Good morning and Happy Monday!!!
Up early as we have to babysit today.
Ruth, hope you can find some good articles on defensive driving. I wonder if AARP also has some articles on the subject also. Just a thought. And yes, its quite something what colors they are now using in baby clothes/afghans. I do like the use of grey, but admit it sure took my eyes time to get used to that.
Meg, hope you got to see Poladark last night!! Glad you were able to see the Royal wedding (wish I had DVR’ed it). Yes the young couple looked lovely and very happy. I have checked out their pictures online. Glad Janet seems comfortable with her cast. I pray that her wrist heals well and quickly without causing her (or you!) much distress.
Straightened myself out on the Christmas ornaments last night....now all should go well. I Hope!!!!
Gotta start getting ready for a long day Ginny

Good morning Ginny and also to CJ, Meg, and Phyl. I hope you all have a great week
Ginny sorry about the snag in the ornaments but it sounds as if you got it all straightened out so I hope it goes smoothly from this point. Have a good day with the grandchild/grandchildren.
It's supposed to be a little warmer here today but so far I don't think it is. I have to go soon to get the license plates for my new car. I think the temporary ones expire today but I don't drive it yet anyway so I don't think that it matters when I get them. I just can't drive it until I do. At least it's not like it was back in NY where I would have to stand in line for hours although sometimes here I do get unpleasantly surprised and there is a line.I found out that my dgs who is right now over in Taiwan wants our old car so we'll hang onto it until he and my ds come for it in the spring. Since it's 19 years old...as is my dgs...I don't know that it will be worth spending his money to fly here but he's young and can learn how to work on cars. I got it from them actually when it became too small for their growing family and now it's going back to them
I have 1 1/2 more of the sections of the shawl to do then weaving in ends and edging and I'll be done with that. I found a nice awareness ribbon headband that I'm also going to make for my friend to send with the shawl. The awareness ribbon is crocheted right in with the rest of the headband and is the same color so it should be pretty easy...famous last words... and I'll make that in teal whichis the awareness color for ovarian cancer.
Well going to go work on the shawl now and figure out what I need to do the rest of today. It's afternoon already

Good evening,
Yes, I got the snag in the ornaments figured out and made decent progress on the first one. Its a snowman with a long striped winter hat, and I got most of the hat done. I figure about 20% of it.....now that I have the hang of this its pretty easy to do. DGD#2 took a long morning nap, so that gave me time to work on the ornament.
Ruth, glad you have a solution for what to do with the old car! How is DGS doing in Taiwan? He is about half way through his year there, right? Yes, NYS DMV are notorious for long lines and slow service. They have streamlined things a bit now, and it is a bit easier. Sometimes. I think the awareness ribbon headband is such a sweet idea- especially if your friend will be needing chemo and might have thinning hair or complete hairloss. A pretty headband might cheer her and help her rally to help her beat this.
Did not sleep well last night. Hope everyone has a great day. Ginny

Ginny, I do hope you get a good night's sleep tonight. I don't know why it is that when we get older we start having sleep problems.
Yes she's already had chemo and has lost all but some fuzz on her head. Most people here opt to shave their heads to avoid the sense of loss when it goes gradually. My friend had a picture on facebook where she had a sort of a headband on and a lot of her friends posted about how good she looked and they're right she does. It always amazed me when my patients lost their hair how good they did look. We all dread the thought of losing ours but sometimes the look is pretty nice. The whole cancer thing is so terrible that any little thing that makes us feel better is a good thing. I've never had it thankfully but I know I'd be terrified. Then there's my evil sister in law that has lied several times and claimed she had cancer and even shaved her head to try to make people believe it...she's sick allright but not physically. Poor woman. You would have to be really desperate for attention to resort to that.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today The weather here is much cooler, in the 50s and 60s. I can't believe it was in the 80s a week ago! I'm enjoying the cooler weather though. I started cutting up some of my father's flannel shirts so I can make the pillowcases. I was surprised to see that a lot of them aren't cotton but are actually acrylic. It doesn't really matter, I just thought that all those men's plaid shirts were flannel cotton. I've been enjoying some of the new shows this season. I like the show "New Amsterdam" that comes on tonight. I've seen mixed reviews on it, but I like it so far. I still watch "This is Us", but sometimes I feel like I could just quit watching it and not care. But I'm invested in the story lines now so I want to see where it goes. There have also been some enjoyable new Hallmark movies on the Hallmark Channel. Hope you all have some new shows that you like. I made a small loaf of homemade bread yesterday and have been enjoying that. I always feel like baking in the fall. Take are everyone!

