posted I think I do know now what she meant. I did abandon that last night though and made one glove for another pair and did the second this morning. I definitely need to get all the ones I'm made recently and see exactly what I have. As you know I've been mentioning doing that for several days now and still haven't done it.
I probably will do a little yard work at some point today but right now am really going to look thru the gloves I've made. I need to do a pair of mittens today too.
Have a great day everyone. I woke up thinking it was Thurs and thinking about how fast this week has gone by. Can't keep my days straight.Tomorrow will be shopping day although we really don't need anything but it's about the only exercise dh gets
See you later

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today The roofers didn't show up today, I kind of had the feeling that was going to happen. I thought it was pretty strange to have an appointment for 1 PM. I have two layers of shingles on this house and they all need to be pulled off and new ones put on. I'll also probably need some ply board replaced. I called them about an hour or so after they weren't here and they said I'm scheduled for Friday now! I'm going to call them tomorrow to verify Friday's appointment and if they stand me up again I'm telling them I'm finding someone to install the shingles they delivered and that have been on my roof for almost 3 weeks. When I went to try to call them I realized I'm having trouble with my phones again, so now I'm working on trying to fix that. This poor old house is falling apart The weather is really pretty today and supposed to be O.K. through Saturday. Take care everyone!

CJ, those people sound just like my roofers. Of course my roof wasn't leaking so it wasn't a big problem for me but they had promised me April which I could see them not getting to me because it snowed a bit that April but they didn't get to me until July!! I finally really complained when I was out and saw them working on a roof a couple miles away. And I had my sil call them too because the roofer said he knew my sil. Finally got it done after that. Now these shingles are supposedly garanteed for 50 years. We'll see what happens if they don't last.Roof still leaks around the chimney. I need to see if I can get my dgs to come over and put tar around it before he moves to Montana.
I got one more pair of fingerless done today so that makes three gloves so far and I'm working on another pair now. That will be 30 pairs total. I did count them today but still really don't know how many I have of each of the kids' sizes.I know I have plenty for the two oldest girls and the "little guy" but not sure of sizes on the girls in between although I do have several sizes done. I made one pair in the 11 year old's favorite colors but it is just a tad loose on me so it will probably be too big for her so that's the ones I'm making now is a smaller version.
In case you wonder if I'm actually going to send all these, yes I am. They can pick the ones they want and take the rest to church and give them out to friends or anyone that needs gloves or donate them to a glove drive or something.

Good evening!
Ruth, I think its a great idea that you do send the whole lot of gloves....honestly, my kids needed several pair, and I always used to have them keep a spare pair in their backpack just in case. Your grandkids are home schooled, so they probably do not do the backpack thing....anyway, its always nice to have a spare pair- nice when friends come over or their gloves get wet. Of course donating to church is a grear idea also. Ruth I just did a light read on money plant, and learned they came over with the pilgrims! Anyway- there are no planting instructions. And they said its better to plant in the spring. Just scatter and cover with a light cover of soil. They prefer sun but will take some shade. As the article said, they do seem to come up wherever they like, once they grow. We must have 20 plants all over the place....most plants are flowering now. Gosh, I hope your seeds germinate!!!
CJ- most roofers will rip off the old roof if there are 2 layers of shingles, its common practice. And wow that STINKS that they have pushed you off, again. At least you know they will not be working on your roof tomorrow. So you can run errands or go out if you desire. It would not surprise me if you did need some plywood replaced.... I just. Hope that these jokers show up on Friday and get the job done. Is there rain in your forcast for the weekend? Hope not.
Sitting under the gazebo0 got a fire in the firepit and am listening to the birds chirping as the sun goes down. We have a little wren house, a friend gave it to me several years ago. I take it in every winter, and could not find it a few weeks ago when I wanted to put it up. Dh found it today- put it up and the wrens are in it already! I wonder if they come back..... if they remembered being here. So nice to listen to them at the end of the day. And much to Dh’s chagrin, the mockingbird is back. I laugh at the thing, it sings the most psychotic song.....that same wacky song irritates Dh, and I find it hysterical. Anyway, the mockingbird is back.....and just seranaded me for the evening.
Have a good night all Ginny

