Good morning and happy new week to all So Ginny, is the table runner all done now? I did finish dgs' neck warmer and will try to get his and his dads earwarmers done today. And since they don't take long maybe I can start the dad's neckwarmer too. We'll see how things go. Ginny, I know you like colder weather but right now I'm hating it. Spring is a very long way away too

Hello Crafters - Hope you are doing well today
We had beautiful weather here today, sunny blue skies and temps near 60, with a bit of a breeze. If you are watching the coverage of President Bush coming back to DC, you can see how nice it was in the area. We are having a beautiful sunset too.
It may sound strange, or maybe not, but I really like watching the coverage of state funerals like this. I appreciate the ceremony of it, the military presence and traditions, music, etc. I'll be on Wednesday too. The Bush family is very fortunate to have so many in the family and I hope they are all there to support each other.
If you saw the plan arrive at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, you'll have seen the base where I worked for part of my career. I always felt proud to work on the "Nation's Base".
I went with family today to the cemetery where my parents, my grandmother and her husband, my aunt and uncle and great aunt and great uncle are all buried and we put out the Christmas flowers. It was a nice day to go and so pretty to see all the Christmas flowers on display.
Take care everyone!

Good evening,
CJ- hope that you found good companionship and comfort with your family getting the family graves decorated for Christmas. I am glad you did not have to take that on alone, it would be such a lonely process indeed. Truly a blessing that you were able to see the beauty in all the Christmas flowers, its nice knowing that others also are experiencing the same feelings. Indeed, it is an honor that you workied on the “Nations Base”. That does make watching the coverage of President Bush’s final ceremony (s) extra special- as you actually know how the area is and have been there many times. I will watch as much of the coverage as I can- today was not the day to do so as I baby sat all day.
Phyl- I do not blame you one bit for cutting back on activities just before you travel. There is so much to do to get ready to leave home- even for a few days. Glad you got everything back neatly after your search!! Nice too that you are all set for a donation. What a nice way to start a new year.- donating items you will no longer use.
Sue- stay warm!!!! 17 degress is cold for early December.
Ruth, were you able to finish the earwarmers?
Nope, the table runner will not be done for a few days. Got more decorative stitching to do and then the binding. Last night had to refresh my memory on bindings. I do not do all that many.
DGD#2 and DGS were wonderful today- easy to sit for . Dh stayed home as he has a bad cold. I had the kids outside a lot today- so they both napped well for me. Off to Bible study in a litlte bit Ginny

CJ, I'm glad you were able to go to the cemetery and decorate the graves and remember all your family who are now deceased and were able to do it with the support of the rest of the family as you also supported them.I didn't watch President Bush being taken to Washington or the capitol. Just didn't think of it but Im sure they'll have reruns.I'm glad it was nice weather for you to go the cemetary also
Phyl, no I wouldn't be going out this week either. Took me forever to get ready for just our two day and then three day trips. Also it Christmas time now too. Will you see this part of your family again on Christmas? I need to go through my linen closet again too. I think that things in there multiply. I had given away all my unneeded linens etc to my dd a few years back but there is still too much in there. For instance table cloths I never use.And I have way more bath towels than I need.
Ginny, well you will get that table runner done and those ornaments too. I'm glad the little ones were good for you and that you were able to get them outside to get some exercise and outdoor fun. Good exercise for everyone.
Sue, on the weather channel they said in your area it was 33. These weather forecastors don't seem to get it right much of the time. For here they said low tonight will be 15 with 20% chance of rain...really?? Rain at 15 degrees?
No I would have finished the earwarmers except I had to spend a great deal of time working on untangling yarn. For the earwarmers for dgs I used pound of love in gray and black. Gray skeing was ok but on the black I couldn't find an end to pull so resorted to what we all resort to when finding no end on a supposed pull skein....Reached inside and pulled what I hoped would at least be close to an end...it wasn't. I got a HUGE blob of what some call yarn vomit and it was seriously tangled. I still don't have it all straightened out. There's still time to make the other if I can get the rest of this detangled which I think I can do soon.I have dgs' all done but a little bit of edging.

