Just read the transcript of the eulogy George W Bush lovingly delivered for his father. What a loving speech.....brings tears to my eyes....

I watched the service this morning and was deeply touched.
The low is supposed to be -2 tonight. I'm planning to go to quilting tomorrow. At least the road between here and there will be clear, even if it's bitterly cold!

Ginny, how old is the baby now, could she be teething ? I am sure you are keeping warm I don't think I could live in a very cold climate anymore. Prince Charles did represent the Queen at the memorial service and as the queen is in her 90s we will see Prince Charles and the younger members of the Royal family taking over her duties. But do not expect her to retire. I am sure she will reign until she dies.
cj, I checked out the web site you posted and the quilts are beautiful. I hope you manage to avoid the snow a little longer. If you get snowed in you can do some quilting. I am sure that web site you posted will give you some inspiration.
Ruth I wasn't tempted by the sale bins at Michaels yester day. I have managed to get my stash down quite a bit.
Sue, I hope you are keeping warm.
Now I a, off to work on the afghan I have started for DD.
Good night.

I was thinking teething also. And also, babies are just like us in that we all have our bad days.
Meg, great job on avoiding the bins. Unfortunately my stash just keeps growing. I never have the yarn I need for a certain project so I end up hacving to get more. Once I really get going on my neckwarmers, mittens and hats for next winter's donatons I should be able to use up a bit. I had planned to set aside one day a week for that but that didn't really happen. I got a few pairs of mittens and fingerless gloves done for this winter but no special day.
A couple weeks ago I saw that Lion had a sale on what they call secret Santa bag of yarn. I thought it was a good deal so I ordered some. Well I got one last night. It was one of the boxes that was delivered very late in the evening. I was really disappointed in it becaue you got 9 skeins of yarn and I got 3 of homespun...just what I need. you know how we all don't like homespun. It is a nice color though. 3 others were wool spun which was exactly the same as what I ordered awhile back when Lion had it for $1same color and all. This yarn came to $1.25, the last three were funfur...who uses funfur anymore. Several years ago I donated a huge bag of it.I ordered three of these things so I sure hope the other two are not exactly the same as this one.
I had a long message before and when I tried to send this site said they were having problems and the message disappeard.
I did go to the quilt page and three of them are really nice. I live #32, 14, and the other I can't remember. I think it may be number 2.Some are nice because they don't overwhem the quit with too many of the blocks. They used only one of each and put some nice other blocks in between.Just saw your post, Ginny, yes sashing made the difference.
I watched bits and pieces of the funeral. I saw the ceremony at the Houston airport. I saw all the presidents but I didn't see Prince Charles.I was particularly impressed by the Bush family mingling with the people at the capitol yesterday.
Meg, I dont know if poor Charles is ever going to be King because I think the Queen is going to live forever.
On Monday I was planning on making those two earwarmers but as you know I had a yarn tangling problem. Well when I finally got it all untangled I forgot that I was going to do the earwarmer and started the neckwarmer instead. So yesterday I finished the neckwarmer and made the other earwarmer so was on schedule.Today I did the earwarmer for the youngest dgd that live here in town. I had made one thhe other day but didn't like it so I took it apart. Then I was going to work on the cowl but never got to that.I can't finishe it completely because I don't have enough yarn so will do that when the order for more of that yarn to get here. Then I'll work on putting that doll together and making the hood thing for dggd
Meg, what pattern did you choose for Janet's afgan?

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - I agree that the Queen will never abdicate, she'll serve until her death. It is good to see the younger members stepping up and taking on more of her duties. I wanted to let you all know that I saw that a new season of The Great American Baking show starts tonight on ABC at 9:00 P.M. (EST). I know some of you enjoyed the British version so you might like this one too. It's cloudy and cold here today, but I went out earlier and ran a few errands. I got home in time to see the funeral service today, which was very moving and inspirational. I admire the Bush family very much in how they have conducted themselves and all the plans for these services. I also commend the military, especially the honor guard, for all their hard work and service. Take care everyone!

Was today the one that George Strait participated in. I didn't get up in time to watch it or else I didn't turn the tv on in time.
Very cold here too. When I went to bed it was already down to 10 so don't know what it got down to but dh put on the lights that keep the pipes from freezing.

Ruth, I am sorry you were disappointed in the box of yarn you got from Lion's sale. I saw that offer but decided not order it because I am trying to get rid of my stash. Even though I had a lot of the Vanna yarn I had to buy some more because I wanted a nice selection of colors that would coordinate. I am not all that great at selecting colors that blend well. That's why I like Pinterest I can go there and check out the patterns and there are some great colors to select from. I don't have a pattern for Janet's afghan. I am doing rows of V stitch which makes it easy. I started it and didn't make it wide enough so I have started it again. I worked on it last night and hopefully I will work on it tonight. Prince Charles said once that he was not anxious to be King because that would mean that his mother had died. Queen Elizabeth's mother was over 100 when she died. I am glad you are keeping the house warm to protect your pipes from freezing. It can get cold enough here in Dec to freeze pipes.
cj, I am glad you will be able to watch your baking show. I wonder if they will make a British fruit cake. The British fruit cakes are different from the American fruit cakes. I do have some of my mother's recipes and I should try one. The problem is I am probably the only one who would eat it. My family don't like fruit cake American or British. I didn't watch the funeral service today but I am sure I will be able to watch some of it later.
Have a good evening and keep warm.

