Hey Sue, what is on your agenda to play with today? One of the reasons I love winter is cause its too cold or slippery to go outside, but PERFECT to stay in and sew/crochet/knit. Our local library group has a group of crafters who meet during the week, and each person brings whatever they are working on. Does not matter what craft type it is, all is welcomed.
DGS is going down for his nap, I expect DGD to be awake soon. G

Ginny, I agree with you about seasons, especially locations with severe and lengthy winters, being great for crafty activities. In the summer I want to spend time outside. I watched a tutorial from MQC last night - Take Flight. Simple, easy, and effective. What I didn't like about it was that the geese weren't a solid triangle. Making the geese was incredibly fast but maybe not worth having the extra seam.
So I'll probably work on my merlot/black infinity scarf crochet since I forgot to take it with me yesterday! I'm feeling restless, so I may go re sweep my path to the shop. That will take care of the restlessness! The reason I can do that is because I can keep my elbows close into the sides of my body and sweep from side to side. Inside sweeping involves raising my elbows too much! Ouch!

I did a tiny bit of organizing today but not much but enough that dh can get that dreaded bookcase into my craft cave. It's the one I hurt my back with helping to get it upstairs. Then I sat and crocheted. I do have the star stitch pattern conquered now but I do have to pay attention in the non star rows to make sure I get in all the sc stitches or it throws the stars off as you can imagine. Ginny, yes I'm happy that the grandchildren not only thank me for the things I make them but also request certain things because that convinces me that they are not just being polite but actually do like and appreciate those things.
We didnt get any more snow during the night and it looks like the wind blew the snow off the cars so maybe a trip to the mailbox may be in my this afternoon
I like all weather that keeps me at home and working on my crafting and other things I like to do at home.

Good evening! Sue- I checked out the take flight you tube - and its a cute quilt- sure seems easy enough! I have never checked out making a flying geese quilt before, but can see your hesitation over having a seam in them. Still its a really cute quilt, not something that I would ever attempt but cute never the less. (Flying geese is just not on my bucket list of quilts). Hope you were able to get the restlessness out of your system - and if you chose to clean the way to the shop were able to do so free from injury. I like the idea of working on the infinity scarf- were you able to get some crochetting time iin?
Ruth, well chills went down my spine hearing about you moving that bookcase into your craft cave. Hope that Dh can do that without any injury to himself... it sounds like it will be a nice addition to your crafting area and help you be better organized. Congrats on conquering the star stitch!
I agree with Ruth- and really like crafting which keeps me home and other stuff that I do here. Unfortunately we have to attend a viewing this evening. Its cold out....we are hoping to go in, quickly express our condolences and get out.
So glad this fun but long week of babysitting is over. Have a great night all G

Hey CJ- so glad you were able to get the radiators bled in your house!! The heating system must run much more quietly and hopefully a bit more efficiently too.I know it was not a project you were looking forward to- bet you feel better now that its done. They are saying we are in for some super cold weather at the end of the week. Good timing to get that job done now. Decluttering has been a goal of yours for awhile- sounds as though you are making some headway in doing so. Thanks for sharing the out of time quilt- such a cute quilt and I actually might consider making it! (Gotta wait for the right fabric to go on sale). I liked the ribbon pole too- just that out of time was more my style. Would you consider making either of them? Hey, how did the chicken soup turn out? Save some for me, I am not a big fan of celery at all so would never notice the difference if it was missing.
Better get dressed to go out for a wee little bit. G

Ginny, I'm sorry to hear that you have to go out after a long day of babysitting. I never go to viewings or funerals. Last one I was at was my dil's mother back in 2006 and I had to go to that one because I was taking the children as the viewing was private due to the nature of her death so ddil and ds were there and the kids and I met them at the cemetary. Then dgd who was 4 at them time fainted and we took her to the ER. We don't have any close friends around here so no one that we feel obligated to attend viewings or funerals for.
CJ, I'm glad you got the radiators taken care of. I don't think I've ever had radiators and we don't have a furnace so don't have to worry about furnace breaking down. I'm going to go look at those sites in a minute. You know how I love to see them and wish that quiltmaking was one of my talents. I do like flying geese. They make a great border or edge or whatever. And congratulations on the decluttering. I'm sure there are many things you keep reconsidering diposing of in one way or another but sometimes we just come to a point where giving away, donating, or selling just needs to be done. And yes, crochet is a wonderful thing to do while watching tv. You could start something and have it sitting where you usually watch the tv and could pick it up whenever you feel like crocheting.
Oh Ginny, i remember what else I was going to say and that is that the bookcase is now on a level floor and has furniture movers under it so all it needs is to be pushed in there. It will be easy.I could do it myself but dh would complain. I can't wait to have everything back in that room and organized. I do have to vacuum in there first before the bookcase is moved in and the baseboard heaters washed off too. And since I wasn't smart enough to vacuum when I moved the other shelves they will stay dusty underneath. While in there I was looking at that gigantic bin that is full of fleece and was reminded that I truly need to get busy on making something with all of it but I'm pretty sure it will be baby blankets. There's some really pretty and some really cute fleece in there.
Ok off to look at the quilting

Oh and I don't care for the celery in soup either. Now in turkey stuffing celery is a must.

