We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.

Good morning everyone! Linda, thanks for getting us started off for the week.
The JA just has to try and say something sensational. He can't help it I suppose. It seems to be in his DNA. Unfortunately, he doesn't care how wild and outrageous or how ridiculous the claim nor what sort of destruction it may cause. I think he does it for a couple of reasons. One, he just craves the constant attention. It seems like it is almost as necessary to him as air to breathe. And two, he continually plays to the lowest IQ of his deluded base. They love conspiracy theories and the "them against us" mentality. He recognizes that and plays it to the hilt. They in turn are insatiable in wanting more.
Got a good laugh out of Hillary's Russian hat at the Yale graduation, but while it was funny I'm not so sure it was the best move on her part. Still, what does it matter if she pokes the bear? No matter what she does or does not do, the GOP is going to vilify her. So why not make fun of it along the way?
I really wish Nancy Pelosi would step aside for someone new. I have nothing against her, but she is a lightning rod, and we desperately need to win back the House in November. Having her at the helm just makes it easy for the GOP and their criticism. They don't even have to think up new attacks. But I don't know who is waiting in the wings to replace her? We need someone strong, vibrant, and a fresh face.

I have thought for a long time, Pelosi should step down for the same reasons as you, Joyce. New blood, new ideas. I hope for the same reasons for Hilary to stay in the background for awhile. Dems needs a good shakeup all the way around & need to concentrate on the issues not JA, not impeachment etc. I'm not so sure a mid term win is a sure thing if some things don't change.
JA wants to double the postal rates for Amazon based solely on his jealously of the founder of Amazon. & owner of Washington Post. Does he not think that by doing so will just hurt the PO in the end when Amazon cuts deals with Fed Ex & UPS for cheaper rates leaving the PO out completely. He's cutting off his nose to spite his face...how dumb can you get?!?! Apparently JA dumb!
Heading outside to tackle the last flowerbed.. Moving everything out & planting grass. Makes 3 large flowerbeds going back to grass. Happy & sad at same time. Happy I have work in the garden but sad I'm getting too old, tired & achy to do it.
Have a sunny day!

Do you think the JA really believes he is being unfairly targeted? News reporters keep talking about his "deep seated belief" that he is being unfairly targeted. I don't think he believes that at all other than I think in his own mind he does truly believe that he is not a mere mortal and should be able to do exactly as he pleases. But as for trying to sell the snake oil of someone who is being unfairly targeted, I think that is all a deliberate ploy on his part because he knows that the backbone of his base eats that kind of conspiracy stuff up. They're the people who keep The National Enquirer with it's outrageously fabricated stories alive and profiting. He's shown us this side of himself from the very beginning as witnessed by his birther movement. He's a slippery but wily con man, and that is all he is or ever will be. He's good at it, and his gullible base doesn't even realize they are the butt of his joke.

Linda, you and I are in agreement about the mid-terms. I am concerned that too many Ds are taking them for granted, and I don't think we can afford to be complacent for a moment. I think they're going to be a hard fight.
As for hurting the PO by charging Amazon more, I think he could care less. He doesn't care if he hurts the PO, and he doesn't care if he hurts consumers. I don't believe he ever even considers how his actions might affect anyone other than himself because it is totally irrelevant to him.

Judging from the number of views our thread regularly receives, it looks like a lot of people may read but not post. That's fine, and you're welcome to continue to do so, but please feel free to join in the discussion as well. We just want to keep the thread friendly.

Trying to figure out JA?
But I wanted to opine about the postal service and amazon. IMO the amazon contract SAVED the postal service. No one sends first class letters anymore, even magazine subscriptions can be viewed online. UPS and Fedex have better package delivery and faster (well other than priority mail).
The post office has operated in the red for decades. And I know they claim less than 1% miss-delivered items, but why am I always the 1%??!

Thanks for joining in and posting Rene ( DotRen,) That's a good point. I do send a few first class letters, but you are right that it is very few and not that often. I utilize Amazon a lot, and it's not unusual for me to order things from them that I could pick up at the store, but it's just easier and more time saving to order them online. I have a prime membership, so my shipping is free. Technology has completely overhauled our lives in most cases, and we haven't even scratched the surface yet. Today I ordered a couple of tops from Kohl's online, and thought twice about it because 1) I was going to have to pay shipping and 2) I have to wait a week to get them. Decided to go ahead with the order though because what I wanted wasn't available in the store, at least not in one near me.

Speaking of technology changing our lives, did anyone see the 60 Minutes segment last night on Google? It seems whatever there is to know about us, Google knows it all. I don't know if that's good or bad, but I suspect a mixture of both. Some were saying that it stifles innovation and prevents small companies from being able to compete. Still there are advantages as well. It's a complicated world.

nashville11, I read an article very recently about how google and the internet in general are killing patents. The basic idea was that a lot of people feel like "there is nothing new", so they don't attempt to patent ideas for fear it's already been done. I can see where that ties in to stifling innovation, when people just don't try to put a new idea out there.

Yes, as helpful as Google is (at least it is for me), I can see that there is definitely a downside to it as well. Yet, I continue to use it daily and most often multiple times a day. Just like I'm saddened that mega stores like WalMart and Target have been the demise of small mom and pop stores; and yet, I still shop there because I can find what I want and usually at a price that makes it especially attractive to me.

I'm the same way. Amazon always has "it" in stock, no matter what "it" is. My dog is on a limited diet due to skin allergies and I could get the food at petsmart locally, but they only have the small bags here. Amazon has it at the same price (the big bag) and free shipping, and I don't have to lug it around in and out of the car. We are a convenience country, for sure!

I heard someone describe JA Tweeting as Twitter Litter. I thought , what a great way to describe it...LOL
I order from Amazon all the time. We live in a small rural community of about 1800 POP, & not much of a Main Street with stores for shopping. We have 1 grocery store, so, many times I use Prime Pantry as well. The nearest Walmart & other larger stores is 75 miles away. ND winters usually prevent out of town shopping for us. So, I would say we are an online shopping family out of necessity. If JA messes that up, well, you ladies can start collecting bail money for me...;-). LOL
HI, Rene :-). Enjoyed your posts from yesterday. Always nice to have new people share their thoughts !

This business (personal vendetta) with the Postmaster General and Amazon (Bezos) is outrageous. And once again, zero push back from leadership.
Welcome to our Banana Republic! Political Norms violated (just over the last week):
*Revealing intelligence sources *Politically motivated prosecutions *Mixing private and government business *Foreign interference in U.S. elections *Undermining the First Amendment

"And once again, zero push back from leadership." -- doordie50, You're right, Pam. They don't even make a pretense of pushing back no matter what he does. I really can't decide the reason. Probably it's a combination of multiple reasons, but I think predominantly it is because he keeps his core base fired up with his outrageous assertions, and the rest of the GOP is afraid to cross that base. The man may be mentally unbalanced (at least I think he is), but he is smart. He read the mood of the country, identified his target segment, and is offering up exactly what they want to hear to keep them in his corner. That's why I think we can't afford to be complacent for a second about the mid-term elections, or 2020. Here in TN, we have a governor's race going on this summer. Just last night I saw an ad for one of the GOP candidates who in just a short ad used the JA's name multiple times trying to align himself with him like sticking to Velcro. That may very well work for him. Actually both GOP candidates who are dueling for the primary are aligning themselves with the JA. One is Diane Black who is currently in the House. She has a small lead right now, and both of them are huge JA supporters. Of course, it goes without saying that neither of them will get my vote. Not because they are Republicans, but because I would never consider voting for anyone who aligned themselves with the JA. He is a disaster for our country, and I'm afraid we will never be able to recover.
