Sue, congrats on the mental vacation of going to quilting!! Glad you went!!
Ruth, 15 hats a month!!! That is a lot of hats!!!! Glad you got the chromebook up and running Best of luck with it. And as far as the shop from home goes, lots of times you can find a promotional that essentially has them shop for free. I paid .99 for them to shop this order, due to 2 promotionals. And because I placed the order from home I was MUCH better about my coupons..saved over $20 using them.
CJ- 5 or 6 feet away from me sits 4 shopping bags of my mom’s papers...Oh I do understand the frustration and aggrivation of going through everything when all you want is a magic wand to make it all go away. Keep at it, sooner or later you will be through with all the decluttering. Glad you got to an amish market- sounds like a nice outing. Make sure that those quilt shows get on your calendar and that you get to them!!!!
Babysat 2 sick kids today...I did get to pin the binding so that it is now ready for hand sewing. Too tired for that tonight.
Tomorrow I will email Meg, and just see how she is going....hope that Phyl and Becky are doing well. G

you can use coupons when you shop online also? that's fantastic. Some of the coupons my Kroger store offers are only for those who shop online and some are for the service to be free..if you buy certain products.
sorry to hear that two of the dear grandchildren are sick. Will you be babysitting tomorrow too. You dd and dsil are so fortunate to have you and your dh. They don't have to miss work that way.
I'm glad to hear that you have the binding all ready to sew. It's always such a great feeling to finish a project.
You're right, If I make 15 hats a month by the end of Sept I'll have 105 hats done.Plus in the summer I'm going to make hats for the grandchildren too...That's at least 7 more. And the baby hats but the baby things are one of the reason I'm going to cut down to 15 donation hats a month. That being said I just finished another baby cable hat. They're easy and they're so cute.
Sue, I'm glad your weather was such that you were able to get out to the quilting group.
CJ, forgot to ask but did you buy a nice yummy sweet treat at the Amish market along with that Irish soda bread. I know you'e mentioned some really good ones you've bought there in the past. I wouldn't be able to resist and it wold be so nice to think of sitting and relaxing with a good treat after all the work you've done.I think we all need to treat ourselves once a week. It doesn't even need to be a sweet treat, It could be a special fruit that we love that we wouldn't normally buy because of cost or something, or even a good piece of meat like a special steak or even a fish, or a fried food for a change instead of just broiled or baked.

Good morning, Absolutely you can use coupons when you shop at home. If you choose for delivery at home (which I did for my mom) the driver either credits your account with the coupons you are using for this order to the next order. Or, if you pick up from the store, as I did, when I go in to pay (I always pay at the store) I present my coupons there and they are deducted before I pay. As I said, there are all kinds of promotionals that can be used to reduce or eliminate the shopping fee. For me, with all the babysitting and other errands I have to run this week, paying .99 to shop the order for me was well worth it, and because I was able to make much better use of my coupons, I made up for the .99.
Today we are not babysitting but I might end up seeing DD#1 and the kids anyway as one of our errands today is in her town. I just texted her to see how they are all doing. The way she came home from work yesterday, I thought she was going to have to stay home from work today because she is getting sick also. Looks like I am going to have to check out this crochet cable stitch.....it would make for a nice project for me to work on a scarf or hat- something portable.
Yes, CJ did you pick up anything special at the Amish Market? When we get there, and its a 4 hour drive from my home, we go to the one in Bird in Hand (Lancaster area). Its a charming market (you can actually take a virtual tour of it online) and they sell great stuff. We usually end up buying some jellies, flavored tea and a sweet roll or two...or some fudge. There is also several furniture makers there and other craftsmen. Thinking of you today CJ as you continue to go through all the stuff in your home. Are you planning another pick up for charity of unwanted items?
Gonna go email Meg....... G

