CJ, definitely my dh would never allow a computer out of the house with the hard drive still in it. She and my ds even removed son's mil's hardrive from her computer when she passed away before they got rid of the computer. I'm glad you liked your chicken and noodles. I finished making some for dh today. he's going to love them. I can't eat noodles so I made chicken thighs for me basted and coated with a mixture of apricot preserves and thai green curry paste. They're going to be wonderful too. And yes, benefits of being retired is that we can just do nothing if we feel like it
Phyl. I hope the quilt works out good and easily for you this time. It's a smart more to check the size but then you know that already.
I'm nearly done with the hat and will probably work on dgd's hat next as in this evening hopefully. We are definitely going out tomorrow and stopping at Walmart so I'll look for a good color yarn for the fox.

Well I was going to have a stay at home day but DS and his friend are taking us out ti dinner. The friend takes his mom and perhaps his wife Devin and his mom and a friend left for Disney Land this morning. It is a long drive from here to LA. So it is going to be quiet here for a few days. I haven't done any crafting for a couple of days. Last night I watched a Hallmark movie and then I read myself to sleep. I still need to go and buy some yarn and I will probably go to Michaels or Joann's as they are close to me. Tomorrow is Knit Wits day so that will get me out of the house.
I will check Best Buys out and see if they take electronic equipment for recycling I imagine they may have different arrangements for that sort of thing in different parts of the country.
phyl, I am far sighted and do not have a problem driving I can see into the distance very well. I do have a problem with small print and things that are close up. I have another apt for injections in my eyes in Feb.
Ruth, you mentioned getting Legos for someone. We have them in all sizes from very large to the kits with very small pieces. Devin is very good about putting them together. Keeps him busy for hours. He did go to Lego Land one time.
Ginny, I had forgotten that you enjoyed watching Victoria, mark your calendar for January 13th.
cj, soup sounds good and I want to make a big pot soon. I love soup.
Sue hope you are keeping warm.
Now I am off to dinner. Have a good evening.

Good evening!
Ruth, we have also been through a similar saga with garbage companies....and we also tried to support a local firm- which was then bought out by a larger firm in the state. Guess it all comes down to who provides a service, as scheduled. Were you able to get much crochetting done before Dh woke up?
CJ- thanks for the link for the new Pat Sloane pattern. I like star pattern quilt blocks, so this one is appealing to me. I appreciate the advice too on stripping a hard drive. In the past I actuallly removed the hard drive and smashed it to render it unusable. Glad to hear that there is an easier way.
Phyl- ah the joys of quilting...and how we adjust our quilts to make them work. I am sure you will be able to figure something out so that this quilt can work on your bed. Hope that its not too much work rebuilding Nathans quilt.
New fridge is here and very nice. Old one is being picked up tomorrow.....our utility company is paying us $50 for the old fridge to haul it away. Ends up I am babysitting tomorrow....had to cancel many other plans but Dd needs a sitter. It will be a long day....I will check in when I can. Ginny

At dh's insistance I called the company and they said that last week wasn't my week... we have it picked up only every two weeks...so they would pick up today. Well they did pick up today but last week was actually our week despite what she says but at least it's picked up now
Yes I did get a bit of crocheting done but the hat's not done yet. Soon after I mentioned that dh woke up and we did that cooking and after that I did some other things that needed doing.
I too, like the quilting blocks for this new quilt along but I also would put something different in the middle. There are so many possibilities there.

Glad you got it straightened out with your garbage pick up Ruth. I am sure that you will get that hat done in no time... totally agree with you on the Pat Sloan block. I am usuall not a big fan of her fabric selection, but when I see past that the blocks are very pretty.
Well, thought I was going to work this am, but Dd#1 MIL cannot babysite today, so here I am, babysitting. No crafting today, but being here does get me near Joanns. Hope to stop in there on the way home much later today. Ginny

Good afternoon Ginny, Phyl and the rest who hopefully will stop in later. Today dh and I went out shopping. First to Walmart but that was not successful as they didnt have the thing we were returning in their computer so we'll have to go to the library and print out his receipt. We dont have a smart phone so can't take that and show them. I wonder if I could take my tablet and just show them...if I can connect to their wifi that is. After Walmart we went to two grocery stores and then stopped for gas and I was so exhaused when we got home!! I really need to do more exercise instead of just sitting and crocheting all the time.Dh is probably right that I've lost a lot of muscle when I lost weight.
Ginny, your daughter is very lucky to be living near you so that you can babysit when she needs you. As a bonus you get to see and play with the grandchildren
I did buy some nice veggies so now I can eat healthier. I did manage to get in my four f&v yesterday.
PHyl, these holidays have really messed up my sense of what day it is. I'm glad they're over for awhile.
I hope they get this gov't shutdown situation straightened out soon. My ds works for the gov't...for VA adm and is working but no paycheck. They'll get it all eventually. Luckily he's smart and has prepared for these type situations but I'm going to email and see if he needs some short term help