Good evening.
Being a bear of little brain, lets see if I can keep up with this.
Ruth, wow it got cold where you live!! That is so frustrating that you got 3 skeins of the infamous Homespun yarn, its so pretty but such a bear to work with. That stinks that you do not have enough yarn for the cowl. Will you attempt to start another cowl with another yarn, or try to get more yarn?
CJ- thanks for the heads up on the GBBS! Thats awesome, nice too that its being picked up by ABC- well yes its the GABS. Lets hope its just as much fun as the British show. And yes, I also do not think that Charles will become king- not while the Queen is alive. I am greatly impressed by her ability to slowly move with the times- unfortunately it took Diana’s passing to force her to change a bit.
Meg, what color and pattern are you using for Dd’s afghan?? DGD is 8 months old- and her mom was 10 months old when she got her first tooth. Yesterday I bought some really good teething cookies for her. They are very firm- good to bite on.
Got some work done today on the table runner, the binding is pretty much all sewn in on one side and now just needs to be attached on the other side. I am looking forward to working on potholders as Christmas gifts.

Meg, you probably sell yourself short with regard to how you pick yarn colors. Styles and colors change too- and its always neet to see what new color combinations are popular. G

Ginny, I'll probably eventually make some knitted rectangular prayer shawls with the homespun. You can just knit row after row...garter stitch...and it's easy and they do come out looking really nice and they feel great but I'm really slow at knitting but I could just keep it handy for doing while watching tv.
CJ the baking show sounds good. If dh takes a nap at that time which will be 8 here I'll watch it. Can't dvr because it's on local channel so I have to switch to antenna.
Meg, I agree with Ginny. I think you underestimate yourself. When I was going to Caps for Kids the leader had a large picture of hats make with colors you would have never thought would go together but they did. Red Heart has a chart like that too. Before that the leader gave me som navy blue and lime green to make a hat. I thought it would look awful but it actually looks great and then the Seattle Seahawks football team started using those colors.
Ginny, I already have that yarn on order so should be getting it soon and can finish the cowl.
Another thing I'm putting on my list is scrunchies. I am a member of a "crochet club" on facebook and its mostly made up of young women who crochet and sell at craft fairs. They say that scrunchies have come back into favor and that they sell tons of them. One woman even sells a bunch of ugly scrunchies that are just one row of sc around those elastic hair holders for $3 apiece to a boutique and said they go like hotcakes.Ginny, you gave me a pattern for them but it was among those I lost so I'll have to find more. The young women on fb showed some of theirs that are made with the new Bernat velvet yarn. They're beautiful but it Looks too much to me like homespun and chenille rolled into one so I bet it's also very hard to work with and I'm NOT going to buy any more yarn.
When my dd was a baby she didn't get any teeth at all until she was one. I kept telling everyone I was going to have to get her a tiny pair of dentures.

Well I just went to Amazon and it says the yarn won't be here till Dec 24th so guess I'll have to go to a different yarn. I know they had some at Joann's for a good price but now there isn't free shipping and the shipping costs more than the yarn.

Morning all!
Ruth, there is a shot that the yarn might arrive more quickly than you think. I ordered something that was supposed to take 2 weeks, and it arrived in 3 days. I figured it was the company gearing up for holiday shipping and trying to get the orders out quickly. Anyway, I am sure you will work something out. I found the scrunchie pattern on allfreecrochet.com- and am happy to send it to you if you like.
Cold here this am......Dh wants to go for a walk, we will wait another hour for it to warm up a bit more. Got the binding sewn on- except for the final part where the two tails join together. Will finish that this am and then start sewing in the other side. Glad I am able to use those wonder clips, that I bought at the LQS for a small fortune (used them for a class and used a gift card to buy them.). My rotating cutting mat arrived yesterday. I am anxious to put that to use, want to make a bunch of Christmas pot holders as gifts.
Hope that CJ got to watch the GABS.....and that it was as good as the British one! I am interested in her opinion.....I felt too crummy last night to watch and ended up going to bed early. Ginny

Good afternoon Ginny.. I hope you're feeling better today. How nice that you were able to get that binding on part of the table runner and may be able to do the rest today.I hope you had a good walk with your dh.I bought some of those clips too but they were very inexpensive. They're excellent though and have helped me even in my crocheting. I tried to buy a new mat but I think the company realized they were charging too little because after I put in my order they emailed with some lame excuse about finding their mats were defective and they didn't want to burden me with a defective mat so cancelled my order...sure, right.
I was thinking the same thing about the yarn but I did start another one last evening. I didn't get far though because somehow the stitches didn't come out straight and match like they should have so I quit and read instead. I think it may have been the old "crochet in the first stitch" thing.. I never know which one they're referring to...the very first stitch where the turning chain is or the one next to it. some indicate this by saying the turning chain doesn't cound as a stitch, or it does count as a stitch. Then some actually make it real clear and say to start in the same stitch as the turning chain. This morning had a bunch of things to do. It's terrible how these chores get in the way of our crafting.
I didn't see the baking show after all because just at 8 dh came in and watched his programs. I'm sure if I told him I'd like to watch the baking show he would have said to go ahead but there were other things I could do.Then at 9 he decided to take a little nap.

Phyl, I will definitely be prayer for safe travel for you for both going there and home and also for your sister (or is it your dh's sister). I can think of a multitued of things it could be. We jand only guess. You ladies won't believer it! Well I'm sure you would, but I actually found two more skeins of the yarn I need for the infinity scarf so I can work on it after all . Even if I can't completley finish it with what I have now I will sure have a lot more done by the time the orderd yarn gets here and I can use the extra yarn to make things for the family members in In since they like teal so much I found a fantastic baby blanket pattern online the other evening. It looks so complicated but is so easy. I've put it on my to do list ( along with the ohter gazillion projects on there. Ginny, I'm going to go to all free to see if I can find the scrunchy pattern.
