Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well and ready for the weekend Ginny - that father sounds terrible. I really feel for that little girl, I was like that as a child and took everything so seriously. He has no idea what he's doing to those children!! Ewww - for the way he comes to the bus stop. I'm glad you had the day off and hopefully enjoyed the bird counting. Ruth - Sounds like you were busy yesterday, hope you enjoyed your sauce. Meg - Glad your iron shot gives you some energy. Hope you had a nice time at KnitWits today. Phyl - Hope you are doing well. I didn't get any crafting in today since my brother came by and we pretty much finished up clearing things out of the basement. Only larger items are left and I'll probably end up getting a dumpster at some point in the future and we can put those things in that. He also helped me cut up some branches off of a tree that fell over a few months back. Now I need to get someone to cut up the trunk with a chain saw - I'm hoping my yard guy will do that. After my brother left, the weather was so nice, I went ahead and cut down the two ornamental grasses I have. This is the time of year to cut off the dead top portion so it will grow back in the Summer. Take care everyone.

CJ, I went and looked at the quilt page. There sure are a variety of interpretations of the same pattern aren't there. Some are so beautiful

Hello everyone, another blabber mouth signing in for today. We are having wet weather. It started yesterday and it will continue over the weekend. The power was out in some areas and I noticed that the traffic lights were off as I left the library. The lights at home are still on.
I heard from DS this morning and apparently Devin was very excited and he talks to everyone he meets. After his very long day yesterday he had no trouble sleeping all night. This morning my DGD and her DH had him up early and out for a walk. I think they are going to Disney World for the weekend. So I am here alone but I can keep myself busy. This morning I spent a couple of hours watching UTube tutorials. Then I went to Knit Wits and now I am here for the night.
Ginny, you mentioned lice. Devin came home from school a couple of days ago and said 3 people had lice. When DGD, his mom was in school they had a real infestation of lice and a whole lot of the kids had to stay home including DGD. I washed bedding and everything I could put in the washer and vacuumed everything. Of course I had to keep treating her hair before she went back to school. I am glad they caught it at Devin's school before it got out of hand. When Janet went to the United Palsy Development center years ago The bus driver used to tell me about one mother who would come out to the bus in a see through night gown.
Ginny, you asked about my military ID card. I am a military widow. My DH served 20 years in the USAF. So I get his benefits such as using base facilities such as the Commissary and Base Exchange. The Bases in Sacramento were closed a few years ago but they did keep the Commissary and BX open because there are so many retired military in this area. Re the iron fusions I will have one once a week for 5 weeks so hopefully I will have more energy as I get the treatments.
Ruth, I just have it when I lose a long post. Sometimes I will re write it and sometimes I just give up.

ok, I finally have decided on the pattern I want to use for the infinity scarf. I did see a really nice one but it uses a #10 thread and you chain nearly 600 stitches. I'd love to make that one but not now. I know it would take too long. The other is really pretty too and uses worsted weight yarn or I'm sure I could use sport weight but I have a lot of worsted weight and can get more at Walmart if need be.I do have one yarn that I think will be prefect. Now to finish the shawl and start on the scarf

cj, I did go to Knit Wits today and it is always fun to meet with other crafters. I have yarn all over the place here at home and I need to get rid of some of it. I did start knitting another b/blanket at Knit Wits today. I am almost finished with the b/blanket I am crocheting. I was going to finish it a couple of days ago but I decided to add another 12 rows. Then I have to do a border. I am glad you are doing well with your quilting. I think that sometimes when I lose posts I forget to send them. But it doesn't take much to lose a post.
Have a good evening and sleep well.

Meg, I didn't see your message when I posted that seccond one. We must have been typing at the same time. I'm glad to hear that your ds and Devin arrived safely and that Devin is having a good time. What a great treat for a little boy. He'll be so excited at Disney he will keep your dh on his toes for sure.Meg, there are quite a few places that give a military discount. I knew you used the commissary but I didn't know you didn't realize you could use the ID for discounts at other places. In fact I didn't realize that other places would give their military discounts to widow of service people but I'm glad they do. YOur dh did so much for our country and so did you in supporting him in that. Thanks to you both.