It's sunny, but the high today was 27! The streets are mainly clear, until you turn on to a side street! The sidewalks are mainly clear, but there is ice lurking here and there. Our street is icy even think it was plowed. Our driveway is icy. It's called walk with caution.
This morning I went to the caregivers group. I always feel better when I leave there. All of the spouses have dementia, but each one is a different type. I wish the group met oftener than once a month, but truthfully, we don't have enough free time to meet more often.
Afterwards I picked up some things from the supermarket. I can probably make it through the weekend now. If not I'll be in town on Friday.
I found the missing nutcracker and the pencil Christmas tree that fits so nicely in the corner. They were in a storage room under the house. hb's caregiver was here so he carried the groceries and tree upstairs for me. He had a final in organic chemistry today and wasn't feeling very optimistic. I sent him home a little early. He set up the tree and put it in the corner for me.
The dogs are snugly for now. They have an internal alarm that goes off when their dinnertime approaches!

Sue it sure is nice of the caregiver to help you out also. He sounds like a very nice young man and I hope he does well in his final. Please be careful on the ice. You sure don't want to fall and hit your head again nor break anything. I'm sure the caregivers group is a great comfort. It's nice to have people around that you know completely understand what you're going thru.
I haven't accomplished much today. I did a very little crocheting then of course had to look at patterns some more...as if I don't have enough already but there are certain categories I do have to repenish after having lost all my bookmark files.
I just got back from the mailbox. Dh has been buying a lot of bargains mostly for the little grandchildren and the dggc. Some for himself too and a couple things for me. It was so cold. I can't even say I can't wait till spring because it's so depressing to think of how far away that is.I think we should move to Arizona. I wouldn't move to Florida...too humid and too many bugs. I really liked Arizona when I was there one time for a work conference and that was in Phoenix so Im sure there are parts of Az that are even better. The only bad thing is my allergies flared up while I was there. Most of our packages have been delivered to our door but a lot are sent to the mailboxes and put in one of their lockers.
ok going to go crochet

Hello fellow crafters, It is a dull overcast day here and there is rain in the fore cast. Temp will be in the mid 50s this week. I just got back from a trip to Michael's where I bought some Vanns yarn. I have quite a lot of Vanna yarn ut I needed some different colors. So I will re start the afghan for DD as the one I started need to be a wee bit wider. This will not be ready for Christmas but she will be happy to get it any time. Michael's was busy though they were scanning our purchases before we got to the registers and helped move us along faster. I was going to go to Target but forgot what I wanted there so came home. I usually make a list before I leave home but forgot to do that today.
phyl, good for you cleaning out your linen closet and staying home to get ready for your trip.
cj, How nice to be able to go as a family group to decorate the family graves. I am sure your decorations will help brighten up the cemetery. I will be doing that before Christmas. I just have my DHs grave to decorate. The decorations do look wonderful at Christmas time. The nice thing about working or living on an AFB is that you can go to the flight line to see special people arriving. I was able to see President & Mrs Nixon when he flew into Sioux City AFB and Queen Elizabeth & Prince Phillip when they arrived and departed at Bent Waters RAF station in England.
Ginny, I am glad you are enjoying baby sitting. I hope your DH feels better soon. Hope you get your table runner finished.
Ruth, I hope you get all your ear warmers and scarves finished and off in the mail. Do you have snow. I hope you are keeping warm. With the rain we had recently we have leaves everywhere. My DS is slow about getting the yard work done at the moment. You mentioned getting rid of old towels. I have taken my old towels to the animal shelter where they can use them.
DS was telling me this morning about one of the schools that he goes to in our area. That when a class was on a field trip a bully injured another child so badly that he wound up in ICU. Apparently the mother of the injured child was so upset that the school didn't do anything about it that they are going to have an independent investigation. The bully has not been suspended that I know of. Devin does not go to school in that school district. I think I would be really mad in a situation like that.
Sue, You deal much better with the extreme cold than I would. I am glad you had someone to help you with the heavy lifting. I get my DS to help me when we do our big grocery shopping.
I wish you all a good evening. Stay warm.

