Yet another Monday that Ginny is free...yayyyy.
Yes it is going to be a hot week. I don't think I'll be doing much yard work this week so maybe I'll do some more organizing and definitely I'll be doing some crafting. I've been looking up instructions on lining bags. Up to now I haven't lined any nor have I put in zippers so I'm going to practice doing that by making little pencil cases and makeup bags for the girls. Today I hope to get most of the rest of the needed work done on the fingerless gloves so that they will be ready to send in the late summer. I'll also work on my mitten project.
I hope all of you have a wonderful day and a fantastic week

Hi!
Well Ruth, I still do not feel free,....not sure when that will actually set in. I did do a small amount of gardening, despite the heat. And I finished the pillowcase! I am very excited about that. Other than that I kept busy trying to plan our little trip to Washington and spent time with Dh, Dd and Ds. Ruth you always have multiple projects lined up. I wonder how hard it is to put those little zippers in bags. You will master that quickly and the girls will love them.
Got on more super hot day here and then it cools a wee little bit. Hope that each of you is staying comfortable. Ginny

I did a tiny bit of yard work too. Mostly it consisted of watering the plants and taking some wood down to the storage shed and looking at my rose bush remains...the deer got it. It's been there for years and all of a sudden they've eaten almost the whole thing.
Actually putting in the zipper looks really easy. I was amazed when I saw some of the youtubes and written tutorials showing various ways of doing it. Some are way easier than others and of course I'm going to use the easiest way. First I have to get the little cases made.
I seem to have lost track of my appliques I was going to put in the gloves. I was putting things away in a hurry when dd was coming over and now I've forgotten where I put them so I'm just going to start over making little hearts, stars, bows, and flowers then maybe tomorrow I'll get around to sewing them on. I did do some weaving in of ends on 6 more pairs of the gloves.I have to watch a couple youtubes on seams because my seams are not nice looking. I need to find out the right way to do them.
I hope that Meg is still having a good time at the beach and that CJ and Phyl are having a good day also
Ginny, yes it does take time to realize that now you are free and don't have to worry and/or prepare to go to work. It's kind of hard to get used to in a way having all that free time.

Just a quick hello to everyone. It's so miserably hot here and in my house I don't feel like posting much.

Hello everyone, I am back and trying to get myself organized today. I was trying to start a waffle blanket when I left and had to rip it out a couple of times when I was away. So this evening I have been sitting at the computer watching a tutorial. I have crocheted this pattern several times and did not have any trouble. My problem is keeping the ends of the rows straight. I think I have finally got it.
We arrived home yesterday late afternoon, it was a 4 - 5 hour drive. We had to make a detour because there was a big fire somewhere. We could see the smoke for miles. The weather on the coast was wonderful, cool mornings and evenings and the afternoons were about 80. The nights were cold and Sunday morning when we left there was some fog and it was about 60. Then we got to the Sacramento area and it was 100+. I went to the store this afternoon and it was hot.
We were very close to the beach and we could see the beach for miles. The house we stayed in was beautiful. I thought I was going to a beach house where they had all their old furniture not so. It was beautifully furnished and very comfortable. Only problem for me it was on a hill and it was difficult for me to navigate the steps and the steep drive way. But I enjoyed watching the waves roll in and I was really relaxed. Beautiful place.
So now I have to get back to normal. I have not had time to read the posts I missed but I will get to them tomorrow if I can pry Devin away from the computer.

Welcome home. Meg!! Sounds like a perfect get away- lovely location, beautiful plalce to stay in and great weather. I (and I am sure everyone else is) happy that you are back....but so glad that you got away.
Ruth, hope you can find those appliques....donβt ask me where to look for them, remember I put things away in dumb places. The Lord knows where the appliques are....hope you find them quickly.
CJ- we all should meet in Alaska for tea or something like that. I really dislike this weather also. I can take the cold much better. Hope your weather breaks soon and that in the interim you are able to relax and find a pleasant activity to do while waiting for better temperatures.
Hot here today also. Got some errands to run, so I will be out. Ginny

Hello Crafters Meg - Your trip sounds wonderful, I'm glad you had a good time and enjoyed the beach. Ginny - I've thought about moving further north but not Alaska But even in the northern parts of the US they still get hot weather, so I guess there is no getting away from it. Ruth - I'm sorry the deer got your rose, it's so tough to keep them out of our yards, isn't it? Phyl - Hope you are feeling well. I went out yesterday morning early to get groceries and errands done, so now I don't have to go out for a few days. I'm just keeping the blinds and curtains closed to keep it as cool as possible. It's not so bad until later in the day when I get the full western sun hitting the whole side of my house. That just heats everything up. One of the rooms I have an air conditioner in is my sewing room, so I actually went in there and did some cutting for a few small quilts. I may get in there later today and do some piecing. Take care everyone!

