That's funny, Deb.
They don't have that effect on me (make me hungry), but I do think I'm a better cook because I am learning from them.

"Love After Lockup" hubs and I started watching it this season. It is like a train wreck that keeps getting worse and worse with every episode, but we just can't look away

It sounds like I really need to get out of my same shows rut and check out some of these. DebDoesWW I have seen Temptation Island advertised and I keep thinking why would anyone do that.

Same reason all those crazy reality shows find contestants - some weird combination of exhibitionism, desire for fame, and narcissism.

For me it is old sitcoms like: The Addams Family The Munsters Cybil
Just for the escape.
I don't do reality shows because...well...I watch TV to escape reality so watching those shows seems self-defeating.
I used to be addicted to the Food Network, but that was when it was instructional and educational. I read an article which said when the network started losing money and they replaced the CEO, she authorized the first reality show and it was such a hit that she converted most of the programming to reality.
While reality food shows can be, perhaps, entertaining, I take away nothing useful from them.

I loved the Addams Family, and it definitely helps crossword puzzles.
Never could get into the Munsters, and I don't remember Cybil.
I can watch MASH reruns all night long though.

but that was when it was instructional and educational. Mike, that is when I liked Food Network. I've enjoyed the reboot of Good Eats the past few months. Alton Brown has revisited some of his previous shows and updated how he cooked some dishes. Very informative and entertaining. It's called Good Eats Reloaded and it's available on the Cooking Channel (not Food Network) He changed cooking pasta so that it's done with very little water in a skillet. So much easier and uses much less water. He was one of my favs on Food Network but I don't like the reality aspect to most of the shows.

We've been liking those also, and they run some of his older shows before and after. Always fun to watch, although he does make things very complicated sometimes!

I've zero interest in competitions.

Unfortunately, Xfinity (Comcast) doesn't include the Cooking Channel in my lineup. Food Network is included. How odd is that. And it is aggravating that to get that channel and/or Turner Classic Movies, I'd have to take their tier 3 package at an extra monthly cost of $45. I get so little value out of Xfinity anymore that I think once the Summer hits and shows go on hiatus, I'm going to cancel TV from Xfinity altogether and just have their internet service. I have a digital antenna on the roof, which I had installed when I got fed up with Xfinity gouging before. At that time, between DVDs, saved programs, and streaming, plus the major networks broadcasts, I found I had plenty to occupy my time without paying a huge chunk to Xfinity. By the way, my Tivo says that Alton's reboot is available via Amazo Prime for a per-show fee. I see 13 seasons in HD for $2.99 each or $24.99 for the season. I may consider purchasing it.

Honestly, Mike, as much as I enjoyed watching it, I'm not sure it is worth paying for. May be even more true given all my Sur La Table cooking classes (about 55 by now).

I have Spectrum cable and I have exactly the same situation. I get Food Network and not Cooking. The last time I called up and complained about my bill they dropped me a level and now I also don't get TCM. I am seriously thinking of going down to the most basic TV level (no cable channels). The reason I would keep TV at all is to get the local NY 1 24 hour news channel and PBS. The only TV I watch now is CNN, MSNBC, NY1 & PBS and a bunch of reruns of Big Bang. I do enjoy the show but I can live without it now that I've seen the reruns a million times. I hesitate to drop TV all together as I live alone and it is company sometimes. Also in case of some major news event I would want TV. Additionally, when I do call and complain about my cable bill, they always tell me if I drop the Triple Play (TV, Phone, internet) my bill will go up even more. I am a tenant in a building so can't go with the antenna. A neighbor who owns her own home did try that and she was unable to get even PBS which was the only channel she wanted for her kitchen TV. Maybe I should try a no TV week and see how it goes. I know many who don't have TV and they are still alive.

I love the Food Network..Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Guys Grocery Games, Chopped, Beat Bobby Flay...I follow most of these cooks and the Food Network on social media too...
I would admit that in public...
What I don't admit in public is that I am a member of this forum and the GDT - it's my own little secret world of inviso friends - I can share, scream, laugh and cry...
