Hello Crafters Sue - I'm glad to hear progress is being made on the duplex and that you're feeling better. Hope you continue to improve. Years ago one of the local stores had their roof collapse from snow, with rain following. That's very rare around here. I'm glad you aren't having any roof problems. Ginny - I'm glad you had a good study group last night. You can join me in solidarity as we purge our parents papers I have a heavy duty 16 sheet shredder, so I'm pretty good with shredding, but I take breaks between large amounts. Ruth - That is a cute candy holder, I bet families with kids would like to set it out and put some candy in it. How neat that you found that picture of your grandparents too. So far I have 2 storage totes of old family papers and sentimental things I want to keep. I'm going to sort through them and put my stuff all together and then what's left of the family stuff I can go through with my brothers. I read where someone had the idea to have a storage tote with just things that were sentimental to her and she kept them together with a note that said they could be thrown out when she was gone. I think this is a good idea. No one in my family would have to go through them, if they didn't want to, they could just toss them out. I have things like all my junior and senior high school yearbooks that I'll put in there. I went out today and went to CVS and made some prints of the picture, now I can send them to my brothers and my cousin. My grandfather looks a lot like his mother, you can definitely tell he was her son. I may spend some time on the US Census website and see if I can track them down. They lived in West Virginia. I found my father in the 1930 census (he was a child). It's so interesting to see what family members were living together at the time. I tried to find my parents in the 1940 census but never could. When they release the 1950 census (I think next year), I should be able to see my older brothers. I hope I live long enough to see the 1960 census and see my own name - I just find those things so interesting. Since I was out for several hours, I haven't done a thing since I got home. I didn't sleep well last night so I don't have much energy. Maybe I'll get motivated later. I actually finished all the shredding yesterday except for all the address labels with my father's name. I think I might just cut them up with scissors to spare my machine the glue from them. Still haven't worked on those shamrocks. I've decided if I don't do them this year, I'm calling that quilt top done and moving on - or I could even just embroider a shamrock in the plain blocks. I don't want to think about it for another year Hope everyone else is doing well and having a good day. It's a beautiful sunny day here, highs in the 40s. Take care everyone!

CJ, I think that's a wonderful idea to have totes that you label are your sentimental items such as hs yearbooks so that when your things are sorted (which hopefully will be a very long time from now) no one will have to go through those things. I got rid of all my yearbooks long ago even my nursing school one which is one I should have saved. I had no interest in my hs one at all. It's a good thing you have that heavy duty shredder. I'm glad I have my wood burning stove but the downside of that is you don't want to make a fire in the summer so all that paper is saved till fall or winter.
We went out today too. Today.as I mentioned, was great weatherwise and tomorrow not only is going to be cold but now I hear that 5-8 inches of snow is predicted so we took care of things today. Went to the store that's closing and got a few things but the stores is already pretty empty. They're giving 20% off this week. We won't bother going back. Some of the people there do have jobs at the other location but our favorite...the produce manager didn't get a position there as they already have all their manager positions filled. I hope he finds a great job because he's a wonderful man.
The Chromebook came today and it already signs on so didn't have to do anything there except I did have to sign in to my wifi as guest so will have to sometime find out about that. I don't remember the wifi password except for the guest one. I also now need to find how to get bookmarks from the laptop to this one. Of course I have that flashdrive but I've added things since then. This Chromebook is supposed to be a refurbished one. It has no marks at all and no indication of ever being used so I think it's actually a new one.I'm happy with it esp for the price.

Good evening!! Ruth, did your new chromebook arrive? I see lots of commercials for them, it seems as though they have very good battery life. I do hope you get a lot of use out of it and it works perfectly for you. Those crochetted daffodils sound so pretty. Yes Easter is April 22- so you do have a lot of time to get ready for that. Do you have much to assemble for taxes?
Got the binding sewn and pinned on- actually now just have to join the loose ends and hand sew it to the back and the table runner is done.

Stupid me, I forgot to refresh the page. Ruth, glad the chromebook arrived! Best of luck with it.
CJ, yes a 16 page shredder is a good idea and should do the job well. LOVE the idea of embroidering a shamrock on the blank squares of the quilt. A nice alternative if you do not want to applique.

Two of the dogs are still at the vet. It's tooth cleaning day. I'm glad we're on DST now because it's going to be a very late pick up. It seemed very early this morning!
Today is a beautiful sunny day. The high got up to 38! Seems like a heat wave. We're supposed to have a few more inches of snow tonight and tomorrow.
An appointment for me tomorrow afternoon with time to come back home to pick up hb for a late appointment with the opthalomolgist. Time for me to put on my chauffeur cap!
*************
Spoke to the vet. Pick up time is 6:30. Willy, our oldest dog is probably 13-14 years old. Dachshunds have very narrow jaws and are prone to tooth and gum disease, as well as bone disease and deterioration. Unfortunately, his lower jaw fractured today. He's all patched up and will be coming home with Danny. The vet is feeling sick about what happened, but I know she's one of the very best and did her very best work. I told hb a very short version, and he seems to be okay. He and Willy are inseparable. I wouldn't dream of going to a different vet and told her so. We've followed her for more than twenty years and will continue to do so.

