States need to be especially careful about voting machines, because everyone's vote should be counted as it was cast. I'm afraid that many states do not allocate the needed money for keeping machines maintained adequately and/or replacing when worn out. Voting is a precious right, and yet so easily it gets pushed to the back burner of importance by officials. It becomes a real issue with the machines, and then don't even get me started about gerrymandering the districts. Republicans in TN have honed gerrymandering to a fine art. If you look at a map of some of the "voting districts" that have been carved out here, you think there must be wrong with your eyesight because some of the areas grouped together make no sense other than that each district covers areas which are primarily Republican.

Thank goodness, ND or at least my county still uses a black pen & paper ballet that is then inserted into a machine. Paper ballots should be mandatory in all states. In case of questionable voting one can then just do an old fashioned eye to paper count. JMHO. Voting is just to important to have these kinds of questions about machines malfunctioning. Have a paper ballot backup as well.

Here's an idea. Get rid of voting machines. Get rid of anything that can be hacked, tampered with, or malfunction. Honestly, do we need a machine that can be hacked by a 10 year old to count our vote? Call me old fashion and paranoid I don't have a problem with either one. lol. How much are we paying for these malfunctioning machines anyway? In our polling place there are at least 10 tables and each table has at least 3 people sitting there to have you sign in. If you don't know how to actually cast your vote they'll explain. After they give you the ballot tucked in a protective sleeve to keep your vote private, yet another waste of money because everybody at that table already knows I'm a registered Democrat. I really don't care what party the gal in front of me is, and the guy in line behind me just wants to get home for dinner. Talk about wasting time and money. Ugh. Why not go back to the old fashion way of voting? Write your vote down on a little piece of paper, place paper in box, have one Democrat and one Republican count the votes together. No malfunction, no hacking, no explaining how to properly fill out ballot and how to use the voting machine. All you need to know is how to write or print, spell, and place a piece of paper into a box. It's a perfect example of K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stupid. lol.

Hi Amyrs! Welcome to the board. It's so nice of you to join us. Looking forward to seeing more of you. It does seem like everyday there's another shooting and yet not one mention, except stupid stuff from the jerk in the WH, about sensible gun control. But, what else is new?
Joyce, what did your family name the puppy? She sounds adorable. I can't remember the last time I had a good whiff of puppy breath. lol. The kids must be so excited. I'm so happy for them and for her that she has a loving home. Enjoy!

Does anybody else see my crow on every single thread? Or, is it just me? I have no idea how the hell that happened or how the hell to get it off. It is more than annoying. Ugh. If anybody knows how to fix it please let me know. Thanks.

I only see it on your posts, Pat.
As for the puppy, yes, she is adorable. Not exactly sure about the name yet. At first it was Cookie, now they're leaning towards Millie, so not sure what they will settle on. For now she is one sweet, happy, little bundle of fur and the kids are crazy about her.
I'm beginning to lose hope that we will ever see sensible gun control in our lifetimes. I hope my grandchildren's generation does a better job than we have done with the world.

You know what? We DO have a "true enemy of the people," and it is this JA masquerading as a president.

I'm so tired of the phrase, "it happens on both sides". NOPE it does not. Peaceful protests not equivalent to bombs, vile comments about the media & other hateful rhetoric. The fact that most Republicans enable & stand by silently or excusing the JA is horrible. I hope Pence"s defense of JA comes back to bite him in the behind.
The next 2 years are going to be horrible. Just wait till Mueller comes out with his report. Either way, its going to further divide people. JA has his supporters so whipped up, that the violence we see now will seem tame to what will happen if Mueller's report is critical or indicts JA of anything.
Next week we will hear 'voter fraud" if the Dems take over the House & if by some miracle they take over the Senate too, it will be all out civil war. UGH!
I heard this morning on MSNBC that JA has a copy of Hitlers speeches on his bed side table. He told people that it was a gift after his divorce from Ivanna, I believe & that he has never read it. But some of the phrases he uses are straight out of that book. Ya, it's probably like a bible to him.
Pat if you want to remove the crow picture, you have to change your profile pic by picking another picture to insert. I think. :-)

Linda, I am so afraid you are right about the violence. The JA does have his base stirred into a frenzy. They are at a mob mentality pitch. Before this JA I would have thought it impossible that we could ever find our country in a civil war again, but this JA could actually achieve that. I think it would make him happy to see that happen because it would make him feel powerful.
Yes, if Democrats take over the House you can bet the farm that you will hear him shouting voter fraud and all his little brainless minions will follow along chanting behind him. And when Mueller's findings do come to light, no matter what they say anything short of absolute praise for the JA will draw a vicious anger from his base. They are completely under his spell.
It is a scary time in our country. I've always felt before that we were strong and secure here. This JA has surely stripped that feeling away. He's a monster, but instead of hiding in the closet he's sitting proudly and arrogantly in the Oval.

I am trying to view this whole era as an extreme test of the founders' vision of our country. I am also trying to believe that our system of government can withstand this. I am getting very tired. When pundits start referencing the U.S. surviving the Civil War, you know things have gotten way out of hand.

Its just not our country. Brazil just elected someone who is like JA. I believe some other countries have moved to the extreme Right as well. I'm waiting for JA to come out & praise the newly elected President of Brazil as a great person & friend of his.:-( Something is changing globally too. If the US isn't strong enough to withstand this change in the world because its happening right here as well & no one is paying attention, this planet is probably doomed.

Yup, feeling very pessimistic today. I will go slap myself silly, drink some tea & come back in a better mood.
Looks like TN, ND & TX are going Republican unless something dramatically changes in the next week.
Ok, off to slap & drink tea.
