Because I'm an Apple user, I created a custom ring tone using Garage Band on my Mac. It is total silence. I have that assigned as my default ring tone on my phone. Those I wish to perhaps answer get an individual ring tone assigned to them. So if my phone rings, I pay attention to who it is. But everyone else's calls don't disturb me and they can leave messages. Works pretty well. Either you've mentioned that before, or somebody else told me they do this. Fortunately, my cell phone rarely rings, but if we get rid of the landline, this is a great solution.

I remember many, many years ago attending a Chamber of Commerce meeting about cell phones right after they became available. They were huge and cumbersome and didn't work well.. I remember thinking that it was going to be awful being at everyone's beck and call all the time. I think I might have been right - although it is nice to have in emergencies. I don't have a smart phone. I have an old style cell with a pull out keyboard. I basically use it as an alarm clock. The only time I carry it is if I am meeting friends somewhere.

Haven't had TV service for years so my guilty pleasure is having a device to read on that holds thousands of books...some that I will admit to reading and others that I am glad nobody can see the covers of 50 Shades of Something......? Tried to read that and found it rather boring...and not that well written...didn't read much of it all. That said...there are some in that genre that are much better I have eclectic reading taste and can read almost anything but there are some things that I do steer clear of. With over 1000 reviews written it is hard to want to read a book that is poorly written.

zazzles , that is pretty much my attitude about my cell phone right now. I've had people ask for the number and I've refused to give it to them. Raises a lot of eyebrows, but too bad so sad. I pick up for my DH, my kids, and my sister. That is it. Everyone else can talk to the voicemail. Before I retired, I had custom ringtones for most of my clients. The most lucrative client got “Money, Money, Money” The neediest was “Lean on Me” My boss had “The Howdy Doody Theme” and proved to me almost every day why.

Speaking of Howdy Doody how many of you remember watching the TV show. I remember watching it and I remember Buffalo Bob and Princess Summer Fall Winter Spring. I also watched a school called Ding Dong School. It was the early 1950's and I lived in St. Louis at the time. The teacher in Ding Dong School was Miss Frances.

Grew up in CT. Another favorite was Winky Dink. You placed a clear plastic sheet on the TV screen and “interacted” with the on screen animated characters by drawing in things like a bridge they needed. But, honestly, the bridge is the only thing I remember since it was like 60+ years ago!

I remember the Howdy Doody show and also Romper Room. I remember Miss Nancy on Romper Room looking through her Magic Mirror: "I see Susan, and Nancy and Tommy and Debbie are having a special day."

Jennifer, I loved Nip/Tuck. I was surprised what they got away with on FX.