Good morning!
Glad we went last night.. The deceased was my best friends husband’s sister- and they had a difficult relationship. We will not be attending services today, but I did want to go in support of my friend and her husband (who is now a close friend of my husband). Dh just wanted to get in and out in 15 minutes- well we were there for about an hour. (Dh really gets along well with my friend and her Dh). Glad we went in support of them and their family. But it sure was cold last night!
My mom’s stuffing included lots of celery. Not a big fan of celery- so I omit it from my stuffing- which is nowhere near how my mom’s was made. Ok, so I will be over at either CJ’s or Ruths for chicken soup- but will not touch the stuffing! Speaking of all that its a good weekend for hot soup and comfort foods. It was 19 degrees when I woke up.
Ruth, as your friend, wait for Dh to help move that bookshelf. You were pretty uncomfortable a bit over a week ago, and are probably not 100% now. Take your time, get the cleaning done that you want to do before the bookshelf goes into its final location and then let Dh help you move it! Hope that by the end of the weekend you are on the path to getting the whole craft area reorganized just how you want it! Hey- with regards to the fleece- if you had appropriate colors/fabrics the fleece would make some nice no sew blankets for younger grandkids or great grandkids. I know we have had that discussion before.. GUess my mind is on fleece as I picked up a no sew fleece blanket at Dd’s yesterday while I was attempting to straighten up her house to make her life a little bit more pleasant.
Think Dh and I are going to attempt to go for a walk today- he says he is finally feeling well enough to do that. And I have to get out to the store for a milk and eggs type run.
Have a good Saturday! Ginny Hi to Phyl, CJ, Meg and Sue

The snow man has just been here to clear the driveway. There wasn't much snow to clear, but it's done. At the moment it's icy, but the high will be above freezing. There are a few icicles hanging off the back roof, and I'm going to knock them off before one falls and hits a dog.
Geese ... I've always been aware of birds, but I grew up in Southern California where migration patterns weren't obvious. Our camping trips to the Sierras were a relaxed family time for a month of hiking , fishing, nature. Our campsite was in a rugged and isolated valley just over a ridge from the boundary line of Yosemite at 9,500 feet. I knew lots of alpine birds from those years.
Fast forward to retirement in Montana. Migration was obvious, in your face. There are several mountain ranges, and this is a major flyway. Geese pause here in the fall to fill up on grains that escaped the hard rvest, sometimesfor weeks. Although most ducks and geese go farther north, we have many that nest here as well. I found birding here fascinating. In the fall I see hundreds, if not thousands of geese, in the fields.
In early April 1996 my late husband and I were driving to Michigan. I metal plate fell off a truck that passed us, bounced up and perforated our gas tank. We were lucky, and the only thing that happened was that we ran out of gas and were stranded. We were in North Dakota, and the temperature was 10 degrees. Within minutes, another truck driver had stopped and called a tow truck for us. During the hour plus that we waited, flocks of geese and ducks flew north over us. Then ... !!! Because the lakes, marshes, and ponds were still frozen, they turned and flew south, so we saw flocks of thousands of birds going both directions at the same time. Incredible!
We were towed to Jamestown, ND. The gas tank had to be removed, pressure washed, welded with a patch, replaced. It was an all day job. We were extremely lucky.
So variations of geese fascinate me. I have used them in borders, as blocks, in clay appliqué for part of a ceramic backsplash for a wood stove.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well this weekend I've been working on my decluttering today. I had found a website that had a kitchen decluttering challenge for January and I've finished everything on it except just going through a few more recipes I have and keeping what I want and storing them. I'm happy to say that if I was moving tomorrow everything that is left in my kitchen are things I would take with me. That feels good. I wish I could find another challenge for each room in my house, but everyone's home is unique and I think the kitchen, and maybe the bathroom, are probably the easiest to write general tasks for decluttering. I need to start working on my upstairs rooms now since I want them done before it gets warmer. Maybe I'll tackle clothes next - I do that every few years, but it's amazing how they build up again! You would think that my furnace would be working well now, but I'm having another problem with the drain pipe (or whatever it is). There is a drip bucket that goes under this and it rarely ever gets water in it. It holds about a half gallon. Well now it's filling up every day and I'm having to empty it. It was full this morning (I hadn't checked it last night) and then full again after I ran the furnace this morning. So when I run the furnace later this evening to heat the house before bedtime, I'll check to see if that's when it fills up. It's a pain, I'm going to have to call my oil company and see if they can get here sooner than my April appointment. I don't mind the emptying water, but I'm worried about a bunch of water coming out all over the floor (concrete). It's always something Take care everyone!