Yes cable projects are easy as long as you know how to do a post stitch. They're done by using dc post stitches and treble crochet post stitches. It's sometimes hard to find the right stitch hiding behing the two you crossed over them but once you watch a video it's not hard at all. I watched one by Yvonne Metz. She has good and accurate videos. Knit cables are fun too and I saw a pattern for a knit cable headband which, since it's made flat should be really easy so at some point I want to make some of those too. it sounds as though you're going to have another busy day, Ginny. Well yesterday the snow plow company plowed the roads here in our development and also did the neighbor's and my driveway. So much for that though.the wind came up and is blasting so it will all get filled back in. And you should see the gargantuan drift between our front door and the driveway!! We've never had a drift there before. It's quite a distance between the front door and driveway so it's just unbelievable. Luckily we're not planning to go anywaywhere soon.We can get out via the garage if we really need to get out and we do have a back door but then there's a very long walk around to the driveway and you have to walk where the worst of the wind blows. So today is Friday and I want to make it a "finish it Friday" and get these current gifts done. Today is actually dgd's bday so her gifts will be as usual, late but they expect that. It's my trademark

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today. The weather here is very nice. I was checking the current temperature and it's 77 degrees - in March! I think it's supposed to get cooler again though. I'm not ready yet for too much warm weather. The 70s are nice though. I did get a Whoopie Pie at the Amish Market yesterday, I like theirs. And I bought an Iced Cinnamon Roll and had that for my breakfast this morning, it was good I also bought a slice of Smith Island Cake and this one is lemon. The traditional Smith Island cake is a yellow cake with chocolate frosting, but this market makes all flavors like coconut, lemon, strawberry, caramel, etc. Here's a link to information about Smith Island cakes in case you're interested: smithislandcake.com/I finished going through the last closet yesterday and put all the trash bags out and they were picked up today. I'm sure my trash men hate me But that was the last of the large amount of bags, now it would just be a bag or two. I was happy to have finished the biggest task of going through the house. Now I'll be taking an inventory of what's left that is mine and what is my parent's. Then I'll probably do another sweep of just my stuff to see if I kept things I'd really want to get rid of. It makes me tired to think about it, but I need to keep working. I've also been working on a list of all my business accounts and my email accounts too. We never think about something happening to us and then all those "accounts" are out there. At least this way my family members would be able to close some out and check on things they need to. Our lives are so complicated in this age, and though I love all the technology and advances we have, sometimes I think it would be nice to live a simpler life. Sadly, the shamrocks will not be going on the Irish Chain quilt this year, I really don't like to machine applique, so I'm not going to bother with it. I do have 2 Jelly Rolls of fabric - one pink and one white and I'm going to use them to make a small quilt top. I'm hoping to work on that tomorrow since it's National Quilting Day. Hope all of you are getting in some crafting and wishing you and the families the best. Have a great weekend!

This has been a beautiful day. There are a few clouds in the sky, and the high was 38.
The two boy woofers are doing better.
After lunch I went to the bank to open an account for my sister's estate so I could deposit some dividend checks. The process took almost two hours but mission accomplished. The young man who helped me was very good! He's only been here four months but moved from a similar climate and elevation in Colorado. Shortly after I got home, I was able to talk to the CPA who will be filing an extension for my sister's taxes. She is also a very competent person. It's such a pleasure to deal with people who know what they are doing.
Yesterday I received my box of yarn from Knit Picks. There is a lovely soft bulky green that should make a beautiful cowl and hat. The are different shades of green tweeds that I'm going to use to make a throw for next winter.

Hi crafters, Ruth, must have missed it. What kind of hats are you making. I'm going to check out the camel stitch. I've started on the newborn caps to donate to the hospital. Also, had a call from DGD. She found some of her old soccer shirts and wants me to make a quilt for her. She hasn't brought them over yet.
Tomorrow if I'm feeling better I think I'll do some cleaning in my sewing room.
Can't believe for someone totally without a green thumb I've been able to keep my hibiscus from last summer alive. Even has new leaves. Must be from ignoring it. bettyj