Ginny, yes I think they can keep at least three pairs each and maybe give some as gifts or the other suggestions I mentioned
I love seeing and listening to birds. I didn't know there were mockingbirds in NY. I never saw or heard any until I went to visit ds and his family in Texas when he was in the Army training at Shepherd AFB. Then there were some in Arkansas when we went there. I imagine wrens do return to the same place each year. I'm glad your dh found the wren house. My dh is also annoyed by things like that. He really didn't like the sound our cockateil made and my ds once had a guinea pig which loved my dh so would make a noise every time my dh came around it and dh really disliked that sound also. I have bad hearing now so can't hear birds very well anymore...which reminds me....oops I need to put out my hummingbird feeders.
It's now after 7 and it's bright and sunny. Too late to do anything outside because of the mosquitoes.
Get a good sleep everyone and CJ, do what Ginny suggested...go out and enjoy yourself and don't worry about the roof. Either they come or you call and tell them to forget the whole thing as you said earlier you were thinking of doing if they don't show up Friday. At least now that I've experienced delays and saw how stressful your delay was to you, if I ever have to have roof work done again I will definitely be telling them they will give me a set day and if they dont show up they''ll be off the job because my friend (you of course) and I have both had bad experiences with being put off. My sil also told me to never pay anything in advance. If they aren't willing to go along with that get someone else. He never makes his customers put down a deposit...although many times he would have liked to as he really didn't have the money to buy the specific paint they wanted. Luckily the place he buys his paint understands that. And he will use only what he considers the best. If his customers want cheapie paint he tells them to find someone else.He doesn't want his reputation ruined because of cheapie paint peeling off or fading.
I got one of the gloves of the latest pair done and will probably make the other tomorrow and do something else the rest of the evening. Not sure yet. I made up all today's gloves patterns myself

Good morning! Beautiful morning here, but its supposed to get hot. I am driving a trip later on.....thankfully my bus has airconditioning- which works ok.(its not super cool but better than nothing).
Thanks for the reminder Ruth that I need to put my hummingbird feeder out!!! They are so neat to watch- we only get the ruby throated hummers here...but again they are just so pretty. Little miracles each one. Now that mockingbird is hysterical. He used to sit atop our shed and scold my husband, as though he knew that he did not enjoy his psychotic singing. I guess I am just a very silly person.
Ok- got lots to do this am....and so will wish each of you a good day. I am looking forward to the weekend..... Ginny

HI CRAFTERS, yesterday delona and I met for lunch.she had to take mom to the dentist in the am. then went to the shrine of our lady of guadlupe. went into church and did some praying.
then we did the way of the cross and the rosary walk. these walks are outside. in one of the plaques where the cross has the cross bar was a birds nest.
it is so peaceful there. a farmer donated the land. we can see why it is mostly a wooded area.it would take a life time to clear it for farming.
today I did go to hobby lobby.got 11 bandanas. I would still need more.may take them back. else I will be going through alot of product 101.they are thin.think it takes 72 charm squares to make that quilt.then I would buy the fabric. won't be as many colors as I was thinking. oh well that is life in crafting.
quilters we always come up with these ideas.sometimes they pan out sometimes not.
no plans for the weekend.should have cleaned today. didn,t want to.
hannah will be done with school in 7 days.
a semi driver ran into a bus in milwaukee. 20 people hurt. another school bus. witness say he was driving eratic. so who knows why.probably on something.
choney what are your thoughts about seat belts on a bus. we have a retired friend who use to drive.years ago he was always against school buses having seat belts.phyl

We went to the grocery store today. I got back the money they overcharged us last week...AGAIN. I wasn't overcharged today so I'm thankful about that.It was beautiful while we were out and still if even though it may be a little hot outside. Im not going to do any yard work today.
Phyl, how nice to be in a restful place like that
Don't have much to say. I did get that second glove made last night after all and even got some weaving in of ends done
Oh and Phyl, I've often wondered why when they make such a big deal and even laws requiring seat belts in cars that they don't have them in school buses.

