Good morning and Happy Monday!
Anyone watch the gingerbread house competetion on Food Network last night? I put it on- started the last episode.....assuring myself that I would be awake to find the winner and fell asleep! Perhaps I can search online or catch reruns of the show. I was absolutely amazed at the beautiful work some are able to put into gingerbread with edible decorations. Its quite an art and a talent. The one woman (think she was from Agentina) is an incredible artist/crafter. Her gbread houses look like highly detailed doll houses- you can actually see into each room and see minute detail. She made it to the final 3, and I really hope she won.
DD#2 and I made our annual gingerbread house. For many years we had hoped to bake our own and really start from scratch, but this is such a busy time of year that we elected to buy those kits they sell in the store and just have fun with that. This years kit was actually the best we have ever made. Normally I get Wilton kits, and they are very good. Not sure what brand this one was but it came with a tray to help support the house and a cute premade gingerbread man and gbread Christmas tree (to be decorated with candy and icing of course). Not sure if this is the best looking house we ever made, but we had a lot of fun putting it together.
Ruth, you are a brave woman taking on a tough pattern later on in the day, when concentration is a bit more challenging. Gee with regards to Lion Brand, would Dh be willing to make the call for you? I am sure you are not their #1 customer- but you do order a lot and deserve a prompt response. Wish the Carstadt outlet was a bit closer to me- its about 75 minutes away. If it were near one of my main shopping areas, I would stop in and see if they could offer any assistance getting in touch with customer service. What project did you end up working on last night?
No babysitting today- we switched with Dd’s MIL and our long day of babysitting will be Friday.
Have a blessed day all GInny

Ginny, what fun and what a great tradition to make gingerbread houses with your dd! I've never made one as I am not at all artistic. It ounds like you had a great weekend. And although it's undoubtedly great to have the grandchildren it will be nice to have an extra day to catch up on things.
Well I'm not all that concerned about my yarn order. I'm sure they'll get back to me when they can. As you said, Ginny, it's a very busy time for all companies right now.I do have a customer service number I could call and if I need to do that I'll just ask them to speak louder. It is so very, very nice of you to think of me and finding info for me.
What did I work on last evening...well it was the bunny hood. I found out that I had forgotten to do the edging on one ear so I did that and it ended up that I finished the whole thing. I made it with what I thought was going to be really soft yarn but you know how yarn is...when you get it crocheted it often feels stiffer. And the bunny ears are really too heavy so they kinda flop down..Maybe they won't when it's actually on a head. And the fraying of the ends of the drawstring worked well. So that was challenging enough so I didn't work on the doll. There's only 4 pieces to sew and then the very simple "sleepy" eyes so it (hopefully) won't take long
We've been having a warm spell the last few days. Now if it wasn't for the wind it would be great although the wind is not as bad as it was the day it almost pull my car door off and blew me over.

Got out for my walk- Dh went with me. Then we ran a few errands- picked up a few more gifts. Dd’s bday is tomorrow, and I found two more things, easy on the budget that I thought she would like. Made an appointment for my routine BP check and a follow up appointment for the kitty who is still not back to herself but seems a bit more normal. Hope to get to Bible study tonight, so I will probably not get back here.
Yeah Ruth, what is it with yarn- it can feel SO soft on the skein and then gets worked up and it stiffens up!! (Anyone got an explanation for that phenomena?). Hope that the bunny ears are just fine- I have no good ideas how to make them stand other than sewing notions that you might not want to put in a childs hat. The hat sounds so adorable! Hey, I hope that Lion brand gets back to you, just so you know they are on top of things. And believe me it takes no talent to make a gbread house. Follow the directions and have fun! Its a tradition that we kept, becasue in most elementary schools they make gbread houses, using small milk cartons as a base to provide support and graham crackers instead of gbread. Most schools use white icing in the tub- and then the kids just sort of glue it all together. Anyway, I used to volunteer to help with our kids, and with Dd #2 cause she is the youngest we continued making the kits you buy from the craft store or food store.
I have babbled enough for a day. Hope Phyl is having a great trip (she is due home shortly)?. Hi to Meg, CJ, Rene, Sue- hope I did not miss anyone GInny

hb is having two lower molars removed this afternoon. He's not a very happy camper. I expect things to be much worse tonight!
I've been to the chiropractor, the craniosacral therapist and the supermarket already this morning. I'm ready to curl up for a nap now! No such luck. I have to put on my chauffeur cap! Then I'll have to be chief cook and bottle washer! This is one of those days when I change hats at a dizzying rate!