Good afternoon all. It's cooler here than was predicted so it's fairly pleasant.
Alaska was one of the places we considered moving to when we ended up here. I have a friend that lives in Alaska and from what she says I don't know if I'd like it or not. She considers 60's as a nice high temperature. While I don't like lingering extreme heat I wouldn't like it never getting above 80. And then there's the very long hours of darkness in the winter. I'd never be able to go anywhere. but we could all go on a cruise.
Meg, welcome back, It's great to see you. It sounds as though you had a very beautiful place to stay and being able to see the ocean and the waves is something that I would love. You mentioned your waffle blanket. As I was looking for my appliques yesterday I came across a waffle blanket I partially made a couple years ago using my own pattern. After it was mostly done...well first of all I forgot what yarn I used. IT was all white and you know how all whites are different. I didn't like it though I think because I must have used a hook that was too big and made the blanket too loose. However when I saw it yesterday I did realize that it is actually quite nice so maybe I'll just add an edging which will make it a little sturdier. I'll make the edging in another color and it will end up being a complete blanket although a little on the small side. I made up my own pattern and the pattern itself is nice but I do remember throwing the pattern away because of my former thought that I didn't like it.
Instead of searching I'm just going to make the appliques over. I do know that I was looking through a bin or box the other day and saw then but I sure didn't see them yesterday or the day before...maybe, as "they" say, third time is the charm
Got a message from ddil that ds and dgd have landed safely in Chicago in their trip home from S Africa. Now they'll travel in the church bus from Chicago to Lousiville. Ddil says that dgs is enjoying being in Taiwan and learning a lot. This week they're having a missions conference there and he's also studying Mandarin Chinese. He will also be doing some teaching while over there.

Good evening, CJ- wise woman you.....of course the best place to have an airconditioner is in the craft room!!!!! . Glad you were able to get some fabric cutting done. Sometimes for me, I like to cut one day and start piecing the next.... think we have a bit more hot weather so even if you stretch it out over a few days its ok. Glad your errands are done for awhile. Very little is open tomorrow- so getting things done today avoids a lot of hassle. Ruth, I cannot imagine a deer eating a rose, but then here in NY they seem to eat everything- even stuff they are not supposed to eat. WHen those cute appliques do show up they can be used on another project...I am sure you will not waste them! I like your story about designing your own afghan pattern. Think addiing a border is such a sweet idea and is a good way to stabilize the afghan. It must be so pretty....also adding an edging in another color will use up a small quantity of yarn that is left over from another project. I washed the finished pillowcase today...its so colorful and came out pretty well. Still hot here. I just joke about Alaska-but I do dislike this hot weather. Have a great evening. Seems like we have not heard from Phyl in a while. Hope she is ok Ginny

Yes Cj is smart to get shopping done and out of the way so she can just relax. And CJ, I agree with Ginny on that...smart move to have an air conditioner in the craft room. I tried to get dh to put one in mine and change it to be a bedroom and sleep in there where it would be cool but that was the main window he said an air conditioner wouldn't be a good idea because of the way the window is.He said the window and a/c would probably both end up on the ground which is a long way down.
Now I can say congratulations on having the pillow case done and even washed and probably ironed although I don't think you said that.
Yes I can sure use the little embellishments on something else.I started one flower pattern but I couldn't make heads nor tails of what she was saying. It just didn't make any sense at all to me.
Have a great evening everyone

Hello Everyone - Happy 4th of July to you Ruth - I'm glad your family has had safe travels. Sorry you have to make the appliques again. Of course, as soon as you do you'll probably find the others Ginny - I'm glad you finished the pillow case. Have you figured out what projects you want to take for your car ride? Meg - Hope you have adjusted to being back home, it's always sad when vacation is over. Phyl - Hope you are getting some crafting done. My sewing room was once a bedroom, so I lucked out with the air conditioner being in there and also that it hasn't broken. It's still hot here but the combination of the fans, portable air conditioner and the air conditioners that work are making it tolerable. I do seriously need to think about getting out of this house before next Summer. I finished piecing the small purple gingham quilt. It measures 12x12 so it's more of a quilt block, but I do like the miniature quilts. I thought about putting a large border around it in a floral fabric, but I'm not sure. I also put the borders on the small embroidered block using the 1930s fabric. The embroidered block was done in blue floss on a muslin type fabric and is of a small dog with a ball. The 1930s fabric I had is blue with some red and white dogs in it, so it worked out well. This one is small too - about 10x10. I really want to get that quilt top pieced for that Solstice Quilt I worked on from Dec 16 to Jun 17. It's laying on my table and is next in line. Take care everyone!

Oh Phyl, don't mention kits.... When organizing the other day I was faced by the pile of kits I have. I bought them because of sales and several I didn't like the pattern that came with the kit so threw away the pattern and added the yarn to my stash but I still have a pile of kits waiting to be done. I won't even make a list of things that need to be finished because it would be too long. I don't even know how many baby blankets I have that only need edging. I'm going to finish these birthday things then I'll do the charity stuff then maybe start on the UFO's.I'll maybe throw in some Christmas decorations between other projects so I can send them with the Christmas tree skirt which also needs to be done by about the first of Nov.The little Christmas decorations can easily be done in minutes here and there. I waste a lot of those...the minutes that is so can put them to better use. I started the scarf for dgd this morning. It's using the color that was used in the picture in the Mountain Land Scarf pattern...the one Ginny gave us...and it's looking beautiful. I do want to start another thing to work on when this gets boring. We have nothing planned for today except tonight we'll probably stand on our porch and watch the fireworks in the distance. CJ, those blocks you spoke of sound very pretty. I think floral around that purple block you mentioned sounds like it would be nice.Well moving is a huge job especially when you're moving out of a home you've been in for years and have collections of things that have been gathering all that time. It's important, though, that you are safe and comfortable.Do you think you'd stay in the same area of the country or move somewhere entirely different?
