Today it's dull and dreary and cold outside! I need to put socks on my feet because they're cold! Three of the woofers are snuggling on my lap on top of one of their fleeces, so otherwise, I'm feeling warm and snuggly.
I've been reading this morning while it was quiet. hb just came upstairs and now the TV is on.
Today I'm going to put away some of the Christmas boxes. The nutcrackers can spend the winter in the living room. The tree and candles can stay up until January 6.
Appointments for January and February need to go on the new calendar.
There is less than an inch of snow accumulation from yesterday. One of the things I like about being able to sweep the light fluffy snow is that I can keep my elbows down. On my path, I sweep from side to side. Then my back is okay. Not so with other things like vacuuming, mopping, dishes, cooking.

Ginny, my tooth fairy pillow pattern was also lost when I lost the rest of my patterns. It's kinda hard to find a good one online. Some are a little strange.
Sue, I don't know what the temp is here right now but I know it's cold. At least there's no wind for the third day in a row. I love when there isn't any but tomorrow wind will be back.

Sue, I also started consolidating Christmas decor. As cozy and pretty as all the Christmas stuff looks, its nice to see less clutter.
Ruth, thanks for the link- I saw that pattern online last night. Wish I could find the one I had seen months ago. I started using the pattern you posted, seems easy enough and I will make that one for DGD.
Have a good night Ginny

When I let the dogs out this morning, I noticed that we were in the clouds, and sure enough, by the time I settled down with my coffee and the woofers in the living room, snow was falling. The temperature is 21 degrees. The forecast is for off and on snow showers, and more snow tomorrow.
I've finished the infinity scarf for my hair stylist. My appointment is on Friday. My next project will probably be a double length infinity scarf for me! And some hand warmers, perhaps with a matching hat. Leg warmers might be more to the point with the temperature this cold. The house is 72 degrees, according to the thermostat.
Some grocery shopping can wait until Monday. I have an early appointment with the chiropractor. The supermarket with the best produce is on the way home. I want yams!

I'm sorry to hear of the lost gift card. and no, places won't do anything to help but they do have the needed info but only if you have the ID number which is on the lost card under the scratch off thing. Have a good time in the playpen, Phyl and it will feel good to get a start on the 2019 goals.
cold here too and I WISH it was 72 inside my house. Wind is back and is blasting again. That keeps the house cold
Ginny, I found the lost tooth fairy pattern but it's on a site that is no longer in existence so not accessible. Too bad because it was the best one. They still show pictures so I should study it and write out a pattern. You probably saw it. It was on a site called Mypurposeinlifeisjoy. They do have nice pictures and still show the diagrams of how it's assembled. I knew that was the one as soon as I saw it because of the embroidered face.
I did get the hat done that I had intended for dgd but I really don't like it too much so will probably find another to make instead. I saw a picture of a hat made with Caron simply soft in strawberry and what they call Times Square and it looked beautiful. I keep forgetting that things look different online and that I really don't like simply soft. Then there's the errors I made while making it. I know this sounds awful but I'll add it to my donating bag of hats to take to Senior Center for Caps for Kids. It's nice despite my dislike of the yarn and the mistakes so some child will love it.
Today will be another "in the winter quarters" day and I have the yarn here for dgs' hat so will work on that. Shouldn't take long then I might look for some yarn inspiration for making the Bible cover. I have two patterns in mind but not which yarn I want to use.
I saw a cute thing I want to make for my dd for her birthday. It was a pattern for "chill pills". I haven't figured out how to access the pattern yet though. I hate sites where you try to get the pattern and when you click where you think will take you to the pattern it doesn't do it
Have a great day all!

Hello Crafters - Hope you are enjoying your weekend Phyl - I hope the gift card turns up. Sue - I'm sure your hairdresser will love the scarf. Have you always lived in that area? I wonder how it would be to get so much snow. I like the Mid-Atlantic area because the weather is mostly moderate, but we do get some big snowfalls every few years. Ruth - Hope you can stay warm with all the wind. Your projects sound interesting. I agree that there are some frustrating websites where you don't get to the pattern. Ginny - Hope you are enjoying the weekend and maybe seeing the grandkids - did they all have a fun a Christmas? Meg - I see that Victoria is going to be starting a new season in January on PBS. I think you've watched the previous seasons, right? It's a pretty sunny, mild day here after a rainy day yesterday. My rain gauge has measured over 70 inches of rain this year and we're supposed to get more on New Years Eve. I went out today to get some groceries and mail some bills. I don't usually like to go out on the weekend, but needed to get this done. The traffic wasn't too bad and the store wasn't crowded either. I have that one quilt top that I really want to finish by the end of the year - wish me luck that I'll be motivated by Monday to get it done Take care everyone!