Good afternoon everyone. I hope you're all having a good day. Looks like everyone is busy and it's great to see you today, CJ. Yes the weather is cooler and we get to use our nice cuddly warm clothing but there are downsides as with anything or any weather. Hot summers you get insects..mosquitoes namely..winter, icy roads, etc. It is warmer here today so maybe will get up in 50's.
CJ, I love to bake in the fall and winter too but my dh really shouldn't be eating a lot of baked goods and I have to use gluten free which to me doesn't make good baked goods at all unless you really get into buying expensive flours to mix together. The premixed stuff just doesn't seem to do it.
Ginny, you asked about my dgs...well it was only 6 months that he was to be in Taiwan so he will be coming home soon.I though he was to come home in Dec but one of his sisters emailed me today in the email mentioned he would be home in two weeks so I guess I was not correct in the timing.
among other things today, I've been working on the shawl. Yesterday I got all the ends woven in and started the edging, the first row of the edging is sc and I used the colors of the shawl to match the sections as I dislike when people do an edging with dark color on light or vice versa and since you have to do it in ends of rows it shows up well and is usually crooked because there's not really anyway to avoid that. So I changed yarn colors as I went across (colors changed only in the very long neck and front edge) which created a lot of new ends that have to be weaved in. There was no way to really crochet over the ends without have the old color show. once the sc row is on then when you put on the other rows you can do any colors you want since you have a nice straight sc row to work into. So I'll get to that weaving in a minute and do a second row of sc then a row all the way around of either a modified picot or reverse sc...haven't decided that yet. Either will be easy. So the shawl should be done today. Many times things don't go according to plan of course but that is the plan. I do have to do some wrapping and packing too.
See you all later

Phyl, your message came up while I was typing I guess. It's great to see you and hear that your sit and sew went a lot better this week with not so many people and their "stuff" taking up so much space. And it's always great when there's that break in the weather so you can have nice clean windows for the winter.Don is a keeper for sure

Good afternoon!! Phyl- oh please, does Don give lessons? Totally agree with Ruth, he is a keeper...and how nice to start the winter with nice clean windows! At least if the windows have to be closed, let them be clean. Bet you are thankful for a more quiet time at the quilt shop. Much easier than a place that is too crowded. Enjoy the warmer temps.... Ruth, so glad you are almost done with the shawl! I agree that running a simple border will help cover the color changes, although I am sure you will do a lovely job of weaving in the ends. Glad that your DGS is coming home soon! Will pray for his safe return and re entry into American society. I am sure he has seen many cultural differences....and has grown from that experience. Again I love the idea of the headband, and am sure your friend will enjoy wearing it with pride- may it be of great comfort to her knowing that you care so much for her. CJ- nothing better than the smell of fall cooking and baking after a hot summer!! I thought of you the other day, my Dd #2 has a friend send her a picture of a sweatshirt that says on the front “This is my Hallmark Channel Christmas Movie Sweatshirt”. Very funny.....Dd and I are already watching some of the movies, knowing that the Christmas ones begin in a few short weeks. When I made the rag quilt from my mom’s blouses, I gave absolutely no thought to the fabric content. I knew that all the blouses were prewashed and would not shrink- the quilts came out just fine, as I am sure your pillows will. Worked this am and babysat this afternoon. Busy day....feel as though I might be getting another cold. Hope to get some time working on the ornaments tonight. Would love to hear from Meg tonight! Ginny

Ginny, I hope you're not getting another cold. I hope you also got some good rest last night and will again tonight. Sounds like you had another busy day. I hope you can relax and maybe work on your ornaments.
The shawl is completely done! I did two rows of sc all around then did a row of the modified picot that I finally decided on. It looks great.
Now I'll probably do the headband tonight. Most headbands don't take any time at all but this has a little more complexity than most as it has that stitched in ribbon which uses sort of a crochet cable stitch. Still I don't think it will take long. Dh mentioned yesterday that he would like another scarf but then he said he didn't want to interfere with the things I need to get done so of course I told him it would be no problem to make him a scarf. Well later he came back and said that he had forgotten about another scarf I had made him so he didn't need another after all. I guess my next project will be starting my dgs' afgan I want to make for him. And of course there's all the little "pick up" things to work on between working on the afgan.
Yes it would be great to hear from Meg tonight. She may be reading. I'm waiting for some on my hold list to become available but the closest one is still 11 days away..unless the person finishes it and returns early. I almost always have them read way early
Have a good night all and get a good rest.

Strange thing happened. I emailed Lion Brand to tell them about the Mandala skein that was missing three of the colors it was supposed to have. So they emailed me back and asked for the lot#, the color#, and my address...some other number too but I forget what it was and where I bought it. That was yesterday. So today I got an email from them saying that they now have given me a $23 credit on their site and free shipping. How they came up with that I'll never know because the yarn only cost $3.79. So now I guess I'll have to check out their site now and decide what yarn or other thing I want to buy from them. Then I'm going to send $23 to St Jude's childrens hospital because I don't really feel that I'm entitled to that money.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today It's beautiful weather here, high 60 and sunny - just a bit windy. It' such a pleasure to have a comfortable feeling inside the house and still have the blinds open. I pulled the window AC unit out of my bedroom window today and put it away. I'm glad to have it out for the year. I want to get some new insulated curtains to put on those windows since a lot of wind comes in around them in the winter. I forgot to put a link for you for the Merry and Bright #10 block last week, I'll put it below. This is a cute block that looks like a piece of Christmas candy and also reminds me of a Christmas Cracker (they are popular in England). I think doing the table runner would be cute, but you can see looking at the blocks you can't use a busy fabric for the candy ends or the shape of the candy kind of disappears. Look at blocks #26 and #32 where they added a cute little bow in the place where the candy wrapper would be twisted: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/2018/10/merry-bright-sew-along-block-free-10.htmlTake care everyone!

