Phyl, of course I will pray for Donβs sister- and for safety while you travel. My SIL has had many medical issues, and she also tends not to provide any details unless absolutely necessary. Of course that is frustrating, especially for Don, who probably is worried about his sister and would like to at least see her. Anyway, I will pray about this and that her health issue passes or can be controlled. Hope you finish that pink cable scarf! Sounds like it is the bane of your existance. Think we all have had projects like that.
Ruth, glad you found a nice baby blanket pattern! Always nice to have a good pattern waiting for when you need it....let me know about that scrunchy pattern. It was easy for me to find. Isnt that great that you found some more yarn! Now you can finish the project and still have more of a beautiful color to work with.
Took our youngest cat to the vet- waiting for bloodwork to come back. THe poor thing was terrified the whole time..I felt so badly for her. We should have her bloodwork back tomorrow. Speaking of getting things early, a floor cabinet for the bathroom that I ordered arrived today! We have a small bathroom downstairs, with limited storage. Found this cabinet on Walmart- and it was supposed to arrive NEXT Friday. It came today, and I put it together. Love the cabinet, even Dh likes it. I did get the ends of the binding closed on the table runner, now just have to clip or pin it in place and finish.. Part of me wants to machine finish it, so that I can start on my potholders next. Took out fabric for the potholders too... I was supposed to work this am, and opted not to. Gee, I am retired and really owe them nothing. For 17 years I dragged myself into work no matter how sick- took lots of cold meds (non drowsy), tylenol or immodium so I could drive. Now that I am retired, I see no reason to drag myself in. So I stayed home....and let the headache resolve without meds.
Enough babbling from me have a good night Ginny

Ginny, I'm glad you opted to say home and allow your headache to go away on it's own. It's nice to hear that you have the binding all in place and ready to sew.Speaking of potholders, one of the people on the crochet group on fb said she sold a woman one potholder for $40...yes forty dollars!. The woman liked them so much that she bought another and said she was going to buy more after Christmas. If I coulld sell potholders for that much I'm be making them day and night. Is your little kitty sick or is this just an exam and routine blood work...or do they even do routine blood work on cats and dogs?
Yes it's not like I don't already have all those baby blankets waiting for edging and three waiting to be completed. I still have both the one you sent me the pattern for Ginny and also the one that I started in what the pattern designer called the cabbage patch stitch and one other.

Those must have been some very special potholders that sold for $40! Were they crochetted? Do not blame you for wanting another baby blanket pattern waiting for use- sometimes its just nice having a good go to pattern ready. And something different to provide variety.
Yes, they will do routine bloodwork on pets....but this kitty has lost weight and has lost her fur in one spot. She is our youngest cat, but even at 13 is not young. Hoping this is nothing major.

good morning friends,
I need to go through the few things I have for the ky family.NATHAN has a few presents. will get him an armour under gift card when we get there. can't find them here. on line they do not have a number I can call. will not put my c.c online. on line sites might be ok. just not sure I trust my computer. they don't give a number they don't get my business.
ruth have you ever heard of a medical condition called giant cell arthritis, also know as cell temporal arthritis. I was talking to a quilting buddy at kohl's last night .she is having infushions for it.this condition can affect your eyes, makes you see double.
then we talked about backs.she had some back reconstruction.she had to go to univ. wis hospital in madison. never knew they could do such a thing.she has bolts and rods in her back.she said that is how she could stand and talk to me.
amazing what the medical field can do.
enjoy your saturday.get some crafting in. least try. oh I hated homespun also.phyl

Phyl, I hope you have a safe trip and that Don's sister''a medical problem has some solution.
I was tested for giant cell arteritis. The procedure used is a biopsy of the temporal artery. The ophthalmologist I was seeing was excellent and was able to think outside the box. I didn't have it. What finally helped was prescription blue lenses in my glasses. They've been the difference between having ocular migraines when the angle of the sun is low in the spring and fall and being okay. My light sensitivity was much worse after I had the concussions six years ago.
I finished part 3 of my delinquent record keeping and saw the CPA yesterday. Now I'm taking a two week break. It's time to read, listen to Christmas music, and do some crafty things! Grocery shopping is the only shopping I plan to do! My last CPA appointment is in January.

Phyl, yes I've heard of it. It's also called temporal arteritis. Yes they can do amazing things but have been putting rods, screws, and bolts in people's spines and elsewhere for many years. Now they have even better ways of restoring function of joints even replacing tiny joints in fingers.
It's a little warmer here. Up to 36.
Sue I'm glad to hear that you're going to be able to just take it easy for a couple weeks and enjoy the Christmas season.
The pattern Im working on isn't working out right for me so to plan B.
See you all later

