Hello Crafters - HAPPY NEW YEAR - Wishing you all a very happy and healthy 2019 Meg - I hope you will find someone to go with you if you try to shop at that Hobby Lobby, it sounds like a very unsafe area. I understand about that because I don't do much shopping around where I live because I feel unsafe. Hope you enjoy having the house to yourself and get to read a good book. Phyl - I was in awe of that Bridge counted cross stitch, it was amazing. I have an old lighthouse counted cross stitch that I would love to finish. It's about half done but the last time I worked on it was probably 20 years ago I'm glad for you that your weight and A1C are good. The Solstice quilt top is done and put away out of sight, I was so tired of looking at it unfinished Ruth - Hope you were able to work on the hat and finished your book. I've read some enjoyable books this past year and look forward to more this year. Ginny - Sorry to hear about the grandkids being sick, I guess it's pretty normal for this time of year. Hope you stay well. Sue - I hope you can get your dental work done. I've had lots of work done over the last 10 years or so, because of not taking care of my teeth before that. I do much better now to avoid problems. Retirement hasn't been what I expected either We had a rain free New Year's Day, so that was nice. It was cloudy though. I did some decluttering yesterday and today too. I'm going to try to do some each day. I have some old computer equipment that I want to take to Best Buy this week, they will take it and recycle it. I had to remove the hard drive from the desktop PC first though. Even though that computer had crashed and wasn't recoverable, I don't want to take any chances with my information. Yesterday I was watching a marathon of last year's Kid's Baking Championship. I really like that show, the kids are great and Duff Goldman and Valerie Bertinelli do well as guests. The new season starts next Monday night on the Food Network. I pulled out a small packet of mini charm squares fabrics. It's 42 pieces of 2 1/2 inch squares. I think I'm going to add a solid fabric and make a small table runner with them. Take care everyone!

Happy New Everyone, stayed home and did some reading. I was awake to see the NY in but it isn't a big deal to me anymore. Today has been quiet and I have stayed home. I suppose I should get out tomorrow ads I need to go to the post office.
Ruth, I am glad I have an idea where you live I would not have guessed Wyoming. I have been posting with you for years and often wondered where you lived but didn't like to ask.
Ginny, I am glad that your young adults got home safely and I hope you got a good nights sleep. Sorry your DDs little ones are sick and hope they recover soon.
phyl, I am glad you had a good check up and that all is going well. I have not heard of computer glasses so I will check them out. I have macular degeneration and I get injections in my eyes about every 8 weeks. So that is why I have problems on the computer. Thanks for the information.
Sue, some retirees do a lot of travelling and others like you and I spend a lot of our time taking care of medical issues. Though this past year went very well and I didn't have too many medical issues. I hope this coming year goes better for you and your DH.

Hi cj, I hope you are having a good start to the NY. I am not worried about going to Hobby Lobby as it is in a normally good area. I think what these teenagers do is go on line and arrange to meet up somewhere. I would not go at night and haven't been in that mall for years. HL is in another shopping center on the other side of the road and it is a very nice store but I don't go there very often. I have been doing some crocheting but sometimes I just want to knit so I will have to start another project. I get bored if I work on the same project all the time. Now I am off to do some reading. I am glad you have some more baking shows to look forward to watching. Victoria will be starting again in January, I think on the 13th. I think you watched that show last year.
Have a good evening and stay warm and dry.

CJ, just do as you're doing, a little at a time and it will get done. At least you don't have another person telling you not to get rid of things you've finally decided to part with. I'm glad you did finally have a rain free day too. Rainy gloomy days can be very depressing. I'm glad too that you're careful when you go out. No one can be too careful these days and if you live in an unsafe area you have to be even more cautious. I'm so fortunate to live in a safe place although things happen here too. Meg, one time when you had surgery I think you gave your address to those of us that wanted to send cards to you because I seem to remember that and I do have your address and it was you who gave it to me. Ask me anything you like. You are one of the people I trust implicitly. I'm glad Hobby Lobby is safe and that you do go during the day when it's likely to be safest. I doubt that computer glasses would help with the eye problem you have, Meg. I'm almost back to where I was on the hat before I tore it back some so no real progress made but at least progress toward making progress. Dgd sent me a message via her mom that she likes foxes, flamingoes, and horses, so I searched patterns and found a stuffed fox pattern that's really cute so I think I'll make that for her. And it's a "sleepy fox" so I won't have trouble making the eyes, etc . And her mom said legos too so I just finished looking up legos online and ordered one to be sent directly to my ddil. Then I'll send her a couple little things with the fox and Bible cover and the easy purse I'll make her. I made her one about 3 years ago I think and it's more for a younger child I think. She'll be 10 on Feb3rd so she needs a new one. I'd better stick to my goal of less computer time and get with the crocheting.