Good evening!
Cj- thanks again for posting the link for the Merry and Bright blocks....also cute was #19- by cutting and positioning the ribbon on the fabric the quilter attempted a similar effect. I do think that #26 and #32 better accomplished that, however. Very very cute. Last year I bought some simple (but pretty) insulated draperies at Walmart. Mine are very neutral, sort of a dark sand color....and they do help block out the cold. Hope you are able to find something you like that fits your budget. Congrats on taking out that window AC! (I took mine out about 3 weeks ago). Bet it lets a lot more light in too, which is nice with shorter daylight hours. Enjoy the nice warm but not too hot weather. After the summer you had, this must feel wonderful.
Ruth, well, what an interesting surprise from Lion Brand. So sweet of you to give it back to a charity- I wonder how they calculated such a big refund! How many skeins of Mandala did you buy? Congrats on finishing the scarf!! What color did you use for the border on the edge? You will master that headband, and I can imagine that adding that cable stitch will make things a bit interesting. It will look really lovely when you finish it, I am sure.
Busy day. This am Dh and I went shopping- got some errands done, and then came home. This afternoon I went to the local quilt store with pastor’s wife, where we bought fabric for the table runner class we are taking next month. Her taste is really primative country....I love the fabrics she selected! We each need 6 green fabrics to make the trees, so we both used 2 of the same fabrics. I am also very happy with my fabrics...think both table runners will be really pretty. On the demo table runner that they had in the store had little bows on each tree, similar to the bows on the 2 blocks that CJ mentioned earlier. Boy am i doing a crummy job describing that.....but hope you can make some sense of it.
Happy to be home....its going to get really cold here, so I started pulling in my outside plants. Still have 2 left outside, and will get them in tomorrow. We have several nights coming that are going to be below freezing.
Got a funny story.....I have a HUGE orange tree, that somehow we manage to get in the house each fall. My mom had a lemon tree, which only once when she was alive produced lemons. When she moved near me, in assisted living facility, the tree did not do well, her room had 2 large windows but they were shaded. So I brought her beloved tree here and pruned the dickens out of it. (Which frustrated her to no end, she thought I killed it). Fast forward it to now....the tree has grown a bit, and I looked at it awhile ago, thinking that well, maybe I would let the tree go. The irony is, the tree now has 3 lemons on it!!! So, I brought it inside....the one lemon is actually starting to ripen.
Worked on the ornament for awhile....and yes, I am getting a cold.
Sleep well all. Ginny

CJ, it's good to see you. I think getting insulated curtains is a great idea. I really need to do that also. I was wondering the other day about the quilt squares for this week.. Thank you for posting the link. I do love the two you mentioned and also #17. Some of the others are really nice too but some are, as you said, just too busy and the candy does get lost. I do need to go back there and look at some of the previous week's blocks because some we went early and didn't see many.Good work in getting that air conditioner out of the window. Ours, sadly, is still in the window. This week and next we're having a warm spell so dh should just get busy and do that.
Ginny, great to see you too. It sounds as if you had a busy day also. But I know it was enjoyable to join the pastor's wife in looking for fabric for the table runner. Is this a Christmas themed table runner? Yes that IS funny about the lemon tree. Just as you are ready to let it go it produces fruit. I'm sorry to hear you actually do have a cold. I hope it's soon gone.
I haven't gotten much done on the headband. I spent much of the day wrapping and packing. I intended to do the gifts for only the one dgs and one dgd but then decided to do the ones for the other dgs and for ds. So they are all wrapped and packed but then I realized I forgot to put in two of the pairs of fingerless gloves so I have to open one of the boxes and slip those in. I have all the presents in there, all the fingerless gloves and the Christmas tree skirt all in two boxes. This is going to cost me a bit. So now I want to finish that headband for sure so that I can pack it and the prayer shawl up and take it to the post office too since they closed the post office that was in the grocery store and the nearest now is in a very inconvenient place and the others are on the other side of town.AT least I don't have to rush to DMV for new plates because dh read it wrong and the temp plate doesn't expire till the middle of Nov, not Oct as he thought
Yes I don't know how Lion came to $23. It's strange. I went to their site but didn't see anything I want right now..
