Phyl do they give you interim instructions for the subblocks to check size? I am sure you are cutting everything well. THe blocks I am working on she told us to sew a scant 1/4 inch seam, the blocks must be 12 x 12.....or we are in trouble and the quilt will not work. I did find buried in the instructions the size of the subblocks. It helped me a bit. Will you be attending the ordination also? Daniel sounds like a very special young man....I pray that he is successful and serves the Lord well. G

Ginny - I thought the Diamond quilt would need a template too, but it doesn't. Look under the free patterns area for the Diamonds quilt and click on the pdf for instructions. She just uses two rectangular pieces of fabrics sewn together at an angle and then cut apart in the middle. It was a very interesting way to get that angle on a quilt block.
I really enjoy watching her You Tube video tutorials too, most of them are pretty easy.

CJ- well that is a neat way to make a diamond block! I marvel at how quilt designers create new designs and can break down a pattern that looks complicated into simple components. I hope you make that quilt.... Ginny

I love the diamond quilt too. And the instructions for it remind me of some quilting shows I used to watch on PBS.They had such great methods, as you say, of making something complicated look easy. That's why charm packs and the other packs of small blocks they sell now suprised me becxause these people would just cut long strips sew those together, cut them and voila...a big block just like you needed without sewing all those small blocks together.
Was it the movie Groundhog day where the man woke every morning and the exact day happened again? I felt like that when I came upstairs again today and found the ground all covered again after it had all melted yesterday.
It was so nice seeing everyone here yesterday. It's been awile since we saw you, Sue, glad to hear you're getting your infinity scarves finish. How many are you making. They yarn you mentioned...is that a color or is it where the yarn is made? It sounds beautiful.
Phyl, I see you're staying busy. Happy birthday to Hannah. I know she'll have a great time spending those gift cards. Well last night I did work on the doll but it seems like the head is taking me a long time. The body with the legs made right in didn't seem to take very long. Yesterday morning I had dropped that crochet hook downstairs and didn't want to disturb dh so instead of working on the doll I made a frisbee. I'm going to make more and put them in with the summer things I'll be sending to the grands. They'll have a great time with them and the water balloons....and also the other toys I'm sending. They're all growing up so fast.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today I went out this morning thinking I would pick up my other pair of glasses that are ready, but I got probably about 6 or 7 miles down the road and saw some smoke coming out from under my hood (this is my old car, not the new one). So I turned around and came home, praying the whole time that my car wouldn't catch on fire. Some of the area I was driving through is not that great (actually where I live isn't either) and I was worried I'd break down. The engine never did overheat, but I put the car back from the house in case a fire started. I read on the Internet that the cause of the smoke could be a leak from coolant or caps/gaskets that are loose, so hopefully it's just something like that. I'll have to get it to my mechanic at some point. I know I should have traded in this car, but I really like it. I'm so glad I have my new car though so I don't have to depend on the old one. I haven't done any crafting, but hope to get some done in May. Some days I'd just rather read It was a cool and cloudy day here, but tomorrow is supposed to be in the 80s - too hot for my liking. Take care everyone!

Oh that's terrible, CJ. I'm glad you made it back home safely at least. I hope it turns out to be something easily and cheaply fixed. I'll take a couple of your 80's days and trade you for some of these 40's. it did get up to at least 45 today and the snow all melted then it started snowing off and on again even tho it was mid 40's. How strange is that!

Good evening! CJ- well I am just glad that you are ok and made it back to your home safely. You are absolutely correct that a coolant leak could be the cause of smoke....of course do not check under your hood until the car has had time to cool down. Do you notice a puddle of antifreeze under the car in the garage/driveway?
Ruth, educate me....you make frisbees out of yarn? Crazy- I have never heard that!!! You come up with the greatest ideas. Keep the 45 degree weather....I am like CJ and am NOT looking forward to warmer temps.
Went out for errands with Dh today- then walked with a new friend from church. And because they were completely desperate, I drove this afternoon. Am working again tomorrow am only. Not looking forward to it.
Indeed it was nice to see everyone here..got a little bit of work done on the pillowcase this am. Happy to get any crafting time in. And I bought 2 fabric baskets at Walmart- PERFECT for my quilting supplies and in progress work. So I guess I did get some crafting in after all Good night all Ginny

Ginny, yes they're made of yarn. You can use cotton or acrylic ( or something like that), a large hook...I used an L...and hold two strands together. They are very sturdy and when kids play with them there's no danger of getting hurt by a hard frisbee hitting someone in the head. They can also then be used indoors without too much danger of breaking something. They can also be folded up and put in your pocket or purse and people mention using them to play with dogs.
Yes you did get crafting in with both the pillowcases and buying those fabric bags. The fabric bags sound interesting. Are they made of fabric or are they to hold fabric? or maybe both.
I worked on the doll again and have the head done. Now just the arms and hat which I had intended to do the other day.
See you all tomorrow