Happy Friday all!!
Betty!!! Well that is too funny about the hibiscus....sometimes stuff like that happens. And of course you could have given that plant the best treatment and it died....but instead its thriving. Hope you can put it outside for the summer, which it would probably love. Better yet, don’t listen to me, you seem to be doing a great job by yourself. The soccer shirt project should be easy enough, and a fun and colorful project! Hope your sewing area is cleaned up and ready for the next quilt.
Hey Sue, what is knit picks? Glad the dogs are back to normal- I wonder how long it would take for the dog with the broken jaw to recover completely. Its really awesome news that you have competant people helping you with the estate. Closing an estate is stressful enough, but if you have cooperative professionals to assist, well it provides some hope that the process will be as simple as it can be. Hopefully the miserable emails have stopped too. We can only hope.
CJ- I have never heard of the smith island cake company- but it sure looks like they are very talented bakers! Think I would like coconut, vanilla or caramel cake....but that is just me. With all the cleaning and decluttering and processing of your parents belongings, a special treat sounds like a good idea. Perhaps you could buy yourself a nice quilt kit, or some pretty fabric....ok I know you do not need more fabric, but the pretty fabric would last to share and enjoy for a long time. Glad you are consolidating and organizing your affairs. Think that desire comes from having to take care of someone elses estate, and then you realize what a daunting task it is. Should you move, having your finances all organized will be easier anyway, so you are helping yourself also. Enjoy this warmer weather (we have it here too in NY) and try to get as much as this done before you have to start thinking about yard work. That is the one thing I love about living in an area with 4 seasons- the winter months, when the weather might not be good for going outside in are great for decluttering, straightening things up or just getting organized. Once the outdoor stuff starts, its like having a whole other house to take care of, and you still have to take care of the inside too!!!Keep going with what you are doing, you are doing an awesome job.
Ruth, well weather its your trademark or not,I am sure your gifts are loved by your family and that they look forward to your latest creative endeavors!! Sounds like you have quite some wind out there, and it must be a very dry snow to blow that much. I know lots of times here they have closed schools because the winds were so severe after a big storm that they were unable to keep the roads passable. Glad you got your errands done and do not need to head out. I know you and Dh are well stocked at home and do not need constant trips to the store, which would be unsafe in the crazy weather you are experiencing. If I get around to a cable crochet project, I will have to remember to ask you which youtubes to watch. Sounds like you have found the best of them. Not everyone can explain well how to do what comes easily to them.
I emailed Meg this am.....have not heard from her yet. Hope she is ok. Yes we got some errands done. Dd picked up the shoes she likes for her wedding, so at least now she can go for her fitting in a few weeks. Time sure is flying. I finished going through the last box of my mom’s papers- most of them were from the 60’s, and could be discarded/destroyed. The last 3 boxes, well one I have to keep as it has my parents important documents (birth/death certificates). the others I have to wait another 3 years ....it does not take up much space and I got rid of the lion share of the papers anyway. I did get to hand sew about a third of the table runner. I really like this color scheme and am anxious to use the new table runner, and make another one. In my spare time. Right.
Hope Phyl is having a great weekend and gets a chance to check in. Ginny

Betty,, I'm doing a lot of different hats but am making them to donate also. I used to go to meetings for an organization called Caps for Kids but our chapter gave hats to all ages. They mostly needed mens hats and more boys hats because most people prefer to make cute little girls and baby hats so they got a lot of those. Right now I'm making crochet cable hats. One woman in our group knitted hats for newborns only for the local hospital. Funny you mention the hibiscus. I love African violets and used to take care of them and they never bloomed. Well after I had my daughter my mother gave me an African violet and I just figured it wouldn't do any thing so stuck it in the unused bedroom right in the sun which they don't recommend and never remembered to water. One day I went in there and it was covered with blooms. I've never had a hibiscus.
I look up the link on the cake. It's an interesting story. I love historical things like that. It does sound like a good cake. My favorites would be caramel and also lemon.
Ginny, glad to hear dd got her shoes, Another part of the wedding planning done! I'm glad you got to do some of the sewing on the binding and like the table runner. It's nice to hear that you already are planning another. You'll have them for all seasons. And talking about seasons, yes it's nice to be able to sit inside and do what needs to be done and also what I want to do without having to think about lawn work and general outdoor things that need done.
I did get all finished but the bunny. I still have to sew it's parts together and embroider the face then wrap and pack. Actually I thought today was the 16th so dgd's bday is tomorrow.
Yes I do hope that Meg is ok. Maybe she's reading this and will drop in and let us know.