CJ, I'm laughing at myself because when you said you wanted to get the quilt top done by the end of the year I thought you meant 2019 not this year. Well you have a couple days. I heard that you were to have a lot of rain in your area. Everytime I hear that I think of how great it is that you had your roof replaced so no longer have to worry about leaks. I always try to stay home on weekends.I'm glad traffic and crowds cooperated in your travels
I keep thinking of goals and thinking back to when I was working. We had classes on goals as goals had to be set for our patients... Mostly a waste of time because no one ever read the plan but this is an example... Instead of "the patient will have adequate urine output" we had to say something like " the patient will have an average urine output of 30ml/hour" or "patient will walk more" it would be "the patient will be able to walk from his room to the corridor door three times a day" Goals had to be realistic, specific, and measurable.
So instead of saying that we will reorganize maybe... "I'll make a list of places to organize in my home and accomplish one place each month" Instead of "I'll make more things for charity" SAy, "I'll make three hats a month to donate" Well I'm sure that you've all had these same classes and know about goal setting. Now I just have to do it. I'm happy that I don't have to set weight loss goals anymore. So now my weight goals are to maintain and whenever I gain 3# or more I'll be careful everyday until I get those 3# back off.

CJ I was born in Southern California! I lived a few other places along the way after I graduated from college but returned to and worked in Los Angeles until I took an early retirement. When I retired my late husband and I moved to Montana. I've been here 24+ years. I like the winters, and I can't imagine living anywhere else now.

Blessed Sunday all!
Phyl, so sorry about the missing gift card. I sure hope it shows up as you. Go through EVERYTHING. (I just had a similar experience last week). Amazing how we can lose so much time looking for items that were misplaced. I remember you travelled just before Christmas, sometimes that throws us off routines and things do not get put in their usual places. Hope that the gift did get to Carrie.....nice job getting started on your 2019 crafting goals!
Sue, what color is the infinity scarf for your hairdresser? Are you making the same color for yourself? I am sure she will appreciate the gift and all the care you put into making it for her.
CJ- if I know you you will get that quilt top done!! You are a wild quilting machine when you set your mind to it. Glad you got those bills done and errands completed. Its nice starting a new year knowing that all the bills are paid, and the household is in order. I would imagine that Monday, businesses are not open all day. Good thing you got things done early. Yes, we have had a lot of rain on the East Coast.....got more coming in my area on Monday. I agree with Ruth, lots of times I think of how good it is that you have a new roof.
Ruth, what do you dislike so about Simply soft? I have never worked with it, so cannot add to any opinion about it. I am curious unless I do need to buy yarn. Funny that you mention goals and how to set them. I once read an article on setting goals - which said never to say that you will “try” to do something- “trying” shows a lack of resolve and that its better to say that you will accomplish whatever your goal is. Of course setting a measurable and attainable goal is the key too....yup we are both on the same page with regard to how to set goals. So very happy for you that you are holding within guidelines for your weight! Wish you could infuse some “won’t power” in me!! So happy for you and in awe of your ability to stay on program so well.
CJ asked about the grandkids- 2 of the 3 have been sick, complete with fevers. I know she was back and forth from the pediatrician, as DGS had a high fever. I tried working on a quilted potholder last night and am struggling with the binding- making a potholder they suggest using a double thickness of batting and I think that is the issue. Will keep on trying, and might have to come up with an alternate binding to make this work. Yes, Ruth the directions for the good tooth fairy pillow are no longer on the internet. I had that page open on the IPAD, and somehow that got lost. The directions you suggested seem to be working ok and make sense to me. Plus its a smaller pillow- a smaller goal and more attainable. Think I will just go with that.
Playing flute at church this am....and later on we are heading over to friends house to watch a football game. Its snowing lightly here...if you like snow (and I do!) its a pretty day.
Hope to stop in later on....Meg, how are you? Ginny