Hi all, I'm new to this area of the forum, but I've been sewing for over 40 years! I've been trying to learn to knit for 8 years. It's going slowly. Ha!
This week I sewed myself and my two girls (daughter and daughter-in-law) Christmas aprons for our cookie-baking day next weekend. They will be surprised. Today I am going to make my little dog a coat. I've made them before but am never sure about which size to use. Does anyone know about sizing for dog coats? I know what bits of the dog to measure, I'll just have to measure the pattern and figure it out. They give measurements on the pattern, but they don't say what the measurement is - if it's length or around the chest.
After the dog coat, I am going to bind a length of polar fleece to make a blanket. It's a blanket for a toddler and the fleece print was perfect. Trucks! That's all the Christmas sewing I have planned.
More about me - I primarily sew clothing. I am not a quilter. Tried it. Hated it. Since I've lost weight, I am more excited about sewing clothing for myself. I have a pant sloper that I use to make pants that fit and that is what I need most now. I have been fortunate enough to be able to take in some of the tops I had made previously, so pants are the biggest need. I live in the desert southwest where the summers are hotter than hell and the winters are moderate, so I don't have much need for heavy coats.
Anybody else sew clothes or are you mostly quilters?

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - I agree that the Queen will never abdicate, she'll serve until her death. It is good to see the younger members stepping up and taking on more of her duties. I wanted to let you all know that I saw that a new season of The Great American Baking show starts tonight on ABC at 9:00 P.M. (EST). I know some of you enjoyed the British version so you might like this one too. It's cloudy and cold here today, but I went out earlier and ran a few errands. I got home in time to see the funeral service today, which was very moving and inspirational. I admire the Bush family very much in how they have conducted themselves and all the plans for these services. I also commend the military, especially the honor guard, for all their hard work and service. Take care everyone! We really enjoy The Great British Baking Show and have enjoyed the American Baking Show also.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today hallian - Welcome to the group. I always wanted to be a sewer, but was never very good at it. Those Christmas aprons sound so cute, what a neat idea. Here's a link to an article, with pictures, about measuring for dog coats, maybe it will help you: www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Dog-CoatPhyl - I hope you have a safe trip and that your SIL will get better. Ginny - I did enjoy the American Baking show, it was close to the British one and I thought some of the desserts were very well done. I hope your headache is better today and that your kitty is alright too. Ruth - Glad you found the extra yarn. I wish you could sell your potholders for $40 Meg - Hope the weather is nice where you are and you're getting some knitting and reading done. Sue - I'm glad you are taking a break from the recordkeeping to enjoy Christmas things. I had a busy day yesterday. I went with a family member to the Amish Market in the morning, and bought some treats. They also have a cored pineapple they sell there and I bought one this time, it is very good. And I like to buy some of the dry pasta they sell - this time I'm trying a new kind (to me) - fine noodles. They are very slim, like string. I'm cooking some in the homemade chicken noodle soup I'm making today. I've been working on this soup for a couple hours! Too much work for lazy me I tried a half recipe of some slick (flat) dumpling, in a portion of the soup, but they didn't turn out too well - too heavy. Yesterday afternoon I put gas in my car and also had the oil changed, I'd been putting that off. I also found some boxed (Betty Crocker) Gingerbread mix that I like to get each year at Christmas. I just make it in a 9x9 pan, it's a Christmas tradition for me. The weather here has been cold, but sunny. It looks like I'll miss the heavy snow that southern Virginia and North Carolina will be getting, and I'm fine with that. I need to spend this weekend making lists of what I have to do for Christmas. I've bought most of the gift cards I need, and have the cash for those I give that too. Now I need to start working on my cards. This is the time in December where I start to get really stressed out and just wish I didn't have to send any cards or buy any gifts. It really can take the pleasure out of the holiday for me. Hopefully I'll get it all done and can relax again. Take care everyone and enjoy your weekend!

Hallian, welcome to the thread. The aprons sound wonderful and what a great thing to make for use in baking your Christmas cookies. I do know how to sew but sure am not all that good at it. I once...probably back on 1972 or so, made myself a dress and I thought it was good but it really wasn't. I did make dresses for my dgd's to wear in their mother's (my dd's) wedding. The little one I made was amazing. The other two didn't actually end up fitting completely like they should have but they were still beautiful. and my sewing machine cooperated. Did a lot of prayers of thanks for that one.Basically I can knit but I'm not expert by any means and I'm very slow at it. I crochet a lot for my 14 grandchildren and 3 great grands and some things for my dh and now and then maybe something for a friend.I don't know anything at all about making clothing for dogs. And congratulations on losing weight. It's a great feeling to have to buy or make new clothing because of weight loss. And here in Wyoming we do need coats...very warm coats CJ, I haven't heard you mention the Amish market for quite awhile I'm glad you got some treats. I don't think I ever noticed boxed gingerbread before. I use to love when my mother made gingerbread and served it with lemon sauce.I'm glad you're going to miss the snow. I have relatives and a friend in NC where they're supposed to get significant snow soon. I made chicken soup also but dont have it finished yet. I still have to add noodles and peas. I actually made the other part yesterday and since I had a bunch of apples I made some apple strawberry crisp Ginny, no that potholder, although very pretty, was nothing special..Just a two layer crochet potholder which she did, for the front, in Buffalo plaid in two purples and black(plaid is actually very easy) and the back layer was black. Normal potholder size also. Guess that means that set of hotpads and potholders I made for the neighbor must have been worth about $200.Sure.Some other people posted today about prices. One woman made an ugly throw the size of a baby blanket and sold it for $110 then others spoke up and said she charged way too little. One said she made one but full size and sold it for $400. She didn't say what yarn she used but she did say the customer was grateful and said she could charge twice that. I started the other pattern today and I'm nearly done. I've been abandoning a lot of patterns lately. There are just too many nice ones to waste time trying to work out the kinks in the patterns that have them. I don't have time for challenges right now. After Christmas and birthdays I can work on challenging patterns again.