Good morning, I missed a few hours here and it seems like I have a weeks worth to catch up on!!
Ruth, so glad you have figured out your next projects...and a stuffed fox sounds really adorable! Is it a grey fox or red? Totally agree with you that a sleepy fox would be easier, not having to deal with eyes and such. And you were totally correct about the face on the tooth fairy pillow, which is now done. Did you find another purse pattern for DGD or are you using a pattern that you know and love?
Meg, thank you !!! Think I was the one who most watched Victoria, and I am glad to hear its going to start up again. Do you watch it also. HL is such a nice store, but where I am is also a little bit out of the way. Is it still a goal for you to make another afghan for DD? Is that the afghan that you will be knitting instead of crochetting?
CJ- Yay! Congrats on finishing the solstice quilt top! Happy for you in that you accomplished that goal....now I wonder what you will work on next? SOmetimes after a project like that its normal to take a break.
Sue, do you still have much snow? When does your respite care aid return?
Finished the tooth fairy pillow. Its cute enough and I will not obsess over it as I wonder if it will be carelessly tossed about by the grandkids.
Slept well last night, which was good as I had slept poorly the 2 nights prior. BBL Ginny

I'm in my allotted computer time right now and will concentrate on other things throughout the day esp my crochet projects for the birthdays.I'll be glad when gifts for all 4 are done then I have until the end of August before another birthday comes around so I can work on other projects I plan on trying and doing. I ripped the whole hat out because the seam just didn't look right even after I started it over 4 times so obviously I need more practice in that. I found that she has a pattern for the same hat done top down instead of bottom up so I started that one. That always works better for me. Ginny, the purse is a new one but seems pretty easy...famous last words...and this one will be lined. The pattern is for a small purse but it will be easy to make it larger except for the flap but I think I can enlarge that, too, without too much trouble. Im glad you got a good night's sleep. It makes a big difference in your day when you're rested I'm sure.
Wind is once again blasting...was pretty strong yesterday too once it started increasing in strength and its blowing away all the snow except maybe where the plows made the hills at the edge of the street and then of course across the driveway but nice thing is I don't have a real delineated driveway so should be able to get out fine
I hope you all have a great day and are able to do some enjoyable things. See you later

In a short while, I have to go to the dentist to get the permanent crown. I'm stopping to buy some groceries on the way there, probably not my whole list. That sounds like trying to do a marathon without being able to complete a 5K.
J, the caregiver, will be back tomorrow. I want to go to quilting. I need some adult conversation more than I need to do other priority items.
There is a blanket of snow over everything. The roads are plowed. The current temperature is 26 degrees, a pleasant change from the past two days. Sunny with a few clouds. I swept my way out to the shop yesterday, and the snow depth is 16"+. Town is about 50" lower and will be less.
More later.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today It's a cloudy, cold day here, but fortunately no rain or snow. I went out earlier and did some grocery shopping and ran a few errands. I was able to take some old computer equipment, and old cell phones, to Best Buy and they took them for recycling. It was good to get them out of the house. When I was clearing through the computer things I found 3 external hard drives. I'm not sure what is on them, so I'll have to hook them up to my computer and check. It's interesting how large the earlier ones are and how much smaller the more recent ones are. It's great that computers and their products keep getting better, but sometimes I just wish they would stay the same so they didn't get outdated so quickly. I'm going to make some chicken and noodles tonight for dinner, it sounded like something good to have on a cold day

Ok my stupid cat just stepped on the keyboard and erased all I had written
Ruth, yes we all know about patterns and there are good ones and some that are poorly written. Hope that the new hat pattern works out for you as it sounds as though the other pattern was very frustrating. Is this the hat for DGS?
Sue- bet that permenant crown feels good! Do you think you will be able to get to quilting tomorrow? Going that long without an adult conversation would be a challenge for most folks...
CJ- thanks for an AWESOME idea! I have been looking for quite awhile for a place to recycle my old cell phones, and had no idea Best Buy took them. I also like to recycle when I can....yes computer equipment is outdated the minute you purchase it. Pretty strange if you ask me. Hope your chicken and noodles were just the comfort food you needed!!
Tried hard to stay within points today and avoid mindless eating. One day at a time I suppose.....Tomorrow is busy as we are getting a new refrigerator delivered (old one still runs but is falling apart). Then off to see another wedding venue at the end of the day.
Sleep tight all G

I meant to say that too to CJ. I never knew anyone took old computers and my garbage people won't take them so it's sure nice to know that Best Buy will. We have a lot of computers and computer components and also old cell phones although you can donate old cell phones at Walmar or at least you used to be able to do that there.
Also CJ, I too, made chicken broth but made it yesterday. I have to add the noodles and will probably do that tomorrow.
Ginny, I hope you have better luck with your new refrigerator than we had with ours. Ours lasted 15 months. And yes it does sound like another busy day for you. And yes, this hat is for dgs also. I don't know what happened but somehow I went from 62 stitches down to 50. Obviously I did something wrong in that row. It's working better than the bottom up one though and I think I know what I did. If I don't get it straightened out tonight I'm just going to go with something simpler. Should have done that to begin with and tried this one later. The fox is going to be a red one. A lot of the patterns they have for foxes look more like teddy bears with pointy ears but the one I have does look like a fox.So we'll see if I mess that one up. I haven't been having much luck with my patterns lately. It's as if I've lost all my knowledge of crocheting.I think we all have those times so I'm not letting it discourage me.
Ginny, yes it is one day at a time. Today I did get in my 4 servings of fruits and veggies that I planned as a goal for this month.I don't know if we're going to the grocery store this week or not but I would like to get more fruits and veggies, esp veggies as we don't have many in the house except for canned green beans and canned tomatoes...oh and canned beets.

