BEAUTIFUL morning here today—68º and very slight breeze—so I walked at 6 am, ate breakfast and then did yard work—trimmed and shaped the cat claw vines on our wall (they were out of control again), checked all the plants, fertilized a couple more. Then I did the dance class at the gym, hit TJ’s fo r cereal and carrots for DH and had lunch—have my 10000 steps in so that’s good for 1 pm.

There are three smoke detectors chirping—we have a lot of them—and DH is having trouble getting them stopped—ugh, hate when that happens.

Hi!
Hottest day of the year here, and humid, yuck. Did some errands today, food prep and gym. I made a big pot of Swiss chard soup yesterday and the plan is to have a bowl of soup before a smaller dinner, and also to cut down carbs. Started doing 1/2 the size of a slice of toast I've been eating for brunch every day.
Joan, you could use the roasted tomato in pastas, on bruschetta. I've done stuffed tomatoes with a slow roast, and also use them in ratatouilles.
Tomorrow is volunteering in the morning. Then more errands in the afternoon, thinking of getting my nails done, also might splurge on a dress that I can wear for formal night on the cruise. I tried it on this past weekend and it is quite unusual, one of those short in the front and long (floor length) in the back styles, I love the way it flows.
We're going to nyc this Thurs for a couple of days. There is an architecture convention and SO wants to go to his university's happy hour. Hoping it's not going to be hot, we're going to be walking around town during the days. Made some restaurant reservations just in case.

So replacing the batteries in the smoke detector is not the cause of the chirping?

Hi all,
Hot and humid here too. Joan, I had to disconnect one of mine. It is wired to the ceiling. I will have to get an electrician look at it.
Sue, I think it will help put a lot of closure on things. Her husband got a job elsewhere last fall, so it has been tough waiting. I am taking on new duties that fit with my area of experience, so I am excited about that.
Jo Anne, did you see the KnitPicks sale? So tempting, butI need to use up the yarn I have.

So the chirping and alarms went off for over three hours with DH getting more and more agitated—he claimed a ladder about 20 times trying to get a sense of which sensors were going—they seemed to move—we have ten foot ceilings and large open areas so they also echo off the walls—-I finally retreated to our bedroom with the cat who hated the sounds as much as we did if not more! He spent tons of time on phone calls for help from the alarm company (who inspite of the alarm showing it had a battery problem, claimed it wasn ‘t their problem and they could not help till Wednesday), the smoke detector company (who tried really hard to be of help), and the battery company (who were great and actually finally solved the issue of what the H was happening—the batteries are $40 a piece and are supposed to last ten years). Final diagnosis—three problems—the battery for the whole alarm system is worn out (just as we tried to tell them,), the single smoke detector that the alarm co. Installed to connect to them was in need of new battery and was chirping, AND one of the ten year batteries went dead unexpectantly. So the alarm system is disconnected until Wednesday, the smoke detector with the dead ten year battery is removed from the ceiling until the co. Replaces it for free, and the alarm system’s detector has a new battery—OMG, what a crazy chaotic afternoon—it becomes chaotic because DH’s OCD-ness is really challenged by such a frustrating event! But his perseverance did win out in the end I have to admit! In the midst of all this, one toilet got clogged and almost overflowed! I fixed that with a plunger in time thank goodness. That would have put him over the edge!
Breakfast on the patio—loving those tomatoes, Sue—thank you so much for suggesting that—I will probably slow roast another pan ful before I leave for NYC on the 29th as I know DH won’t be able to eat the tomatoes fast enough to keep up. I gave four to my neighbors yesterday with five big beets and some basil. Took four to the gym for my teacher. Still have a pantry full of them—will roast the romas for Tomato basil soup this afternoon while I make bread since I’ll need the oven on anyway.
I took a 1.3 mi walk today and did 3 flights of stairs at the park—need to get ready for the subway stairs! I am feeling good—so awesome! Back pain is exhausting—sort of like a thorn that is stuck in you and you cannot forget about it all day. Having it back off is exhilarating!
Oh dear, Sidney caught a bird—I was so sad and he was so proud. Thankfully he never was taught by his mom to eat prey so he just brought it to us and laid down beside the poor baby. I did not think he could because he is so heavy but our friend saw him jump and get it—guess he can jump given the right motivation! LOL. Not sure I like having the chain of life played out in front of me!

OMG my heart is just breaking for these children—who would ever believe that in 2018 the United States could be so cruel to do this horror to children! I’m sorry but I am so distraught I can hardly function!

Vegas heat has hit—108 yesterday—but still this morning cool enough to walk comfortably at 6am so that is good—eventually it will not cool down below 90 at night—that is the tough time here.
Imagining everyone is super busy, but wondering if you all are ready to give this up—have to admit I would miss keeping up but I understand if that is the case.
Found three more Armenian cukes on my vine this morning! Still getting lots of tomatoes but picking them a bit early since once they start to turn the high heat can just make them soft—like a pre-roasted tomato!
Going to play cards with four other friends tonight and have dinner—taking a cucumber salad. Tomorrow we eat out before going to see Trevor Noah with four other friends. Busy weekend. I hope to get DH to go see Incredibles II on Sunday!
Hope you all are okay.