Ginny, congratulations on having the table runner almost done or maybe done by now. Well I would like to brag and say that I got the Chromebook all set up with no trouble but truth is I have no idea what I did but all of a sudden the bookmarks and all were all on there. I somehow accidentally got it all synched. It will definitely be all I want in a computer. Funny though watching dh and I trying to use it. My laptop has a touch screen and even though dh rarely uses my laptop we both keep trying to touch the screen to get the Chromebook to do things. The other strange thing is that for the last 3 days my laptop has been working fine. It's nice to have a backup though. I always cringe when I see people buying new computers and having to pay to have their bookmarks etc transferred to the new computer. It's really not a hard thing to do and those people take advantage and charge way to much to do a very simple task.If I can do it anyone can.
Sue, I didn't know your woofers were dachshunds. I thought they were some kind of large dog. And no it sure wasn't the vets fault. As dogs and even people get older bones become fragile and are at risk for fracturing even when the greatest of care is used. As you said dachshunds are more bone to bone injuries than other dogs.

Willy the dachshund had his meds and some soft food this morning. Danny the bichon frisée did well last night and this morning. He's going to be fine. Willy is happy to be on hb's lap. hb is full of questions this morning but can't remember the answers. Yesterday was very stressful!
It's snowing. I have a mammogram at one. After that I need to come home and pick up hb for an appointment with the opthalomologist. Pressure check and revisit cataract surgery again. hb isn't interested at present.

well even though yesterday was a beautiful warm day the forecast was true and we got a ton of snow. More snow than we've had all winter. I'm glad that dh told me about this forecast yesterday so that we could get out and get the errands done.Snow plowing people will be thrilled because they've only had to be out here once this year. Their agreement says anytime there's more than 2 inches of snow they can go ahead and plow it.
Sue, the doggies sound happy, not so much the hb. My dh has cataracts also but also doesn't want to do anything about them yet.Luckily after waiting 10 years to have another eye exam that's all the doctor found.
I guess today will be mostly sitting and crocheting. I should do our taxes

Quiet day here...
Sure, glad that you are also taking care of yourself and getting your mammo done, in addition to the dogs and Dh. So sorry about WIlly, andhope that he is comfortable and able to eat without too much discomfort. Getting a pets teeth cleaned is a pain, and pricey too. Knowing that Dh has some memory issues, I wonder how they will handle cararact surgery if it is deemed necessary. I am sure you will make the right decision if the time comes....
Ruth, have you made any progress getting ready to do those taxes? (Note, I said getting ready to do them, not do them! Ha ha ha). Are you in that bomb cyclone snow storm that I have heard about on the news? Stay safe, and I am so glad you have a woodburner in case of a power outage, and can stay warm. How are you liking your chromebook?
Walked this am....picked up our groceries, which should have been easy. This week the local store had a shop from home offer, so that I could use that service for free. I ordered the list online, was able to get my coupons really organized....and then picked up the order today. Well, they forgot to give me one bag (which I had paid for)- so I had to drive there twice. Grrrrr......then I met DSIL at the pediatrician to watch DGD #2 while he took DGS in to see the doctor. Poor little fellow had a 105 fever- that seems to be how he responds to some viruses and spikes a high fever. So it was a busy day....I did get to work on the table runner a bit, and the binding now just needs to be hand sewn in.
Have a good night all.... G

Sue that was about the only thing my doctor did talk about last year when dh and i went for our annual visit. She told me that at my age mammos are no longer needed but did I want to have one last one. I told her now. Ginny, so sorry to hear that your dgs is feeling worse and his temp went up so high. Did the coctor tell your sil that it's a virus? I hope the little guy is well soon. To the south of us and to the north and east the weather is a nightmare with such horrible winds. Here ,though, where it's usually horribly windy, the wind was not bad at all. We did get a lot of snow but it's stopped snowing.Yes they've had ads online for our local Kroger store encouraging people to order and then come and pick up. I actually like to look around though so wouldn't want to do that unless I had to. And I like to check to make sure the things I buy are actually a good buy so like to check to see if there's something the same but at a lower cost and make sure the items I get are actually good. For instance, I wouldn't want some teenaged stock person picking out my meat and produce. Often I don't even know what I want to buy until I see it in the store. So sorry you had to go there twice to get your complete order. At this store they even have special coupons for those that order online. They don't deliver. I know some people order online and have their groceries delivered. It's a great service for those that can't get out for one reason or another but I imagine it's also expensive to have delivery. I'm behind on my hats again because I just finished one yesterday that I had started the day before so didn't get a new one done for that day and today I finished another that was already started so so far today no new one either but I'm planning on making another this evening but you know how my plans go And no, haven't started getting ready to do taxes although as the paper work came in the mail I put it all together so all I have to do is grab it all and I'll be ready. Just have to get the mind ready