Good morning, Ruth, I tend to err on the side of the crochetter- as there is no standard for writing crochet patterns- what is written can be done poorly or with tons of mistakes. Its a common thing. Years ago, I was a technical writer for a pharmaceutcal company and had to write technical manufacturing instructions so anyone could understand them and not make a mistake. They had to be insanely clear. Wish that existed in the crafting world, where sometimes they just slap directions together with a hope and a prayer. The red fox sounds so very cute! Nice that you found one with a more fox like face- how does the pattern handle the somewhat bushy tail of a fox? Hope you can resolve the issue with DGS’s hat.
Not sure what today will bring. Making spaghetti squash with chicken parm for dinner. Will be easy for anyone to eat as our dinner will be a bit disorganized today. BLessed day all Ginny

Good morning Ginny and all who come in later. Ginny, thank you for reminding me about my spaghetti squash. I've had it for awhile and need to cook it. The chicken parm sounds good too. I have chicken thighs thawing. Their my favorite part of chicken and turkey so I need to think of something more creative to make with them than just the pan roasting I usually do.
I think it's warmer today but windy again. Dh put out the garbage bin. They didn't pick up the garbage last week and didn't let us know what the problem was. We have to pay for pickup and there are two companies. One is a national one and charges more and the other is local. They offer every two week pickup which is what we have but two of our neighbors already have switched and we may have to also although I'd like to continue to support local business...Now that I think of it though, I think they were actually bought by a large company just recently.Anyway if they don't pick up today I might go ahead and change. The bin will blow over if it's out there too long and we're already repaired it several times.
I'm still working on that hat but think I may be seeing light at the end of the tunnel. Last couple rows have actually worked ok. Ginny I sure agree with you on pattern writers. Some are good and do have talent and some think that because they can crochet that they can write patterns but they don't do it in a way that others understand and many times incorporate the mistakes they've always been making into a pattern. For instance one pattern had a cluster stitch..popcorn or bean or something like that. When you finish the stitches of a cluster you're always supposed to do a chain 1 to hold it together. She didn't have that in her pattern so I emailed and asked if she forgot and she said that, no, she never did a chain...hmmm.
WEll I'm going to crochet until dh wakes up.Then will do some kitchen work...can't do it now because of kitchen being right over the bedroom

good afternoon everybody,
I was going to do some cleaning today.never got to it.
we went to mernard's and got a new faucet for the upstairs bath room. then walmart.
this afternoon I am going to be in my playpen.start resewing on Nathan's quilt.
meg ask doctor about script for glasses for distance.my friend joyce (88) has a cataract in one eye and d.m.in the other.she gets shots. when she was telling me one eye was fuzzy and that she had to drive iwth a eye closed I almost feel out of my recliner.
I told her she may need to give up her license, she was taking her life or someone else's in her hands. so she talked about getting new glasses a walmart. I told her get a script from her doctor first to see if it would help. not sure she did. she want to walmart and was able to get glasses just for distance. now she is driving. I still think she should not be. have been scared of her driving for years.
I know it may not work for you.we all are different medically. but it won't hurt to ask.when my doctor tells me why not I always say it is information for the back of my brain to know why or why not.phyl

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - Hope things work out with your new refrigerator. My chicken and noodles was good, I had a bit leftover for lunch today. Hope you enjoy the chicken parm and spaghetti squash. Ruth - Just a word of warning about turning in old computers - make sure to take out the hard drive, or wipe it clean (delete all files) before you turn it in if you have personal data on your computer. The one I turned in had crashed so the hard drive was dead, but I still removed it just in case since I know I had a lot of personal information on that computer. I watched a YouTube video to figure out how to remove the hard drive. Phyl - Hope the resewing on your quilt goes quickly. I had every intention of doing several things around the house today and then ended up feeling like doing nothing and that's what I did Pat Sloan has started another quiltalong (I'm not doing it), but thought I'd share some pictures with you when she sends out information on the new block. Here's the first block, scroll down for pictures: blog.patsloan.com/2019-out-of-this-world/Take care everyone!

cj,
I like the new block. I like star blocks. think I would use something different in the center.
maybe something to do with the ocean, stars , sun, moon, or whatever my little heart fancies.
never been one for following outer space stuff.oh I know I could put anything in the middle.
I have to many of my own projects to get done.also to many project waiting in the wings.
I got the quilt laid out on the floor.I added two more squares to the rows to make it wider. instead of 12 across it will be 14. it is 14 across and 14 down.
I tried it on our bed before and 12 and 14 rows were not big enough.was more like a small lap quilt. I would of had to add some really wide boarders. I may kick myself and a few cuss words for stating over. lol. phyl