Hi all, Joan - I just cannot seem to check in daily but do love hearing from everyone and would also really hate to give it up. Maybe we could just not count on everyone every day - it does keep me accountable with my exercise (ofcourse I'm not back to doing it completely yet and I just love hearing what everyone is doing. I do think that when we were on the WW site we had more traffic to the thread and other people in and out. It seems that when we have someone come by here, they don;'t seem to stay - probably because none of us are actively doing the program. 108 degrees - Wow!! It is beautiful here today - in the 90's but a breeze and not too humid.
I fertilized all my plants this morning. Always feels good to get that done - as well as the yard which I moved the back day before yesterday and the front yesterday. The back was quite a chore - the first time I have done it myself since the surgery - so I took my time and rested at intervals. Felt very accomplished to get it done though.
I am eating a little better than I was for a while but there are some times that I don't seem to have an appetite. The other night I really wanted an Egg MacMuffin and OJ for dinner - a strance request but DH went and got it for me and it tasted SO GOOD!
I am still having the afternoon low grade temp. Will have the pulmonary appt the end of next week - maybe I can find something out. It is worrisome. I haven't been in to that office in so long they are making me fill out all the papers like I am a new pt. Hate that.
Have fun with your night out Joan! Is Trevor Noah a movie? Haven't heard of it. Have watched a lot of old movied at home lately on Amazon but have not been out to a movie since Solo.
Holly I saw the yarn sale and have been very tempted but I am like you and have a stash of yarm that I really need to use up first. I still may change my mind and invest in some of the sale goodies.

Wow, JoAnne—mowing your big yard—that’s a big leap forward from where you were physically! Hope you don’t have any repercussions from too much too soon. I am doing pretty well on my own with my back and arms—walking every morning about 6–have added two flights of stairs in to my walk—and added on a half mile today—already have almost 11,000 steps today. Went to weights and dance—no problems. Knock on wood!
Made a creamy cucumber salad to take to dinner—I may actually eat some—my cukes are so mild I may be able to eat them. Usually I get heartburn so stay away.
My gym teacher is constantly giving us directions about fitness and eating and standing and walking—so today I sat down and wrote a poem—I think it’s kind of funny. I might post it here—tomorrow.

Good morning.
Joan, I would hate to see this thread go. I’ve been posting for 11 years. I just can’t post daily anymore though. There are so many forms of communication these days that it can be overwhelming. It does help me stay accountable. Which reminds me, I need to get back on the exercise bandwagon.
I got an iPhone 8 this week. I was able to trade in my 6s Plus for half the price of the 8. It is nice to have a smaller phone again.

Holly, my X is also smaller than the plus—my hands are very happy with it—I have short stubby fingers and it made the plus harder to hold—this one is perfect for me.
Discovered last night that I STILL cannot eat cucumbers—OMG the salad I made was so good so I decided to just give it a try and I had a serving of it—probably amounted to about ten cucumber slices—within two hours I was in terrible distress—heartburn and belching and then it moved down into my large intestine—like rolling cramping—ugh—made card playing a bit of a trial—kept me from eating dessert though which is good. Funny, I can eat them pickled with no side effects.
Ok, I just didn’t know if you all just were ready to drop this or if you are just less intense—Idon’t want to stop it as I enjoy this contact we have built over time—I worry that I am turning you off by over share—LOL—so tell me to shut up once in a while if that is the case.
Weight had bumped up—not sure why—so need to watch my portion sizes I guess.

Hi! I love this thread and all you ladies. There is never too much overshare Joan! Busy, just got back from NYC and now about to go to a play at 4pm, rushing to get ready. Traffic is so bad. It's been exhausting since Wed night when I went to a new condo building sales office opening event, then Thurs morning train to NY. So glad I don't live in NY, too many people and cars!!!

Had a great weekend. Yesterday enjoyed a cookout at the home of one of our Life Group members from church. Really enjoy this group. Everyone is our age which makes it nice. Most of our church is younger people with families.
It was very hot and humid over the weekend- in the 90’s. Haven’t done much outside with the very hot weather- just cannot tolerate it. Wish my pulmonary appt was sooner- will be so glad to see someone and find out what is going on with me. Went to the grocery store Sat. And had to leave before through - felt so bad- I think my temp went up while there- became very hot and flushed and felt terrible. Got home and still had to bring all the groceries in and put them away. Then collapsed on the bed and slept for a hour .
DJ has been having terrible allergy problems. He ordered an air purifier-$350- that we hope will help. He will put it downstairs near his desk where he stays most of the time. We probably need one upstairs too.
