Betty, I have 14 grandkids and 3 plus one on the way of great grands so sometimes making things for them take me away from the things I'm making to donate. Now that I almost have the birthday gifts done for my dil and dgd who'w bday is today I'll have till August to make whatever I want. Well that cute little furbaby of yours is adorable so while he may get in the way of you knitting I'm sure it feels like it's worth it.He's adorable
CJ, sometimes it just seems like it's one thing after another with house maintenance. And if you don't have another person to share that load it has to be even worse. I hope your water heater starts working on it's own. Congrats on getting the quilt top done for Quilting Day

howdy Crafters
guess what the snow in wi and mn is melting.right Betty? problem is the ground can't take it. ground is still frozen.streets are puddles and full of pot/chuck holes.
alot of people who have never had water in the basements are getting water.we are ok.
today we met jeana and carey for breakfast. then don dropped me of at the quilt shop. we did charity sewing.we also were sewing ten inch strips and 8 inch stripes to make blocks.these will go into quilts.
with the 8 inch strips we did what is called a floating block.
the strips are 2 1/2 inches by 8 1.2 inches.
the top and bottom strips are the same color. the two in between strips are different colors.
say the top and bottom strips are orange .the strips in the middle could be a yellow and a tan one.
you sew the strips hotizantol. then these blocks will be arrange to make what is called a rail fence quilt.one block is horizanol and the block sewed to it will be vertical.
I tried3 times to grow african violets. mine died. my dmil had several violets. she would always say water just damp to the touch.
they were in front of a picture window. everyday she would pull her shears to keep the sun out. so they still got light just not hot sun
my dsil theresa has kept al l mom's violets growing. they have bloomed for her. over the years they have gotten less.theresa says when they are gone that is it. she had kept them going for over 20 years.
ruth it may be that you put the violet in the right room and not in the window that has kept it going. phyl

Blessed Sunday all!
CJ- so sorry that you have issues with a hot water heater. Totally agree, its time to call in a plumber- who I hope can remedy the issue without charging an arm and a leg. Ruth is so right, houses always seem to have something that needs repair. Glad you got some sewing time in. Split rails are fun to make and its neat how just by flipping a square around you can create an interesting pattern.
Oh gee, Ruth, you have all the way till August to make what you want? Nice, that is lots of time to make hats to donate, or search for all the adorable and useful things that you come up with as gifts. When is your next great grandchild due? Will you be making a gift for him/her?
Ok so Phyl is the one who made the split rail blocks...my apologies to CJ, but I know she also mentioned she was quilting with strips. Phyl is it a preset charity that you made the blocks for? Nice project, easy to do and yet making someting pretty!!
Got to church this am with Dd. I am tired, could have slept an hour longer this am. Dh wants to go for a walk, so that will wake me up. Would work on the finishing touches of the table runner, but the cat is sleeping on it now.
have a good day all Ginny

H oappy Sunday morning all.
Phyl, I hope you don't live where there's awful flooding. It's great that you do that work for charity. It's so satisfying to help other and especially to help them by making nice things that are not only useful but that they will enjoy.
Ginny, yes I'll probably spend a good deal of my crocheting time this summer making baby items. For her first baby I made dgd only a blanket but this time I may make other things being that the baby is due at the end of Sept so will need warmer things such as sweaters and hats. My dgd also has a friend that crochets and she made my dgd the cutest little candy corn dress, hat, and little slippers last year. You can see the outfit...or at least used to be able to see it...online.I think the friend has made toys too. One of the things I'm thinking of is a butterfly rattle and matching hats for both children.I have a very old pattern for the prettiest sweater. Of course I probably need to wait on the clothing items till we find out the gender but I do have a feeling.
Nice day here. 40 already and snow is melting and no wind. I may go out and see if some snow clearing is needed. Dh did some yesterday until he was having a hard time breathing and he hadn't done a whole lot but did get a path to the driveway. Luckily some had melted so it was no longer about 5 feet deep...maybe 3 feet

The outfit was similar to this one except it had a different hat and had little shoes to match