Oh and Ginny, knit picks is an online site that sells yarn and knitting and crocheting equipment and I think they also have patterns and videos. I haven't been on the site much and don't know much about the yarn but Sue's sounds beautiful so I think I'll go there and look. Not that I need anymore yarn. I'm trying to work on my stash and to just make things that I already have suitable yarn for.I've heard that they have good sales sometimes and that they have nice and good yarn

Ruth, thanks for the explanation of Knit Picks.....sounds like another web site I have to stay away from! Ha ha ha. I do need to finish up/use up what I have in the house before I take on new projects and more supplies.
Love the african violet story also....got my own to add. My mom, when she was in rehab near my home after her broken hip- still had her house in North New Jersey, a 70 minute drive from my house. I had her neighbor caring for her cats, and transferred her mail to my house- and I TOTALLY forgot about her beloved meyer lemon tree. She broke her hip in September and I do not think I remembered it until almost December, when we moved her into an assisted living facility. Well, shocker of all, it was still alive. Mom lived in 2 different assisted living facilities before she passed, and her lemon tree moved with her. When she passed, well I could not throw the darned thing out. I put it out in the summer, have pruned it brutally (it was way too leggy, my mom swore I killed it). Meyer lemons take a very long time to mature....anyway, last summer toward the end I looked at it and thought, well maybe this is the year I let it go and let it succumb to a New York winter. Lo and behold, the darned thing has several tiny lemons on it! So how could I let it go now? I brought it inside for the winter and those lemons are finally maturing...we have used one already on fish....and believe it or not they taste pretty good.

I finally got logged in on my Chromebook.
Very great story on the Meyer Lemon tree. I remember you mentioning it before. It's fantastic that it now finally has blossoms and has produced a lemon. I'm seen them mentioned on Food Network and have seen them in one of my grocery stores. I need to try them sometimes.
It's a nice day today. Sun is shining and wind is gone.so far I've just been working on a men's cable hat. Dh is still sleeping. He had planned to go out to take care of something or other but I think he's changed his mind.. Next week is going to be a busy one for us so I don't mind at all staying home today and getting some things done.

I will be putting the hibiscus back outside this summer. It was beautiful. My mom had African violets. Were never my favorite flowers but she loved them.
Ruth thanks for telling me about the hats. I'm going to start with baby hats and receiving blankets and may do more after those. With this little dog on my lap it's not always easy to knit or crochet. bettyj

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I have a family member with a lemon tree, it's so fascinating to see those large lemons on there, they do taste good. Hope you do get to make another table runner, I'm sure you'll be glad to display the one you made. You're right that the fact that I had to deal with my father's affairs after he died is a lot of the reason why I want to get mine in order, along with the fact that I don't have a husband or kids to do it either. My father's things were so easy because he had a beneficiary or joint owner on everything he had. Mine won't be as easy because several things are just in my name, but I do have a will and I'm working on having all the information available for whoever would have to do the work after I die. Ruth - I'm glad you have some sun today and no wind - it was windy here last night and today. Sounds like you are making a lot of progress on your projects. Betty - Hope you were feeling better today and got to work in your sewing room. Meg, Phyl and Sue - Hope you are all getting in some crafting. Since today is National Quilting Day, I made a quilt top out of 2 jelly rolls that I had bought at JoAnn Fabrics. One was pinks and the other white on white. I didn't use all of them, but made 16 blocks that are about 10 1/2 inches and sewing them together in 4 rows. It's just a bunch of blocks with strips. It has a kind of modern look, not really my thing, but it will be good to practice quilting on it. I was even thinking that it might look interesting using the big stitch method of hand quilting and really making the stitch length longer than normal, maybe 1/4 inch or so. I think that would still give it a modern look even with the hand quilting. I'll think about it. I pulled out all those leftover fabrics from several projects I've done and I'm going to fold up the fabric that is left and if I have a bunch of scraps I can throw them in the bag I've been saving to make a dog bed (or pillow). My SIL told me she does this, so I'd like to try it one day. I'm having trouble with my hot water heater (electric) and not getting any hot water so I'll have to call for a plumber next week. I checked the fuse box first and the fuse was tripped so I put it back on, but still didn't get any hot water. From what I was reading on the Internet once you tried that it is best to call a professional, so I won't try anything else. I have to believe something is wrong with the heater for the fuse to flip, I've never had that happen before. I'm so tired of all the house problems, they were me out Take care everyone!