Good evening, Phyl, congrats on being down this week! You are. Right, its a great. Way to start off a new year, without having to account for a gain over the holidays. I am very happy for you. Hope you enjoyed your dinner out and made good choices to stay on program.
Ruth, great minds think alike sort of......I went to Joanns and screen shot a coupon (my phone can be a problem at times) on the IPAD- so I took the IPAD into Joanns and showed them that. It worked out fine. I would think that bringing in your tablet and using the stores WIFI could work. I wonder if your tablet “screen shots” something too- then you would not need WIFI in the store. Glad you are taking care of you and got your fruits and veggies in. Would you consider trying out a walk at home video to get some excercise? I know its much more fun to be outside in lovely weather than to do a video or DVD, but I do feel better when I get my daily work out in.
Prayers would be appreciated for my DD#1 and her best friend. Her friend has terminal cancer (only 32!) and is probably in her final days. So very sad, she has a 4 year old daughter and a husband.
Yes, I got to Joanns, got the fabric I needed and some Christmas fabric so I can make a tree skirt for Dd and DSIL to be. Just what I needed! Another project.....
Have a good evening all Ginny

Hello Crafters Ginny - I'll keep your DD and her friend in my prayers - how very sad, she's so young I went out and ran several errands today, I'm tired tonight. I did a lot more driving than I normally do and much of it was on highways, or in a lot of traffic. My tolerance for that is very low now that I'm retired and rarely go out. I did get a new cable box for my TV, the other one had died. I'm going to try to hook it up tomorrow and hope I can get it to activate. The last time I had to do this they had given me a defective box and I ended up having to have a technician come to the house. Hope you all have a great weekend!

CJ- hope that the new cable box is what you needed and is an easy hook up for you!! Is that your only television and does that cable box control all your television for the house? Hope you can still see the shows that you like.
Appreciate the prayers for Dd and her friend. Its going to be a long night and I hope Dd gets back home safely G

Ginny, I will sure be praying for your dd and her friend and that your dd gets home safely
As for more projects, well once your #2 dd is married there will be even more grandchildren coming at some point probably and even more projects to do.
CJ, our tv company doesn't let us put in our own boxes. I know the one we have in our bedroom needs to be replaced but, although they have free replacements, you have to agree to a contract of another two years so I'll make do.It will only be a couple months till they do our annual raising of our rates and I'll again have to threatened to cancel before they'll agree to a lower price. And sorry you had to drive in a lot of traffic.Sounds like you were as exhausted after your trip out as I was after mine.
Ginny, I did have several of Leslie Sansone's walking dvd's. Noq to make myself do them.

Hi everyone, I kept busy today. I went to Joann's this morning and bought some yarn. I have been wanting to buy some of the new yarn so I bought the cup cake yarn and I think I will use that to make Janet's afghan. I also bought a small skein of Caron Simply Soft party yarn. It is teal with a sparkle in it. I probably need to get another skein. Then I went to Knit Wits this afternoon. Now I am home for the evening and I will probably start my afghan with the cup cake yarn and listen to a book.
Ginny I will pray for your DD and her friend. It is so sad to lose someone so young and with a DH and a small child. I hope you don't get too tired as you seem to baby sit a lot. I am sure your DD appreciates all the help you give her.
Ruth, Yes being retired is very nice when we can just decide to do nothing. Though I just went into my bedroom and I really need to do some cluttering busting and get rid of some more yarn and books. I haven't looked at my bank acc. and I wonder if my monthly gov. checks have been deposited. I hadn't thought about that until you mentioned it. I hope your DS gets his checks. I will survive.
cj, I have a couple of cable boxes I need to get rid of. The old company didn't want them when we changed cable companies. We have so much electronic equipment now and sometimes is difficult to get rid of.
phyl. good for you starting the year with a loss. I intend to eat more fruit and veg.
I am getting sleepy so perhaps I will take a wee nap.

Meg, I'm happy to hear that you got your yarn you needed and can start Janet's afgan. I've never used cupcake before. How many of them do you need for a afgan. What are you making with the simply soft? I got some today too even though I don't care for it but it was the only color cose to what I wanted to make the stuffed fox for my dgd.
Ginny, I'm so excited. When you mentioned screenshot I had heard of them but didn't know how to do it. Well I looked it up and tried it and it actually worked!! Now I'm going to call and ask if that's sufficient for returning something.

Good morning,
Ruth, has Ds figured out if he got paid or not?? Without getting political, i have emailed both my senator and the president that they need to end this shutdown. Emailed them several times as a matter of fact. Peoples lives are involved with this and some politicians- especially my mouthy and bellicose state senator is one of them. (Cannot stand him). Sorry I got political....anyway, hope Ds and his family are financially ok, We are parents forever, right? So glad the screenshot worked! I would think they could scan it, as Joanns did with my coupon. Hope that works out for you.
Meg, sounds as though you did have a busy day- but accomplished a lot. Bet it felt good to get out and see some friends and get to Joanns. I know they had some great coupons- and much was on sale. That teal yarn with a sparkle sounds so pretty! What are your plans for it? GLad you got yarn for Janets afghan too- will you be crochetting that or knitting?
I do appreciate all the prayers and concern for Dd and her friend. DSIL texted me at midnight to inform me that DD made it home ok. After a long day of work, to have to go back out for an emotionally draining evening must have been tough on her. She is back at her friends house now. Hospice has indicated that it is highly unlikely that her friend will survive the weekend. Such a sad situation. She is a dear friend who will be missed by many.
Ruth, as far as Leslie videos go, remember you do not have to do a 5 mile video on the first day! YOu can build up slowly.....make your crochet time a reward for spending a few minutes with Leslie. Its raining here in NY- so Leslie will be my buddy today.
They are here to pick up the old fridge. Gotta go fold some laundry and then clean up after they leave.
Hi to Phyl and CJ and Sue! Ginny
