Good morning! Meg, good to hear from you and congrats on the upcoming birth of your new little great nephew or great niece. I pray for his/her safe arrival and the health of the mom too! Nothing like a new baby in the family, Will you be making an afghan for this little one? (Understand if not, as I am sure its expensive to ship). Hope your shots goes well.
CJ- yes I agree that the quilt blocks are too busy!! Thanks for posting the link- its still neat to see what others have done. I tend to use a lot of tonal prints, which are much more subdued. Funny that most of the quilters on Pat Sloans site all opted for a very busy look.
Ruth, glad you mastered the giraffe!!! Having a few projects going is great, as it does give you a chance to vary what you are working on.
Phyl- hope you slept better with the new mask.
Cold and rainy here. Worked again this am and am now looking forward to starting the weekend. Think Dh and I are heading out to do some errands. BBL Ginny. (Sorry I am so short this morning!)

Meg, I'm glad to see that you stopped in last evening and congrats on the new addition to your extended family. I have prayed for safe delivery for baby and mom. Hope the eye injections go well. I can't imagine getting shots in the eye.
I don't think we're going out today after all. Had planned on a little shopping and errands but it's cold and rainy. I think it snowed in the night but I didn't see it. It's all gone and just wet today and overcast and I can't see the mountain for the mist so there may be snow up there. I'm happy to sit at home and work on my crocheting. Dh is napping so I'll be disappointed if when he gets up he still wants to go out. I did about 10 or so rows on the Bible cover last night but, although the yarn looked pretty on the skein, after being crocheted it turned out to look like a camoflage print and I didn't think that was good for a girl so I started it over in a different yarn and got about 10 rows done again. I haven't started the shawl yet. I have a month to get dgd's,ds,and dgs' gifts done so I should be able to work on all those and make good progress on the shawl. I can't wait to start some other things I've seen lately looking at patterns such as some plaids. I'd like to make all the grands in Indy plaid hats and I can already see them in different colors but I hope I have the appropriate yarn because I really don't want to have to buy anymore although I'd sure like to stock up on Red hearts's with Love that they have back at Walmart as it's a really great price and I want to get some before they might feel like they need to stop selling it again or raise the price. As Ginny said, if you're going to crochet (or knit or whatever) you may as well buy while it's on sale or at a good price rather than waiting till it's more expensive. But mine is getting to a pretty ridiculous level so I need to stop after I buy that. If we stay home today I'm going to sort through and see just how much and what colors I have in the With Love and see what colors I want or need to buy.
Can't believe it's Friday already!

The shots went fine this morning. Allergies are bothering my eyes and I need to go and get some allergy eye drops recommended by my Dr. I also need to try and find some yarn so that I can finish my b/blanket. I can't drive until my eyes clear up.
Ginny, I will not be knitting ab/blanket for this baby though I will send something. For the older brother I bought several outfits and mailed them when he was born. He was a leap year baby born on the 29th Feb. It would take awhile to finish a b/blanket and at the moment I am working slowly. I want to crochet an afghan for my DD. I mentioned that months ago and I really need to get busy and start that. I hope the rain clears up so that you and DH can get your errands done.
Ruth, getting shots in my eyes is not a big deal as they prepare my eyes with different drops and numb my eyes and I don't feel the injections. So don't ever be afraid to have them work on your eyes. I hope you find the right yarn for your bible cover. The yarn I need to finish my b/blanket is a yarn that someone gave me and it was an odd brand so I will have to try and match it the best I can.
phyl & cj, I hope all is well.
Have a good evening.

Meg it's good to hear that the eye is numbed and meds are given. Just being able to see a needle coming toward my eye would probably make me blink and make me want to pull away. If I ever need it though I'll remember what you said and it will help.
I hope the rest of you are doing ok. Must have been a busy day for all of you. Dh and I did end up going out but did only shopping. We went to two stores. I got in some crocheting before we left because dh was still trying to make up his mind until about 2. I had to rip out what I had done on the Bible cover because I found that, even though I measured my chain to the correct length, after I did a few rows it became longer and was too long so I took it out twice until I got it to be the correct length. Now it's 7:30 so I may work on it the rest of the evening.. I'm nearly done with the inside flap for the back cover and am making it all in one piece so I'm starting with the back and will move on to the 1 1/2" spine and then front cover, front inside flap then add on the little flap for the notebook and pen holder. Then all I'll have to do is make an edging and a little flap for fastening it closed when the Bible is not being used. In other words won't have to sew all those parts together like I did with the last one.I'm going to make a cross for the front like I did on the other also and maybe a little heart.
What have you all been up to?