We are supposed to have snow from noon to midnight with a big drop in temperature to a high of 7 tomorrow, low of -4. I have a 9:00 appointment with the chiropractor. This could be motivation to move enough boxes, furniture, etc. to be able to park in the garage, at least in the winter!
The scarf is a mid teal/blue. I have another skein which is adequate for one scarf, but I want one that will take two skeins. I have several colors to choose from. Something that will go with my new jacket. I'll look the next time I get up. Four dogs are holding me down right now! They're nice and warm.
I plan to read, pay some bills, start working on a plan to get the info I need for my sister's estate. The probate attorney and his paralegal have done an excellent job. The next step is things I have to do, letters I need to send.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are enjoying your Sunday
Ruth - I have to get that quilt top done in 2018 I'm thankful to have the new roof, I can't imagine how stressful this year would have been without having it since May. I'm glad for you that you have your weight under control. I've been off track for a few months, but I want to get back to healthy eating in January.
Sue - That must have been a big weather change moving from California to Montana, but I guess you've been there long enough to get used to the weather. That sounds like a beautiful color for the scarf.
Ginny - Hope the grandkids will be better soon. I also hope you enjoyed playing your flute at church today and have a good time watching football with friends.
Meg and Phyl - Hope you are getting in some crafting.
I have exciting news! I put the small inner border on my quilt top yesterday I plan to put the larger outer border on today. Of course after I looked at it yesterday I wish I had just put one border with the color I used for the inner border. Oh well, too late now because I don't have enough fabric and I'm not taking off 64 inches of stitching. This quilt right now is 64x64 and I think I'll add a 4 inch outer border so it will be 68x68 when done.
I was kind of disappointed to see so many threads from the fabrics in this quilt top while I was sewing on the border. This was a fairly high quality cotton fabric, but it was really fraying a lot. Just goes to show that sometimes the cheaper fabrics are just as good.
It's a nice sunny, dry day here, but we're supposed to get some more rain tomorrow. Hopefully after that we'll have some dry weather in January.
In case anyone wants to check out the blogs for Slow Stitching Sunday, here's a link:

Take care everyone!

Ginny, so sorry to hear that the grandchildren are all sick now. I know the younger two were last week and you said a cold I think. How is your cold.I hope the children are better soon. It certainly is no fun having small children sick. It is a huge worry.
the simply soft yarn is, to me, just strange. The colors seem so dull for one thing and the yarn itself is thin even though supposedly a #4 and its shiny and slippery. I don't have problems crocheting with it but some do because of the slipperiness. Some people love the sheen of it. I don't.When you're in Walmart next feel it and see what you think.
I didn't know you were a football fan. I used to be but, and I know I'm repeating here, I no longer watch it. I think now it's the playoffs and I have no idea who is in them. Being from the Buffalo area I was always a Bills fan. Finally after many years did become a Bronco fan which is the "local" team here.
Yes they did mention the need to say "I will" when setting goals or in that case "the patient will" and it's really something we need to tell ourselves
Well Ginny, when I did lose the weight it was not in a healthy way. I started out eating healthy but when I found I was losing I got carried away and cut my food down too much and also ate unhealthy things for the calories instead of healthy ones. Right now I'd say I have to agree with dh that I am underweight and undernourished. That's one of my goals for the new year...eat healthier which is of course a broad goal.I am going to set a number for fruits and veggies and protein.Cutting out certain foods because of the IC, the IBS, and colitis and the pain gluten causes me really added to the weight loss.
Sue same here. It's going to be very cold and be in the minus numbers tonight. I worry about the pipes freezing and dh worries more. He's a huge worrier. I plan to read and do bills today too as well as work on crocheting.Teal is a favorite color to my grandchildren that I make things for. I know your's is very pretty. The person getting it will be thrilled. I also got a new jacket and although I don't usually use hats and scarves I'm thinking of making one for myself to match it. I made two of the Mountain Land scarves but ended up giving both as gifts. They're beautiful. It's a pattern that Ginny told us about
CJ, CONGRATULATIONS!! on getting those borders on! Does that put you back into the quilting mode? Sorry to hear of the fraying. I'd be upset too if I'd spent the money for good quality fabric and found it to be as bad or worse than the cheaper stuff. Oh and speaking of quilts, my dd posted a picture of a quilt made entirely of "Peanuts" fabric...Snoopy et all. I love it. I actually have a bit of fabric like that and ...well if I ever get to sewing I'll try to at least make a small one like that.I'm a big Snoopy fan.Anyway I agree with you on taking that border back off. Hindsight is ...well you know. Looking at things we make very often leads us to see where we could have done it differently. But I really would guess that your quilt so far is beautiful. And yes, I'm going to go look at that site.
Oh and Ginny, sorry that your potholder is giving you problems.Instead of two layers of batting could you use one layer of that and some of the silver stuff that keeps the heat from reaching your hands...I can't remember what it's called but I do have some since back when I went to the quilt top class I was going to make some of the fantastic potholders that one of the women in Caps for Kids showed us. In fact she gave me one.Sometimes you see that reflective material on the outside of potholders but I would think you could put it inside
This is turning into a book. Just will mention that I started dgs' hat and it's an interesting stitch. It does take more yarn that most hats because it's supposed to be almost like a double layer and it also takes more time so I'll be working on that today then his stuff will be done. he's the one I already made the afgan for..I'm still not happy with the edging but the ends are so woven in that I'd never be able to take it out. I should have checked the edging as I went but I've been having success in edgings lately so I thought it was working ok...I was wrong and should have checked