Good evening!
Phyl, my BIL and SIL are like you and do not like to put their credit card online. I am sure you have a plan to buy the gift cards when you get to Kentucky. Bet you are looking forward to the trip!
Sue - congrats on getting a lovely break - so now you can focus on Christmas. I am sure you will be thrilled when this work with the CPA is all over. Hope that your next visit with the CPA is your last and that you can spend some time in crafting.
Ruth- plan B is why we all have several patterns for baby afghans. (Do you remember how many different patterns I went through a year and a half ago?). I am sure you will find a really nice pattern that is not diffucult to follow. Your crochet skills are excellent, but some of the patterns are just not easy to follow. I agree, now is not the time to take on a big challenge. Wait till after Christmas.
CJ- glad you got to an Amish market! Guess you will not be making that chicken soup recipe again. I know you were not happy with the noodles, but was the soup good? SO glad you enjoyed the GABS!! A good TV show is something nice to look forward to. I will have to check it out next week. Glad you missed the snow....I am with you and hope to get my lists set soon so I can get done what I need to do before Christmas.
Welcome Hallian!! Yes those aprons sound adorable, and I am sure you will make a great memory baking with your DD and DDIL wearing them. Last year I was also looking for a dog coat pattern, glad CJ found one for you. (I was going to make a dog coat for my friends dog). So glad you joined us - hope you stop back in!
Finished the table runner. As far as Hallian goes, I quilt, but also do take on garments and home decorating items. Some of our kitties blood work came back, her liver enzymes are elevated. Waiting for the rest of the blood work results and am hoping its not something serious.
See you tomorrow Ginny

Boy, I just re read some of my post, guess I did not sound very awake.
Dh wants to go out today, so today will be busy for me. Dd#2 and I will attenc church, then I will come home and pick up Dh and go out. Gotta plan my crock pot dinner so that I am not in a crunch to cook later on.
Glad Hallian reminded me of the GABS that CJ found for us! I will have to check it out, although I will most likely record it as Mondays are long days for me.
Have a great day! Ginny

The dogs went out about an hour ago, and I have crawled back into bed to wait for the house to warm up! It's 12 degrees outside.
There is at least one rabbit in the backyard. The trails it leaves are fun to watch. Of course, the woofers try to track it. The rabbit is faster and can get through the gates.
In the front yard, the deer have created a trail. Occasionally one will break away from the trail to browse on something in the yard. Most of the remaining crab apples are too high. The flocks of Bohemian waxwings stop by now. When I go into town, there are several fields where the elk herd leaves large areas of tracks.
Christmas is for the birds this year. I bought some suet cakes and a new feeder I think the chickadees will like. One day this week I'm going to make some bird friendly garlands for the juniper tree in front of the deck.
Welcome, Hallian! . I used to make all my own clothing. My daughters are a year apart in age, and sewing for them was a delight. Then I had to go back to work, and I was going to graduate school, so Time was a problem. By the time I retired I was interested in quilting and exploring other crafty endeavors. Everything seemed to revolve around texture and color. Sometimes fiber, sometimes plants.
The house is warm, so I'm off to the kitchen for a second cup of coffee and some breakfast!

Ginny, yes I did find a repacement pattern and got the whole thing done except the weaving in of the ends.. Now I'm working on the matching earwarmer and got a couple rows done this monring before household demands took me away from my crocheting.I think the earwarmer only has five rows so it will be done fast and I can start on dggb's little "mousie" hood and finish that doll I may change to mouse to a bear or puppy. The pattern would be easily changed to whatever animal you want it to be.
Sue, I don't know much about identifying birds although I'd like to.I can identify the northern flickers which are a huge pain although pretty birds, the Orioles, Robins of course, and Asian doves and the magpies and the hummers but I'm not even sure which kind they are.Not much else. When we traveled to Arkansas each year we were able to see a lot of really amazing birds
CJ, I'm glad you like the soup. Nothing lieke a nice chicken soup in cold weather.
Hallian, I do hope you'll join us frequently. Ginny and Sue I think are the most multi talented and CJ may be there too or a close second. They all quilt which I would love to be able to do because I do love the looks of quilts. Oh and I almost forgot Phyl, she quilts, sews, knits and crochets also.I think both Ginny and CJ embroider too and many other things. My skills are limited to the crocheting, tiny bit of knitting and very little sewing.
I made my dh's yearly pecan tarts. Now that should raise his blood sugar a lot. Probably should move the A1c appt to end of March instead of end of Feb.