Somehow the process of completing income taxes is daunting and such a pain. Condidering that we all go through this every year, one thinks there has to be a better way. I do not blame you for procrastinating one bit!! We are still waiting for a form that was supposed to arrive this week- and then we can take that to the tax man who has the rest of our forms ready to go.
Ruth you have days in which you do a lot and then days that are less productive. Making a hat a day is indeed an adirmable goal, and if you catch up to it, fine....and if not- keep on plugging, getting as much done as you can.. A hat a day for charity is a wonderful goal- noone but you will notice if you are a hat or two short at the end of that month. Shop at home is great but also a pain. Here the home shoppers are well trained, and I have never had problems with them picking out unripe fruit or meat that was all fat and grizzle. When you place the order online, they provide a space for comments on each item, where, for example, you can tell them how ripe you want those bananas or how large a head of cabbage you desire. Setting up the initial shop is a bit of a pain, but once your normal list is populated, its pretty easy to go back to a previous order and just click “buy again”. One thing I really like is that you can see all the prices on the page, so for example if you ask for ketchup- all brands, all sizes come on the screen its even easier than in the store to select the best buy. During my mom’s final year I did her shopping online for her- from my house I bought all her groceries (at her request) and her local store delivered, even bringing the bags just in the front door for her. It was well worth the shopping and delivery fee. Like I said, for yesterday, I was able to shop at home for free-(they had a promotional) and just pick up the order, albeit twice! It was nice not to have to go in the store or wait on checkout lines.
Well DGS is still sick so we will be heading over shortly to watch him and DGD#2. Gonna be a long day for us, we will not be home until after 5. Guess I better get dinner figured out so that I am not in a bad place after baby sitting. I hate coming home after being out most of the day without a clue what I am serving for dinner. (Just figured out what I am serving....)/
I worked on some of my moms papers last night. She saved EVERYTHING. So for each tax year she saved all the envelopes and folders that she kept things in- I guess figuring that if audited she would have them on hand to put the paperwork back in to. So of a very thick envelope of paper, only a quarter of it has to be shredded or destroyed.
Hope to bring the table runner with me to work on (during naps) if possible.
Have a great day all!!

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today I've read all the posts and enjoyed hearing about what is going on with those who posted. I'm sending good thoughts to those that need them. The weather here has been very nice for the last few days, mild and sunny. I think we're getting some rain tomorrow, but still good temps. I did some work yesterday in in the last room in the house I hadn't been in. I cleared out a bunch of drawers and just have a small closet to go through. I'm so tired of working on this, I really have to push myself to keep going because I could easily quit and give up. There is still so much stuff in the house that sometimes it feels like I haven't done anything! I haven't worked on any quilting, I just really have to keep doing things in the house since that's more important. Maybe once I get it all done I'll feel creative again and can start working on some projects. The local quilts shows start up around here this month - there's one in March, one in April, one in May, two in June, then a break until August. I hope I get to go to most of them this year. I went to the Amish Market today and bought a few goodies. They had some small loaves of Irish Soda Bread so I bought one to try. I didn't care for the one I made last year, so I didn't want to make it again this year, but now I can try this one. Take care everyone!

Well if I remembered my password I could log in. I'm on my Chromebook and it doesn't have all my info in it yet. So I'm here as guest.
CJ, I agree with that. I do think you should continue to push yourself as it sounds like you have a huge amount of things still left that need to find a new home and that you'll still have tons and tons of things you want to keep. I'm pretty much an enabler so it would be easy for me to say ..hey take a few days off..but I know how that is. Take a few days off and we never get back to that.
Ginny, I had never looked into the specifics of ordering groceries online. It does, indeed, sound like it's a very good option for those that can't get to a store for one reason or another. I'd love to do it just because I'm lazy but I won't because my frugality wins over laziness. In the case of other people they are either too busy to spend time shopping and need to spend shopping time in a more important way, maybe with their children, etc, or they are not able to walk around a store. I sure didn't know you could make comments and specify brands, etc.
Sorry to hear that the little fellow is still sick. I hope you don't catch whatever he has and that the other children don't either.
I was just thinking that about the hats too, Ginny. I just got a little behind on my donating items so I wanted to get a start by getting one done every day but it seems I crochet a lot slower now and it takes me a long time to crochet one hat. This morning though I started a baby cable hat and it's almost done. I was thinking that I maybe need to stop for this month since I do have 12 or 13 hats done and work on baby things for dgd and gifts for my dd and my sister. I want to give my sister some things while she's here. And I need to start on that cross afgan and at least get the yarn together I want to use to make it.I did finish a baby hat last night. Baby hats, though, are not much in demand because of everyone wanting to make cute baby hats and no one wants to make adult men's hats. So what I actually did was cheat just to be able to say I had a hat done.So if I make 15/month, by fall I'll have a lot done.
Ginny, great idea to have somehthing in the slow cooker to have ready when you get home. Do you also make dinner to be ready for your dd for when your dd and sil get home?
Well off to do some actual work...some things need cleaning. Have a great day

Today is a beautiful day here, but I saw some footage of 18 wheelers being tossed around by the winds elsewhere in the country.
Quilting was enjoyable as always. A few hours away from the house has a beneficial effect!