Well Ginny if you come over for turkey I'll make the stuffing without celery. I'm sure your friend appreciated you coming to the viewing. Luckily we live 1800 miles away from my dh's family so if one of his family would die we wouldn't even go.Back in 2006 dh's father was dying and wanted to see us so we went there and he told us while we were there don't come after he's dead so we didn''t. Well you all know from me talking about them that his sisters don't keep in touch so we definitely wouldn't go back there if one of them died. One of the times his sister lied and said she had cancer and I found out the type she said she had was a fatal cancer I asked dh if he wanted to go see her and he said no. Turned out she didn't have it anyway which is what he thought was the case but I couldn't make myself believe that someone would lie about something like that even though she'd done it before
I got a lot accomplished today.I was sorting thru some of my yarn, did a little crocheting before and after that and I also did some cooking and baking. Dh moved the bookcase into my craft cave so all is ready now for me to start getting some order in that room. Now several of you know that I'm not a knitter. I've knit some things but it's not my favorite thing to do.I'm slow and don't know how to fix mistakes such as dropped stitches. Well one thing I found in my yarn was knitted mock cable hat that I had started with a pattern I think my friend in Alaska gave me. Well it's awesome!! I can't believe I did that. It's beautiful. The only problem is I probably have about half the hat done and I don't think I still have the pattern and even if I did I don't know that I'd be able to figure out where I left off. There is one stitch that's off in the ribbing but the rest is perfect.I think I worked on that back in about 2005 when I was knitting haats for Caps for Kids.I made a whole bunch of them but then went right back to crocheting.
CJ, that's a huge step getting your kitchen decluttered! Congratulations on that. I have many cupboards full of dishes and baking dishes as well as serving dishes that we never, ever use and haven't used in years. I'd get rid of all but a very few things if dh didn't whine so much about that idea.Sorry to hear of the water problem with the furnace. I hope it fixes itself. That's the problem with owning a house...maintenance and repair.
Sue, the geese situation there sounds like here. We always have a huge number of them when they're migrating through.
Yes that's what I'm going to do with the fleece. I'll give some of the blankets to the dgks and dggks and donate the rest.

Good evening!
Sue- that is quite some story about the migrating geese. They are beautiful animals, and its amazing to watch their migration. SImply amazing that animals know when to migrate at all....each animal has its own timetable to migrate, which is absolutely no accident.
CJ- gee that kitchen decluttering is quite an accomplishment! So happy for you that you got that done. Yes, I would call the oil company and get that serviced.
Ruth, so happy for you that you now have the bookcase where you want it! (Thank you Dh for moving it). Funny story about the knit hat. its a shame you no longer have the pattern- and that puts you in a pickle. Perhaps you can take it apart and make something else with the yarn.
Slept well enough last night, but I am tired anyway. Looking forward to a quiet day tomorrow, I hope. Ginny

I did a search for the mock cable knitting pattern and I found one that looks exactly like the one I started years ago that I mentioned earlier. luckily too, when you find old UFO's done in knitting they're nearly always on knitting needles unlike crochet projects where you find one and wonder what size hook you used. So now, when I get the time, I can try to finish this one. I also have a knitted waffle stitch blanket that I started when the dgd that is about 10 was expected. It's unfinished too so I might work on it sometime also. I remember mentioning that when I was first on this thread and at that time I didn't know how to figure out which row I was on but then I did find the paper where I was keeping track of rows. I hope I can find it again if I ever get back to it
Ginny, I do hope you will be able to have your quiet day tomorrow and be able to rest before the upcoming week

No quiet day for me today. Went to church with Dd and we stopped for coffee on the way home. I was pretty sure she needed to talk, and she did (we stayed at the coffee shop for an hour just chatting). Wedding plans are getting to her, and sometimes the interaction with Dh is difficult. She just needed a safe place and time to vent.
Dh and i went for a walk- probably the only one we will get in this week with the super cold weather coming.
Ruth, so glad you found a mock cable pattern that looks just like the other one! Hope that you get the chance to finish that project. I am sure it will be pretty. Have you had a chance to finish getting your craft area organized?
Hard to believe that tomorrow is Monday. Have a good night all Ginny