Happy Saturday!!
Meg, pfew! I have always wondered about the comfort level of getting shots in your eye. You have never complained about it (do not think that complaining is in your nature), glad Ruth asked and your response indicates that its not a bad experience at all.
Ruth, good to hear that you have made good progress on the Bible cover. Would sure be nice if you did not have to buy any more yarn to make those Indy Plaid hats for your family. Gee, I learn something from you almost every day.. What style are the hats you will be making?? I looked up Indy plaid hats online and saw several distinct styles....you sure do take on the most interesting projects!!!
We are attending a retirement party today....hope we have a decent time and do not get stuck there too long. Ginny

Ginny, the plaid projects are just called plaid. The Indy part I mentioned was my gdc that live in Indiana. One of the crochet bloggers is starting a course on plaids. She is charging $29 for it. I was considering paying because it sounds like you get a lot of excellent info and many, many patterns but I do think I can do plaid without taking that course and I sure don't need more patterns, so I'm still thinking and have until 11pm tomorrow to continue to get the discount. She says the problem many people have are the increases and decreases and still keeping the plaid correct but I think I can do that too.
CJ, I'm glad the weather there is so nice. Today here is still cold with the temp right now being 45 but it's to be warmer in the coming week.I need to go look at those fabrics and I hope, too, that people post picture of their completed items.
I got distracted last evening so didn't do anymore on the Bible cover or anything else craft related. Today I'm going to do a little cooking making chicken soup because it's cool weather and also some roasted chicken and then some brownies or maybe apple crisp. Then I'll do that straightening of my craft cave to see what RH with Love yarns I have that I was going to do yesterday then hope to spend a lot of time crocheting later.
I hope the party goes well, Ginny, and that you don't have to stay any longer than you want. I hope you all have a great weekend

CJ, the fabric truly is great! And I love the first table runner and the quilt under the second table runner. Some people just have such a great God given talent!!
Ginny, I meant to ask, how is your cold?

Busy day....party was ok but we stayed too long.....
CJ- thanks for the heads up on the Poldark series on TV. Will have to check that out myself!! Nothing better than fall weather, which I am glad you are enjoying/
Ruth-hope you are able to figure out the pattern without having to pay $29 for it. But if you do, with all the work you do you will make it worth the cost. Hope you can get some crochet time in this everning
This darned cold, the cough goes on forever, so does a slightly stuffy nose. But I feel much better....just sound crummy. Thanks for asking
Hi to Meg and Phyl G

In the $29 she includes three video, 2 ebooks full of patterns, a private facebook page where you can go for help or to show off you completed projects, and I think she mentioned other things too so at least it's not just for one pattern. She said she will talk about plaid, how it's made, how to do increases and decreases in plaid, and how to choose your colors so that your projects will look the best. She gives a coupon for $10 off this weekend and you download everything so it's your's forever not just during some class time like many classes are. So that's how it ends up being $29 otherwise it will be $39. She is a very nice young woman with a couple small children yet she still answers any emails you send her asking about a problem you may be having with one of her patterns. And she gives a lot of free patterns. I've made several of hers.
Ginny, sorry you had to stay at the party too long. Sometimes it's hard to drag men away from things. Sorry to that your cold is still lingering but I'm glad to hear you do feel some better.
I did do some on the Bible cover but not much so far. I also look thru my yarn and found that I had only 3 skeins of RH With Love. But I also have the ones I bought the other day and I have quite a few of the metallic in various colors so I really do need more of the plain With Love. I'll have to stop at Walmart next week when we go out. Dh has to go have blood drawn and a couple other things like an eye doctor appointment for him. Then I have to go downtown sometime to pay tax and get plates for my new car. Now that I think about it they didn't offer to put that in with the loan but no matter. I don't want to be paying interest on it anyway so I would have declined. I wouldn't have even taken the loan but dh wanted to do it that way for some reason.
I was making chicken soup today and messed it completely up. I thought I was putting in quinoa and instead found that I had put in black mustard seeds. It tasted horrible but then we tasted the chicken and veggies and they tasted fine so I drained the whole thing, rinsed them off and started with new broth and seasonings and it's good now. Makes me remember how much they tried to drill into our heads in nursing school to READ LABELS.
See you all tomorrow. Have a great night's sleep everyone