Ruth. I think we were posting at the same time. I meant to crochet this evening and get that b/blanket finished/ I have no troubler wasting time. I am hoping that with all the wind that the power does not go out. I will keep a flash light near by. I am home alone. I did know that I could use my ID card to get a discount at Home Depot and Lowes. I guess I should ask at stores whether they give a military discount. I just wasn't expecting one at Michaels. 600 stitches that is a very long chain. I think I would get lost making all those chains. Of course you would have to mark every 100 chains or something like that. Good luck getting your projects finished. I need to pack it in for the night. sleep well.

Good morning!
Ruth, that shawl pattern is lovely- looks like it is versatile and can be draped as a shawl or a scarf. I see what you mean with the rows/pattern being repetitive- and how that can present itself as a challenge. Thanks for adding the 2 kids to your prayer list. I know for fact that they kids have never been to church (don't ask me how, but it came up one day!). The kids talk to me- most do- and it's amazing what topics come up. Yes, it has occurred to me that the father is not just gaming on the phone. My husband thinks I should report the father (I can "write the kids up"- referencing the father- as a means for the school counsellor to step in). And yes, these kids have a mother, and it appears that the parents are together. I just do not think this father (or perhaps mother too) have a sniff as far as how to provide stability for his children.
I am getting the cold that Dh has.....did not sleep all that well. Got some reading and crochetting done yesterday.
Gotta run some errands. Have a good day! Ginny

Hello everyone, I went to bed late and got up late but as no one else is here it doesn't matter. The storm has run it's course and it is not raining. Another storm is on it's way in. They blow in of the Pacific.
I did do some knitting at Knit Wits yesterday but none in the evening. Sometimes I just waste time and I am very good at that.. I will get busy today and work on the b/blanket I have been crocheting. I just need to do a border anf then wash it to soften up the yarn and freshen it up.
Ginny, It is good that the 2 kids on your bus can talk to you and I know you are a very caring person. I do pray for kids there are so many neglected or abused. You could alert the school that your are concerned about them. I did that one time. A family who rented a house across the street from me abused the son or his step father did. I saw this man kicking his son as he shoved him into the house. The school can watch out for signs of abuse. You don't need to get personally involved. I have worked with all sorts of children over the years and saw and heard all sorts stories.
I hope you don't get a heavy cold. Take care. I will check back later.

Ginny, the only drawback I see if you did a report on these children is that the man might guess it's you that did it and there could be repercussions. So only you know if the situation seems serious enough to take that chance.I'll be praying for guidance for you in that decisions
Meg, Wasting time is pretty much at the top of my list on what I'm best at.
Ginny, also thank you for the compliment on the shawl. Yes it could definitely be pulled up over the head to be used as a scarf also
Meg, you are very smart to keep a flashlight close just in case and I hope if any more storms come they aren't serious esp since you're there alone.
CJ, I hope you're having a good weekend. Are you doing more blocks?
This morning I worked on my shawl and will again this evening. I think I need about 8 more inches and I'm going to revise it some in that I'm going to make a wider border than they call for. I think I'll do row 6 and 7 at least one more time all around and maybe twice. I don't like the idea of just that very narrow border created by just doing the row 6 again which is just a single crochet. I really think it needs a wider border than that.
Have a good evening everyone. I'll undoubtedly stop back in to see if anyone else did