OK so like a do do head, I opened up a joanns email, and its got a link to a you tube for an afghan. Its a mystery afghan, so you purchase the yarn and then follow the directions that you get weekly.....https://youtu.be/qjzludhzIL0. Hopefully the link copied ok and you can check it out. Do I have time for this ? No! Am I tempted to do this? Maybe. Am I nuts? Of course!!
Ruth, glad Dh took it easy and stopped shovelling snow when it began to bother him. 5 feet of snow!! I had no idea you had so much!!! Glad its all melting- sooner or later green grass will be showing. The candy corn dress is adorable!! I can imagine that you will find all kinds of adorable things to make for your new great grand child to be....and yes, with cooler weather right around the corner right after he/she is born, well you can have a lot of fun making hats, sweaters, afghans, buntings......
Phyl, Ruth reminded us that you live in a state that has flooding. Hope your area is safe- and that your friends and family are ok.
CJ, got an email that had all amish recipes....thought of you. Are you a fan of shoe fly pie?
No word from Meg. I did email her the other day.
Sue and Betty hope you are enjoying your Sunday G

hi, we are ok. I think most of the towns that may have some flooding are the small county type towns. there may have been some up by green bay.
give us a few more weeks and I am sure towns closer to us will be
for charity we give to the children's home. there is a program to help teen mom's to keep their babies, salvation army,. homeless shelter etc
I was going to go to my playpen after we got home. feeling dowsry so probably won't make it. phyl.

well I got in my exercise for today. I shoveled snow behind the one car then I cleaned out a closet where dh keeps his hoard of winter boots that he never wears. Made an appointment for the 6 month maintenace check of my car even though I have only about 100 miles on it and all that came from driving the car home after buying then back to get the glitch fixed then back to pick up the spare tire they promised us.I have to do the maintenance check anyway to keep up the warranty.
Did a tiny bit of crocheting while talking to dh and I'll do some more soon after I got back out and see if I can get some of the concrete like snow broken down. It's under the bumper of the car we'll use tomorrow if we go out and I don't think we can ddrive it with all that there. The other two have way too much snow behind them. I got the tires on this one cleared just need to do the bumper thing. Lots of snow is packed in the engine compartment too so will have to get that out. I thought it would all melt since it's way over 50 but so far that snow hasn't budged

Hello Crafters Phyl - I'm glad you aren't having any problems with water in your house and hope your town doesn't get any of the terrible flooding. Ginny - I love Shoofly Pie! The Amish Market I go to makes a good one and I get it sometimes. Let us know if you do the mystery afghan, it might be fun. Ruth - Those Candy Corn outfits are so cute! Hope you took it easy with the snow shoveling, maybe you won't have to do that much longer this season. Meg, Sue and Betty - Hope you are getting in some crafting. It was a pretty sunny day here, in the 50s. I finally went through those packs with leftover fabrics and patterns from old projects. Some of the fabric was just scraps but there were others that had a larger amount of fabric left. I stored what I could of the really big pieces but then didn't want to throw out the other larger pieces since I thought that I could use them for a pieced backing or binding for the projects they came from. I also found 40 half square triangles in one package. They were a mix of blue, purple and pink with white polka dots on one half of all the triangles. I decided to lay them out in rows of 5 across and 8 down and make a small quilt that looks something like this: www.scrapish.com/half-square-triangle-quilt.htmlI hope to piece that together this week sometime. It was a nice surprise to find and they'll make a cute, bright quilt. Take care everyone!

CJ, that does look like a beautiful and colorful quilt top. You definitely should make that one. I've only had shoofly pie one time and only a taste. It had to be about 60 years ago at least. I didn't care for it at the time.
I went out and did a little bit more snow shoveling. It was not hard which was a surprise to me because I don't get much exercise.I didn't overdo.Haven't got back to crocheting yet but I did get some of the gifts wrapped this morning. I sure hope to be able to mail the box this week so better get going on that bunny and get the rest of the gifts wrapped.I don't know why I didn't go ahead and wrap the ones for ddil because all of hers are done.
Tomorrow is yet another week. One we are blessed to have as we are blessed to have each day

This is just a fast hello. Some of the woofers got brave this morning and walked on the frozen crust of snow. This is the first time this winter that there's an opportunity for them to wander the backyard!
The high was 40 and will be for the week. Night time lows will be bow freezing.
A very pregnant wild rabbit has been hanging out under the crabapple tree in front of the bay window. A few days ago a flock of Bohemian waxwings swooped in for some me juniper berries and frozen crabapples. There must have been more than 100. The deer have been hanging out under the tree, too.
I've been trying to catch up with paperwork again. I feel like I'm on a treadmill sometimes.