Good evening! I am back from the sports trip I drove, which was a little bit chaotic but a good trip. Weather was good and the coach and kids were nice. Back pretty early too...
Ruth, glad you got things straightened out with the store- and what they owed you refunded. Congrats on not getting any gardening done. I know you would rather crochet. Ha ha ha
Phyl- sounds like a very peaceful place to visit, a good place to restore ones soul. And yes, that is how we all craft- starting out with a great idea and then having to adapt/adjust to the availability of supplies. Nice to hear that you had a good day with Delona. Congrats to Hannah on almost being done with school.
Well, Phyl asked so I will answer. All school buses should have seat belts. I know its a huge expense to outfit all buses with them and an even greater expense to provide 3 point shoulder/lap belts- but well worth the potential savings in human life and injury. It makes no sense to me at all why someone would be against seat belts. My elementary route has over 50 students (53 is the actual count)- and my bus seats 65 kids (or 43 adults). During bad weather- I pretty much insist that all wear their seat belts. The law in NY is that buses must have them but its difficult to enforce that all passengers wear them. Again, in bad weather my kids know to wear them- They know its best. The rationale is the same with regard to why you wear them in a car- without a seat belt i a passenger becomes nothing more than a ping pong ball bouncing around the inside of a bus. Wearing the seat belt you are provided the full protection of the comparmentalized seating provided in a bus (that is how they describe the special seat design of a school bus). If there were no advantage to wearing a seat belt then why is it mandatory for the driver to wear his/hers? (So that the driver is less likely to be injured and can then be there to assist students in an emergency). I do not at all buy the argument that students can get caught in their seat belts and would die trying to escape. Well in my state school buses carry mandatory seat belt cutters and the few rare cases in which a student might get stuck in his/ her seat belt are tremendously outweighed by the few cases in which harm could occur from the seat belt. IMO the logic is the same as why we immunize. There are rare cases of bad reactions from vaccines- but the overall good brought about by them greatly outweighs the few bad aspects. I would rather take a slight risk of getting sick from a small pox vaccine than I would take the risk of getting small pox (if I was travelling to an area where it was prevalent). Sorry you asked the question...and becasue I am a school bus driver trainer I have pretty strong opinons on the subject.
GLad Phyl checked in....and I hope that CJ is getting ready for roof day which we all hope is tomorrow. Hi Meg- hope you get to Knit wits tomorrow.
Good night all Ginny

Ginny, I didn't know that NYS required seat belts in school buses. I'm glad to hear that they do. I don't think the buses here have seat belts but it's been quite some time since I had a child in school. Ds graduated from HS in 1998. I'm glad the kids and coach on your sport trip were nice. I bet all school buses really hate hearing the songs kids sing while on a bus trip. Do they still sing the same ones as when I was young I wonder?
Well after getting home I put two chicken breast on bones in the oven along with pork tenderloin which I had marinating. It will be eaten cold over the weekend..the pork that is..dh's on buns.. I really always preferred chicken thighs but breasts cooked on the bone are very good too especially roasted. We also got some fruit at the store which really wasn't all that great so I made rhubarb, strawberry, blackberry crisp. Also sauteed up a bunch of pasilla peppers we got marked down...don't know why they were because they looked perfect. Dh bought Italian sausages he will eat on buns with the peppers on them over the weekend also.
CJ, I think if those roofers don't come tomorrow we're all going to come to your house and call them and give them a good talking to.
I don't really feel like doing any crocheting this evening so will find something else to do I guess. I do have a bunch of rice we really don't like so maybe I'll sew up some rice bags
Hae a great night all and get a good sleep