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Thanks for your commiseration with my car problems. I was careful not to put the hood up until I felt it was safe. I was only taking out my old car since it had been several weeks since I drove it and it needed to be filled up at the gas station. I don't plan to use the car often, but I don't want it to sit for months at a time and not be used. I can't bring myself to just have one car since I worry about being stuck at home if the one car I did had broke down or had problems. I'd feel really isolated being here without being able to leave if I needed to. I starting cutting up the shirts I'm using for the pillow covers, but these shirts are not as large as the one I used the first time. I'm finding that I have to cut the pieces smaller to have a straight line from where the armholes were. I don't know if these are just made differently or if I cut too much fabric off the first time. I squared them up (mostly) and put them aside to work on later. Then I started working on a small quilt I want to do that is just a sashed square block. I cut the inside squares at 4 1/2 inches and the side sashing at 2 1/2 inches. I've started with 9 blocks, but I'll see if I have enough fabric to make more. This is quick and easy with a lot of chain piecing, which I like. We had thunderstorms and heavy rain here this afternoon. I had an inch of rain in about an hour. Hopefully they are passing over and will be gone soon. The temperature had gotten up to 90 degrees before the rain came through! Take care everyone!

Phyl, I'm sorry you're having so much difficulty with the video. Some people make great videos and others shouldn't even be making them because they just aren't good at it. I hope you can figure something out.
CJ, know what you mean about wanting to use the old car now and then. I've had several that were left just sitting and ended up with problems. If you don't take them anywhere you at least have to start them and let them run for awhile to keep the battery fully charged and things circulation. Thankfully it did start raining and cool things down there. I could use a little of that warmth. Dh told me it was going to be warmer today and I guess it was but it was still too cold for me but at least didn't wake up to snow on the ground again. It's all gone now.
Well thanks to a friend I think I have meals figured out for dinners for about 10 days while sister is here. That will also work for after she's left and for when my son is here visiting too. Now I just need to figure out a couple things for breakfasts and lunches but I'm not going to worry about those too much. I have several muffin recipes and some other breakfast things and lunches can be sandwiches, soup, salad, or leftovers.
I did work on the doll again today. For something so simple that I thought would go fast I'm sure making it in to a prolonged project. I do expect to finish it this evening but I've said that before.
I'll bbl to see if anyone has posted after mine.

Well I am getting here far later than I thought I would....
Phyl- so sorry you are finding the instructions so difficult to follow. You are not the first person to complain about windows 10- not sure why Microsoft made such dramatic changes to Windows 7l which worked well enough. I hope that you can figure it out...without losing your mind.
CJ- I found that when working with the shirts, I had to adapt what my original idea was, and find a way to incorporate smaller pieces. You will figure out something that looks good to you and uses up the fabric as you want.
Ruth, so glad you got your meals figured out! there are several really good breakfast casserole recipes- some using eggs, cheese, a breakfast meat and tater tots- or hash browns....nice because you make them the night before and bake them the next day. I really like french toast casserole, but its not gluten free.
babysat DGD today....she is so adorable and a lot of fun to be with. I had her outside a lot -which she loves.. This evening I went into town for a National Day of Prayer meeting....very neat and a nice tradition.
Quilt class tomorrow. Ginny

girls it is not so much the video on you tube.that is not the one that goes with this pattern. they are showing the right method.
it is more not being able to open the video from the pattern on my computer.
I save images and can't find them. jeana came over one night to try and print something and had a hell of a time .then she came over one day to take some of her stuff off and is having a hell of a time. so I am not sure maybe it has something to do with the guy who cleaned it up last time or not.phyl

Whatever the issue i, Phyl, I hope you can get this resolved so you can get the instructions as you need them. Computer glitches are so very frustrating- especially when you know that the information is there and you cannot access it.
Quilting class this am....bbl G

I love the diamond quilt, too.
cj, I'm also a worrier about getting stuck with one car. Thinking in modern day terms, that's why I traded in the two 1999 vehicles. This is more rural, but even here, Uber is available. I haven't used it, but I did put the app on my cell phone. Eighteen months later, I'm more comfortable with one vehicle. hb had a panic attack about one vehicle. He thinks he needs to haul things to the cabin, have a truck, that he's going to get his license back. Not going to happen. He's okay now, but he wasn't happy with me at the time. I have a Honda Pilot, and it's a perfect choice for now.
The sky is blue today. High of 60.
This morning I postponed my podiatrist appointment for two weeks. Willy the dog will have the wire holding his lower jawbone in place removed. I don't have a problem getting him to the vet in the morning, but I wouldn't be able to pick him up. He has to have anesthesia for the procedure which makes it a big deal. Half of my big toenail is going to be removed. Sounds awful, but it cant be nearly as bad as the daily irritation and pain. I can drive myself home and elsewhere, but it will take a few days to heal.
Two of the highly verbal people have been missing from quilting for two weeks. So quiet and pleasant when no one is showboating! Just quiet and pleasant conversation!
I talked to the Probate attorney yesterday afternoon, and we clarified a few things. My landline and computer are working part of the time. I need an modern system that works 100% of the time.