Good morning, Ruth your chicken soup story is funny- has a good ending too! Wish all my kitchen mishaps were that easy to remedy. Sure does sound like a good deal on the crochet patterns... and having a friendly and helpful designer makes it even better.
Supposed to be attending a quilt show after church with my friend> hopefully today is a long but fun day. G

Good morning Ginny and all who come in later. Ginny I hope you have a great time with your friend at the quilt show. I think the next time they have one here I'll have to go.
I heard it was snowing this morning but it then turned to rain and all is melted now.It is wet and cold though.
I have a few other things I have to do but then I want to work in my craft cave to get a better organizing system going. I think I also need to get out all the fleece fabric I have and either do something with it or donate it somewhere. It's taking up a lot of space and has been sitting in there for years. I only post on two threads but I've been using too much time on the computer. I need to stick with just posting on the two threads and not go looking for more pattern or playing the games.
Well I'm going to go get busy. See you later.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - It's downright chilly there! Glad you were able to salvage the chicken and vegetables and still had a good meal. I saw a cute crochet pattern for a small Rudolph the Reindeer and another for a Santa Claus. They were small, maybe only a few inches in width. If you are interested in a link to these patterns, let me know and I'll put it here for you. Ginny - Hope you are feeling better today and that you get to go to the quilt show. Meg and Phyl - Hope you're enjoying your day. It's another nice day here, sunny and in the 70s. Sadly I won't be going out of the house. I don't need to go out anywhere and I don't like to sit outside very often, just don't always feel that safe. So I'll stick my head out the door just to see how it feels. When I was a kid this was exactly the kind of days my family would go on a Sunday drive. I miss those sometimes I have a weather station in my house and it says that for the month of September I received 9 inches of rain. I'm not sure if that's a lot or not, but it does seem like quite a bit. Take care everyone!

CJ, that Rudolf and Santa sound cute so yes I'd love to have the link. Thank you for thinking of me. Tomorrow it's supposed to get up to 75 here and the next day 78 so nicer days are coming. It did clear up though. It was cloudy, misty and cold earlier but now it's sunny and it's now in high 50's so there has been some improvement. Yes 9 inches of rain seems like a lot to me. They say that here our average rainfall is about 12 inches for the while year. If course in winter we do have snow. I don't like to sit outside either. Not that it isn't safe but I just was never a person that liked to sit outdoors.
I've been working on the Bible cover. I haven't got to the craft cave yet but might do that now......or not. I have to decide.

hi and good evening,
I pulled a good one yesterday.nicked my finger with the rotrary cutter.bleed a little bit. have a butterfly bandage on it now. come to think of it I did the is same thing about 5 years ago.that one had to have 7 stitches.mmmm guess I better not be in my playpen cutting on octoberfest saturday.no I was not drinking.
we did not go to the parade. it was to cold like 45 degrees.sitting in the lawn chair for 3-4 hours would not do me any
this am I was in my pLaypen practicing on how to do a new verson of flying geese.well new to me.
I start with a 7`/4" square.put a 4 " square in the top corner and the bottom corner.draw my diagnial lines down both squares.sew on the lines, cut and open
up.now this looks like a piece is missing. put a 4 " square on the wide part of the funny goose. draw a lines sew cut and you have to flying geese.they come out to the measurement of 3 1/2 by 6 1/2 inches.
easy once you get the hang of it.
now how to do it with smaller geese I have no idea, think mr. fix it could figure it out for me.whydidn't I have these directions out last week on the block for show and tell???because I had not start to cut this pattern out.
ruth make no sew blankets out of the fleece.cut out a square then go down the side cutting strips (like a fringed type thing) then tie the stripe each into a knot or bow.I always sew my blanket in about 4 inches and then started cutting.you might be able to google or you tube for no sew fleece blanket.they were the rage a few years ago.phyl