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today
Well, the roofers are supposed to come today. According to the person I talked to yesterday they should be here sometime around 11:00 or 12:00 or 1:00!!! If they don't come today I've been telling people that I will have a nervous breakdown
Seriously though, we're expecting some rain over the holiday weekend, so I really need to get this done today. I have a small bulging area in the ceiling where some of the leaking has been and I really want to try to save that ceiling.
I also had some problems with my phones again which seem to happen after we get a rainstorm. I'm going to see if it happens the next time we get rain and if so then I'll contact Verizon and see if they can check the outside lines, or maybe the ones coming into the house. I do have my cell phone so at least I know I have a phone if I need one.
I'm hoping after I get all this "house stuff" done I'll feel more creative and start enjoying my crafting again.
Yesterday when I was getting my mail I was standing at the end of my driveway waiting for the traffic to go by so I could pick up a piece of trash that was laying there. I live on a 4 lane road with a lot of fast traffic, even though the speed limit is 30 MPH. While I was standing there, a car went by and the hubcap flew off and came right at me where I was standing. Fortunately I saw it coming and could get out of the way, but it really shook me up how easily I could have been hurt. My hands were actually shaking once I came in the house.
Take care everyone!

Well it's now 12:40 where you are so I hope the roofers are there by now. I'm SO glad that hubcap didn't hit you. It could have done a lot of damage. Thankfully it didn't hit you and you are ok physically but, yes, those things are very frightening. Things happen so fast
Another beautiful but hot day here. I have a few indoor things to do yet and then will work on planting my tomato plants outdoors in their containers. I really do need to go somewhere and get some bedding plants. I barely looked at them when I was at Walmart the other day
Have a great day all

Good afternoon, Cj- hope that the next time we hear from you that your roof repair is complete. Wow that is some story about the hubcap- but I am sure glad you are ok and were not injured. I am sure it was a frightening incident-and indeed a good thing that you were out of harms way. Are your outside lines covered for maintenance by Verizon? With all the storms that have come through it is no surprise that they might be loose. Nice to have a cell phone as a back up.
Ruth- I have hardly looked at any bedding plants either. Actually done minimal gardening at all...but will have to start working on that soon. What plants do you usually use for bedding- which work well for your area? Bet your Dh enjoyed those sausage and peppers- do you add onions to that too or does he just like peppers?
today was long- everyone had a half day so I worked pretty much straight through from 6:30 am to 1 pm. Its a tiring day but really nice to finish up early. THen Dh and I went to motor vehicle to renew the registration for the trailer for the boat (its a large row boat, he uses it to go fishing at local lakes). And then we stopped in to see Dd and the grandkids- its Dd’s birthday. During all this I realized I need to get to Hobby Lobby- also AC Moore. Perhaps that will work out this weekend.
BBL to see who checks in. Looking forward to 3 days off. G

Ginny, having a half day for you just means getting the whole day's work done in one half the time. At least you got the rest of the day off and now a long weekend. You did a lot in the last part of your day too
Yes my dh does love onions with it too but recently has been having too much heartburn and indigestion so he's had to cut back on onions either raw or cooked.
Well here flowers don't usually do real well. One year I found that vincas work well and dianthus work really well as they come back each year. I already have flowers on the ones I planted last year. They also actually stayed pretty green through winter. I put them in a spot where we've never got anything to grow before so perfect use of that spot Marigolds grow great. Petunias don't do well at all because of the wind. And I can't think of others that I've tried that worked. I know I planted a bunch of flowers year before last but right now can't think of what they were. How about you? What ones are you going to be looking for? Oh I think I've had sweet peas too in the past and another kind that look like sweet peas. I'll have to see if they have any of those.I have some flower plants coming up indoors that I planted from seeds but they're microscopic almost right now so I think it's going to take more that the growing season for them to be a good size to put outside so that doesn't help any. Lobelia I think they're called. I planted a while bunch of assylium on a small planter last week. It's only ground cover but I thought that if they all grow they should really fill that planter and actually look like a bunch of flowers. I've had those seeds forever though so I'll be surprised if they even come up.
So far todaY I haven't got out in the yard. I do have to go out and water though.
Talk to you all later. I'm getting the urge to go find posts to plant more seeds and hope for the best... Oh...this sounds weird but I had a pack of red lettuce seeds so I planted them inside in the planter I had the zucchini in. We'll see what happens there too because those seeds are also old