I think Phyl was supposed to go home yesterday but not sure
OH Sue, doesn't sound like you're going to have a good day. Make your dh take his pain pills. Nice thing is they have a good way of removing teeth now that doesn'thurt like it used to.
Ok funny story (altho long) On black Friday dh saw a pair of I guess you would call then clogs..they look like Crocs only no holes and they're made by Fila.. anyway they offered black and grey. Dh ordered black. Well when they came they were grey. They were still on sale so he ordered another pair and again in black so I had him order be a pair but in the grey. Well when they came his were grey and mine was black. So he contacted the company and told them about getting the exact opposite of what he ordered so they said they would refund the money for mine since they didn't have anymore my size and they would send him a free replacement for his two pairs. Well his two replacements came today and...yep you guessed it...they were both grey. So now he has 4 pairs all grey. When they said they were going to send replacements they told him not to return the others, just to keep, donate or whatever he would like. I don't know what he's planning on doing now that they again sent the wrong ones but I would guess he's just going to let them know that he appreciates them replacing but again they sent the wrong ones so don't bother sending another replacement because he doesn't need ANOTHER two gray pairs.
My lion order still hasn't arrived unless it's down at the mailbox which I intend on going to as I have to mail my Christmas cards. .

Hello Crafters Ginny - that's a wonderful tradition you and your DD have, I bet that was fun. Thanks for the recommendation of the show, I'll try to catch a repeat. Ruth - Hope your DH will enjoy wearing the gray shoes, that company sure has some problems getting orders right. Hope you get your yarn today. Sue - What a busy day, hope you can rest this evening. Meg and Phyl - Hope you're doing well. I finally finished my Christmas cards and gifts today and I'll go out tomorrow and mail them at the post office. What a relief!! I hope everyone gets them in time, but if they don't at least I sent them. I made a pound cake today, from a box mix, it's pretty good. I'll be watching the Holiday Baking Championship tonight, I guess it's the finale. We had almost 3 inches of rain this past weekend. I'm less than an inch away from having 70 inches of rain this year. We already broke the all time record for recorded annual rainfall in Washington DC. Someone said to me today they were sure glad it wasn't snow Take care everyone!

Hello Ruth, cj, Sue, Ginny and phyl, I have been busy and I am much slower at doing things than I used to be so I will be glad when Christmas is over. I have probably been watching too much Hallmark Christmas shows where everything is perfect. I have been working on the afghan for Janet but I may decide to try something else as I am not sure I like what I am doing and just make a b/blanket with this one.
Ginny, Devin decorated a ginger bread house. It's sitting on my kitchen table. His mom bought a ginger bread kit and all he had to do was to decorate it. I suppose the fun is to make it from scratch.
cj, I said I wasn't going to send cards this year but I did write a few this afternoon I usually send them much earlier in Dec. So many of the people I exchanged cards with have died. Also my writing is not very good anymore. I will phone home to my family in Ireland. I hope you got your cards off so that they arrive before Christmas.
Ruth, I hope you are getting all your Christmas projects finished and off.
Sue, I hope you have been able to get all your DHs dental appointments have been taken care off until after the holidays.
Have a good evening.

hb is alive and well this morning. He said the thing that bothered him most was how long his jaw stayed numb after we got home. He hasn't had any pain, and there's no swelling. This morning I have to go pick up a prescription mouthwash to take care of the infection.
Tomorrow hb returns to the ophthalmologist for a check on his pressure and a check on his cataracts.