Happy Sunday morning!!
Well, I see I missed a bunch of posts from yesterday before I put mine in..I am very thankful for this web site and each of you here, but sometimes,, the execution of this web site is troublesome. For example, I would love to be able to access this from my phone- but the web site keeps on telling me that my account does not exist and will not email me my password. (It's very confusing)
So, let's see if I can catch up here....
Ruth, I have total confidence that you will come up with a lovely solution to how to make a border for the shawl. I agree with you that a narrow border might get lost- and a repeat of several already used crochet stitches might provide a more cohesive look. And believe me, regarding the wacko dad, I have been dealing with him for 4 years, and know he is not a reasonable human being. Nothing that I am seeing is classified as child abuse - not yet- and it will ultimately be my word against his. THe educational staff gave me the daughter on THursday afternoon crying- so they already know she is an emotional child.
Meg- I hope that all your shots and infusions do the trick! It's great to hear that Devin and Ds are enjoying themselves... Good idea to keep flashlights near! My mom used to have several, strategically placed in the house (like near the chair she sat in in the living room a lot)- just in case there was a power outage. Enjoy the quiet time.....hey, what did you learn yesterday from You Tube? Glad you got to KnitWits- and heck, we are all good at wasting time!! You are in good company. BTW, the county we live in has a veterans card- you have to register to get it, but the country provides a list of retail outlets that offer military discounts. My Dh happily uses his veterans discount anywhere he can. Hey, I do know that several chain restaurants also offer military discounts...Perhaps you could google and see if a list of retailers comes up that offer discounts... Thanks for your Dh for his service- and that the country was blessed by those willing to sacrifice for their nation, and thanks to you too...his service was a sacrifice for you all.
CJ- little by little you are getting all the "junk" cleared out! Bet that feels good... I have been meaning to ask, is that lighthouse one that is near you? (Your avatar picture) This warmer weather is nice for a change- but we still have some winter left!! What are you doing for slow stitch Sunday?
Got to church this am- Dd is coming over in a short while. Dh and I are headed out later on, for a walk and to go to BJ's. His cold is about the same. Mine is making me tired, but I do not feel bad enough to want cold meds. I did get some work done on the hat yesterday- now am in the easy rows that are just increasing length as opposed to increasing circumference.
Will stop back in later....have a wonderful day! Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today I couldn't get an Internet connection yesterday afternoon and evening, so I couldn't post here. I'm really frustrated with my Internet modem. I had an older one and the company kept bugging me (for over a year) to get their new Wi-Fi modem, so I finally decided to get it a few weeks ago. Since then, I've had my connection freeze up a lot and I've had to disconnect and reconnect the modem almost daily!!! I also don't see that I have any faster speed then I did with the old modem, so I wish I'd just kept it. Well, that's enough about that Ginny - The lightouse in my avatar is the Cape Hatteras Lightouse on the Outer Banks in North Carolina. It's the tallest lighthouse in the United States. I walked to the top of it when I was a child. I've often spent vacations on the Outer Banks too and really like it there. But I've also always been interested in lighthouses and this one is my favorite. Hope you feel better soon Ruth - That project with instructions to chain 600 stitches would have me running the other way LOL. Glad to hear you are enjoying your projects. Meg - I keep flashlights all around the house too, you never know when you will need them. Glad to hear you are working on some projects and that your family is enjoying their time in Florida. I might do some embroidery today. I wanted to participate in the Slow Stitch Sundays each week, but haven't been doing too well at that, so maybe today I'll make the time. Take care everyone!

Good afternoon everyone, I stayed up late last night listening to an audio book and worked at finishing my crocheted b/blanket. I finished the edging and I just have a few ends to weave in. This b/blanket is awful. I have trouble keeping my edges straight when I just do a plain old double crochet and this blanket is much wider at one end than the other. I don't think I have made one like this before. I do better when I have a pattern like the waffle stitch I have made 3 b/blankets using that stitch and they were fine. Years ago I made several afghans using the chevron pattern and those were fine with straight edges.
Ginny, you asked what I was checking out on UTube well I was checking out patterns for a chevron stitch as I don't have the pattern I used years ago. There are several versions of the chevron stitch. basically I know how to do the pattern but I need to get the edges right. I also want to try a granny stitch b/afghan which is like doing granny squares but just doing rows and again I need help doing the beginning and end of each row properly. If I knit a b/blanket I don't have a problem with the edges. But for some reason I want to crochet at the moment. There are so many beautiful crochet patterns and I wish I could crochet better. The military ID card that I have is the one issued to veterans who have served 20 years in the military and the official ID card. I have not heard of a state military ID card which would probably not be recognized at military bases. I will check out what places offer military discounts around here. My DH never had to serve in a combat area and we were very lucky to spend most of the 60s in either Germany or England.
Ruth, I am sure your shawl will be beautiful when it is finished. You are probably an expert crochet expert. How I wish I did better. Of course I can get help from someone at Knit Wits I just have t0 ask.
cj, It is smart to know where all the emergency items are especially flash lights. I used to know where everything was stored but my DGD moves things to where she thinks they should be. Also Devin likes things like flash lights. He now keeps one by his bed. We have had a break in the wet weather but another storm is rolling in, probably later today. We have had several storms in a row. I think I missed out when slow Sunday was mentioned LOL I am slow every day. I would love to see some of your work as you are a multi talented person.
I just need to get busy and work on something. I have started knitting another b/blanket. I like to have 2 projects on the go. One knitting and the other crochet.
