Welcome! We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.

Welcome to April and Happy April Fools Day!
This morning I'm seeing where a picture of Joe Biden with former Defense Secretary Ash Carter's wife Stephanie that has evidently been making the rounds of "proof" that Biden is too "touchy-feely" with women is being debunked by Stephanie Carter. She says that she has been friends with the Bidens for years, and that there was nothing inappropriate in that picture. That it is being taken out of context and used as an attack when it absolutely was not as it is being portrayed. Politics has turned into such an ugly business. I think it's probably always been an ugly business, but it seems that it's even uglier now that we have a 24/7 news cycle.
I also saw where Flores was on the founding board of Bernie's Revolution campaign and endorsed him in 2016. I hope Bernie has nothing to do with the attacks on Biden, and I hope that Biden is innocent as well. We'll see what happens. That's not to say that Bernie's involved in the Biden attack because he very well may not be at all.
I'm not so sure Biden, Bernie, or any of them are the best choice. But with it already starting to get ugly this far away from the election, you can only imagine just how ugly it is going to get.
As for Mayor Pete, he seems to be doing very well with fund raising which is certainly a positive sign for him. I saw where he's raised over $7 million in the first quarter, which sounds pretty good for someone pretty much no one had ever heard of a few weeks ago. He's also secured the number of donors necessary to at least get into the first debate.
One way or the other, this is shaping up to be a very interesting political season. Fasten your seat belts and hang on tight.

www.nytimes.com/2019/03/29/science/dinosaurs-extinction-asteroid.htmlThis is way off topic, but interesting non the less. The town named in this story is exactly where I live. DH said he saw this guy off & on over the last couple years out at Travel Center where he coffees & plays cards. Its amazing that this was the best kept secret in this small town..LOL...Everybody usually knows everybody's business here....LOL

Linda, that is a WOW article for sure! Thanks so much for sharing it with us. I got through the whole article too. That's a big deal for me and I'll tell you why.
The very first time I met my spouse, Joyce, we talked for the longest time about so many things. I'll never forget that talk because she asked me what was my greatest fear. Who asks somebody a thing like that when you just met them? I have to admit it was a hell-of-a-good question and a great conversation. My answer was a tsunami and it's still my greatest fear.
This is such a BIG deal, Linda, and it's in your own backyard! So damn cool. Thanks again. I love this stuff. I'm so glad you posted it.

Look like the JA is deciding healthcare is not an issue that's going to help him. People don't want to give up Obamacare, so now instead of we've got to throw it out the window right now it's we can put it off until after the election. LOL! He's so predictable. He knows if healthcare becomes a primary topic leading up to the election, it does not spell good news for him or Republicans in general. In case you haven't seen it, DotRen posted a very funny Randy Rainbow song parody about Betsy Devos at the end of March's thread. You might want to go over and check it out. As always, Randy is really funny. Mayor Pete was on Lawrence O'Donnell last night. I didn't get to watch at the time, but I've found a You Tube video of it to watch this morning. I'm sharing the link here in case any of you missed it and would like to watch as well. www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1Z6W5YZK1E

One thing for sure about Bernie, he knows how to get people enthused and get them to donate. He's raising a lot of money, once again primarily in small donations. That says a couple of things about him. 1) His message resonates with a lot of people; and 2) He has a really good campaign infrastructure that knows how to get the message out there. Both are critical in winning a national campaign.
We seem to have a wealth of good, possible contenders. The key is, can any of them beat the JA? I like Bernie, but I worry about his calling himself a Democratic Socialist and his always talking about revolution. In my part of the country those terms don't sit well with a lot of people, but I admit I don't live in the most enlightened part of the world. LOL! I have no problem with either term, but I do know people that don't like them. It really doesn't matter here though, because no matter what TN is going to vote Republican. My vote counts only for my own self-satisfaction. Maybe there are enough people in other parts of the country who are more attuned to put him over the top. So far I've seen several candidates that don't get me enthused (Beto, Tulsi, etc come quickly to mind), but I haven't seen any candidates that I think "Oh no! They'd be a terrible President." Of course, I have to admit that since the JA has set the bar so low it would be pretty much impossible for anyone not to meet the threshold of "better than him." LOL! There's going to be a lot to watch in the next few months.

I watched The American President again -I love that movie. One line jumps out at me as being Trumps agenda: "He is interested in two things, and two things only—making you afraid of it, and telling you who's to blame for it." when the president is talking about Richard Dreyfus character.

I sent $100 to Mayor Pete! I don't know how far he can go, but I at least want him in the debates.

You may have read about the overhead bridge collapse in Tennessee earlier this week. Unfortunately it's not an isolated incident. Our infrastructure throughout the country is crumbling at an alarming rate, and yet we are not doing anything about it. Who cares if you're driving down the interstate and a bridge collapses under or over you? We need to build a big, beautiful wall along the southern border while we confiscate some landowners' property in order to do it, and smugglers either go over or under it.
Oh yes, one more health warning from our illustrious "I'm the only one who can fix things" JA in the Oval, wind turbines cause cancer. Geez! It's bad enough that we have such a manipulative, ignorant pretend president, but his followers actually believe the idiotic crap that comes out of his mouth. It never even occurs to them to ask for proof to substantiate any of it. One thing for sure, he is the greatest con man of all time.

Add that to the "wind energy isn't sustainable because the wind only blows sometimes" lol. Well we know something that blows all the time, maybe he is the key to sustained energy.