hiuc rafters, we got home yesterday about 5.had great weather going and coming.that is rare.
they did take us to the air fore museum in dayton. don enjoyed it.lots of airplanes in that huge building.alot of history also. those old airplane we see in the old war movies, also were on display. hard to think those planes helped win world wars 1and 2 compared to what we have now days.
then it was lunch at restaurant we never heard of. don and I had a grilled chicken house salad. for a house salad the was a big salad.the kids had some kind of big sandwhich. looked like sour dough bread with alot of stuff inside including french fires.
all I could think of was calories and carbs in that meal.
then it was to dick's sport shop. nathan got a football.we did go through the mall for a little bit. we only were on the ground floor .can't say there were any stores there I cared to go into.
now it is back to real life. need to finish shopping on this end for the family.phyl

Meg, yes sometimes we have to stop and revise ur plan. and yes, as we get older our Christmas list shrinks some and a lot of people aren't sending real cards anymore. If anything they do ecards. Yes Christmas presents are completed and ready to wrap.Thank you for thinking of me
Sue I'm glad to hear your hubby is doing ok
Phyl, I'm thankful you had good weather for travel and it sounds like you had a good time there. I didn't know the Air Force Museum was in Dayton. I had an aunt and uncle in the Air Force and my brother was also.
Ginny, you sound tired and busy as usual. It sounds like you've joined the club of "I can't believe I ever found time to work". It's amazing ow our other tasks expand to fill in the time we though we would have after retirement.
I've been doing a lot of varied things today and when I got to crocheting I was trying some more challenging patterns. Tomorrow will be some shopping(groceries only) and then will be gift wrapping. Before we know it Christmas will be over for another year.
I talked to my sister and suggested she make her trip here in May. It was going to be in Sept. She's all for May and so am I. I can't wait to see her as I haven't since 2006

hb's caregiver moved pictures, hung wreaths, and decorated the tree for us. He is such a wonderful person. I kept putting off the decorating things because that's the kind of thing that aggravates my back. (Note to Self: even less decorating next year!).
After that we took two dogs the the vet.
Today hb has an appointment with the ophthalmologist to check his eye pressure checked.
I'm wearing my chauffeur hat!

Hello Crafters Phyl - I'm glad you made it home safely. I've been to the Air Force museum in Dayton, it's a very interesting place. Sue - How nice that man is to help you with your decorations. Ruth - I'm glad to hear your sister will be coming to visit you sooner. Meg - I'm glad you've been enjoying the Hallmark movies - I've watched several myself. Ginny - Hope you are doing well and getting things ready for Christmas. I went out yesterday and mailed the Christmas cards and gift cards to family members who live out of state, hopefully they'll get there in time. I'm sure the family will be happy with a gift card no matter when they receive it I also did some grocery shopping and had the oil changed on one of my cars. Now I've had both cars serviced this month and it makes it easier for me to remember when to get them serviced again. I don't drive very much so instead of looking at the miles, I go more from how long between oil changes to get the cars serviced. I didn't really enjoy the Holiday Baking Show this year, maybe the one they have in the Spring will be better. I'm looking forward to the Great American Baking Show on Thursday night, I like that one better. It's a pretty sunny day here, in the 50s, but we're getting some rain again Thursday and Friday. Take care everyone!

Good morning Sue and all that stop in later.
I have about four headbands in progress. I'm taking a day for myself making more of these today then tomorrow and Saturday will be for wrapping gifts. Well I might get them all done in one day. I'm also thinking again of those cup cozies that I said I was going to make for the travel mugs. I see a ton of nice patterns for the straight up and down ones esp the ones you would get at coffee places but none for the stainles or even plastic ones that are indented so that they fit into your car's cup holder. We changed shopping day to Friday so I hope it's not too busy that day. We'll go fairly early.
Sue, I think you wear your chauffeur's cap pretty often.I do all the driving in my family too