Meg, it's great to see you. It's a good think I don't have a Michael's or a Joann's here. I do enough damage ordering online. Nice thing about goinng to the stores though is often they have a clearance section and you can get some good buys.
That is horrible about that bully injuring that other child. Why wasn't the child that did the injuring arrested? if he's very young he should be in the juvenile justice system and they should evaluate why he does these things and keep him separated from other children. I'm glad Devin doesn't go to that school. If I were the parent of the injured child I would sue the parents if nothing else was done and I would really like to do bodily harm to that bully even though as a Christian we are taught not to do that but as a parent or grandparent I would sure want to.

Ruth, are you serious about relocating to Arizona? (Somehow I think not). Yes, they have a dry heat there, and at least do not have the issues with bugs that they have in Florida. How sweet that Dh bought some gifts for the family...nice that he does that for others including you.
Sue, so glad you found your missing nutcrackers. Support groups are frequently the lifeline for those who attend. Its a safe haven for you to say what you feel and not be judged. I am glad you got there and got your shopping done.
Meg-that is a horrible story about that child being injured!! Hope that a thorough investigation is done, but most importantly that the child heals completely. Unfortunately there will be emotional damage from such a horrible incident. Glad you got the yarn you needed...
Babysat again DGDwas a bit irritable but still not bad. Spent a few minutes on the table runner. The binding is pinned in place. Hope to get it half sewn tomorrow- with the sewing by hand later on in the week. G

Cold morning here! It was 19 degrees when I got up- right now its up to 27 (maybe) because the temperature sensor is in the sun. My friend and I are going for a walk this am, and I am waiting for her....watching the coverage of President Bush’s funeral, which I will DVR to watch later on. I figure that CJ is watching also. (Hope she is doing well).
Hi to Ruth, Phyl, Sue

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - How exciting to see the President and the Queen. I would love to have had a chance to see Queen Elizabeth in person. I did get to see Princess Diana and Prince Charles in person when they came to Washington, D.C. in 1985. I was a big fan of hers, so it was a special thrill for me. We're having a cold day here, after that nice mild day on Monday. It's only in the 30s today. I saw that there was snow (showers) south of me, but it didn't make it this far north which was good for the funeral today. I did watch the funeral and was very touched and impressed. It was a beautiful service and nice tribute to a man who sounds like he was pretty humble. Just hearing from long time friends that he had shows what type of person he was, and you could tell that his family meant everything to him too. I've often wondered how I would feel if I was in some type of event where I was a survivor and others died, like President Bush was in WWII. I think it does make some people decide to dedicate themselves to a life of service. Here's a link to the final quilt for Pat Sloan's Merry and Bright quiltalong. I like her quilt so much better with the buffalo plaid border fabric on it: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/2018/12/merry-bright-sew-along-enter-your-quilt.htmlIf you scroll down you can see the finished quilts of some of the participants. This was just a really "busy" quilt, even some of the other quilts make it difficult to see the design. Take care everyone!

CJ- as I scrolled down through what others had done with the quilt in the back of my head I thought, how nice these quilts would look with sashing between the blocks to make it less busy. BINGO- some of the quilts at the end have sashing or other blocks to take the busyness out of it, and I like the quilt much better. It was quite an honor that you got to see Charles and Diana...and I can imagine a very special time. Think I heard that Prince Charles was attending President Bus’s funeral for the Queen.
Busy day, I have not had a chance to watch the funeral at all...will get to do that perhaps later tonight or tomorrow. Got some work done on an ornament this afternoon. Ginny
